I stopped by today just looking around, and didn't find a single thing. The quality of items was lacking and the prices felt a bit out of touch. $88 for a used Patagonia cotton top? Pass. Even the clearance rack was high. Last year I found a lovely evening gown that was reasonably priced, but I wouldn't recommend this store for everyday clothes. You're better off buying new elsewhere for a little more but that's not worn out. The staff is nice and the location is just a quick walk across the street from 5th Ave mall. read more

This is a great store of you are looking for high end clothes. They only have female clothing. The place is small but nicely done. They just didnt have anything practical that you will need for every day use. Again If I was going to a wedding, out to dinner, or a business meeting this the place. If your looking to get dirty on an Alaskan adventure dont bother going. They didn't even have coats or rain coats. This store has some nice clothing and a few accessories, although I think some of the accessories are overpriced, especially used handbags. Still, for Anchorage, there are nice outfits and vintage clothing available for good prices. I do not shop there much, though, because other than the owner, the employees are unfriendly. The young women working in the store barely acknowledge the entry of customers they do not know, rarely speak or look at customers, and are usually aloof at the register. Do they think they are high fashion Anchorage? I think not, or that if so, so what? Anchorage is a dumpy, unfashionable place, so really they should just get over themselves. Since I'm not comfortable handing my money over to little girls barely able to acknowledge customers, especially their elders, I don't go there unless I am really looking for something specific they might have. The owner should train them better because she is friendly and she is losing business. read more

I don't understand why this store's rating is so low. I've been several times, and I've found great stuff. Occasionally, I see pieces that are high-priced, but every time I go in, I find at least one great bargain. For example, I recently found a pair of Frye sandals for under $20. The store has a boutique style interior that I found a little intimidating at first, but the carefully selected inventory and FANTASTIC shoe section won me over. Twice, when I've complimented girls on their boots, they've told me that they picked them up at Second Run, where they got a great deal. I'll be back. Honestly, the only drawback to this store that I can see is the typical downtown parking. I am a college student so I'm always looking for a deal. I heard about Second Run after visiting Plato's Closet and The Clothesline. The store has a really nice atmosphere that kind of reminds me of Anthropologie. I found a great Marc by Marc Jacobs bag that I couldn't refuse at half the price Nordy's was selling it. They have some nice work attire and really great designer jeans mostly in smaller sizes, though. As for the staff, I am surprised to see so many negative comments from some of the previous posts. The girls were friendly and put my items in a fitting room while I still shopped around. Also, I started consigning my clothes there because I get a lot more money than at Plato's, so it's a nice to use the credit to get something new. They have another store now that is in the same building, which has furniture and dresses and is worth a look around. read more

Favorite consignment shop ever. Customer service was amazing. Everyone was very helpful and made me feel right at home, as I am from California. CUTE clothes. Free people, Lululemon, Hudson's galore. So this place has some positives. The owner is very nice. Clayton is very nice and a young blonde girl that works there too. But I have had multiple bad experiences with the manager. She is a royal you know what. Their is a younger version of her there that is equally off putting. I have come to retrieve items I consigned there and they claim they gave me everything and they did not. They gave me stories about how the item sold since I called to pickup. But my payout had not risen. The girl was very very rude. I walked around the store and found one of my missing items. A brand new pair of shoes. Left missing 2. Also the shoes were all new in the box but they threw the boxes away? I have had the owner go through the items to pick what she would consign only to get a call the next day from the manager to pickup two bags of rejected. The owner accepts and the manager rejects? I had to drive all the way back. The manager said on the phone they were all damaged items. None were and when I got there I said show me and she changed and said not damaged just too complicated for their clientele. Then 2 days later I called them about a missing $700 kaftan dress that was not given back to me or on my paperwork and the manager said it wasn't accepted and it was in the back and they "forgot" to tell me. That the brand was basically beneath them. So I had to go back and pick that up too. I have not consigned since the missing items. I felt very disrespected. read more

I couldn't decide about the stars. On the one hand, I love Ellen. She cares a lot about her customers and her consignment clients both. She will call you if something comes in that you're looking for, as long as you're a frequent visitor. On the other hand, if you're not, you might not hear from her at all, even if you've left something there! Keep in touch! As to the rest of the sales staff, it seems as though they aren't very well-trained in how to be helpful. My late teen daughters think that even Ellen is always judging them and finding them wanting, but I think she's just checking out their current style in order to be able to help them. But you don't get too much consistent help otherwise. I think that generally the staff is shy, rather than snooty--they are often too young to know what to say to the customers. But if you push through that, and ask them for help, you might be surprised. Twice I have gone there in a desperate state of needing something immediately for a reunion or conference. I stated my problem, stationed myself in the dressing room, and within half an hour had been helped to acquire something I loved. So...don't take umbrage where none is intended, and be straightforwardly needy. You'll come out ahead. If you want them to act like they know you, be a regular. read more

