    Bought the Farm

First time coming here after seeing recommendations while visiting in Oregon. Ordered a bruschetta board, while it looks aesthetically pleasing. The flavors were kinda all over the place. Only one of the three actually tasted good. The fig jam bruschetta had wayyyy too much jam and sweetness. We were recommended their seasonal "Strawberry Fields" and it was disgusting. The cheese tasted a little sour. I know bruschetta boards are about trying new things and different flavors but it was very disappointing. As for the pizza, they are personal sized thin crust pizza. The pizzas were good and tasted fresh, but the crust is so thin that it falls apart picking it up. I got the "Brought the Farm" pizza and they threw a pile of arugula on top. I kind of expected it to be mixed or baked into the pizza. The mangonada slushie was really good but the wine slushie was awful. This place is definitely a social brunch & snacking type of place and not an actual lunch spot. It was very expensive to feed everyone individually. But the staff was really friendly and attentive overall.

Came here while visiting Salem and have been here before on the rooftop. We had the Rosso E Verde pizza, which included the smoked Marinara sauce. Sounds really good but as for taste I could not detect any smokiness -- the sauce tasted the same as our other pizza which had the regular marinara. Both our pizzas were pretty good and service was friendly. Would be a 4 star review but subtracting a star because they could not omit cheese from half a pizza. For the non-cheese eater you either have to pick off the cheese or order an extra pizza -- which is kind of pricy at $24 a pie including tip.

We stopped here for a quick lunch and it was quick indeed. The pizza arrived fresh and hot from the oven, had a thin crust just how I like it. I only wish it had a bit more of the mushrooms. I guess I should have asked for more, not sure if that would have worked? But over all I had a pleasant experience and the staff there was great as well. Btw, love what they have done with the plants all over the place.

I was recently in Salem for a work trip and had the pleasure of dining at Basil & Board one of the evenings. The location itself looks brand new. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy and they keep it very clean. The staff were very friendly and offered great menu recommendations. We started off with the bruschetta board. The "that's my jam" was my favorite. The prosciutto with Brie and fig jam was a great combo. For dinner we shared an Aglio pizza. An excellent recommendation from the staff. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're ever in Salem.

Great service and the food is very good! They also have a roof top that is nice in the summer!

Tonight we met friends here for dinner who live in Salem, we came from Newberg. I had made reservations for the outdoor patio a few weeks prior as it looked great. The outdoor patio was great. Service was good but not great. Food was also good but not to die for. Glad we went but was not something I have to drive an hour for again but if I lived closer by would go again, I liked my sandwich. Glad we went and checked it out though.

This restaurant has ample parking and the choice of sitting inside or on the rooftop. We went on a Saturday around 6 pm. We had reservations for the rooftop but noticed signs stating there were bees. We decided to sit there and take our chances. When we arrived to the rooftop, there were 4 staff conversing about something really important. We were sat and weren't greeted until we put our menus down. The server took both our drink and food orders after completing the first chapter of the very important conversation she was having with her colleagues. Our drinks were delivered in a relatively short time but our salads and pizza were delivered at the same time. If I knew this ahead of time, I would have ordered a salad first and then ordered the pizza once the salad arrived. In the meantime, the Yellowjackets kept us company while the staff continued on their very important conversation. The salad and pizza had a good flavor and was very fresh. Our bill stated all staff share tips. After reading this, I understood why our service was less than stellar. If I could give 2.5 stars, I would.

This place is quite spectacular! The chicken pesto was on point!! Look at the crisp on the bread and you tell me if that taste good or not. The sandy was a lil petite but still filling nonetheless. My hot date thought the pizza was one of the best she's ever had. Bold ah statement but still really good. I found the red bell peppers to seem a bit overpowering but maybe the pizza may have tasted bland without it? The crust and sauce was top 5. The server with the bun was quite nice. This spot was quite the vibe. We'll be back again!

    Such a beautiful indoor setup!

