Never coming back here. Inside the store was fine, but the employees were awful. We parked in a spot that had NO MARKINGS indicating that it was "employee/reserved" parking, and when we came out we found that our car had been completely blocked in. I went inside to ask the manager for assistance, but instead she said it was one of the employee's and that the spot where we parked was "employee parking". The old man employee who blocked us in said we were parked in his spot, that he PURPOSELY blocked us in due to this, and he even acknowledged that there is no signage to mark these spots! He was acting as though we were just supposed to know that it was employee parking. Yet he was still very rude and would refuse to acknowledge he had down anything wrong. Ridiculously petty attitudes from both the employee and the manager, and I certainly will NOT return to this store. read more

However, they gave us an honest assessment of each item's deficiency. So, unless your items are in prestine condition to resell, don't use their service with intent to make a worthy donation. My go to thrift store in Anchorage. It's been open for decades, you never know what you will find.

So I came down here a few days ago to check if there were some good deals on vinyl records and this is one of the few thrift stores I never can remember to stop in for a visit when I'm driving south from downtown. The Bishop's Attic is located on Gambell a couple of doors down from Cecy's Pizza and a local dive bar. This area is one of the worst in town and I would not recommend coming down here on a frequent basis. Loiterers and inebriates line the sidewalk and the side of the store as you approach the front entrance hoping for a handout. The employees here are not very friendly. None of them greet you as you come in and some of them look like they would rather be elsewhere than working in the store. Rather than asking where the vinyl is, I decided to find it on my own. The store has more of a rundown look with certain areas like toys and electronics cluttered and disorganized with heaps of second-hand items (and that's putting it politely) stacked up in piles. I finally located the vinyl records which were poorly displayed in boxes on the bottom shelf underneath a tangle of electronic wiring and accessories in tubs. They had a decent amount of records in their inventory, but these were poorly placed in the boxes. As a hard-core vinyl collector, it was a sad and depressing sight to see several 78rpms from the 1920's to the early 50's cracked and scattered in the boxes without protective cases. I found some that were in decent condition, but most were either scratched or damaged to even bother purchasing them. They were very cheap at $1 each but the handling and storing of these records don't justify another visit in the future. read more

I like to drop in now and again to see if there's something there that I absolutely have to have. LOL! And I do donate. There's so many people who need a hand up and I look supporting this organization just for that reason. Like all thrift stores I find a treasure now and again. I've found Lenox china, good cookware and sometimes knives and forks that match my set. Books, and magazines and 10 cents and you can find good buys on craft items too. I found a few good bead books. Staff is helpful and kind. You must spend $10 to run a credit card, otherwise cash is accepted. read more

They have been running the place the same piss-poor way for the last few years. I haven't shopped there for quite some time due to the way they miss- manage their operation. Yesterday I called to confirm their hours and what time they actually closed. They stated the dressing rooms close at 5:45, but they are open until 6 p.m. So I drove there and arrived around 5:30 p.m. At 5:40 p.m. a man just shouts out loud and quite rudely (while shutting off the lights inside the store) yelling that you you have to go to the counter they are closed. Why do places like these either employ or accept volunteers who are not only extremely lazy, but unprofessional, rude and obviously would rather be somewhere else. I called the church number listed at the actual website of this place and a woman calls back and leaves a message stating they have nothing to do with the place - it's run "independently", even though the church's name and number is listed at the website. She says it's ran by a board and just gave me the phone number back to the store. How stupid is this lady? Yeah, sure you're going to call back to the very store that could care less about its own customers and inquire as to why they do that, ok. Typical brush-off, like many "religious organizations". They could care less and it shows with how the place is ran and with the so-called independent board they also could care less. Shows you the true character of the church and their lack of caring. As long as they get your money they could care less how they get it. I told her that there are at least five other places in town that I know of that do the same thing - accept donations and give to the poor & the needy. They also sell goods. All the other places are much more professional, friendly, polite and stay open during their stated hours. They have more convenient times and are open later. Do you think the Bishop's Attic even cared? of course not, they are as described in the negative Yelp reviews. read more

Wow, I am sorry this last guy had such a poor experience here. I bought a brand new clock for $3 dollars, and still works 8 years later. Recently I bought a slightly used pressure cooker for $15, regularly $50, and enjoy not soaking beans overnight anymore. This place is on Gambell so maybe there are a few poor looking people perusing the store, but this is a thrift store meaning some people are desperate and need to save those extra dollars for other essentials. This place is one of the cheaper thrift stores in town and there are always some other's junk that you could treasure for a good price. read more

