Cabela's parking lot at 7am. That's NOT my ride.
    Bruce K.

I arrived after they closed and departed well before they opened, this Cabela's allows overnight RV parking in their lot and I'm a fan of that. A few others here including a massive Class A with a long trailer that was taking up seven parking spaces and since the place is closed, no one cares. Parking lot is level, the place was quiet and I had a good night's sleep. I do need to return to Cabela's next time for my RV supplies. Thanks! First time walking into a Cabela's, and it feels like a treasure hunt looking for supplies to go fishing this weekend. I'm picking up a new rod and some fish bait. There's quite the selection here and it can get overwhelming since I've never gone fishing before, so I'm just following my boyfriend's lead on supplies to get. Nonetheless, the store is quite organized by outdoor activities, such as camping and fishing with a wide selection of items to check out. The entrance was very neat, pleasantly scented, and lots of fun decorations all around. There's also plenty of outdoor clothes and almost anything and everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors! Swing on by and check out this awesome selection and see if Cabela has what you need for your next great outdoor adventure! Who knows maybe you might just sign up for a membership card and get some awesome rewards in the meantime!

The family and I love Cabela's. All the Knowledgeable staff are awesome and friendly lots of cool camping gear and sportsman stuff. If only I had the money to buy all the things there that I dream about owning.

It's about time Madison gets an equal competitor for Gander Mt. I believe this place has the same and even more choices the Gander. This location offers very easy access, plenty of parking, and so many outdoor options to choose from. They have all your outdoor needs. Camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, and items for your ORV/OHV. They even have a little cafe and gift area on the left back side.

I really, really didn't expect to like this store. I am not outdoorsy, every fishing rod looks exactly the same to me, the chances of me owning a gun or hunting knife are about zero, and ditto on owning anything with a camo print. So how did they earn five stars? Because they do what they set out to do impeccably and provide one of the most pleasant shopping experiences regardless of what they sell. First, the store is always in perfect condition. Racks and shelves are tidy, everything always appears fully stocked, bathrooms are clean, and I've never seen so much as a gum wrapper on the floor. The store is brightly lit and care was taken in the design. The waterfall and canned animal sounds make you feel closer to nature than you should in a warehouse-sized store and the menagerie of taxidermied animals are displayed tastefully in natural tableaus similar to what you may find in a natural history museum. For clothes, they have oversized rooms to try on your wares that provide privacy and don't require a hike across the store to find. In the shoe department there's a rocky incline you can test footwear on so you can get an idea of cushioning and grip. While browsing I've been greeted but never approached by salespeople; they're always around and super helpful if you have a question or need assistance, but they don't bother you or try to up-sell you while you're looking around. The items at Cabela's can be a little pricy, but they seem well constructed and meant for real use. I've gotten a couple of sporty dresses I love on clearance and recently utilized their free site-to-store shipping for a cozy cardigan that I've looked at every time I've been in the store but hadn't pulled the trigger on until they were nearly sold out and didn't have my size. In the back right corner of the store they've got an entire room of markdown items. Prices are already reduced, and if they're stamped with a colored "C" there is an additional discount up to 40% off the discounted price. Blue antlers mean the item is half off and as far as it will be marked down. My boyfriend just bought two pairs of work boots for less than the price of one, which was a pretty sweet deal. The only place I can offer a point for improvement is the checkout lines; they tend to be long and slow moving. Even when multiple registers are open it still seems to take forever. I'm not sure if it's just due to inexperienced cashiers, regulations on the types of items they sell (like crossbows and rifles), or a combination of the two. Either way, some continued training for checkout staff probably wouldn't hurt. I didn't think I'd look forward to my outings to a sporting goods store, but truth is I don't mind poking around when my jig-tying angler boyfriend wants to go.

Prices are a little high but a pretty good variety. Helpful sales staff.

The charging system with the generator gave up and more concerning our furnace quit working. Since it was late in the season we decided to bring the rig back and have the work done closer to home. Since Gander RV took over from Camper World we decided to give them a try. We had decided to not let our poor experiences with Camper World carry over to Gander. What a great decision that turned out to be!! Gary was our contact and boy did he do a great job. He stayed in close contact and kept us in the loop during each "diagnosis " to discuss options. The two problems were fixed up and during the processes we even added a couple more things to the wish list which were promptly taken care of. All was done on time and for the prices quoted! Thanks again Gary and Gander, we're back on the road , all good!

It kept me so warm and toasty in the brutal upper Midwest winters. I discovered the Marmot brand here in the 1990s. Back in the 1990s, Patagonia was not considered as "technical" and as bougie as Marmot and The North Face. Arcteryx either didn't exist or was an obscure brand almost thirty years ago. Now, Patagonia and Arcteryx are off-the-charts insanely priced. Marmot and The North Face are considered "value" brands. In any case, I still buy Marmot; it's better quality and far better value than Patagonia because: 1. Higher down fill power and 2. Higher down fill weight I recently bought a 700-fill down parka from Marmot with 220 grams of down for far less money than a 600-fill down parka with 150 grams of down from Patagonia. I was cold in the Patagonia parka, and it was horribly expensive. I had to return. I also bought coats from Eddie Bauer and from L.L. Bean. Nowhere nearly as warm as Marmot. The Marmot down parka that I recently bought is called the Montreaux Coat, and I've yet to find a warmer coat at such a great price point. It hits my knee, although it's supposed to hit my calf, so that's a bit misleading on their website. It's closer to parka length than coat length. I like that when the zipper broke after almost twenty years of owning my first Marmot down jacket, I called Marmot's Customer Service, they sent me a shipping label, and they said that they would gladly repair the zipper for me, for free. When they couldn't repair the zipper, they just sent me a new Marmot down jacket. So, I wore that complimentary replacement jacket for another ten years before finally buying the Montreaux coat this year almost thirty years after buying my first Marmot down jacket from Fontana Sports.

And then they sent it directly to the outlet mall. There are some items like that at the Columbia store. Odd colors, designs you can't picture being sold at full retail. For example, pairs of plaid shorts, in bright summery colors with matching tops, that came down to the knee in form-fitting fashion -- they were essentially hot pants. I have to ask, what were these doing at a sporting-goods store? I can't imagine them selling well to Columbia's target market. But, there are also plenty of items that fit more squarely within the Columbia brand. Such as, a white linen shirt with button-up sleeves, perfect for lightweight sun protection on the water or when camping; and a pair of nylon shorts for whitewater rafting (when they won't let you wear cotton on the river). There are plenty of "quirky" items -- normal Columbia items such as warm winter coats, in slightly odd colors that obviously didn't sell well. For instance, I got a really nice sun hat for $6 (I think the original price was like $40). Even better if it's your favorite color -- this one was purple! I did not check out the shoe selection but they do have them. All sorts of camping gear as well. Like most outlet stores, you may not find exactly what you're looking for at this one, but you will find plenty that you weren't looking for -- and sometimes that's the best part.
