We had an amazing experience at Bass Pro Shop in Sun Prairie, WI when we went to pick up our boat. The paperwork was ready and easy, they gave us an hour of instruction on how everything worked, and then they went above and beyond! Our trailer hitch wiring was the wrong one, so their boat service people actually took 2 and spliced them together for us! They plugged it in, and everything worked immediately and we were on our way. We couldn't ask for better service. They were so helpful. It's been over a month and the boat is perfect. We feel like we were treated like royalty! I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. read more

We were on the hunt (during boat clearance season) for a fishing style pontoon boat. We found one we wanted that is carried by Bass Pro Shops. But, again, it was clearance season and we tried to get one at the Bass Pro Shops in the Milwaukee area and no dice. We tried Green Bay--nope. So when we found that they had one here while we were on vacation in Door County, we were hoping we'd be able to reserve it in some way without making the drive. They allowed us to do so by putting down a refundable deposit. We did so and they got the boat prepped for our purchase and we were able to pick it up a few days later. Everyone we worked with was helpful and friendly. They walked us through the boat and made sure we felt completely comfortable with everything before taking the boat away. The store itself is brimming with outdoor goodness. Everything was neat and in order and help is readily offered. No complaints! Get to it! read more

I arrived after they closed and departed well before they opened, this Cabela's allows overnight RV parking in their lot and I'm a fan of that. A few others here including a massive Class A with a long trailer that was taking up seven parking spaces and since the place is closed, no one cares. I really like the variety available at Bass pro ( cabelas). I liked it better before the buy out. Bass Pro seems to have a bit of a take it or leave it attitude towards customers. Sales folks are at a premium especially in some areas of the store. The clothing is super, and priced accordingly. HIGH!! Most shooting accessories are priced on the very high side. Many times I was unable to find what I was looking for. I can't help wondering if the Sun Prairie location so close to ultra liberal Madison has an impact on the merchandise that they carry. I think that sometimes this retailer forgets that it was the sportsman and their buying habits that made them. All the other outdoors equipment came later. Very ample parking in their huge lot. Restrooms are clean. Checkouts, for some reason, always seem to me backed up. Rarely are all available checkouts manned and in use. read more

Hilton salesman was pushy otherwise good you should visit but stay away from the fish tank

Fishing gear is overpriced. Quality is subpar. They've downsized the fly fishing section and their inventory is pathetic. I joined their Club program and got the credit card for the points, but they charged me interest two months in a row even though I had paid my balance in full. Luckily, I caught it and, after arguing on the phone, got the interest charges refunded. This store and its points program is a rip-off. Save your money and get a better value elsewhere. read more

Originally, I called this Cabela's looking for a specific firearm and they didn't have it, so I went to another store further away. That store turned out to be a bust. I went online and found another semi-automatic that I wanted and had it shipped to this location. The gun arrived early along with its ammunition. I went in to sign paperwork and do the background check (handgun) and was helped by Nick at the firearm counter. He was awesome -- friendly and helpful. He was great with customer service and spent the time we needed to get everything squared away. He was thorough and explained everything to me clearly, answering all my questions. It was a very pleasant trip! The background check cleared within a day and I was grateful that Cabela's takes the care to keep Wisconsin safe but also allow people to obtain firearms. Meanwhile, my husband took his fishing pole to be strung over in the fishing department. A young guy helped him out, just for the cost of the line. It's awesome that Cabela's offers this service because other stores will not. It's one of the only places we've found that does it -- we had this pole sitting around for a year unstrung. This store was clean, had a great selection of everything we were looking for and I appreciated my experience at their store. Purchased a used carbine through this store over the phone, the only way available to have it shipped to my ffl. They took the order charged my account, and said they would keep me updated. Never heard from them again until i tried to call them. I had to keep calling Cabela service center to get through to them because every time i called the "phone is not taking messages at this time" nor does their email system work. After 3 phone calls (always through Cabelas service center, throughout the week, got no firm info on the progress of shipping. A week later, still hadn't been shipped. I cancelled the order. If they cant provide an order # or a tracking# I just can't rely on their service. Like I was bothering them to ask questions. I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more

It's been awhile since I last reviewed Cabela's and forgot that they merged with Pro Bass since then. Some products have the Pro Bass logos on them and some don't. I was disappointed that the items I was looking for were out of stock and many of the shelves are empty. I guess they have supply problems just like everyone else even with the merger. There's still plenty of merchandise just not what I needed. The store clerks were around and one even asked me if I needed help! Wow, I'm glad we have the store here It just seems that they are always out of what I'm looking for. Like most places masks are no longer needed and there are no wipes anywhere. The water supply over the sinks in the mens room said "out of order" as well. Not good. Still like stopping in here but a little disappointed to leave empty handed. read more