This store is located in central downtown Anchorage, just a couple blocks from Nordstrom so it's very easy to swing by to see what's on display. By far, exceptional jewelry (still priced out of my range though). There are some cute pieces from top names (I actually found a Louis Vuitton dress and Dior women's suit in there), but the quality is a little worn for what you are paying. I lucked out on a beautiful Bebe skirt but didn't find much else I wanted. Their purse selection isn't very impressive, but they do have sizes up to 16. And while the larger selection isn't as fashionable as the lower sizes, they still have just as much in terms of items to sell. They didn't list their hours of operation on their website, but I do know that they close on Sundays at 5pm. I think earlier this year they weren't open on Sundays at all. read more

I love this store, the staff are friendly and welcoming. They have sales and fun events from time to time. They even have a $5 rack and some items that have been there for too long are marked down 25%, 50% or even 75%. Most of all the staff are AMAZING. Keep it up! read more

I wish I could give this place a better score. Unfortunately, like the others who have left reviews, I feel that the staff (owner not included) are very rude and snobby. I feel as if they have a patronizing tone when communicating with customers and don't have a great "bedside manner" so to speak. Once in a while they'll hire someone new and she will be very kind and upbeat but doesn't last long. Their selection is alright but a lot is still overpriced for what they're selling. One girl with dark hair who has worked their for years is extremely rude and has been since I've shopped there- maybe she's just mad she works retail, I stopped working retail years ago so I feel comfortable saying this. I'd be inclined to recommend this shop to others and shop there more myself if the employees were polite. Kind of funny they pride themselves on being in the "sono" (south of Nordstrom) district but their customer service would be laughed at my Nordstrom HR & employees. Would highly recommend customer service training for employees to the owner. She is very kind and easy to communicate with in my opinion, from past experiences. The staff is always super friendly! They work to remember you and are always there to help. Recently, they went above and beyond and fixed a garment I purchased. The customer service at Second Run is very poor. They have a elitist attitude which can really rub people the wrong way. I cannot express to you how rude and elitist the girls working there are. I would not recommend bringing any dress or clothing item there of any real value. There is no concern about keeping your item safe. I dropped off several dresses there for consignment - one was a Christian Dior that cost almost $1000 brand new. I was hesitant to take it to Second Run but figured it was worth a shot to get something for my dress. Plus I was told that this store was the only place that would take such a dress. Recently moving here from Pennsylvania, I had no other idea of where to take my dress. I should have chosen Craigs List or even Ebay!! The store placed my dress next to a sequined dress which caused a major snag in the front of my Dior dress. When I expressed my frustration, I was belittled by the staff for evening bringing them the dress, no apology was given to me. I asked the owner to call me - she had the wrong phone # written down so I never got the message. Once I finally reached her, she was very defensive and offered no apology except blaming it on a possible customer. In addition, they had pulled off my other dresses off the floor! No reason given for that. SO frustrating, not even worth venting to the owner or her awful staff. Just get your stuff out of there ASAP and run quickly away. read more

I stop in every time I am in town! Great assortment of mid to high end clothing, shoes and accessories. I was actually surprised to find such an amazing selection in Alaska; it's actually better than most of the consignment shops of the big cities in the lower 48. Some of the prices are a little on the high side- But to counteract that, they usually have a huge assortment of items at 50-75% off. And all of the designer items are relatively reasonably priced. I love to visit consignment and thrift stores when I travel. This one has really good brands at very good prices. Now you aren't going to find Talbott's slacks at $2 (like I did once at Thrift Town in the San Francisco Bay Area) but they did have Eileen Fisher items that were at least half price. (I think the $$$ is very misleading in that regard.) First thing in the door, I was offered a chair to put down my other packages, leaving my hands free for looking through the racks. But I didn't have to do all the work. The salespeople were extremely helpful in searching for sizes and styles. I found just what I was looking for: relaxed pants to wear on the plane back home, and another comfy pair to boot. Sometimes the internet is a waste of time, but sometimes it helps you find great places like Second Run. I'm grateful for that. read more

I have been shopping here for about ten years and although I now live in Vegas it's still my favorite store and I never make a trip to Anchorage without stopping here. Throughout the years, most of my favorite unique items of clothing have come from Second Run. I don't like overbearing sales people who follow me around the store so so I like the way they greet me then let me browse uninterrupted. I always find great surprises on their five dollar rack and I'm always looking forward to my next visit. read more

