I was in town for the Uncorked wine stroll. I found the Oak Motel on Bookings and saw that it had been recently updated/renovated, so we gave it a shot. I believe they are still working on the improvements, so it is a work in progress. The location is great, very close to the square. We could've walked. Cute, historic motel. When I arrived, there was no-one in the office, I stood there for a few minutes and opened the door again so the door bell would ding again. A man came out of the adjoining quarters and greeted me, it looked like it was dinner time. Check in was easy, I was given a key (a real key) Ol' School LOL. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I added photos. I slept well aside from the noise outside and the light coming through the curtains that would not close all the way. We did not have hot water, so imagine a cold shower! When I went to check out at 8:30am, the lobby door was locked. I dropped the key in the unsecured drop box near the door and called the front office (sounded like I woke her up) to inform them of the key drop off and that the room had no hot water. No resolve other than they would look into it and get it fixed. I left it at that. Pros: Location, Affordability, Cleanliness. Cons: A few improvements needed. Hot water needs to be working in all rooms. Curtains need to close all the way. There were not very many power outlets, none in the bathroom, 1 by the nightstand and 1 usb port on the lamp. Tubs/showers need updated (at least for the room I was in). The grout definitely needs replaced/cleaned. Bathroom window needs a screen. Key drop should be secured. Overall, an OK stay. :)

From the outside, the motel looks pretty run down, and the fact that the soda machines are somewhat out of order along with the ice machine is kind of disappointing.

Upon arrival he was extremely professional and kind at the front desk. The hotel is immaculately clean and does have modern upscale Decour. Couldn't be happier. The rooms are HUGE!! Ps. To the other yelper below...Most places don't have free weights as they are a liability.

Refrigerator & clean towels were provided in the room. For these things alone, I would've given a 5 star rating. And, I love that pets are allowed; but, this is where the 5 rating becomes a 3. Pets are allowed and it's quite noticeable the moment I opened the door to the room. The room smelled heavily of pet urine the moment you open the door. Frayed carpeting, sticky floors in entry & bathroom. Strong smell of pet urine in the corners of the bathroom that worsened as you got closer. Heavily stained furniture. I avoided sitting on the sofa. Door of our room: Damaged and warped at the bottom corner of the door, leaving a significant gap between the lower corner of the room door and door jamb. As a woman, if traveling alone, I would not have felt safe. It was late and told no other rooms were available. Later found out that there were other rooms with 2 queen beds available, ours was a King room. Extremely large rooms. In room coffee maker is available upon request but I highly recommend their fresh ground coffee offered at breakfast. Although a shower cap and laundry bag weren't offered in the room, I was able to obtain them from the front desk. The shower/tub combo doesn't have a clean or inviting appearance. Surprisingly, the pressure was super nice. Bathtub/shower combo had a non-slip surface but pealing around the drain. Again, despite the appearance, the shower delivered an extremely relaxing spray. Bathroom toilet and sink were very clean. Other room amenities: Iron with iron board. 2 hangers. Complimentary toiletries included hand wash, lotion and hair dryer. As another reviewer said, this place has so much potential. The odor and sticky floors were very off putting - Found myself playing a mental game of the Floor is lava. When I got into the car the following morning I could smell pet odor emitting from the soles of my shoes. At this point, I called the hotel, I spoke to the manager and let her know how unsettling & unpleasant the odor was. She was very confused by the odor, saying no one had used the room for a very long time. They just replaced the AC in that unit. In spite of what she said, it smelled like a boarding kennel and that a dog had been left unattended for a while. She offered to check it. Although I left a privacy placard on the door, I gave her permission to enter and have a housekeeping attendant to enter with her to mop the floor; which improved the situation. I'd really like to give this establishment a 5 star rating because the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and clean, as were the towels. They were very fresh and white as any 5 star hotel. I'm giving a 3 rating for others to be aware. I love that it's a pet friendly place. Sometimes leaving fur babies at home is unavoidable. Truly, it's a joint effort of the hotel guests to help the hotel management to keep the establishment cleanly. I'd advise to travel with a crate or a play pen for your pet. As a pet lover I'm very compassionate so when I stay in pet friendly hotels I travel with Febreze Pet Odor remover; which was a huge save on my allergies and made my 2 night stay tolerable. I hope to hear they've made improvements in the areas of safety and odor. I'd like to stay here in the future. I hope this helps you on your journey and I wish you safe travels.

