As a girl I frequented the first dairy queen in Joliet IL in the late 40s which was before freezers were even dependable and in every kitchen lol. We could barely even dream of combining the two greatest desserts on the planet ice cream and cake into one delectable item. Every time she brings them I think to myself, Gosh what a treat, I bet that is expensive. Then I remind her in too many words about skimping a little bit on luxuries to save for the future, then she tells me to "relax, (because) its like 12 dollars" and then I remember when 12 dollars could pay for a semester in college so the math in my mind checks out. Yesterday my son called me to ask me to Zelle him some cash because he volunteered to pick up one of his wife's cakes she had ordered. They asked him for 30 something dollars and he had brought 15 thinking he would be fine. Well, now his marriage is on the rocks and its all thanks to the gosh darn ice cream cakes. He asked if he could stay over tonight while "things cool down" which I found amusing since we are going on and on about ice cream cakes. Gave you four stars because I really like ice cream cakes. Deducted one because I'm embroiled in the argument of the year now.

We met the owner's mom who said that the owner is 12 years old & they bought the shop in September 2025. They plan to have a ribbon cutting ceremony in June 2026. It was a great conversation & I was excited to learn about this black-owned business. She still has Hershey ice cream flavors & great deals. She allowed my teen to have a million samples until he finally made up his mind. Very patient and accommodating to him. They also have 2 ice cream food trucks for rent.
