Wanted something quick and simple, so we gave this place a try. I had high hopes when I walked as the decor seemed nice, but I left pretty disappointed with my experience. The worst part of my experience was ordering. I wanted a set menu item, but I wanted to change my base from rice to noodles. Upon request, the worker responded with "we don't really do that here..." and trailed off. If they told me I had to pay a substition fee, I would have gladly done so. If they told me that was not allowed, I would have been confused, but I would understand. Instead I was left feeling like it was weird for me even to ask and I felt awkward. The food was ok. They gave a good amount of meatballs which I was happy with. The basil chicken flavor was decent. But the satisfaction I got compared to what I paid left my wanting more. The food also took 20 minutes to be prepared which seemed like a bit too long. Overall, maybe if I wanted something to take out and eat at the park across the street, I would consider coming here. Was looking for a venue to host some food and games and ended up at basil box. The manager let us have several tables for a few hours to sit down to socialize over food and drinks and bring-your-own-games. Located right at the corner of yonge and finch, it's been around for years, but recently did some renovations to make it more group friendly, with booths that can seat a small group and smaller tables if you're on your own or with a friend to get some work done, have a meeting, or just enjoy a meal. Last month, a new bubbletea location opened up inside the store, which brings a huge variety of drinks that basil box doesn't offer on their own menu. Seems quite strategic. There are outlets at each seat and free Wi-Fi, so if you're looking for a place to sit and Starbucks across the street is full, you could check this place out. I guess it's time I gave this review an update! We had a team lunch at work a couple of weeks ago and since we haven't seen each other in a while, we decided to order lunch. A few had suggested Basil Box and since I'd only been there once, I was game for another go. I took my time to peruse their menu online and created a bowl that was excellent! It's also nice to have all of the nutritional information as well since I track of my caloric intake. We used a food deliver app and it was really easy to place our order. This place is great in terms of dietary accommodations - a lot of Dairy Free and Gluten Free options and decently sized positions which keep you full but aren't over indulgent. They offer different spice levels. We got the pad thai "medium" spicy which was a mistake. Didn't taste anything like a regular pad thai and more like a spicy noodle dish which was fine. Garlic Rice Silog was good and satisfying but not the best I've ever had. Update: thanks to Basil box for inviting me again. I tried Garlic Rice Silog this time: vegetarian and chicken version for same. Being a vegetarian, I tried this dish with Tofu as protein. It was a bed of rice, with sautéed tofu, a fried egg, pickled carrots and onions and you can then top it with sauces of your choice. We had sweet mayo and Thai sweet and sour sauces. Likewise was chicken version except that there was Chicken as protein in stead of Tofu. Tofu dish was amazing. The coating on tofu was so flavourful yet not very spicy. You can of course top it with additional chilly big you prefer spicy. I personally liked this dish a lot, however my partner didn't like his chicken version much as he complained of dryness again despite topping it with both additional sauces. We both would love to return for Tofu Rice Silog as our lazy day takeouts. read more

This has to be THE worst Basil Box that I have ever visited. I went a couple of months ago around dinner time & they were out of most vegetables, which was disappointing. I love Basil Box & visit the one downtown on Yonge Street often, and also love the one in Mississauga Square One Mall. I thought maybe it was just a bad night and thought that I would give them another chance tonight. Disappointed once again. They were out of rice noodles!!!! I have seen this place around and was always curious about their food. They offer set menu items or you can create your own bowl and everything is very customizable. We ordered a rice bowl and a chicken pad thai (I believe that is what they were called), and will say that the rice bowl was okay, but really enjoyed the pad thai!! The portions at the one near Finch Station were decent and I wasn't able to eat it all, so I guess size depends on how busy they are and who is making your food. Saw that this place opened up across Goodlife, so came here for lunch after a workout to try it out. I really like the open layout and big windows. Great for doing some work if you work well at coffee shop environments, and they have wifi! The menu is entirely build-your-own. It has something for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans. I got my bowl with half greens/half noodles and tofu. It was tasty, but not out-of-this-world. I would also have liked the serving to be a little bit larger for the price (almost $12). I feel like the servings at Freshii are larger for a lower price. I also ordered a Thai ice tea which was yum! It was a little sweet for my liking, but that's because I don't eat a lot of sugar. Very beautiful location. This is my third location I've been to and the food/service is definitely on par with the other locations. Friendly staff, clean and spacious restaurant, and awesome food! I'm not the biggest fan of tofu in general but that's all I eat when I come here because it's made that good. Great food would be mediocre if