Had a lovely time here! Erika, the store owner, was gracious, kind, and extremely helpful. I was in a pinch ordering my wedding dress (I had found it down states but decided to order through Anchorage for ease of access) and she was more than happy to help me get everything settled. Once it got here I was able to make appointments with them quickly, and they were very considerate of my time since they knew I had flown in from rural AK. Erika was even able to fit me in for a last minute weekend try-on when I decided I wanted a little something extra added to my dress. During the final try-on she helped me figure out the alterations I needed done so I could communicate it to the seamstress, showed me all the best ways to care for my gown, offered me a variety of accessories to try out, and successfully found me that little extra oomph I wanted. Once I was on the way out she reminded me to reach out if I needed anything else or had any more questions. I'm plus sized and they had such an amazing selection of dresses within my budget. They helped with figuring out appropriate alterations, went to a fabric store to find the exact addition for my dress and connected me with a knowledgeable alterations guru. I went to so many stores when trying on dresses. Kirsten at Anderson's was super patient and not pushy in anyway. I wanted to try on all types of dresses and I felt super comfortable trying on a ton. I never felt pressured to make a purchase. They were friendly and accommodating while I set up multiple video calls as my entire bridal party and my family live in different states. These are some of the reasons I ended up buying my dress from them. Not only was it not a dress I originally thought I wanted but I trusted their suggestions and I feel amazing in it! I used to drive by Anderson's Bride and dream about prom dresses. They always had all the latest styles displayed in their window enticingly. As I grew older, somehow I never managed to get my prom dress here (though my friend did and she looked gorgeous in her red gown!), but I made up for it for my wedding. Since I bought my dress in the Lower 48, I only needed to shop accessories with them. Their shoe collection is awful. They are all generic and bride-y looking--avoid at all cost. Plus, they were incredibly uncomfortable. I got my petticoat from them and they had all all the different levels of fluffiness to choose from. My big "thank you" to them is their great selection of bridesmaid dresses. I was concerned about finding a pretty dress that my sisters in AK could find that my sister in TX could also find. They had all the major brands and were prompt with the service. The customer service was great and very non-obtrusive. If you have something formal to attend, this is the place to be--especially if you're in your teens to early thirties. I didn't look at their wedding dresses, but I'm sure the helpful salespeople could order you anything your heart desired. read more

First let me say, I also went dress shopping in the lower 48 and wasn't impressed. AND I also shopped around online and in town. I'm not a big shopper and I get overwhelmed easy. I went to the local chain of DB and was disgusted! At the chain bridal shop I felt extremely pressured to purchase a dress THAT DAY. I had already made it clear I was looking around before making a choice and that I WAS NOT going to purchase no matter what. The lady at the chain bridal shop was ok, but she really pressured me once I picked a few I liked telling me the sale was going to end and I should purchase one today, once I told her no way, she basically nudged me out. Anyhow I knew ahead of time Andersons had a reputation for being a slight bit pricier.... But I had also been in to Andersons several times with other friends who were brides and they were always completely happy with the service... and so begins my bridal adventure. ALSO at the chain shop I kept asking questions about what dresses they actually had in stock and the sales rep had no idea, she told me to look around and pick out the dresses I liked... all the dresses where white and in bags it was extremely difficult to find a style I liked as they were all sealed up and hard to see the full style. and I had an online dress thing through their website they seemed clueless! First MAKE SURE TO MAKE an appointment!!!!!!!!!! This if for everyone's benefit. It's a very small boutique and while they say you can walk in, a lot of these reviews are complaining about personal service, so make an appointment and you will get 1 on 1 treatment. Second go online to their website and pick some of the styles you would like. Email them or call and they can do some foot work, I know they did for me! Saved me time and money, while the dress I LOVED was not in my price range, the sales lady picked several styles that were similar and in my range Third!!! Remember to take your shoes off hahahaha.. I didn't know this and one of the older sales lady kind of got after me... which I didn't understand but later when I was trying on my dresses I understood, the muck and water on the carpet gets on the dresses and your feet if someone has stepped into the dressing area, which gives you that icky feeling of "what did I step in" and then gets on the dress as you step out. I cant say enough I give them 5 stars all the way. Even for brides on a small budget like me!!!they had a lot and gave me lots of attention and NO PRESSURE and also worked out a payment plan with me so that I can make small payments towards my dress all while they will hold it for me. You might spend a little more on better quality and better service BUT you get what you pay for and in the case of Andersons bridal its TOTALLY WORTH IT. Star helped me out and I LOVED HER! I went in to try on dresses for the first time since being proposed to, and had no idea what I was really looking for. I brought my friend in who is also newly engaged and we were helped by Tracy and Erica. They have a great selection of gowns and let me tell you that Tracy is a master of her craft! She has experience working under a seamstress in San Fran and knows the ins and outs of construction/material/technique. She's very attentive and pulled dresses of all types for me to try on. Ask for Tracy! :D She's fantastic. Right after our appointment, we went to David's Bridal where the two of us were assigned one helper, and basically had 3 dresses handed to us (which felt a lot harder to get into anyway). Anderson's has a much better customer service experience. 4 stars because she's AWESOME but the selection of dresses for plus size is definitely more limited, and they don't offer a boustier to try on underneath those oh-so sliming dresses. terrible service. Once I bought the dress they stopped caring about me and just tried to push me off. I came in for alterations a month before my wedding and was told it would be ready for pickup the day before my wedding. That was pushing it but I wasn't worried. That Friday I stopped by the store and was told my dress was not ready could I come back the morning of my wedding. I simply refused as I had a lot of other stuff to do. They proceeded to ask if I could have a family member come. When I told them no I was promised it the day before my wedding the finally relented and the owner brought it to my hotel late that night. When I put my dress on the next morning I learned they simply pressed the hem and did not stitch it so my hem did not stay up. All pics of my ceremony show that the hem was dragging on the ground. When I called them about this a couple days later (once we returned from a quick weekend away) they told me I had to come in that day, I asked if I needed the dress and they said no just pictures. I showed up and they told me they needed the dress and to come back the next day. I came back the next day with my dress and they said they didn't have time and that I needed to come back. I proceeded to stand there and tell them they would help me today. After taking a look at the dress they declared that I had ripped out the hem on my own and owed me no refund on the alteration charges. I picked up my phone and in the middle of the store told my mother about the entire ordeal. They finally refunded me just so I wouldn't talk about it in the store (I wasn't yelling, was simply on my phone) and scare away the poor girls that were there shopping. read more

