Turtles barely visibly in murky pond
    Ann D.

What a disappointment! This park has great write-ups and reviews, so we went with expectations that the reviews mentioned. Wow! The park is in disarray --ponds are dirty, murky and have non-functioning aeration. The statues were cute enough, but they were in a messy environment that you wouldn't want to stay long to enjoy them. You could barely see large turtles in one of the ponds, even though they were just below the surface (photo). Not sure why it appears that the parks department has ignored this area, as it's in a beautiful, historic part of Summerville and could be a lovely attraction.

Another gorgeously planned park originally designed in 1930's. Very beautiful and abundant azaleas, obviously , with tea olive, camellia, and others. Very quiet, safe and clean to have a nice walk around the park with a small canal, swamp pond, and sculptures throughout.

I loved my walk through Azalea Park while visiting a friend who is lucky enough to live in Summerville. This town offers so much in such a quaint setting. Just outside of town, we walked over to the park that is beautiful on the outside looking in. Set right on the street that is somewhat busy, it was incredible to feel the city drift away as we walked further into the park. The greenery and flowers are abundant. My friend said at certain time, when the flowers are all in bloom, the feeling in amazing. The paths winding through the park, take to around a pond and to a gazebo. It was so relaxing to meander around with no pressure to go one way or another. There are sunny places and cool shady spots too. When we were at the pond I was shocked at the amount of turtles that were swimming around and sun bathing. It was a sight to see! When we left, it was a couple minute walk back to town for a cold beverage. It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Azalea Park - Located just off S. Main St at 5th South St in Summerville is one heck of a park! As my daughter says, this is a walking park...no playgrounds here, but there is plenty to go than any playground you will find! Azalea is called azalea due to...well...the azaleas planted bordering and throughout the park. When they're in bloom in the spring, there are few places more beautiful. There are two sides to the park on either side of South Main St. One side has easy, ample parking along with restrooms. Throughout the park, there are ample sculptures. Absolutely stunning. Check out Sculpture Down South's page to find out about the sculptures. In addition, there are ponds throughout the park, gazebos, walking trails, and plenty of green spaces along with a tennis court. Check out Azalea Park!

Summerville Dorchester County, has done a fantastic job at preserving green space and making that space so inviting. The upgrades include piers, rentable indoor space as well as a stage for future performances. Highlights are views of the Ashley river, a boat launch and a resident gator. Get out and enjoy folks. We are so blessed to live here.

Azalea Park in Summerville is one of my favorite parks as it has a lot of open green space to run around and enjoy. I like the bridges and sculptures throughout the park as they really add a lot of character and variety to the park. This is a great place for a picnic or to just find a nice spot to sit and relax on a busy day. There is plenty of activities to take part in in this park and there always seems to be something going on during different parts of the year. I have always found this park very clean and well maintained each time that I have been here. This is one of the best parks in the area and I look forward to being able to come here as often as I can to have a good time and get some fresh air.

Park area was very clean and beautiful for walking! Not much for kiddos but great for a nice afternoon out.

This park has become a favorite thanks to Pokemon Go but for way more reasons after we walked it a couple times. Beautifully laid out and clean. Great statues and landscaping. Perfect paths through open and covered. I love going to this park! Feel like being outside and enjoying it? Stop over and walk and rest and catch em all!

Lots of camellias throughout the park

Azalea Park is a nice little park near downtown Summerville. There are two sides to the park and you must cross Main St. to get from side to side. I love the sculptures throughout the park- though my favorites are on the side where the tennis courts are (two lighted courts, if you're interested in playing tennis). Lots of photo ops throughout. My profile pic was actually taken at Azalea a couple of years ago. They've since redone that bridge (and have yet to paint it) and the area around it by taking out some trees. If you go to the Visit Summerville website you can print off a free home tour that starts from Azalea Park too. We did the tour yesterday and it was a nice walk around some streets we hadn't been down before.

Beautiful place to spend the afternoon with the family. Surrounded by artwork and sculptures spend time walking around and enjoy nature. Great facilities, tennis courts and bridges.

I have been trying to go on a walk every day. Most days, I just walk around his neighborhood. However, I was excited when I heard the parks reopened. I made a venture to Gahagan Park the first time almost on accident. I needed somewhere to go to get signal, as I don't get good phone service in Lincolnville. So I went to Gahagan Park for the phone signal, but after my virtual appointment, I decided to walk around this park. I found a track wrapping around a football field. I headed towards this because I assumed this would be the best place for walking. I passed a few baseball fields on my way. When I got to the track and started to walk around, I noticed that part of the track veers off. I followed this path to see where it lead. It went by some more baseball fields. It also lead to some public bathrooms and a picnic area. At the end of this walking trail, there is a graveyard. It is fenced in, and I couldn't get in. This is the point where I turn around, as the park ends and the walking path turns into a road. I like coming to Gahagan Park for my daily walks. I have a friend who plays ultimate frisbee here! This is a cool, fun, and relatively safe place to hang out. I definitely recommend checking it out!
