Everything here looks new and the decor is very livable. I could see myself staying for a month or two here. There are amenities like laundry machines, an indoor pool and gym. Parking is available for $5.00 a day. Yes $5 bucks as of this writing..no typo. It is further from the city than other hotels, but the drive is only about 15 to 20 minutes to downtown. Also super close to the airport and with the free pickup and drop off shuttle..it's definitely worth it to stay here. The staff is super friendly especially the night desk clerk and when you wake up there's a free breakfast to start your day! Stay here before everyone finds out. It's a real gem. Tip for people staying a week...they have happy hour on Wednesday if I'm not mistaken and there are bbq that you can use to cook steaks if you like.

Our 2nd-floor room was spacious and comfortable, especially the bed, and a row of windows afforded a pleasant garden view. Breakfast was serve-yourself coffee, juice, pastries and cereal, with fresh berries always on hand in the fridge. This is a family-run business (Strick & Barb have lived here since 1964) so don't arrive expecting a Ritz-Carlton experience. But I'd take the Strickland Arms over some sterile hotel chain any day.

We had a lovely time and I wish we'd actually spent more time lounging around rather than spending our days on the town. The grounds are gorgeous and make you feel like you're in a little oasis. We stayed in the Lady Stephanie room, which was very pretty in the frilly vintage style that is the trademark of B&Bs. Our A/C *mostly* worked. It only got the temperature down to like 78 degrees, I'd say, so still a little on the warm side, but still a relief when it was 90 degrees outside. My one disappointment was that the bed was extra extra firm, which some people will like, but I found it too hard to be truly comfy. We slept fine, but would have preferred a softer mattress. Breakfast is fairly formal--a sit down meal at 9 am with eggs, biscuits, and muffins served on fancy china. Barbara and Co were very friendly, but gave us plenty of space so we didn't feel crowded. I was very impressed that they anticipated all the answers to our questions by providing notes posted in the room. Want to know the wi-fi password? It's on the sign! Wondering how to get towels for the pool? Oh, look, the info is right there!

It has so much potential, but it attracts a questionable crowd. PROS: The room we stayed in was clean, spacious, and seemed to have been renovated somewhat recently. There are 2 nice outdoor spaces to hang out and enjoy the evening, a deck and a covered sitting area. CONS: Loud cars drove thru the parking a lot a few times overnite. Several guests seem to live at this motel. One couple seemed fine, but a couple of other folks just looked *sketchy.* When we left at 7:30 on a Sat. morning, a sheriff's car and a city police car were parked outside. One officer kept banging on the door of a guest room, calling the person by name and telling them to open the door, which they weren't doing. Another was standing in front of the office door ringing the doorbell repeatedly, because no one was there and didn't respond. We said good morning, and he said, "I wouldn't stay here again if I were you." It definitely sounded like this was not an unusual event at this hotel, which matched our impressions about some of the long-term guests.

There are lots of poor quality, poorly executed "features" that are already showing wear and tear. Give the place another 8-12 months and it will be really run down looking/feeling. It's always off putting to recognize that an owner severely underestimated the budget needed to run a decent hotel, spent a fortune on the building and location and then cheaped out on everything else. Pro: location Cons: AC - hallways are not air conditioned and hot and humid in the Texas heat. Room AC is fickle. My family member was afraid to adjust it after the first one broke, so they just bundled up in blankets. TV remotes and service are terrible. We could only access over the air local service - no cable or streaming capabilities, and you have to type in the channel number instead of just selecting from the guide. Loose toilet seats - by itself, no big deal, but my family member had to change rooms because the AC in the first room left the room feeling very humid and the second room's toilet seat was even looser. I fixed the first one by tightening the fasteners, but didn't know until they left that the second room has the same problem. Housekeeping should have caught this if they were cleaning the toilets, so I wonder what else they didn't do. Room doors don't open and close properly. The lights flash red and green when you put your key card on the outside lock. You have to try the handle from multiple angles just to get it to unlock. When inside, the door doesn't latch unless you put your full body weight against it to force it to latch. Fridge, microwave, and coffee maker are placed in a small, weirdly angled spot by the bathroom that is tricky to navigate. We didn't use it, but the pool is very small and unappealing. There are plenty of other nicer hotels nearby (on the other side of the freeway and just a little farther north. They aren't much more cost wise. That's where we will go for future stays.

