My friend and I were a bit cold so we got some hot cocoa and were grateful for it. I believe the owner was the one who made us the drinks. She seemed very passionate about what she does. My friend adored the hot chocolate. The best part is she uses real milk (or plant based milk for dairy free folks like me). I wasn't able to finish my hot cocoa because it got too sweet for me at the end, but I still enjoyed it. The best part was the drinks came with a little chocolate bon bon.

My daughter and I decided to stop by Ice Cream Cakes & Crepes while in Petersburg. She mentioned…read morethat they were pretty popular due to their wine infused sorbet so I couldn't wait to try it. When we arrived, we noticed there was some street parking right in the front of the store but since the street looked a bit narrow, we decided to park in the parking area across the street. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and even though we arrived close to 9pm, there were a good amount of people still there. The spot was very cute and the ice cream decor on the walls, gave it a nice touch. We sampled one of the wine sorbets and it was pretty good. It had a hint of the wine taste but tasted mostly like sorbet. We also sampled a few other flavors before deciding on the Cookies n' Cream or the Jungle Fever, which was very good. Overall, I can definitely see why this spot is popular because it's definitely a vibe. They also offer crepes, sundaes, flights, milkshakes and cake. If you're in the area and looking for a sweet treat, definitely spot in!

I had previously decided to go with a different well known bakery in the Richmond, VA area but at the last minute they stopped communicating with me. I was in a panic trying to find another baker. Several people on Facebook recommended Confections of a Cake. When I contacted Ann, she replied back to me within minutes and we set up a time for a tasting that week. All the flavors were absolutely delicious. I was so excited and relieved to have found Ann! She was affordable and reliable. She delivered the cake and cupcakes on the day of the wedding and coordinated with the florist to make sure flowers were placed on the cake correctly. She even brought her own greenery to put on the cake! Since the wedding, I have already referred several people to Ann via facebook. 100% recommend Ann and Confections of a Cake!

I have seen some lovely pictures of this place on social media over the last few months, so I was…read moreexcited to try it. Unfortunately, I was a bit underwhelmed in person. Apparently the owner does a lot of custom work, which would be good because you know exactly what you are getting and when (and how much it will cost.) I stopped by Thursday right when they opened "for the week" since they are closed Monday through Wednesday. Several of the things we specifically came there for were out of stock or still baking. I know that she is trying to find the balance between baking enough for people to purchase, and eliminating waste, but it sort of made it look barren. The display case had one each of some of the stuff that was available, but I just didn't like how empty it made it feel. The shop also has a ton of other things displayed for you to buy, like essential oil bug spray, jewelry, woodcraft, etc, but then for a place called Honeybee BAKERY, the bakery seems like an afterthought when there is so much more other stuff than there are baked goods. The actual baked goods that we could try get sort of mixed reviews from me. I opted for a vanilla bean mini cake that ended up being $9, and a pumpkin cookie sandwich that was either $7 or $8. (There are no prices listed, so you have to ask.) The cake was cute, about the size of a really large cupcake (or two small cupcakes), and I definitely could have eaten the entire thing in one sitting, but I personally didn't care for the buttercream. I know it sounds like a totally *Karen* thing to say, but the buttercream is too buttery. Hear me out though, if you just eat something that is really butter-heavy and not a good ratio of powdered sugar and liquid, it actually just leaves this really greasy film in your mouth and on your lips in my opinion. The flavor was okay, but there was just way too much icing and therefore WAY too much butter so it was kind of unpleasant. The cookies were okay, but again, the buttercream in the center made it sort of unpleasant. Definitely eat them cold because the buttercream just slips and slides out if it is room temperature. I know for next time that I would just opt for the cookies. I would definitely suggest the bakery utilize social media way more to keep up to date on what is currently available, and list prices.
