Great thrift store. Nicely organized. Helpful personnel. They literally have everything. We found lots of fishing gear, some even brand new!

In one word: Disappointed. I come down to this location every few weeks or so, usually to check the vinyl records that come in from donations. This Value Village is located on the corner of E. Northern Lights and Boniface Pkwy in the same strip mall that houses Little Caesar's and a dollar store next door. The employees here are helpful at the registers, but they are virtually nonexistent out on the sales floor. Vinyl selections are decent depending on when you come in, but the inventory here is considerably smaller than their Dimond location. The reason for the two stars is the unreasonable amount of time you have to wait when paying at the front. Lines form fairly quickly. The last few times I came down here, there were only two employees manning the registers while the wait can be as long as 10 or 15 minutes as more customers show up to pay for their purchases. The employees need to speed things up at this crucial time especially if one customer has 15 or 20 items in their cart. Other shoppers, who have only one or two items, have to wait for awhile as the cashiers slowly go through the process of ringing up items one by one while the line builds. While in line, an employee came off the floor to the far end register to help a customer with a return. That same employee left the area as two lines started forming and the other two employees were still with the same customers who had a significant number of items in their cart 10 minutes later! This can easily be remedied by adding a third register with an employee out on the floor to stop what they're doing to help at the front. This approach will improve the movement of the lines considerably by utilizing this practice throughout the day and not during a certain rush time. The shopping experience will be better for everyone who can leave as quickly as they come in. read more

However, if you would like home decor on a budget or clothing for much less than retail, there are still things to be found! Take your time. Employees have always been very kind and helpful (to me). This is one of the nicest thrift stores I've ever been to. It's very well organized and clean. Unfortunately, Value Village's pricing system is very arbitrary and kinda pricey. However, due to their arbitrary pricing, sometimes it works out in your favor. Like the time I got a $150 pair of Italian leather slides at this location- Go Me! But when I've looked for other items that should be cheap, particularly used kitchen dishes, canning jars and whatnot, they want WAY too much for them. Not sure what that's about. Thought of this place recently when I came across something that I had bought from here couple summers ago. I was visiting a friend in Alaska and she had all these cool things. Low and behold, she mentioned most are from Value Village. Thus, I asked to go on a treasure hunting adventure! Apparently there are a couple Value Village locations, but my friend suggested this one because it's bigger with more of a selection. I would've bought more things, but I only did carry-on luggage so I had to control myself. I ended up only buying a pair of North Face sweat pants, still in great condition for $8. The other item I picked up was a cross-body purse for $6, received a couple compliments. The verdict is that there are lots of treasures to be found here! Did I mention the great selection of coats/jackets? I saw a couple of North Face and Columbia coats, but not in my size. Next time I visit Alaska, I will bring an extra empty suitcase! read more

I thought I had already posted a review of this joint. Guess not, so here we go. I really like this VV since I've found the most treasures here. Recently, I came in and found a couple of choose your own adventures books, and a VINTAGE KODAK MOVIE CAMERA from the 50s!!! Unfortunately, I tried on a sweater that didn't smell bad on the rack, but when I tried it on I couldn't get it off fast enough. I was gagging so much I almost tripped running out of the dressing room, trying to get my own shirt back on, and I would have run out undressed if it took me any longer. Coincidentally, I had just bought the same sweater at Costco, but didn't know it at the time. This is my favorite VV, and I will come again. read more

Value Village - Holy moly, what a find! - Thrift Stores Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

New to Anchorage, and stopped in to check out VV because in Reno we have Savers, and they are sister stores. This store is smaller, but very very clean, and organized. I've never seen a 2nd hand store that was this clean and organized, and I find that if you keep a store clean the shoppers will appreciate it and not go through it like a tornado. The fitting rooms were clean, and clothes were hung up instead of thrown all over (thank you!) There was a nice selection of warm clothes (when you can only bring 2 carry ons on a plane - you need to supplement your winter wardrobe somehow!) It was a nice 2 hours and $50 spent. Prices are double what I'd pay in Reno, but I guess that's an Alaska thing. read more

Pricing is very sporadic and often ridiculous. Totally depends who is working. I brought up two items that were pretty much the same up to the cashier. Jacket was different colors, same color tag, same size. Called the manager over, but he said it was on account of the condition. One was a little dirty, definitely not stained and would definitely come out in a wash. I don't see how that would account for a $5.50 difference in price. Another time I went I purchased some toddler Carhart overalls for $9.99 and this time I found a pair for $1.99. Same size, but the $1.99 was in better condition. Definitely had to scoff at the managers comment about condition on today's visit. On the flip side the cashier was awesome. Went out of her way to save us money on our transaction. Learned that the hero card gives you a discount on your whole transaction with no dollar limit. Whereas the rewards program has a limit for up to the first $100. Cashier mentioned you probably can't use it on the same day earned. Definitely this place has some issues, but it's worth the visit. I usually always spend at least $100 so I can always count on getting 20% every time I shop here, so it makes the pricier items more reasonable. Found some gorgeous gems here. Bought a click trainer for my cat there. I read the directions and followed them, but I think the training kit is broken. My cat still does what it wants. I found a cool Ocean Pacific shirt that my mom wouldn't buy me back when they were popular. I have to hide it though, so she don't think I'm disobeying her. There was a really weird smell in there. I like the thrift store "theme" going on there. It seems like it would be less intimidating for poor people to shop there too. I think its amazing that they have such a variety of retro clothes for sale too. It almost looks like real '80's clothes. I think it would help if the update their books though. I saw a book on how to operate Windows Me for Dummies. I wonder how long that's been on the shelf! If your looking to pick up chicks, this place isn't for you. I'd probably stick with the bars. Surprisingly strong selection for plus-size gals! I hope I don't regret posting this review, but I absolutely love this location for plus-size clothes, cheap. Granted, any thrift store is something of a treasure hunt, but Value Village does a nice job of organizing the merchandise so you can find your size(s) quickly and determine whether there's anything worth trying one. Which you can do. There are a row of fitting rooms at the far end of the store, near the jewelry counter, along with a discard rack that is cleaned out fairly regularly by staff. The cashiers are always friendly, quick, and eager to let patrons know about upcoming sales or other events. read more