Paranormal Activity Cut Our Visit Short!…read more We were looking forward to a relaxing weekend at Belle Oaks and were drawn in by the charming photos and description. But from the moment we arrived, it was clear that--while still beautiful--the inn was showing signs of wear, a faded echo of its restored glory from 20 years ago. What we liked: The property retains a nostalgic charm, with antiques adorning every corner. The hosts greeted us warmly and shared a bit of the inn's history. To their credit, they did warn us that the older electrical circuits might cause occasional flickering lights. What we didn't expect: Lights turning on and off by themselves. The television powering on in the middle of the night. Bed sheets being pulled off us while we slept. Feeling as if I was being touched and it wasn't my husband. The paranormal energy was far more intense than we'd anticipated--and ultimately, we decided to cut our trip short. Other concerns: The pool was dirty, and while breakfast was tasty, it was surprisingly sparse. As someone who's stayed in many bed and breakfasts, this was the first time I've encountered a buffet-style setup with no table settings, no water service, and a limited selection. We left both hungry and unnerved. Speaking with locals we learned that stories abound about hauntings in Gonzales.

We were in La Grange,(yes, the ZZ Top song,) for the Round Top Antique Show. We could stay in Bastrop for $324 a night, or here, for $105 a night. Upon entering the room, everything seemed ok. Beds, shower, A/C, and TV, check. Where's the coffee maker? What? Ok, no coffee in the room, and no free breakfast, which is what we're used to. No problem, Walmart can fix that. We bought a coffee maker and all the accessories we would need. Frozen breakfast sandwiches in the microwave would be good enough. Ok, here we go. The reception on the tv was fuzzy, meaning a so so picture on most channels. The A/C was cold and worked great, but was so loud you had to turn the tv volume up, and then back down when it went off. Beds were comfortable, and we slept well, but look at the picture of the bed frame. Glenda's leg is bruised from walking into that. I bumped it, and cussed, several times. The microwave had no defrost cycle, so breakfast was you get what you get. The shower had great water pressure, and plenty of hot water. When we came back the second night, they had not refreshed the towels. The next morning, I asked the front desk for extra towels, please. When we got back the third night, we had...2 towels. Oh well. The empty Kleenex box was finally replaced the third day. Now, did we have a cool room and a bed for 3 nights. Yes we did. But that's all we had. If that's all you expect, this place will work. But we like bigger and better, so we will book a room way sooner so we can stay elsewhere next time. Thank you for your time. By the way, the antique show is HUGE!! Instead, we were met with the old bait and switch which we did not fall for. Your local hotel tried to hustle us. I booked my room via Booking.com on 9/15 which was prepaid in full. We arrived at River Valley Motel around 5:12ish today 10/17 to be advised that our room was cancelled on Tuesday 10/15 @ 9:34am. This was untrue. JD at the front desk said we cancelled. I ensured him over and over again we did not. If we did where is my refund and cancellation confirmation. Told him I was looking at my very active reservation. He acted as if he did not care and proceeded to give me a cancellation paper of my cancellation. This cancellation had some inconsistency and red flags. Here are a few 1. It was not my reservation number via booking.com 2. The cancellation was sent to his personal email vs his work email JD was not trying to locate or find out what the issue could be, but said he had several cancellations, and I should call who I booked with and kept trying to tell me OYO hotels and booking.com are the same (flag#3) (all with a smirk on his face - actually the entire time we were there!) I sat in the lobby and called booking.com directly. They confirmed that my booking with the company was active and that they could see it. Then asked to place me on hold while they call the hotel to find out what was going on. While this call was taking place another couple came in. Same exact issue and they were cancelled the same exact day approximately 1 min before our reservation 9:33am. This couple went ahead and booked directly with the hotel all while JD smirked, and his partner did not seem so happy about it. He looked a bit worried. Now the agent is back on my cell. Contact was unsuccessful with hotel. He said there was no answer. I advised him that would be true as there is no phones ringing in the place. We are in the lobby. The guy at the desk overheard and he goes "OH we changed our number and gave me a card'", I read the number to the booking.com agent and they could not call the number as they are only allowed to us the numbers on the hotel file with them and they could not speak to him via my phone because it's against company policy for protection of me and fraud. He said it sound like a bait and switch here. I will email the hotel to find out what is going on. Please give us 30-45min to contact me back. Booking.com emailed me, and I called them back. The hotel never responded and now I was without a room over 6 hours away from my home (415mi). I wasn't surprised by the hotel not responding. I figured if the phone number was incorrect, so is the email. I ended up rebooking to the next town in Columbus over 25 min further and out of the way from my original travel plans. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
