We did a complete gut of our 100+ year old basement (the prior owners had put up some framing which was not done well, with amateur electrical work, so it was a very "messy" basement to tackle). From start to finish, the experience was very professional, with the various trades being top notch. Everyone was responsive to feedback at each step of the process. Our basement is the nicest part of the home now! Who knew doing laundry would feel luxurious in our new laundry room. And the bathroom we added has great tile work and impressive. This company webpage and description is completely misleading. Especially for having "basement" in their company name. We filled out their form to see if we can get a quote on helping to finish our basement. The form was straightforward and we had received a quick response back. They had responded noting that they were a Denver based company, focused on full service design and build company, and that their business model is to focus on large remodel older homes in Denver. If that was the case, then they need to make it clear what they actually support and what work they are truly willing to pick up. Their website notes that they are a Denver based company, but toutes that they service projects from Longmont to Castle Rock. Clearly misleading. Their site summarize that they work on basements. No caveats, fine prints, or clear distinctions on what they are only "willing" to work on. Searching for a dependable company to work on a person's home is already tough to began with and stressful! Having a company as such just irritates like crazy, wasted time realized, and increases stress on who else are we wasting our time reaching out to. But...they were nice enough to have us checkout nextdoor instead.... read more

While I wish I had a basement for this company to redo - I can attest to the quality of character of their staff. Unfortunately, I was involved in one of the many hit-n-runs in the Denver area today, and their technician saw the whole thing. Hiring Basements and Beyond turned out to be worse than I could have imagined. I would not be writing this review if the issues and responses encountered were not so shocking. This is my account of my opinion about the experience. Here are some key problems that we encountered: 1. There were constant errors and damage that took place throughout the project (see below). 2. A projected 55-day project took nearly a year to complete, with a brief pause due to COVID. B&B touted project management software as a differentiator, but the content was mostly inaccurate and outdated. 3. There was rarely a person from B&B on site when subcontractors arrived to do work, and the subs rarely knew what needed to be done, resulting in wrong work completed, items damaged, and insufficient oversight. They gave our door code to innumerable subcontractors and access to our home felt like a non-stop free-for-all. 4. In my opinion, the results look amateur in places, despite B&B's continued insistence at me that we had a beautiful result. 5. I have learned that the project was likely quite expensive. I was lured by the positive reviews and sadly did not get multiple bids. 6. We started with a much larger scope and had to significantly reduce the scope because they were not able to manage the small items. 7. B&B was unable or unwilling to provide us an updated and final allowance schedule for our plumbing work. They changed the numbers in the software over time, and could not account for the changes or discrepancies. They would only send us the bills from the plumbing providers, which I reviewed in detail to understand what had been installed so that I could retain the receipts for warranty purposes and also to determine the final amount due for this category. I felt that the owner ridiculed me for wanting to understand the items purchased and the numbers (he said I got an A+ for working on it). This felt wrong. 9. We continue to find issues. We recently found that our stove hood was scratched when they replaced it. The seam between the kitchen counter and the kitchen backsplash is already cracked. The new kitchen sink that was installed initially at the wrong angle still does not drain correctly. Here are a few items from the list of errors made or items damaged: Wrong toilets ordered and installed, counter top installed incorrectly requiring re-do of island, damaged sink resulting in having to order new one, damaged faucet resulting in having to order new one, damaged fireplace, disposal of paint materials in garden, disposed of things in our trash cans that made a mess, used our ladder and got paint all over it, wrong paint colors applied, lost existing door hardware, bathroom tile layout not installed according to plan, damaged window frame, damaged wall of adjacent room during demo, un-level light fixture, towel bar and sink installs, gas leak after replacement of stove, incorrect shower glass X2, and the list goes on. We had to identify nearly all of these issues ourselves, propose solutions, and project manage resolution. In addition to the errors and damage, there were too many examples of responses that felt wrong to me. Here is one. When they tried to close the project , I decided to first double check the work in the crawl space. I found trash and construction debris all over that was not there prior. I also noticed plugs hanging in midair that were not plugged in. I called the inspector, who came and said that he saw multiple deficiencies. He said that the plugs were the heat tape for the pipes, and they were not plugged in thus there was no working freeze protection working on the pipes. He said he asked them to come back to fix the problems. The silver lining in this terrible experience is that we are now back in the hands of very skilled professionals to work with us on the multiple larger projects for which we originally planned to engage B&B. This includes starting with new build plans that are less clumsy. UPDATE: In response to Wes's reply, we have never previously remodeled our house, not once. I had a great experience remodeling my house with Basements & Beyond. My house (built in 1947) was a very small (825 sq ft) 2-bedroom, 1 bath with attached garage. Since I live alone and wanted more room, I decided to change it to a one bedroom and make the bathroom and closet larger. I also wanted to convert the attached garage to indoor, living space. I knew I wanted a nice bathtub to soak in and a gas fireplace, but other than that, I didn't have clear ideas. I had never done a remodel before and didn't know much about it, so a design-build company seemed like a great idea to me, even though I knew it would be more expensive. Also, since I was working remotely due to the pandemic, I had relocated to Maine for several months. When I went with Basements & Beyond it was a leap of faith since they would be remodeling my house while I was 2,000 miles away. The experience was great. After visiting my house and looking everything over and asking questions about what I do, how I entertain, etc., I hired them to do the designs. They added things that were great--built in bookshelves on both sides of the fireplace, moving the washer/dryer to my walk-in closet, adding a wall of cupboards in the pantry. These were all things that were needed and that I love, but I wouldn't have thought of. Throughout the process, I worked with a designer (Kelly) to pick out everything--flooring, tiles, bathroom fixtures, lighting, etc. Since picking out stuff like that is not something I had experience with (or really looked forward to), I loved working with someone on this. I really didn't have strong opinions going into this about what I wanted, so I asked her to pick out a few choices and let me select from that. I am sure a lot of people would want to be more involved looking over hundreds of options, but that wouldn't have been good for me. I trusted Kelly, liked the options presented and was (and still am) happy with all of my choices. Since I was in Maine, Kelly shipped me samples and photos and got on Zoom with me to do the selections. The one thing I had some ideas for was the bathroom tiles--I wanted something a bit fun and bright. Kelly gave me three great choices, and I ended up with a great teal chevron tile on the shower walls. Kelly also suggested painting the front door of the house in the same teal, which I never would have thought of, but love and get a lot of complements on. The front door we picked out is also more jazzy than I would have ever thought to pick. I tell people that I basically put a brand new house inside my old house--moved some walls, new flooring throughout, brand new bathroom. The project grew on me quite a bit--I originally thought I would leave some parts as is. We ended up changing everything except some large appliances and the kitchen cabinets. The crawl space was even lined and insulated which I had not planned on. Although it was more expensive than I originally wanted it to be, I am happy that we did all of the extras. At one point I expressed surprise that they were suggesting we paint every room and change every fixture, light, etc. Bob said that I would not like the outcome if most of my house was bright and new, and some things were still the old parts. He was right. I have a brand new house inside my old walls (and the house grew a bit to 925 sq ft), and I love it. When I started thinking about the remodel, I told friends I had no idea how to go about it and that I wished I just had someone to do it for me. That's what I ended up with with Basements & Beyond. It was definitely an expensive way to do this project, and I doubt many people would spend what I spent on a tiny old house, but I am very happy with the outcome. I hope to live here for a long time to come, and Basements & Beyond helped me make it perfect for me. I wasn't here in person for anything from the first day of demo until I moved back in almost 3 months later, but Bob and Thomas sent lots of pictures and called whenever I needed to make a decision or approve a change. On that note, there were actually very few change orders, and I moved back in 10 days before they originally estimated. When I returned, several of my neighbors said that I hired great people and that the project moved along quickly. read more