We were going to the Silverton Christmas Market on a Saturday night and wanted to stop off in Salem for some dinner. Our family is vegan, and we were meeting friends who eat anything. First, we found it strange that you could make a reservation for 1-6 people but not 7-9. We had 9 total with both families. So we made a reservation for 5 and one for 4, then called to ask if we could combine. That was no issue. But it was strange. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy and we got right to our table. The kids sat at one end and we sat at the other. Our server was great, especially how she was clandestine when she asked both us and our friends if the kids could have cookies with the kids pizzas. As vegans, we had plenty of choices. My daughter ordered a build your own pizza and we ordered vegan pizzas from the menu. My son always just wants a meaty and cheesy vegan pizza so we asked if we could get the kids pizza made vegan withvegan cheese and pepperoni. The server said it was no problem. We got our food and everyone but my son was eating well. But he wasn't complaining he just didn't eat any of the topping. When I was putting the pizza into foil, I noticed that the cheese and pepperoni looked different from my daughter's pizza since she got pepperoni on her build your own. Well, it wasn't vegan. That brought me from a 4 to a 3 star. We paid extra for the vegan options and he didn't eat them because he tasted it and said it tasted bad. We didn't see our server again before we left, so no one ever communicated the mistake to her. I asked my husband to do that before we left, while I went to put base layers on in the restroom. I assumed he did that, and asked about it in the car and he said the server never came back and he didn't ask. It's definitely our fault for not communicating the mistake and not realizing until we were leaving, but it was a big error for the kitchen. If we had a dairy allergy, which I do, it would have been a big issue. I felt sad, because my son didn't get a chance to say no to animal products, but happy that he didn't like it and didn't eat it. So this issue definitely gave me a 3 versus a 4 star experience. The pizza itself is good. I had the Vegan Isle of the Gods and my husband had the Vegan Bought the Farm. The flavor is great. You aren't overloaded with any particular topping, and everything was fresh. The crust was great. Brick oven fired for sure with a nice crispy crust. The only issue for me, is that because it's a thin crust, you'll have to fold it if you want the toppings to stay on. I personally would rather use a knife and fork. I would definitely be willing to go back and give it another try but I would 100% be double checking my kids order to ensure it was right. It's a cute spot and I would love to try the rooftop patio in the summer!

What a great experience! I was visiting from Colorado and wanted to try a local restaurant. Locales near downtown, Basil and Board delivered what I needed after a day of work. My group of 8 was a wasted promptly and the service was good. We got a few of the fancy toasts aka bruschetta boards and all delivered in flavor. My favorite was Dante's Sister; loved the cherry jam with the savory prosciutto, and spicy arugula. I am picky when it comes to pizza, but Basil & Board exceeded my expectations. I loved the San Marzano sauce and two day proofed crust was just the right thickness.

The food was phenomenal and so was the service! The rooftop was so cute and unique. 10/10 all around!

First time back since the pandemic began. Still the same great food and drinks. Love that they have Hibiscus is cider (La Familia) on tap. I tried their lunch special 1/2 Panini and a Bruschetta from their pick 2. I choose the grown-up grilled cheese and added bacon and the pears in France bruschetta. I subbed gluten free bread for both of these items and they were delish. Friendly staff! They kept checking on me while waiting for a friend. My friend got a pizza and loved it. Can't wait for warmer weather for roof top. Seats on main floor seem more geared towards groups than smaller parties, however, plenty of seating a lunch. Metal chairs were uncomfortable, but look cool. Big bums prefer square chairs

The bartender said that the co2 is weird with the first pours of the day. So a bit annoying. 3. We ordered mozzarella sticks and as an appetizer then the burgers. It took 35 mins for us to receive our burgers then the mozzarella sticks came out. The mozzarella sticks were cold inside. 4. The burgers were very basic bbq bacon ranch burgers. They cook personally came out and raved about how he came up with this recipe and was the best in the northwest. It was just bbq sauce mixed with some ranch. He also came out asking what we wanted on it and then proceeded to forget our tomato's.

Since then, and on a less busy day, The Vault has cleaned up beautifully. The barman was welcoming and quick on his feet. The sign out front read "BBQ is ready" and, sure enough, when I asked for the run-down, he talked me through the spread. In the end, a 1-meat 1-side plate won out. I requested the brisket (which was great, and generously portioned, though a bit dry to be the best in town) and the street corn (which was incredible, and definitely the best in town). It seems BBQ is becoming a competitive business in Salem! The Vault is keeping up with the best of them, but here's the real kicker: the plate came out to only $15. For meat of that caliber and quantity, not to mention the elotes, that's beyond a steal. If The Vault continues to offer this level of quality in service, food, and drink, any early-days missteps while finding their footing will be drowned out by the good times they roll out. I hope they can keep this momentum and continue to offer exceptional service complementary to great good and drink.
