Basic City is about a 7 minute drive from the blue ridge parkway so it's a great stop post Humpback, or between Cville and Staunton. The parking is easy enough and there's plenty of space indoors and outdoors to sit. The times we have been it has not been terribly crowded. When you go into the main tasting room, there's a section with pinball, pool, and ping pong. There were multiple families with kids and the kids seemed to be entertained. You can order food from the restaurant next door directly at the bar which is nice instead of walking over and placing a separate order. The mushroom pizza we got was great, hot, and fast and was a nice treat after a morning of hiking. We all got different IPAs and they were good, not necessarily memorable, but refreshing after a hike. My husband loves the ESB and we brought him a pack home. They have a separate cocktail area but we have not tried it. Staff is super friendly. Restrooms are clean. read more

This is how a brewery should be done! Four stars for the beers, five for the service and atmosphere. For beer, my husband had the Sillion and the Grinbille and enjoyed both. We didn't have time to eat, but the menu looked fantastic. I love when a brewery has a kitchen and you don't have to rely on food trucks. I don't drink beer, and I still had a great time. The place is packed with activities! Bring cash for the awesome selection of arcade games, or enjoy foosball, ping-pong, shuffleboard, pool, corn hole, or table sized tic-tac-toe. WHERE'S THE CHEESE? This place has a great pizza crust, believe me I'm from NY, but they drown a thin crust in sauce and do not put enough topping on to even make it tasty. Great beer goes good with great pizza, but this is not the place for great pizza. I ordered cheese and basil and had more bare spots of soggy crust that pizza. Atmosphere is fantastic any day of the week. Beer is phenomenal. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the music that they play is awful. The music is like a reboot of a combination of awful disco from the 70's that had a baby with awful synthesized music from the 80's. C'mon friends just throw on some classic rock and call it a day. Great spot in a historic metal factory with a cool surrounding outdoor area with hammocks. Lots of space indoors with tall ceilings so you can space out and outdoor picnic tables out front too. The beer is great. It's clean and family friendly. My kids ran around and played for over an hour without bothering us and that was awesome! I will say that while we were there some people brought their own corn hole bags on one of the corn hole tables. They left them and were on the other side of the room. My children went to play corn hole and this guy came over and said these are my personal bags. I was like okaaayy!? If you have your own stuff, don't leave them for kids to play with. This isn't a basic city problem, more so, if you bring your kids, make sure they play with basic city's bags and not someone else's because some people are too stupid to understand that if they leave toys and walk to another part of the place that if kids come along they will play with your stuff. Easily one of my favorites in the area, including the Charlottesville area. Absolutely incredible IPAs and just a solid selection of beers in general. So happy I found this place! My parents came down to visit halfway and I came up halfway and we met here. The beers are awesome and they have such a huge selection, you can take any of them home in growlers and some in cans. The food was absolutely delicious. We got a jar with Gorgonzola and it was absolutely amazing. They have a ton of daily specials and we got their brisket sandwich. They smoke their own meats, and it came with this delicious spicy and Smokey sauce. Don't worry about corona here because they have a whole covid policy and only allow so many people inside at once and have designated entrances and exits too. This was a really cool brewery! And apparently the place to take your young children on a Saturday night! I loved the setup. Kind of reminded me of O'Conner's in Norfolk. Nice bar up front plus a stage for music, arcade games and cornhole. And there were kids everywhere! I guess this is the hip spot for young parents in the Waynesboro area. I love their beer. Had a Grinville (vanilla bean stout), and it was SO delicious! Perfect complement to the tundra-like weather we were experiencing. I ordered the Tropikos in a growler to go and have enjoyed at home. Truly a Tale of Two Basic Cities, First the food: 5 Star food and staff. The Nachos with deep fried jalapenos and sour cream add-ons were to die for, maybe the best I've ever had. There are even little tiny bits of candied bacon. Yum. The burgers were very good, the fries, sweet potato fries and the homemade cottage fries/chips were excellent. Service was top notch and staff was super in every respect. Second The Brewery: 3 Star Beer and 1 Star staff. Can you say "We don't give a flying f__k" then you can work on the beer and kombucha side of Basic City. The beers ranged from eh to OK but nothing was outstanding. The kombucha was not particularly good and at $6.50 a glass should be skipped. The staff was not busy with customers, but they sure were busy FN around and were even goofing off while I was standing there waiting for my beers before AND after I ordered. One of the coolest breweries I've been to! This place is so nice inside with both views of the brew room and a HUGE arcade side. The beers were very tasty and they had a large variety to choose from. When you walk through to the arcade they have another sitting area that is super industrial and plenty big for large groups. They have a projector for football games which makes it so fun while also being away from the main area where no noise can be heard. Sadly we didn't get to try their food but still really enjoyed the visit and would love to go back when passing through Waynesboro again. read more

