Let me start with this. This is the first competently gluten free Chinese restaurant I have been too! I was not disappointed! I don't give five stars out easily. I give it to restaurants that go over and above. In this case, it is a specialty restaurant that caters to people who live with and without celiac disease or wheat/gluten issues. Today, I started with the pork spring rolls. They were quite large. They were served piping hot and were delicious. The texture reminded me a lot of South American corn and tapioca style breads and breading. A large focus on tapioca starch which works very well in the spring rolls. I also ordered the back pepper beef, and the garlic black beans. I had no idea of the abundance and freshness of the food. Also served piping hot. I barely got through either of the dishes. At this point, I realized that one dish would likely be enough and I likely had enough food for a small family. Excellent value. I'm leaving with enough food for dinner as well. The place is clean, the staff is very knowledgeable, and everyone is very friendly. So, value, excellence of food and taste, ingenuity in creating foods that aren't usually available, while maintaining a close relationship to the original. Well done. Five stars. Came here by recommendation of a friend whose partner is celiac. I ordered the pork spring rolls and lemon sauce and red bean cake. Both were very tasty. There were also many frozen choices. We even found some that were no garlic and no onion for my extremely low fodmap daughter. If you order 2 weeks ahead, they can modify the order to avoid your specific allergies. Amazing! I was referred to this little gem by a co-worker who has a child who is celiac - my daughter who has a severe gluten/nut/peanut allergy has not been able to eat at a Chinese restaurant for the last 3 years - until now! This place is truly a hidden gem - the staff is so friendly, warm, attentive - answered all of our questions - this place is not only gluten and nut free but also msg free and dairy free as well. all the "good" reviews here were posted by the owner...what staff?? there is a guy behind the counter stirring a wok with week old oil...and of course, he doesn't speak english. if you are going for the "buffet"...it is not a true buffet where you can have what ever you like...the owner is waiting by the cash with a lid, and will charge you extra, when you didn't over stuff the container (the lid fits fine!)...he still charges you extra!!! and charges a fee for using the debit machine...you must fill half the container with their greasy rice and tasteless noodles. The Bean Sprout is a hidden gem in Scarborough and is a gluten free haven for anyone with food allergies or intolerances looking to indulge in delicious Chinese food! The staff are incredibly friendly, kind and knowledgeable and are very accommodating, I felt so safe eating here which is not something that happens often at restaurants. I took my brother (who is not gluten free) here for their all you can eat gluten free buffet they do 1-2 times a month and he was blown away by how good the food was! He couldn't even tell it was gluten free. A few things we had were fried rice and rice noodles, lemon chicken, garlic beans, spicy thai chicken and chicken balls (OMG they were incredible!!). They also have take out which is based on integrity and there are guidelines, the ingredients for the food they are making is more expensive and understandably there has to be some guidelines so people dont eat them out of house and home which I have seen many people do at buffets IE shoving the container full of meat and unable to close the lid. For people complaining about being charged more it is because they did this. The owner is trying to support his family so please be considerate when making these choices, I would cry ten thousand tears if The Bean Sprout were to go out of business!!! I also bought some frozen dumplings to take home for when the craving strikes! Amazing selection of gluten free treats from thoughtful, friendly family owners. Their son has food alleegies so they take them very seriously. The steamed chicken buns are killer! The food is high quality home cooking. We stocked our freezer and have yet to try sweet and sour chicken balls, breaded shrimp, lemon chicken and hot dog buns, just to name some of what they offer. The bbq pork bunk doesn't have the sweet sticky pork you might except but it's fresh and delicious. Can't wait to go back and stock up! read more

This is in the same plaza as the DriveTest centre. The interior is done up in green and white fast-food decor, but ultimately it's clean and bright if a little tacky. The owner (I think) is very attentive and is happy to see everyone who steps through the door, seats them, brings them water and menus, etc. Is this place new? He acts like it's new. He's a little pushy but he's a nice friendly guy. The food is plain, plentiful, tasty, and cheap. For $11 plus tax and tip, we got an order of wonton soup, two spring rolls, and a huuuuuge sharing-size plate of noodles with shredded veggies. They have a small buffet for $8.99 lunch and $9.99 dinner, plus you can fill a takeout box for $6.99. The only thing I would love more is if they had some tofu on the buffet. Since I passed my driving test I have to fabricate a new reason to go out there. read more

We went for their Gluten Free buffet, which they have on a Sunday once a month. Everything was awesome! They had lots of choice for my vegetarian daughter and the whole buffet is gluten free, so it was safe for my celiac wife. The price may seem a bit on the high side, but they were quality ingredients and seeing as how its the only Gluten Free Chinese buffet that I've ever seen, it was well worth it! read more

I've been here a couple of times. The food is pretty standard, but having said that it's not bad and I'd go back. However, there are so many rules about what you can/cannot take as part of the lunch take-out buffet. The staff guy watches like a hawk and will easily charge you extra if he feels that you've overfilled your container. It's a real deterrent and for that reason I doubt I'll be back. read more

I love the food there, they have a gluten free menu and take great care as the owner's son is celiac and very sensitive. They are expending their GF menu and the food is reasonably priced. When you go there, speak to the owner and let him know you are either Celiac or gluten intolerant and he will look after you. He is a very nice man. read more

I have been here a few times. The gentleman that runs the restaurant is very kind and patient. I witnessed a couple walk in pick up food. Piled their plates beyond capacity and refused to pay the price because they didn't read the signs. The owner thanked them and let them go without any fuss. I sat enjoying my food as usual and the owner started talking to the man who was sweeping outside. He offered the food to him at no cost. It isn't always about money.