service lacked but kudos to management for hiring such friendly and welcoming staff at each location I've been to. It's my first time at a basil box so I wasn't sure the ordering process but the worker there was very friendly and walked me through it. The portion was a bit smaller than I would have liked. Wow it was so quick! If you don't plan on dining at Basil Box and considering take out, I highly suggest you download the app and order and pay for your box online. It was so easy and the meal was ready in less than 10 mins. I wasn't even out the door yet! You select a base, veggies, protein, sauce and toppers. Off the bat the service here is good even if busy the line moves i like how the staff is very patient with customers not knowing what they want or unsure of something. The seating here is adequate. Good air and lighting inside. Can be noisy and busy during all hours of the day. I ordered brown rice, sauteed peppers, charred sweet potatoes, lemongrass chicken, pickled veggies, cripsy shallots, roasted sesame seeds, fresh herbs, penang curry, crushed peanuts, sirracha spiced pumpkin seeds and fresh thai chillies. Confusing and strange flavours for Viet and Thai Fusion. not a fan of it at all...but I like the drinks and the store experience :) I built my box with (1) short-grained brown rice, (2) lemon-grass corn and charred sweet potato, (3) lemon-grass chicken, (4) sweet chili lime sauce with classic peanut sauce on the side. Everything tastes fine on its own, but the textures and the flavours just taste strange and borderline "wrong" all together. I really couldn't finish my box, and resorted to picking out the chicken and the corn separately. I've tried a majority of their drinks and I've settled on the Pineapple Rose Soda as my favourite! It's a sweet and light taste, giving off a dandelion and fairies mood.Their mojitos are refreshing and the summer sale makes them a super affordable pick-me-up in the blazing heat! I prefer the pomegranate flavour over the cactus pear (which I describe to have a mild soap aftertaste). The Thai iced tea and passion-fruit lychee soda are "ok" but slightly diluted and bland. I love coming here to study! The bench chairs are soft to sit on and the tables are big enough for my laptop and notebook; plus, they play nice and chill music! I was offered $1 off for drinks but didn't try any drinks. Staff seems very friendly and willing to explain how to order. There are street parking on Yonge, Basil box have their own parking at the back as well. Overall I give 4 out of 5 star. Ate here twice in one week. Noticed that the portions can be quite different depending on who serves you. If you come during a slower period the food tends to be all cold. Everything is pre-prepared, even the protein to get your order prepared super quick, which is great except sometimes you want something at least luke warm. Like when I order noodles, I didn't expect to have them cold. Thai ice tea was good though, didn't expect them to sell that here but it was the highlight. A great new addition to the Yonge/Finch neighbourhood. Refreshing change from all the Korean BBQ and sushi restaurants. The different sauces are delicious, and super fresh ingredients as you like it. Love the peanut sauce. A great bonus is that they let you do half and half of you can't choose between the proteins! Right at Yonge and Finch. Stumbled across this spot when out for a walk and looking to pass some time on a summer, Sunday afternoon. It's a build it yourself type of restaurant. 5 step selection. Carb, veggies, protein, sauce and toppings. Some unusual selections (roasted edamame, charred sweet potatoes) made for an interesting lunch. Went with the chili lime shrimp on jasmine rice. Mrs had the shrimp on chilled rice noodles. Fair sized bowls with plenty of other toppings. Two dishes and a couple of fruit juices came to $35 though. Not that impressed at that price. Yasss! So ecstatic finding out this location opened by my work. I finally got to check it out last week, and they had a promotion for buy one box, get the second free! Guess who had lunch taken care of for two days?! The lineup wasn't too long, however it did take a bit of time due to the promotion. There is so much natural sunlight coming in this place, and plenty of places to sit on your lunch break. They were sold out of brown rice, and decided to try the rice noodles. They do give a hefty portion for the base, and I don't want my sauce getting eaten up by it, so I ask for small amounts. I always get the peppers and sweet potatoes, plus lemongrass chicken. I mix the penang and peanut curry sauce, topped with Thai chillies, crispy shallots, herbs, and peanuts. I wish my app was working, as I had a promotion for a free drink. Regardless, the taste was as perfect as it is at their other locations, with great heat to punch. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients, and it is very filling! It does come with a price tag of almost 12 bucks a box, so unfortunately I can't have it all the time. I'm not sure if I can make modifications on the app with less noodles, or a mix of sauce, but do order ahead to avoid the line and get reward points. Probably the worst place I've gone to eat in a long time. And that's not just this Basil Box, it's every Basil Box. Food is terribly bland and not a lot of options to choose from. I would rather go to Freshii right across at the North American Center, for flavourful and delicious healthy meal that doesn't taste like cardboard every time you take a bite. Perhaps Basil Box should have a menu and items choice update and it will be better. More variety would be nice as all the menu sound very unappetizing to me.
