I have known Basil's ever since I came into the area. Basil's is located on the west side of Fox Valley Mall, and is accessed by the Mall circle. My better half and I live two blocks away. We can walk to Basil's. We have made a few celebrations over the years at Basils, but last night was something special, and it changed my mind as to how often I will be patronizing Basil's.
My better half's son, John, was visiting the area attending a conference in Chicago. Virginia's (my better half) daughter, who lives in the west suburbs wanted all of us to get together for dinner, as is the family custom when John comes into town. John selected Basil's, so Virginia asked me (I am the restaurant guy) to make reservations for a party of eight (8) at 6:45 PM. At first the gentlemen on the phone was having trouble finding us a table. Then Angelo came on the line, and said he found us a table. I was surprised that it was so difficult finding a table at Basil's on a work week night.
When we arrived we discovered why it was so difficult to get a table. It was Anniversary Week at Basil's. Basil's was celebrating it's 9th anniversary, and giving 50% off from October 22nd through Oct 25th. Last night was October 25th. Running through my mind were long waits, as I know from experience what happens to a kitchen when it is tasked to it's limits. However, I was encouraged by seeing people leaving with doggie bags, and quite a lot of people.
We met John and Courtney as arrived. Virginia's daughter Katie, and her family with two girls in tow were on their way. Angelo (I didn't know it him at the time) escorted the four of us to a round table in the corner, absolutely perfect while we waited for Katie and company.
Our waitress was fantastic. I'm still amazed at this system where she takes our order, and someone else delivers our meals exactly as if they had a seating chart. Not one person out of order. Back to our waitress. We caught her executing flambes (flaming dishes) with quite a flare.
Everyone enjoyed their meals with good conversation. The food was absolutely wonderful, and I couldn't believe how fast the food arrived considering how busy was the restaurant. On our way out, I asked Angelo if he was Angelo. After saying yes, he asked who I was and I told him and introduced him to John who treated the entire family. There was something in Angelo's tone of voice that said he was genuinely concerned with the quality of service and the food.
I don't know how well Basil's does. I am in the Mall circle as least once a week, and I never remembered seeing so many cars in the parking lot. I like this restaurant and so I am commiting to dine with Virginia at Basil's at least once a month. I have seen so many good restaurants go down over the years, and it's time I did something no matter what the future holds. There...you have it in print.
Congratulations, Basil's for your wonderful food and service over the last nine years. Keep up the good work. read more
