    The splash pad
    Matthew L.

Ashley River Park is a public park that opened in Summerville, South Carolina in March 19th. The $13.1 million park covers 85 acres along the Ashley River. Dorchester County purchased the property in 2012 with the hopes of turning it into a park. The park boasts playgrounds, a zipline for kids, a splash pad, a climbing wall, picnic shelters, a rope course, a fishing pond, a pavilion, a kayak launch, docks, two dog parks (one for small breeds and one for large breeds) and various walking trails. My family and I visited the Ashley River Park this past summer while we were visiting family in town. My wife and I are always on the lookout for nice playgrounds for our two boys, and our cousins told us about a great park nearby. First off, the grounds were beautiful. Everything was meticulously landscaped, yet enough of the wilderness was still present to remind visitors that they were still in river country. First my two sons headed to the splash pad where they cooled off from the hot sun. A cool feature of the splash pad is that the floor is a large map of what the Ashley River looks like as it flows throughout Dorchester County. Afterwards, my sons got dried off and headed to the playscapes. They had plenty of fun going down the slides, climbing on the rope course, hanging on the monkey bars, and zipping down the zipline. We all had a nice visit to the park and we hope to stop by again the next time we are visiting family in the area.

The park has a few hiking trails, a children's play ground, a covered picnic shelter with several picnic tables underneath and docks for fishing. Overall, the park was very clean and there was plenty of space for the kiddos to run around or to enjoy a quiet picnic. Pet parents will find many trails and ample space to walk their fur babies but beware... when we were walking some visitors alerted us to an alligator that had exited the water and was lying near some bushes. Be alert to ensure safety. Ask about free entry for Federal employees and veterans. FYI

This is a great park for all. The park runs alongside the Ashley River off of Bacon's Bridge Road at an area where the river is more like a large creek For families and kids, you have playgrounds, a splash pad (closed in the winter), and a fishing dock around the pond. Multiple picnic areas are also available. Dogs are allowed on a leash, and there are 2 dog parks, 1 for small dogs and the other for large dogs. The bathrooms are as nice and clean as you can find at any park The wife and I go for the walking trails. They are not extensive but offer enough to make it a nonboring walk. At just $25, the resident Senior pass is a bargain and allows up to 8 visitors at a time. Nonsenior residents pay $40 a year for a pass. The park offers day passes for those that don't plan on using the park often.

Variety of things to do at park. Large playground for the kids. Trails to explore. Pavilions you can rent for parties. Splash pad in warmer months. Catch and release fishing. Easy to spend an entire day enjoying nature and family.

The newest park in Summerville has great accomodations for all. Great play area for the kids with a splash zone. Reminds me of Whirling Waters before they added the water park. Nice fishing pond, great trails, picnic areas that you can reserve, and an event pavilion large enough to hold a reception or for a concert. They will be adding an adventure course and climbing wall in the near future.

Actually when you park by the rec. center you wouldn't think there's even a dog park until you see a tiny sign with a man walking a dog. Follow that path beside the dumpster and it's around the corner! Thanks to the other reviews I knew that too. Love this app! There's a smaller dog side and a large dog side. Nothing is really taken care of but it kind of feels more like a dog park in the woods and our pup loves running through the woods so this was right up her alley. It was quiet and so pretty as the sun was coming through the trees. This is a straight run of the mill dog park no extras or frills. Simple fence and water for the dogs otherwise they pretty much left it. Again, I don't hate that because I really want my pup to run (she doesn't really play or the "toys"). Eventually a young girl came with her pups and Stella got to run even more. Just a nice fun morning exercise.

You first walk into a extremely large dog park with a lot of old growth trees and ground covering that is just grass pine needles or pine cones. The only thing it didn't have to be a five-star Park was water. And then I noticed a second gate and when I went through it there was an actual Lake!! And a dog park that goes all around it. I read down to find someone that complained, you know there's always one. But they complain that their dog got sick or bumps or something from drinking the water. They should probably let their dog drink something other than bottled water more often. It gets their defense system up and working. But the dogs were running and playing and if anybody ever wants to know what a five-star park looks like in a small area this is about the nicest one I've seen so far that isn't 50 plus acres!!