Stopped by Anderson's Bride this afternoon and had pretty much the same experience as Ashley. Got a quick "hello" from a gentleman in the tuxedo area and then was pretty much ignored while I browsed. While they had a good selection of higher-quality dresses, the customer service was definitely lacking. In the market for a reasonably-priced bridesmaid dress, but could find nothing less than $140. In this day and age of online shopping, the niche for this type of store is the customer service. Without it, this place is sunk. It's been around forever, but that is not enough to make me come back. read more

I thought I would write a positive review amongst the bad ones. My experience with Anderson's was fantastic. I was treated very kindly and even though I went back over 4 times to try on "the dress" before I made up my mind, Oma was very willing to help me each time. She even let us stay after closing to finish! My bridesmaids came in twice to look at dresses and each time we stayed for hours. We were never rushed, hassled, or "pushed" to buy anything. The staff get to know you and really want you to have a special experience. I know they are not cheap (but what is in the wedding world?), but the dresses are beautiful and quality material. The accessories were gorgeous. I ended up getting a beautiful veil and feather thingy for my hair as well. We also got all of our tux rentals here and had no problems. read more

I am giving this store two stars because they had nice looking dresses. One star for customer service. I stopped by Anderson's last week to take a look at wedding dresses. I was hoping to try on a few, and get a feel for the kind of dress I want, but not ready to purchase anything that day. When I walked in, no one was there to greet me, so I started just looking through bridesmaid dresses. I did that for 5-10 minutes hoping someone would ask me if I needed help, or offer to show me dresses, or really just recognize me. After ten minutes I looked through a couple of wedding dresses, and a consultant greeted me, but then went on helping other individuals. At that point I was starting to feel really uncomfortable and unwelcome - I had wanted to stop in and be excited about getting married, and instead I was feeling awkward and ignored. No one noticed that I walked out - and I won't be coming back. I had a much better experience about 20 minutes later at David's Bridal. read more

Do you remember the scene in Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts goes into the shop on Rodeo Drive and the salesgirls are terrible to her? That's exactly how I felt at my very brief experience here. My sister, niece, and I are shopping for my wedding dress and this was one of our stops. We walked in, took off our shoes as requested, and started browsing dresses. We were there for over ten minutes before someone even greeted us. When she did, she approached us by asking which one of us was shopping for a wedding dress. I told her I was, and she looked at me with pursed lips and said, "Oh." Then she gestured to the corner of the store with no lighting and no mirrors and said "The BIGGER sizes are over there." And with that, she walked away. And we walked out. If she had asked to take my measurements to find out my size range, that would have been one thing. But to give me a once over and send me over to the "bigger" sizes without even a hint of social graces was unacceptable on what is supposed to be one of the most exciting days of my life. I'll be purchasing my gown elsewhere, and I'd highly recommend you do the same. read more