If you like to find a great deal for nothing, this thrift store is one of the best ones I have been in. First of all, I usually find most thrifts store to be a "mangled" piles of stuff in disarray. Well NOT here. I was amazed at the organization and the cleanliness. Even hats were orderly hung from racks. We just moved here and our stuff is in transit, we needed a pot and a couple glasses. I found exactly what I was looking and more, in fact the pot is a Belgium Le Creuset style pot that would have cost me possibly 10 times as much. Me happy! -blink blink- read more

If you're shopping for vintage it's a little picked over but I did find an 80's leather fringe jacket for $15 I'm dying over. That one item was worth this trip for me. Actually I love coming here to see what art has been donated. I have been able to pick up 3 originals for about 75.00 and have had offers of over 200.00 apiece for each of them. That is half the fun of this store! Many other items are here but that's my favorite! read more

I went to value village searching for a blender. They had one that was extremely dirty for a price of only $20. Wow, such a great buy yet I couldnt rationalize spending that much on a used blender in desperate need of sanitizing. I went to walmart right after and found the EXACT same blender for $22 (brand new and clean). Value village is over priced despite the naming convention and fact the items are donated. ALSO my wife has purchased items there that had their original price tag still intact..... She paid more than the original price ha! read more

I love this place to peruse, but most of all to donate. I have dropped off many a big bag with lots of good stuff that I can no longer use. Just the thought of making someone's moment, day, or life a little bit better makes me feel good. The donation area is around the side of the building to the right. Boniface and Northern Lights Blvd. The hours are convenient when needing to drop off while someone is there working. All you have to do is drive up to the roll up door if it is closed, and it will automatically open for you. After hours, they have a bin to donate. I tend to donate reusable items such as clothes (some have been brand new and never worn), coats, linens still in good condition, blankets, books, and also small decorative items that have been collecting dust for too long. Just recently, I donated some Barbie Dolls still in the box, as I have seen the cheapy ones in the store selling for exorbitant prices these days. I hope to make some young girl's life a bit brighter. And the thought that I am helping out people less fortunate than me, or those who are just looking for a good deal means a lot to me. Value Village is a great place, and I'm glad it's here. P.S. I think coupons are available upon donating items to use for discounts while shopping. However, these coupons are not being offered on a regular basis, so I may have to get back to you on that one. read more

Value Village, pretty cool. It's new to me but it was one of the more enjoyable visits of a thrift store I have had. Some of the prices are kinda steep if you ask me. It is clean, well lit, organized, has plenty of staff and also donates to the community. I have shopped there a few times already and can't bitch about it. Overall, I will be back :) read more

I usually LOVE shopping at Value Village despite the overpriced used items, but I don't know if I'd like to shop at this location in the near future. I was shopping there today and was looking at the craft items. Then a worker (who was stocking items) suddenly blurts to me, "sure! Just stand there while I try to pass!!" I had NO idea he was even trying to pass because I was busy shopping and he had just been stocking up items so I didn't think he needed to pass by me. He didn't even say excuse me!!!! "Excuse me" would have worked! Instead he rudely and sarcastically blurted and walked away. If you don't like your job, then quit! Nobody is making you work there! read more

This is a place i love to shop when i've got plenty of time to browse. I usually buy jeans for the family, coffee cups, and books, but there's everything else you could think of in there. My wife and I have shopped this V V many many times. Only to find that their prices are often more than what we can purchase it for at Walmart, Old Navy, Burlington coat factory. Really sad. Would it not be more advantageous to sell for less and get rid of the old stuff and keep the newer stuff coming in? Also like Costco, dealing in selling more for less is a good business practice. I write many reviews but sad to say this is the first time I have ever posted negative feedback. Don't even know where to start the experience was so horrible. So I reside in a tiny Alaskan Eskimo on the North Slope. I am in education at Kali school. We have no stores or resources there and not everyone can afford to shop online. So what I do and have done since living there is compile clothing from thrift and consignment stores to take back to the kids. I was thrilled with the selection at VV but very offended by their staff. Their manager Mathew lost their business hundreds of dollars I had been prepared to spend when he interrogated me about my shopping cart FULL of clothing.i felt ashamed and guilty- he spoke to me like I was a shoplifter. I just returned from Hawaii where I was also shopping for the kiddos. My experience there? Pure aloha spirit! When THEY found out why my cart was full they gave me a discount and some donations. Sorry to say Mathew but I hope your boss scolds you. The customer always comes first. read more

Awful store and staff. Racks were half empty and the employees were just standing around gossiping. The dressing rooms were very tiny. They were having a 30% off club member sale that day. I only found 1 item I liked, a $10 shirt. When standing in line at the checkout I noticed a hole in the sleeve. I asked the cashier if there would be a discount. She called over the manager who examined the tag and said since it hadn't already been marked down when the item was priced she could do 30% off. So it would be $7. Sounded good until they informed me I also couldn't get the 30% off club member sale. What's the point of giving a discount for the damage equal to the sale price if you can only use one discount?!?!? Meaning the shirt is $7 regardless. So basically if an employee would have noticed the damage when pricing the item it would have been marked cheaper (say $7 or $8) and THEN I could use my 30% off club member discount to get it lower. But since I found the damage there isn't any discount over the sale price....... Stupid. read more
