However, Holly took excellent care of me and made me feel so comfortable. I LOVED that when they set the room up for your appointment that every dress you see you can try on because it's set up for your size! (It can be so annoying when you want to try on a dress but they don't have your sample size in other boutiques) I loved that everything I wanted to try on I could! So grateful for Holly and helping me find the perfect wedding dress for my winter wedding. I will be recommending her and this boutique to everyone! The dress I chose was worth every Penny! I was referred to Bateau by a mutual friend of the owner Tara. Let me tell you, Tara walks the walk. After a short consultation phone call, I went in to see her for a one-on-one appointment. It was intimate, easy going and fun! Before I had even got there, she pulled a solid selection of dresses based on what I said during our call and I had a great time trying them on in a no-pressure setting. In the back of my mind, I knew I would find my dress here. However, because of my personality, I had to go to just about every dress shop I could - and even considered having someone design one for me, before I had tried all options. I am not someone who always feels super comfortable being the center of attention, so trying on a dress that's meant for that is absolutely scary to me. Walking into Bateau Bridal Boutique, it is homey, welcoming, safe, and even glamorous - it will bring everyone's inner princess or whatever feeling you have hidden away out of you. The house has a living room set up for your friends, family, and loved ones to wait and look at you to show your favorites, and then a private room is set up for you to change and decide if you want to show them a dress. Closet space in the house is cleverly used to hold sample dresses. Nothing is cluttered and it just naturally flows. The women and owner, Tara, know every dress in the space! Dresses range in all styles from that traditional bridal look to something a little different. Princess to Boho, Casual to Formal - this place really has everything. When I had my final three I was able to come back and really take my time to decide, and staff assisted to help me think through my deciding factors - sparkle? lace? princess? boho? add sleeves? fur? The business keeps your wedding day what you really are looking for - the elegance with your personal touch. You get to have your moment of finding a dress with low pressure, in a setting that almost feels like you are at home, and you will never feel like someone is selling you something. The staff keeps dresses you are looking at within your budget and style, and have integrity, honesty, and will make sure that this search is memorable. They recognize that there is no such thing as a cookie-cutter bride, and will strive to meet your needs to accommodate you in every way they can. To hold your appointment, it does cost $20, but it is a small store and by appointment only. You can make your appointment online, and if you need to reschedule, it is super easy to go change it. I really liked that feature since I was one of those brides that decided to get married quickly after the engagement, and it meant a lot to include my mom - who travels a lot. It is easy to see the time slots that are open to select! The process to purchase the dress is methodical, and the women make sure to get it just right. The shop will recommend tailors to use and answer any other questions you have. I highly recommend at least looking at finding your dress here, I would be shocked if you didn't say yes. read more

Bateau is the ONLY of its kind here in Alaska! I moved here from Miami 6 years ago and when my husband and I got engaged I literally started looking at tickets to go down to California or Seattle for the weekend to pick out the perfect wedding dress. I thought surely there were no places that carried the whimsical beauties and styles like BHLDN here in AK. Someone recommended I should check out bateau and though I was weary I went for it. It's a teeny little converted house in an area of town I don't usually go to ...and it's filled with MAGIC! They only take appointments so you have complete privacy to browse everything. The ladies are super helpful and their store is filled with gorgeous accessories as well. I ended up purchasing my wedding gown there, fur shawl and a gorgeous bridal headband. They had stunning bridal belts as well but I already had one for my special day. Would highly recommend any new brides to head to this place FIRST before trying any other salons in Anchorage or the valley. read more

I was very excited to go dress shopping and came in with an open mind. My experience was far from amazing at Bateau. From being told we cannot touch anything to being told to not even look at the dresses in a certain room because we couldn't afford them. I asked multiple times to try on a certain dress and after the 5th time, the stylist let me try it on with a stern warning of "it's definitely not in your size". I was not allowed to try on sleeves that went with one dress because my arms "wouldn't fit". Everything was about budget too. Around 20 minutes before my appointment ended, it was a fight of trying to try on more dresses because the stylist was more concerned about the people coming in after me and the timeline. After leaving the store with nothing but tears in my eyes, my recommendation is if you do have to go to Bateau, make sure you are skinny and have a huge budget. What a waste of my time, energy, and self-confidence. Extremely disappointed but couldn't give it 0 stars. read more

