If I could leave no stars, I would. I had a wedding in August 2021 and brought my dress to be hemmed and for straps to be shortened in June 2021. Rose had me put my dress on and she started pinning the needles on my dress telling me what I needed to do. She was the professional so I trusted her. She wanted to take in the sides of my dress as well as shorten the straps. I told her I didn't want it too tight and she assured me it wouldn't be too tight. She charged me $380 and I had to pay that day, which should've been the first red flag. The first time I went back to try on my dress, it was tight and the straps were so high my V-back was a U-back. I was mortified and asked if she would be able to restore to what it was before because I really just wanted my straps shortened about an inch and for it to be hemmed. I went back and forth to her shop for a total of 8 times. One time she didn't want to let me try on my dress after she had taken the sides out because I didn't have my shoes. She made such a big deal out of it in front of customers but I told her I was trying it on. It wasn't even ready for a hem yet, so I'm not sure why she made a big deal of the shoes. I walked and said "hello Rose" and she said, "hello Rose" back mocking me in a child's voice. Pretty rude. The 7th time I went back to try on my dress, I noticed a little stain on the back of my dress and the inner lining had partially a new material in it. I was not notified that she would be putting in new fabric to my dress. So that day, I was tired of her messing up my dress and I've given her way too many chances. She would always say that she could fix it and I believed her, so shame on me for believing in her 8 times! Anyways, I wanted to take my dress home and try to sell it and buy another dress because it was beyond repair by that point. I forgot to update my review years ago after she ruined a couple of my garments. I brought in a suit jacket I needed let out in the back and have the sleeves shortened before New Years. She said it would be no problem. I called New Years Eve to see if they were done and she said yes. When I arrived that afternoon, the sleeves had not been shortened and when I put on the jacket it was actually tighter than before and the entire back seam was puckering. She actually told me she didn't shorten the sleeves because she didn't think they needed it and to just wear the jacket. I had also brought in a coat to have the body and sleeves taken in a bit. The body turned out fine, but there's a place on the back sleeve where 3 seams meet that now looks jacked and don't align even close to properly. read more

I have almost twenty tailored suits and shirts from Italy, England, New York and now four from Canada. My Canadian tailor added to much fabric about two inches in the stomach and chest area. Needless to say I went to see rose. She offered me a good price, alittle higher then some local alterations specialist but what I needed done to these suits... I needed someone who new what they were doing. Being here in Alaska I had little faith in about everyone lol but these were bespoke suits that needed to be let in so I found rose online and took a leap of faith. After visiting with her, I learned that she is a nice person with a great carasmatic personality. She was the first tailor that I have meet here in Alaska that new what good wool was and new it by sight as well as someone who talked with me about lapel quality and designs. Once I left the suits with her expecting this to take a few weeks to over a month I received a text message in 4 days telling me that they are finished and ready for pickup. Most businesses here in Alaska that do alterations and tailoring the person just pays for the items and leaves in a quick rushed manor. Not Rose she took time to make sure that not only did the garmat fit but that it was done properly. She took the time to make sure each and every suit fit just right and that I was pleased with the way it was tailored. All in all here is my rating. She is a 10 out of 10! Her craftsmanship is on par with my favorite and personal tailor out of Italy and worthy of the title Master tailor. I am very pleased, the price is worth the craftsmanship. I found myself in a bind and needed two suits tailored in a hurry, so I was referred to Rose. Having neglected to bring a suit to Alaska for this trip, I found myself picking up two from JC Penny's sale rack that more or less fit, except that they were far too long in the legs. When I put them on for her, she sized the suits up and made some notes. She struck me as very straightforward, eager to help, and funny. I left the suits with her and arranged to come back in a couple of days. Let me tell you...these suits were *perfect*. They fit like they were made for me, and since I normally wear bespoke suits, my standards are quite high. Though the price was a bit high, the quality of work was well worth it! These two suits have received more compliments on the quality of the fit than I can remember, and they're nothing but off the rack. Anyone who can turn a cheap sack suit into such well fitting outfits is a true professional. Take your clothes to Rose. Listen to what she says. Pay her whatever she asks. Rose is a little brash, forward and blunt but always funny and in very high spirits. Last time I was there, she informed me that I could fit "three people" in the shirt I was having altered... which was true! I always appreciate her good-natured banter and honesty. She turns out good, accurate work but it'll cost you! Recently I dropped off a shirt to have it slimmed down and pre-payed $45. The price always seems a bit steep but frankly, I never go anywhere else so I'm not sure what to compare it to. This shirt was a hand-made import from the Philipines so... maybe that accounts for the price? In any case, I got it back looking MUCH more my size. I doubt if I'll be looking for a new tailor anytime soon. She does quick work in my experience and while my wallet isn't always 100% onboard, I can't argue with the results. read more