I love this place! The staff is really kind and helpful! Any thrift store is pretty much the same. You find random things, but this place gave me the hospitality of Alaskans. I got rain pants. They weren't on the floor, but the kind lady actually took the time to walk to the back to find me a pair of rain pants. I highly recommend going here. They are a nonprofit and those are usually rockin awesome. read more

I do not shop here but I donate. Staff accepting donation are not pleasant and seems they would rather be somewhere else. Manager is rude too. I want to support this store because I am catholic but those attitude does not in any way represent the values that I am accustomed to. Very sad. read more

Have been coming here for years now. I mostly look for books & have found many treasures. I love hunting for books here & they´re only .10 each! A few very current hardcovers are $1.50 but still, a steal. I´ve also gotten a few pieces of small furniture here & found 2 different rocking chairs over the years. The book section is by far the most organized as there is a volunteer ¨book lady¨ who puts out the books. She´s great. My issue with this store is one of the men who accepts donations. I´ve donated a lot here & one of the guys who takes donations couldn´t be nicer, he´s helpful, friendly & says thank you. The other guy literally glares at you, looks like he hates his job, is rude. I´ve taken CD´s & DVD´s both & each time he picked them up & literally smashed them into a box on the ground. It made me cringe to see my donated items treated that way. I prefer donating here but feel nervous when I go to the door as I´m afraid it will be the mean guy working. I don´t know how to rate this place even though it´s been my go to thrift store for years now. Another comment is that most of the employees in the actual store seem kind of rude also, they never smile & act like they´re doing you a big favor to check you out. Maybe it´s just me. I have been coming to Bishop's Attic for well over 15 years and it is still my favorite thrift store. One of the few thrift stores left that actually caters to people who would benefit from a lower price. I don't shop here as much as I did when I was younger, but I always donate my best stuff here as I know someone who wants/needs it will be able to afford it. People who take donations are always friendly. Places like Value Village are for profit and sale peoples crap for more then it was worth originally. read more

I read that Bishop's Attic was the best thrift store in Alaska. I disagree wholeheartedly. It's dirty and disorganized and filled with junk. The store also didn't have shopping carts, which are important for disabled people like me (not that anyone could get one through that mess anyway!). I went looking forward to a great thrifting experience and left extremely disappointed. Goodwill and Value Village in Anchorage were much better stores than Bishop's Attic. As an avid thrifter I enjoyed this place. Reasonable prices ($4-$10 an item). Grabbed some vintage suede high waisted pants for $9 and a mustard yellow sweater I.magnin vintage dress for $10 and a few vintage bangles for $1 each. I've only been once but enjoyed my easy shopping experience with great prices. Definitely check out their "funky" section. So good! read more

4.5 stars! I love this store! I wish I had a thrift store of this quality/pricing/diversity back in Dallas! I think I went there 5 times in the 2 weeks I was in AK! Found a lot of really cheap stuff for my friend's apt. Unlike other thrift stores that think their junk is gold, Bishop's Attic prices their stuff extremely reasonably. 10 cents for books, 5 cents for Harlequin romances, $2.50 for women's blue jeans, most coats under $20 - many under $10. Found a package of 4 40 watt E17 bulbs for $1 - you can hardly ever find these bulbs in a store, and when you do, you'll pay a lot more than a dollar for them! We even found a working microwave for $7.50! Missed out on a small living room chair and footstool for $7.50. It would have been $40 at Salvation Army. If they stayed open later, they'd be perfect! This is one of the best thrift stores in Town, You have to dig through the items but that is sometimes the best part of the hunt.

If you're the type that avoids certain parts of town, you probably won't like it here. However, if you don't care and you like to search out treasures in unlikely places, then you may be in for a treat. Super cheap prices on most things - especially the books, which are usually 10 cents apiece. It's a bit dirty, but there are good things to be found. Huge selection of records in the back. Lots of clothing with an interesting "funky" section where you'll find, well, some funky things, good spot for vintage clothing. Workers are usually very friendly. Also one of my favored spots to donate, and they are one of the few places that still take beds. read more

its a second hand store that sells used items but i couldn't tell you how many times i have gone and found items still with tags. if i need something they usually have it in decent shape for a great price. the kids like to pick out a toy or game. a little soap and water can make an item like new. as far as the location, i don't mind, i have not had a problem. its the bargains i'm looking for. if you can afford to pay full price then sears is down the street. if your on a budget then you more than likely to find something you need. read more