Very friendly and great selection of dresses. They were very accommodating and even when I wanted to try on a dress multiple times, they were more than happy to set me up with an appointment asap. The shop is quaint and very adorable. I would definitely recommend this place for future brides. I was in town and wanted to find a dress with my mom there so we went to the few stores that Anchorage has. I made an appointment with Bateau Bridal Boutique, and was SO glad that I did!!!! Tara is awesome at what she does! She helped me pick the perfect dress for my wedding next summer and I love her for that! No other bridal store in Anchorage was as down to earth and friendly, but best of all, she really cared about wanting to help me find the perfect dress for ME. I had no idea it would take a few months to get a dress in because they're basically custom made for you, so if you're new to all of this like I was, try and plan ahead as much as you can! They also had consignment dresses and other dresses you could buy on the spot. My mom and I loved that they offered champagne while I tried on the dresses. They have a pretty great selection (better than the other stores I went to in Anchorage) and they're not those pushy sales-ey types- they actually care about what you're going to be wearing. I wouldn't go anywhere else, HIGHLY recommend them, and love them here! This is where I'll be referring all of my friends to from now on for sure! My best girlfriend recently got married and since I'm her non gay/gay bestie she tasked me with finding her a place where she could say YES to the dress. I must say that Holly and Loucinda made this the perfect day. They showed us some beautiful dresses while we sipped champagne. Holly was so kind she even got us macarons from Sweet Caribou for us to snack on. The first dress was nothing new and exciting but when Loucinda brought out the Martina Liana...OH BABY, the only word that could describe it is DEVINE. I was like hey girl I think we found our dress. It was perfect. We liked Holly and Loucinda so much that I invited them to our bridal shower, the bachelorette party and even the wedding. God definitely put these wonderful women into our lives for a reason. Loucinda gave my girlfriend the sweetest gift, it was so wonderful. This charming boutique is so amazing!! The house is set up so cute and everything is so homey. So lots of raves about this place, to the point even if I had not bought my dress here I would still be reviewing them with 5 stars. Let me start out by saying I met with two different girls and both of them were nothing but sweet. Nothing awkward at all, and very very personable. I had been to 3 other bridal places in town, and multiple in Seattle and I was very very impressed by the ladies here. Which leads me to my next compliment. I didn't love any dress I tried on anywhere else.. while I had the problem of almost loving too many here! It was a pleasant surprise and then a battle to decide! All the dresses were VERY reasonably priced for Alaska boutique especially. They had a assortment of different dresses, consignment dresses, bridesmaids dresses, of all different kinds. Not so much that it's overwhelming though, I think the owner has done a amazing job at selecting the styles they carry. The owner was always amazing at me coming back to try it on again one more time, and also to change a appointment time last minute- (thank you again!) Amazing experience! Boutique is decorated very nicely and is very welcoming. Stellar customer service that far exceeded the other bridal shops I had visited in Anchorage. Kendall was not only nice and welcoming but she clearly is a pro at her job. She chatted with us about my wedding and my wants in a dress. She then handpicked several dresses for me to try on and they were all fabulous! Each dress was beautiful, had qualities I liked, fit me and my body type. At other stores, the dress trying on experience was frustrating and many of the dresses were way too big or too small, making it hard to imagine how it would actually look like on my body in my size. I've been to over a dozen dress shops at this point and Bateau by far takes the cake. Lauren was my consultant and she was so sweet and helpful. When I walked in, my name was on a chalk board in the main area and my girlfriends who came were comfy and well accommodated. We had time to flip through all the dresses and Lauren picked out a few I never thought I'd like. Even though I did not find "the dress" at Bateau, it was definitely the best experience I've had dress shopping. I gained a great understanding of what I like and what looks good on me. This place is a must go when wedding dress shopping. the setting is amazing. you have the whole boutique to yourself for your appointment. its clean and bright and fun and smells amazing. well worth the $20 appointment charge, and it goes towards your dress if you find one there. Nicole was the one who helped me. She was a fantastic person to have by your side during such an important experience for a bride. I loved her calm demeaner. She was never pushy or impatient with me. She worked really hard to understand my style when I didn't even know what my style was. I went to Bateau Bridal Boutique to get accessories with my best friend for her wedding. Tara and Beth were so helpful. Even if they don't have it in their store they will find what you are looking for and order it for you. I wish I could get married all over again and go to their shop! We found this to be the best service in Anchorage, Alaska. One of the other reviews said that it was for high rollers but we were able to find plenty to try on that were in our budget of 1000.00. Tara was amazing. Patient, positive and very helpful. I would go to this shop before the others in town. We didn't even know it existed until recently.