My S.O. and I both swear by Rose's work. He's had slacks and jackets tailored by her, and they ended up fitting him to perfection. I almost always need new pairs of pants hemmed at least a few inches (apparently, women my size are either all 5'8" or they wear very high heels). If I can't do the hem myself, I go to Rose. I've also had her take in some pants that had gotten too big around the waist. The only time the result wasn't perfect (a weird little pooch left on the butt hem when I tried them on), she fixed it right there in the shop, took only a minute, and now they are perfect. I like her shop, the pleasant classical to soothe you if you have to wait for anything. I really like Rose, too, who is always pleasant, funny, and professional. She's actually a bit of a card, and I enjoy that. I haven't compared prices around town, but the most expensive hem I've had done was twenty, for pants with a lining way beyond my mediocre hemming abilities, so it was worth it. She was excellent with my military uniforms! I bombed her with literally all but one set of ABUs to get altered since having kids and losing all my baby weight. I could fit almost 2 if me in my pants lol she got a kick out of it and was very friendly, which was surprising because I was just a weekend walk-in. Rose is super sweet lady but I cant express my dislike for the way she altered my wedding dress. Not only were the alterations terrible, I had to find someone the day of to fix the straps that were not altered even though that is what we discussed. She fastened the liner of the dress to the lace uncentered, you could see the liner on one side. She ripped the lace on the dress and told me that it was already like that and the dress was of poor quality, maybe I should have her take that up with Monique Lhuillier. I also asked for a bustle which she did not put in on my dress is now covered in mud. I would not recommend. Beware of the sweet-talking dress butcher. read more

Rose seemed as though she would be the one to get the job done, but let me tell you, DON'T GO TO ROSE! We brought my daughter's wedding dress to Rose in August, 2013 for a May 2014 wedding. I was visiting my daughter and was so happy that I could go with her while she tried the gown on and Rose told us how she would alter it. A couple of appliques needed tacking; the TAB on the aipper needed to be replaced as it was broken off, a hook and eye needed to be sewn on, the shoulder elastic needed replacement and it needed a bussle. Rose was so excited as she described to us how she would alter the dress and we, too, were pleased that she SEEMED to be genuine and the person who would do a beautiful job. Not so....Rose did nothing to the dress until the day it was supposed to be picked up in April, 2014, and sadly, she did not do what we contracted for. The hook and eye fell off before the ceremony, the zipper was totally inappropriate for the beautiful gown and the bussle.....what bussle? she sewed strings on under the dress in a couple of places that had no purpose....therefore, no bussle. I called Rose after the wedding to discuss our absolute disappointment with her and reminded her that she charged $450 for these alterations that were not done. She told me there was "too much dress" to do the bussle; "I could not find a zipper"; and "I did tack down the appliques." Seriously Rose? When I told Rose I would leave it up to her conscience as to how much of a refund she would give my daughter, she told me that she would give her a $120 gift certificate to her store. I reminded Rose that my daughter would never return to her store, much less give her another $120, she then told me she would hem 12 pairs of pants for my daughter free of charge because they charge $10 a pair. Rose is not meant to be a business owner. When I came in with my wedding dress (6 months prior to when I needed it completed) I was told that this would be time intensive and I was charged accordingly. I came in for 3 subsequent fittings and nothing had been done on my dress. At the last fitting I asked her when can I come in and have my dress finished by? She gave me a date, circled her calendar and I left. The day before the appointment I called to confirm that the dress would be ready. She said yes and hung up on me. I was not surprised when the dress was NOT ready the next day. I told her I needed it done and she did ALL of the $450 worth of alterations in less than 5 hours. I am not happy with my experience here and I think that the way I was treated as a customer was very poor. I was not even given an apology. I was just told that prom dresses had taken precedence over my wedding dress that she had had for six months. read more