I was very pleased with my experience at Anderson's Bride and it can primarily be attributed to their wonderful seamstress, Julie. My experience was as follows. I purchased my gown from a consignment shop in Seattle and brought it home to Juneau with me, after trying to find someone to do alterations in town, I stumbled onto Anderson's in Anchorage. The shop came highly recommended and they were so nice when I called to inquire about alterations. They did charge me a $50 fee since I didn't get my gown from their shop, which I thought that was fair. I got to the store at opening on a Friday and met with Julie right off, the store was hopping already, but she spent nearly an hour with me discussing all my wishlist items for alterations which was long. I had the zipper removed from the back, a corset added, cups sewn in, the gown was hemmed (nearly 4"!), a bustle was added, and the entire bodice had to be taken in. It was a lot of work, but Julie was a pro and got me back for my second fitting by Friday evening. She then worked through the weekend and had me come back on the following Monday for my final fitting before working for another hour to finish everything. I was on a really short timeline since I was only in town for four days and she worked really hard to accommodate me. I can't say enough good things about the quality of the work that Julie did and my experience at Anderson's Bride. The alterations came in at less than $400 which I thought was really reasonable for all the work that Julie did on my gown. On another note, I called two days before I was scheduled to fly to Anchorage in a panic because the bra I had borrow from a friend didn't fit me and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get another one in time for my fitting. A very kind lady at Anderson's patiently explained to me that bras are not all that common anymore and that cups could instead be sewn into my gown. A simple phone call to the store and the clerk's patience and humor were all I needed to calm down! The shop is conveniently located in mid-town Anchorage right off of the New Seward Highway. It was bright and clean. I would highly recommend Anderson's Bride for your alteration's needs! read more

Well what can I say? The service was horrible here. All I wanted to do was spend some money and no one seemed interested in assisting me in my efforts to do so! When my bridesmaid and I arrived at Anderson's and we started our search; when we had trouble locating any dresses that would fit her (all dresses were size 10 and above), we asked for assistance. The woman that was working treated us as though we were second class citizens and a waste of her time, as she quickly escorted us over to the discount rack, not bothering to show us any of the other dresses and left us alone. Don't waste your money or your time here unless you enjoy being treated poorly. The store looked as if it has not been updated since 1950. I had a much better experience with Donna's Corner in Wasilla; she was very helpful and I intend on spending my money with her. It is worth the drive! read more

I had a decent experience here, the older woman who helped me was helping someone else during part of my appointment so she was not there the entire time. I had my cousin and friend help get me into the dresses. She would come around every once in awhile and make some comments and suggestions. She did pull dresses for me to try on based on what she thought would look good and would give suggestions on how it could be changed. Their dresses were way over my price range and they did not have the types I wanted for a destination wedding. Overall it was an okay experience. If you're looking for more formal type wedding dress, this would be a place to try out. read more

Wow my experience here was one billion times better than the experience I had at David's bridal! Star assisted us, she was so helpful and fun! She listened to exactly what I wanted and found me the most perfect dress. The whole time we were there everyone was so sweet and helpful. The older lady who works there gave me nothing but dirty looks each time she walked by as if I couldn't afford anything and didn't offer to help me find what I was looking for. So instead, I went over to Men's Warehouse on Dimond and got exactly what I was looking for; they treated me like a valued customer and acknowledged me how anyone else would've wanted to be acknowledged. So I was VERY very worried to head over to one of the TWO options we hav in town after reading these reviews. I didn't intend to buy a dress there because I am flying to Miami to get "the dress", but I figured I could go and try some out and check out the styles. I made an appointment as it was Saturday and was greeted politely by one of the employees. Quickly, me and my future sister in law, were escorted to the back to meet Erika, the most wonderful sales person there. She was delightful and upbeat. I didn't know what to expect from a "dress shopping" experience but I though they brough out dresses depending on what style you wanted to try. Instead, they let us peruse through the boutique and pull out as many dresses our heart desired and hang them up to try on. Wasn't as easy to pick out the dresses because you can't really tell what they look like on a hanger. Either way, we started trying them on and left our coats and purses out by the mirror and chairs. After a couple of dresses, a large LARGe group of women came in and proceded to put our belongings on the ground so they could sit. (mind you, there were many other chairs to sit on). It was a scene straight from bridezilas/say yes to the dress. The mother of the bride was a total witch and what was a bummer was that Erika, our sales person, was caught in the middle. Either way, they have a great selection of dresses and they carry pronovias which is pretty amazing. Ended up figuring out what my style is and never felt rushed. When I first walked in the woman who greeted me was very kind, showed me around a bit, and then told me her coworker would be right with me. When she approached me she asked if there was anything I saw that I liked, I pointed out a few and she told me "you won't be able to fit into those" and had me look in the plus size section. I'm working on my weight. I didn't need to be reminded that I'm fat. She almost made me cry. Then she proceeded to talk about how theft and murder is so prevalent nowadays, and how opiates are killing everyone and doctors shouldn't prescribe them anymore. I really should have left, but I did try some dresses on. She made several more comments about my weight. She talked about how she is the only employee to work sundays and Monday's and that she works seven days a week and doesn't have time for anything else. I don't want to be rude. I refuse to buy a dress from someone who called me fat in the first two minutes of meeting me while I'm looking for my wedding dress. It might be true, I could be too big. But common courtesy, especially in this situation, might have actually gotten them my business. read more