Well we made it out to Basic City today even though it was a little hot! I tried the  The BangBANG  sandwich but was very disappointed. Not sure if it is because it is 100 degrees outside and we are sitting on asphalt or that the beer stayed cold for about 2 minutes but the sandwich fell flat. Went here for a company Christmas party. We paid a lot of money to rent out a private space from 6-10pm. 9:45 comes around, maybe even earlier, and the servers and bartenders on the other side of the building turn the lights on and start blasting rock music to drown out our DJ, clearly trying to send a message it was time for us to leave. Our manager went to the bar to tell the employees that we were finishing up, and the loud music wasn't necessary and they looked at her like she was stupid and didn't say a word. They kept the music blasting, and also sent the bartender in to tell our DJ he had to stop playing and it was time for us to leave. BEFORE our time that we paid for was even up. We spent a huge amount of money to be treated like that. If you wanted us out before 10, than you shouldn't have rented the space before 10. If you didn't like hip hop music, you shouldn't have allowed a DJ in a private space. The ONLY redeeming factor was your two bartenders in the top building. read more

Best brewery overall in the Valley by a mile. This is a parent's haven, a great place to bring your kids and let them run wild while you enjoy one of their amazing beers. Loads of games including pool, racing games, pinball, corn hole, etc. They have a great variety to satisfy all beer lovers. Love the food here as well. Checked out this brewery over the holiday weekend and had a great time. They've got a ton of space to hang out and lots of games to play if you want - corn hole, skeeball, etc. Ideal place for family fun too as they welcome kiddos and dogs to boot! The beer selection was extensive (try the bask IPA), but they didn't have any sours available that night which was a little disappointing. I love how they have changed this space into what looked like a past machinist shop with the old pieces infused into the brewery such as old lathes and wire spools as tables into this cool family atmosphere where you grab a cold beer, eat some delicious food, listen to some live music and your kids can lounge in the hammocks outside or play the various video games. The building has some unique murals and artwork is sold inside. We ordered the blackened mahi tacos with side of buffalo fried cauliflower and an order of BBQ nachos. The nachos came first and they had a good heaping of pork and bacon pieces covered in a sweet BBQ sauce on top of nacho chips, beer cheese (yum), topped with green onions. Oh my! and the tacos were made with blackened mahi, slaw, black and white sesame seeds, green onions with two different sauces. My husband thought the fish was a little dry, but I thought the toppings well made up for it. They were a little spicy, but not overbearing. And, the cauliflower...holy cow! These were little nuggets of heaven. Who came up with this ingenious idea? Fried cauliflower lightly tossed in buffalo sauce topped with huge chunks of bleu cheese?!! They were amazing! And, it wouldn't be a brewery review without a review of the beer. I had two - Saison D'liason and Bask Dipa - and both were delicious! My husband likes hoppy beer. He ordered the Beer'd Puller Coffee which had a chocolate taste and I ordered him a Lieu De Wit which he liked also. This brewery is in a small town in VA so did get a couple looks when we walked in from some of the locals, but I think that's normal when visiting a small town. The beer was great but the food and service were not. The lack of servers wasn't a problem in and of itself but the dirty/uncleaned tables were a problem. The bartender acted like I was inconveniencing him by asking questions and he really couldn't describe the beer. The lady at the food counter was unhelpful but polite.