First time walking into a Cabela's, and it feels like a treasure hunt looking for supplies to go fishing this weekend. I'm picking up a new rod and some fish bait. There's quite the selection here and it can get overwhelming since I've never gone fishing before, so I'm just following my boyfriend's lead on supplies to get. Nonetheless, the store is quite organized by outdoor activities, such as camping and fishing with a wide selection of items to check out. The entrance was very neat, pleasantly scented, and lots of fun decorations all around. There's also plenty of outdoor clothes and almost anything and everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors! Swing on by and check out this awesome selection and see if Cabela has what you need for your next great outdoor adventure! I went there over the weekend and I went to buy a yeti load out gear box and multiple shelf tags all read 250.00 originally 300.00. I was going to buy one but I made a mistake And asked for help and boy did I get it. The associate noticed the signing mistake and ripped all the price tags down and would not honor the mistake. All staff were very friendly and we didn't need to look too hard for a sales associate to help us. We found a camp stove and accessories and the checkout went smoothly. This location offers very easy access, plenty of parking, and so many outdoor options to choose from. They have all your outdoor needs. After leaving, I called the store and spoke to the manager (Tricia) who was not helpful and very rude. She informed me that it is company policy to not enforce the mask mandate that is in place. Clearly they do not care about the health, safety, or welfare of their customers. Would not go here again. read more

I really, really didn't expect to like this store. I am not outdoorsy, every fishing rod looks exactly the same to me, the chances of me owning a gun or hunting knife are about zero, and ditto on owning anything with a camo print. So how did they earn five stars? Because they do what they set out to do impeccably and provide one of the most pleasant shopping experiences regardless of what they sell. First, the store is always in perfect condition. Racks and shelves are tidy, everything always appears fully stocked, bathrooms are clean, and I've never seen so much as a gum wrapper on the floor. The store is brightly lit and care was taken in the design. The waterfall and canned animal sounds make you feel closer to nature than you should in a warehouse-sized store and the menagerie of taxidermied animals are displayed tastefully in natural tableaus similar to what you may find in a natural history museum. For clothes, they have oversized rooms to try on your wares that provide privacy and don't require a hike across the store to find. In the shoe department there's a rocky incline you can test footwear on so you can get an idea of cushioning and grip. While browsing I've been greeted but never approached by salespeople; they're always around and super helpful if you have a question or need assistance, but they don't bother you or try to up-sell you while you're looking around. The items at Cabela's can be a little pricy, but they seem well constructed and meant for real use. I've gotten a couple of sporty dresses I love on clearance and recently utilized their free site-to-store shipping for a cozy cardigan that I've looked at every time I've been in the store but hadn't pulled the trigger on until they were nearly sold out and didn't have my size. In the back right corner of the store they've got an entire room of markdown items. Prices are already reduced, and if they're stamped with a colored "C" there is an additional discount up to 40% off the discounted price. Blue antlers mean the item is half off and as far as it will be marked down. My boyfriend just bought two pairs of work boots for less than the price of one, which was a pretty sweet deal. The only place I can offer a point for improvement is the checkout lines; they tend to be long and slow moving. Even when multiple registers are open it still seems to take forever. I'm not sure if it's just due to inexperienced cashiers, regulations on the types of items they sell (like crossbows and rifles), or a combination of the two. Either way, some continued training for checkout staff probably wouldn't hurt. I didn't think I'd look forward to my outings to a sporting goods store, but truth is I don't mind poking around when my jig-tying angler boyfriend wants to go. read more

I continue to be underwhelmed by this store. Selection is good but the customer experience is horrible. In my last 3 visits here is whats gone wrong. 1. Went to buy scope rings for my sons rifle and asked for help. Salesman gave me what I needed (he thought). Paid and went home . Find out they are completely wrong even though I told him the rifle model and the scope. 2. Went to return the rings and had to take a gift card even though I had the receipt. 3. Went to buy a scope today for my godson and waited 15 minutes even though I knew exactly what I wanted. The only salesman around was too busy with someone else while 4 of us waited. I walked out buying nothing. I guess it will be Gander or Fleet Farm until this improves. Sorry Cabela's, you lost out on a couple thousand dollars per year on me. read more

Ordered a firearm online. now on day 5 of processing has not shipped, cannot be given any sort of information, order cannot be canceled, cabelas is now showing the item out of stock everywhere though when I ordered it was in stock at multiple locations within 200 miles. Now I'm out money I could be using to buy somewhere else and after reading multiple other reviews it sounds like it could be weeks or a month before any kind of update. For a store that is open 7 days a week, until pretty late at night, 5 days to process a single item order without providing any information or update or allowing a cancellation is a complete joke so Cabelas and bass pro have lost a customer read more

Nice and new store which is well laid out. Pretty good variety of things but prices are on the high side. Occasionally, they have good sales but you simply have to watch as they are not always advertised in the paper or online. Very good customer service. They have four nice stuffed chairs in front of a homey stone fireplace in the front of the store and near their large and clean men's, women's, and family bathrooms. The fireplace seating area is a great place to park it after a long shopping visit or waiting for a companion to get done with theirs! Easy accessibility for our mobility challenged Yelp friends. Plenty of parking, too. Note to self though: they have a lot of stuffed critters displayed throughout the store which may or may not offend certain sensibilities. But they are all tastefully and interestingly displayed. read more