Ivan was the front desk clerk that was apart of this check in process. I presented the card I used to pay in advance along with my Identification upon check in, he confirmed and let me know it would be a $50 dollar incidental fee. I agreed and proceeded to unlock my phone to pay and he proceeded to tell me I could not use another form of payment or Apple Pay to pay the deposit for incidentals. I explained to Ivan that I've stayed at this property before and have done so and is that something I could see in writing . He proceeded to pull up a Google document and said "I could just look it up". He then prompted me to use a physical card and I again explained to him I did not want to use the Same card for the deposit and that I wanted to use my card on my Apple pay, which you guys offer at your property . If it were a concern for fraudulent activity, why would it be offered as a form or payment . When prompted to pay I used to the form of payment of my tap to pay and it approved. He then told me he was denying me entry due to me using the tap to pay. His actions were completely unacceptable and unprofessional. This seemed very racially motivated. Additionally I was contacted by Terri B, the General Manager (who wasn't present) and she was very dismissive, lacked compassion , and comprehension. She ultimately supported her employees poor actions and did not do anything to assist me as a customer or member. When I reached out to the IHG guest relations team, a representative forwarded me Ivan's EXACT words that he stated upon denying me entry (see attachment) . THE MESSAGE WAS VERY RACIST! IHG ultimately refunded my points and cash , while first saying they could only do POINTS . This entire situation was disappointing, and I will not recommend this property to anyone, especially women of color.

The rest of our family members returned home on 6-01 so we checked out of the estate & came here. We wanted to stay behind to spend more time with our TX family. The Atwell Suites fit the budget perfectly. This hotel is conveniently close to the airport. As an IHG member, I was able to get great member rates. I chose this hotel because I saw it recently had renovations & provided a complimentary daily breakfast. Check in was quick & friendly. The young man was very welcoming & told us about the breakfasts & pointed out the location. We were there just in time for their Bar & Bites but it's not complimentary and rather pricey. We checked into the suite and it had a modern decor, was in great condition & was clean. We had an issue with the shower and they addressed it rather quickly. The bed & pillows were very comfortable and their air conditioning worked very well. They had beneficial black out shades, which assured a good night's sleep. They provided high end skin care, Apotheke, in the bathroom. The scent was pleasant & subtle. Shower had excellent water pressure and towels were plentiful. I took one star off because they had a nice, big counter but only had one barstool. The kitchenette area had a small refrigerator & small microwave. They had a bench in the area, which was not a good use of space. A small bistro set would have been ideal since only one barstool was furnished. The closet had 2 access points: one from the bathroom & another from the kitchenette. It would have been nice to have a dresser in the room to store additional items instead of constantly going into suitcases. There was a TV in the room conveniently placed across from the bed. We couldn't believe all the channels they provided. It was like being at home so we really appreciated that. The days were so exhausting that it was nice to come here to chill while watching our favorite shows. Most hotels only provide a handful of channels. It was so convenient & a money saver to have a complimentary, hot breakfast each morning and the offerings didn't really vary from day to day. The breakfast was in The Common and shared the space with the lobby. Their 24-hour beverage station was convenient and was located in a very nicely decorated and comfortable looking seating section situated across from The Common. Coffee was excellent. They also had a conference room, which could be reserved. Check out was quick but not very friendly. The young lady told us she was having a bad day when I asked to take her photo. She refused & I honored that. Some people aren't suited for hospitality. I'm so sorry you had a bad day but that's the worst thing you can say to a customer. Instead you should have thanked us for our stay since customers like us keep you employed. The customer service I received over text messages, however, were very professional and responsive. Due to the issue with the shower, they compensated me with additional points, which wasn't expected but appreciated. Their commitment to superb customer service was evident. Unfortunately, it didn't spill over into some of their onsite staff. Nonetheless, we were thankful for the very comfortable and relaxing stay. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again in the future.