My daughter and I love Second Run. It's a great place to send your quality clothes that still have lots of life and make some pretty darn good dollars. They also provide a great service of donating (if you request) your items that they don't want to a charity that supports animal welfare/spay/neuter. They have always been nothing but kind and professional, and we appreciate the great bargains and unique items that only they can offer in Anchorage. I was treated like a criminal in this place. The staff talked about me right in front of me that I had stolen the clothes on my arm (which was my coat and sweater due the heat in there). My own clothes are a little winter-worn and wrinkled from all day wear. Even if they had suspected me for some reason, they could have been polite and asked to look, but certainly not talk loudly about me on the phone. Can't they hire an adult to work there who knows how to talk to people? That young salesgirl was rude at the start, but could not handle a situation professionally. I can't say better things about this store! What an awesome boutique with such a helpful staff! I came in for the first time looking for jeans and they had quite a selection. I didn't know what brand would fit me best but the girls at the counter recommended a couple of brands for me. I found some nice pairs of Miss Me jeans and Joe's for a price you really can't beat compared to retail. I also found a couple of cute tops that were BCBG and James Perse. I can say that this store feeds my expensive taste for designer apparel and will definitely be back to shop more. read more

I've been bringing my clothing, and buying, from Second Run for years and will continue to! I think they're the best consignment shop in town. But make sure you know-- they are a consignment shop, not Nordstrom. Yes their customer service isn't something to sing about, but the girls working there aren't there to style you, they're there to make sure the inventory is correct and unlock fitting rooms. I don't find great pieces every time I go in, but when I do find a great piece it's amazing! One of my favorite pieces in my closet- a turquoise Alexander Wang Rocco handbag- I scored here with the tags still on it! SECOND RUN, with it's "contrary to ordinary" fashion, and prices you would pay 90% more at Nordstroms, or city boutique shops, i Star Qualty for sure. When I met the owner, 7 years ago, I knew I had met an authentically caring woman. I looked forward to seeing her as much as I did shopping for exquisite fashions. Having granddaughter's the ages of Ellen's Manager, Buyer and Sales people, I can only tell you, I have never seen an article out of place; a salesperson who isn't ready to assist; in fact,they go far and beyond, even with an occasional obnoxious customer ~ all are treated with dignity and respect by this awesome staff of young professionals. The shop is immaculate, up to date fashion, with season appropriate clothing. Frankly, I do not shop anywhere else, and I work for my trial lawyer husband who needs me to be in stylish outfits for court hearings and trials. What is as much fun, is finding sassy, youthful pieces for those special occasions. A Business, or Shop needs to earn my trust for me to become a client. This shop is remarkable in every way. You will get it all at this boutique. I hope, for your sake, you do not let a disgruntled shopper keep you from experiencing this fashionable, fun and lively shop. Go....you will not be disappointed. I despise this place. I come in here only when I am desperate. The clothes are okay although over priced. The real turn off of this place is the costumer service. The women that work there are beyond rude. Last time I was there about 4 young women were working and an older women I assume to be the owner. When I walked in not a single person said hello. I had an arm full of stuff before I was begrudgingly asked if I wanted a dressing room. Nobody offered help or checked on me, although I am sure they were not busy. You could hear the employees gabbing about their personal life with the owner. I don't ask a lot when I go into a clothing shop but this place is beyond terrible and normally I leave without buying anything because I am desperate to get out. If you want upscale with a smile head over to Blush next door. The women working there are friendly and helpful. And the prices are close to the same (except Blush's stuff is designer and new). Stumbled upon this hidden gem a few months ago, now I'm addicted and started consigning my clothes here. The environment is fun, I'm shocked at the bad customer service reviews; I'm always greeted on first name basis and when I'm feeling lazy the girls always style me, give me honest opinions and call me when pieces come in they know I will love. It's cheaper and more fun than a Nordstrom personal stylist! There is also a home decor side, with amazing antiques and though it doesn't fit my modern decor I always find something I have to gift. Sometimes the costumer service is very snobby and stuck up. It's not like I'm walking into Helmut Lang, Fendi or any kind of high end clothing store, it's a USED clothing store, jeez, which resales high end used clothes for, YES, lower prices then they would be new BUT they are still not labeling them with realistic used prices. For example a new car sold for 40,000 wouldn't be sold two years later even in great condition for only a couple thousand less. DUH, anyways I still love the store. It's fun and clean for a used store and sometimes I will find a nice hand bag. read more

I went in for the second time this weekend on Saturday afternoon. I am a regular at Nordstrom so I thought that I would stop here on the way. It was my second time in there (the first was a couple years ago) and I will NEVER go in again. I have never in my life been treated so poorly. I wasn't looked at, spoken to, or acknowledged in any way. I remember being treated that way the first time as well. I later ran into a friend in the shoe section of Nordstrom. I mentioned where I had just gone and how poorly I was treated. Another woman who we did not know joined into the conversation and said she has been treated the same way there. At least 10 people heard this conversation because Nordstrom was packed. At least 10 people will probably not be rushing in there any time soon. Word of mouth goes a LONG way. I'm sure if I would have been treated respectfully, it could have gone the other way. In reading previous reviews, a lesson or two on customer service might be required.