Rose spent more time telling me how much I was inconveniencing her with my business and insulting my taste in fashion than actually discussing the job that I was trying to pay her to do. Then she gave me a ridiculous price quote and told me that I shouldn't expect them to be done anytime soon. Rose has no business working with the public. I don't know if she has tailoring skills (because I took my business elsewhere) but, if she does, that is her only saving grace. Stick her in the back and hire someone else to work with customers. I have been burned by Rose's incompetence on more than one occasion, which I suppose makes me a fool. She can hem a pair of pants, but I would not trust her with any task that requires professional alterations skills. I recently asked her to shorten the sleeves on a brand new plaid jacket from Banana Republic. Her tailoring involved folding the material over and sewing a horizontal line through the fabric. It looks utterly ridiculous. Another time she lost a pair of pants she hemmed and I had to go back to her shop three times before she finally located them. She comes across as sweet, but she is unorganized, incompetent and conniving. And I agree with another reviewer who said she overcharges. There's no set fee for any service; she'll charge whatever she thinks she can get away with. If you use her regularly, beware. She will disappoint you one day, or worse, you will have a favorite piece of clothing ruined. read more

I took my wedding dress to Rose two weeks ago just to get a quote on how much it would be to have the work done that I needed. First off, she doesn't speak English very well, so there was a huge misunderstanding about the fact that she would charge $20 for literally three minutes in my dress so she could see what I needed. When the "appointment" was done, she told me it would be $20 and that's where I stressed that it was not made clear up front that I would be charged for showing her my dress. She got all huffy and told me I was, "One of THOSE people." What does THAT mean??? She said she would take the $20 off my final bill, which I thought was kind of high in the first place. Rose was a good tailor for my family, even though she was not able to take criticism. She is a person that won't admit she is wrong and she charges a lot of money. She overcharged for everything. She left for Korea and was stressed resulting in a very expensive dress being altered to were it looked cheap. So bad to when I took it to Nordstrom they asked me if I had tailored it myself! I went to Rose to have my wedding dress tailored and she assured me that it would be perfect. My dress was very big and many changes needed to be made for it to fit well. She charged me $700 for my dress (I found out later that this was nearly twice as much as most tailors charge) but my hope was that the price would reflect the quality of the work that would be done. Every time I went in for a fitting I would let Rose know what I expected the end result of my dress to look like and she would speak over me and would tell me that she knew what she was doing, had been a tailor for many years and would not listen to what I had to say. During one particular fitting I asked her to lift the bottom of my dress but I still wanted it to lay at an angle and I was very clear about what I wanted it to look like the next time I saw her. She waved her hand dismissively and said that she knew what she was doing. The next time I went in my dress was no longer at the angle that it was at before. I let her know that the dress did not meet my expectations and she insulted me in front of my mother. She said that I had been very disrespectful and rude to her every time I went in and that whenever I came in to see her I didn't even say hello. When my mother assured her that she was sure that her daughter had not been rude she interrupted her and continued to insult me. That day I took my dress and I left with tears in my eyes. I then had to go to another tailor to fix Rose's mistake and had to spend even more money on alterations. Later on I went to ask Rose for a portion of my money back to pay my new tailor to fix her mistakes and she said that she had a lot of work to do and that she did exactly what I wanted and refused to give me my money back. I explained to her that she had been very rude to me and that she did not do what I asked and she said that she had spoken to her lawyer about the situation and that if I wrote a bad review on her she would sue me. She then spoke to my aunt who was next to me and said that every time I came in I spoke Spanish to my family and that it was very rude of me. I assured her that I don't speak Spanish and that I didn't speak in a different language with the intention of being rude, I was merely trying to communicate with my family. Needless to say I will not be returning to Rose for any alterations in the future. read more
