This was the most frustrating experience for our whole group. When you are consistently losing balls in the fairway and in the first cut because zero lawn maintenance has been done is ridiculous. Even the ranger drove by and laughed it off. It was to the point we thought it was a scam for them to try and sell more golf balls in the club house. Play was so slow because nobody could find their ball. The group in front and behind us all found it so crazy that we laughed about it. We paid for 18 and only played 9 because the conditions were so bad. If equipment was broke or crew was on strike then make it known.

With out a doubt, one of my favorite courses of all time, The River course is the sister course,…read moreactually more of the big brother course of these two fine establishments. The club is private and members are from all over the states and the U.K. 6,960 yards f from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 74.5 and it has a slope rating of 138 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Tom Watson. I did cut and paste that info, but it really is an amazing links course. First hole is straight forward par four, but after hitting your second shot on @2, a great par 5 with a great risk / reward second shot, the course really begins to show its character. I may get my hole numbers confused, hole 4 gives you two fairways, but they assign 1 a day to play, 7 is a 100 yard, completely blind par 3, I have hit lob wedge and 8 iton into. 11-12-12 all spectacular,16 is the Turnberry hole, which is the signature hole, 17 is super risky, how much marsh are you willing to cut? The course is just immaculate, I saw a grounds crew member cutting grass around the sprinkler heads with scissors! Enough can not be said about Cassique (the chief of the Kiawah Indian tribe) I will add to this review.

I love the golf course and have been saddened because of a torn rotator cuff, which thankfully is healing. I miss my time on the course with my buddies. Rich allows us 2 tee times every Thursday in the early afternoon at a steep discount and I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate him and all he and his staff do for us. The course is challenging and always in immaculate condition. It is my favorite in the entire area. I was finally getting used to it and figuring my game out when I was injured, so it looks like I'm going to have to do that all over again. And I'm looking forward to it. A bad day on the golf course beats a good day pretty much anywhere else. My only complaint is that they have no hot dogs on the traveling snack cart. There are times when eating a hot dog is the best part of my game. Ha! When finished with a round I always go into the club and sit at the bar. I order a cheeseburger off their menu rather than the ones they send out on the course. I've never been disappointed, they're always delicious and the staff is friendly even though I'm not a member. If you go out and play that course for the first time, please leave me a message and let me know what you think. Now for the good part: The lanes and everything are all redone and beautiful! The snackbar/arcade are all in convenient spots. It is non-smoking so it doesn't have that typical bowling alley smell to it. It's cheap bowling in a nice atmosphere. HOWEVER. They did away with dollar bowling nights. How sad :(. On top of that, they loaded a train up full of bowling nazis and stuck them right behind the counter. You better not throw one ball before 9:30 pm for midnight bowling. No sir/ma'am, not even at 9:29. You must wait until they have told you the rules, which consist of "You are not allowed to do this long list of things. Have fun." SOMETIMES, you get "the cool guy" and he'll even let you start one minute early. No joke - one minute. Anyways, go for a good time, it's good music, and as long as you're not breaking the speedometer by throwing your ball too fast or bowling between your legs, you'll be free from the bowling nazis!

Oak Point was one of 3 Kiawah Island golf courses I visited as part of a short golf vacation with…read moresome buddies. Its a Clyde Johnston designed course with some interesting nuance to it. While its a challenging course, playing in somewhat inclement weather made it a bit more challenging. Of the 3 courses we played-- Turtle Point and Osprey Point-- I found this to be the most difficult---certainly based on my score. Just the fact that you start out with a par 5 on the first hole should say something. How about having 3 par 5's and 3 par 3's on the front 9? I don't think I'd seen that before. Then 2 par 5's and 2 par 3's on the back 9. The back 9 for me was much more difficult. The condition of the fairways and greens are what you'd expect from a Kiawah Island course. The folks on the course and the pro shop were very friendly and helpful.

Oak Point is the only one of the 5 Kiawah Island courses that is located just outside of the Kiawah…read moregate. I feel Oak Point is the best course for a variety of skill level players, it would be challenging to the novice golfer and the experienced player will have a fair test, but may prefer the other 4 courses. The par 5's are reachable, but typically guarded on 3 sides with bunkers or other non green zones. Bordering the historic Haulover Creek and the Kiawah River, Oak Point was built on the grounds of an old indigo and cotton plantation. As I mentioned with the other Kiawah golf courses, Oak Point is another example of quality golf that Kiawah Island has to offer. The 18-hole Oak Point plays 6,759 yards of golf from the tips for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.8 and it has a slope rating of 140 on Bermuda grass, designed by Clyde B. Johnston. I have to rate Oak Point at the bottom of list of my Kiawah Golf Courses, but do not have that dissuade you from playing there, it is still excellent..The signature hole is #18

Came here on a coworkers recommendation for a Team Building work event. The place is impressive…read morewhen you first come in. Large and well done but upon using the axes we were all a little disappointed. I've been to other places and always been fairly good but here the axes are pretty dull and the boards torn up. When I'd we hit it straight on, most of the time it fell out and hit the ground. We asked the staff to put up a new board but he said they've been out and are waiting on a shipment. The axes were all also pretty worn. One even broke when we threw it. On top of that, I thought the price was pretty steep. We were only given two stalls for 10 people and the price was $27 a person. Next time we'll probably go somewhere else unfortunately. The staff was all extremely nice though.