I was pretty excited to have a Cabela's so close by after moving here. It only took a few visits for me to completely disregard this store for any gun purchases. The first few times I went I was just browsing but the place was well staffed and I was getting help immediately. They even allowed me to grip a few handguns and a rifle. However, a few months later I returned to actually buy one. It took almost an hour to get help, and due to the time of the day, the background check would have to wait until the next day. I got that all filled out and left. Four days later. No call. When I called, I was told they would call. A day later, called, still nothing. Fed up, I went in to cancel the order. Funny enough. It had been ready for a few days. No call, and whenever I did call, they couldn't even bother to check Fast forward to a few more visits, and the gun counter service is just getting worse and worse. Even online. The website allowed me to order something to send to the store. Yet hours later, the order is cancelled because it's not in stock Their website isn't even updating itself in time! The place is huge but if you don't have enough staff to assist customers then what's the point of destroying the landscape with your massive building? I went in for the first time ever in Cabela's and it was a Friday night about 5 pm. I spent 2 hours walking around the entire store and not one person approached me to say hello, acknowledge my existence or ask if I needed assistance. Now those of us who are gun owners go these places to look at and handle the firearms we're interested in, then we go online or to the local shop to make the purchase. There's a reason why - we get it for a lot less, support the local small business owners, and know that the small shops know a lot more about those products than anyone at Cabela's. I asked the firearms manager if he was a member of the NRA and he said "no." So you sell firearms and want people to continue buying firearms yet you're not willing to stand up for your rights to own a firearm? That's a hypocrite. They'll end up like Gander Mountain (bankruptcy) if they don't start acting like they care about the customer. Why wait for someone to ask for a price comparison? Just lower your prices. What you're doing is hoping that people don't know they can price compare and pay the high prices you have on your products. That's pretty sad. read more

This store is an enormous outdoor store and they have so much variety of outdoor gear. It is hard to walk into the store and not desire to pick up a new outdoor hobby. They have a big boating department but not so much variety on RV equipment. The back right corner has a separate clearance room. I couldn't really find anything I needed, but there were big brands on clearance such as the north face. Pretty cool to see all the taxidermy animals too. read more

I love this place! It's so easy to find someone to help you when you need it. I really like the fact that the staff at the gun counters are always friendly and available. At Gander Mountain, you'll wait hours for someone to help you and when they're available they are so short and rude. That's the downside of Gander Mountain. Everyone is upset. You don't get that vibe here. Their ammo can be reasonable if you catch them when they are on sale. I've been looking for a Kimber .380 and found a few that I like. Still waiting to go to the gun shows before I make my decision though. Price is about the same for this place and Gander Mountain. Kids love looking at the fishes swimming around in the tank in the back. I would recommend coming here because it's just a really nice place. The taxidermy is really cool as well. read more

This is a beautiful new store. Cabela's is one of my favorite retailers and this Sun Prairie location is a first class venue. The store has an easy to navigate floor plan with plenty of associates to assist customers. The fishing area is very thorough, which includes a designated fly fishing section. The firearm portion of the store has a wide selection of handguns, rifles, shotguns and tactical weapons. My favorite feature of the store is the Gun Library that has some hard to find rifles and shotguns. Of course, the taxidermy display and the fish tank (containing walleye, bass, crappie, bream and catfish) are very attractive. read more

I earlier posted about Cabela's not answering their phone on three separate occasions after a long wait. Yesterday I went to the Sun Prairie store for the first time and will probably be my last. As a recreational shooter I went to the Firearms dept.to possibly buy or at least order a new firearm. One clerk with four people ahead of me. How is it possible for such a store as Cabela's to cheat on service like this with one clerk engaged in long transactions while five people are lined up? Customers at this section may be planning on spending several hundreds of dollars but the management doesn't mind making them wait way too long. Not me I tossed my high service number and left. There are too many other avenues for me to spend my money than with a store with totally inadequate customer service. It is a service epidemic now. When I call a business and hear, "due to high call volume, etc. etc. I know immediately they are making me suffer a long wait to save money by not hiring enough employees. Cabela's falls right into this category even though retail block stores are suffering the loss of customers. They just lost one more, I'm headed to a small independent dealer who actually depends on both product and service to survive. read more

I bought a new shot gun from them and it didn't work, they refused to stand behind it. wouldn't give me my money back because I bought a new gun and now it is used. Went to Cabela's for fishing wader boots. Cruised around the store looking at fishing equipment for about an hour and a half. Saw 5 employees doing nothing, none of them asked me if I needed help, not surprised. Found the boots I wanted, tried them on like them, looked at the price and they were marked on sale. Got to the register to check out and was told they couldn't give me the sale price because it was missed labeled. Manager was right behind store clerk neither of whom offered to do anything about the miss labeled price and told me I had to pay full price. Very unsatisfied with Cabela's and their lack of customer service will not return. read more