Customer service is non-existent and once you sign that contract you won't speak to anyone who actually works for this company until they are asking for payment. We had a truly horrible experience on our basement remodel. Our AC didn't work for 6 weeks, we discovered today our heat doesn't work, no communication from the PM (now fired), no acknowledgement of mistakes or frustrations by Wes, Chuck or anyone else AND our project went three months over estimate and it still hasn't been completed. No professionalism and no leadership at B&B - not a good mix when you're making such a significant financial investment in your home. read more

Basements and Beyond did a complete gut and remodel of my 1950s basement in 2016. I found them to be highly professional and their work to be of the highest quality. My basement serves as an Airbnb apartment and my guests routinely remark about how nice the space is especially the workmanship. They have been very responsive on the couple of small warranty items I have had which is very important to me as an Airbnb host with guests using the space. Kenn Seaman and Rachel Bunke were particularity professional and helpful in gathering my input and creating a design. Chuck Pitman, who manages construction, is very knowledgeable and made sure things were done correctly. Chuck still answers his phone when I call and is very responsive when I have a question or a warranty item. The bid I received from them was the highest of three by a about 5% but I have seen the value returned in the fixed-bid and the lifetime warranty they provide HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

We had Basements and Beyond remodel the basement in our 38 year old home that had many drawbacks due to it's original design. We knew the functions we wanted the space to fulfill but had no idea how to fit them in. The design team did an amazing job at planning the space to bring these wishes to life. They also helped us choose the right size furniture pieces to fit into the spaces they created. Having heard lots of horror stories about contractors which various friends and colleagues had used, I was initially anxious about delays, messes, cost overruns etc.. I never had such problems with this very professional and experienced organization. They have a very efficient system starting from design, then transitioning into construction. They were constantly in communication with me, and always available by phone or email about concerns I had. Their prices are also very reasonable. I wanted to up- date my 70 -year old home by open up the living-room and the kitchen in addition to updating our very small bathroom. Basement and Beyond spent a lot of time helping me come up with different plans that worked for my budget and yet still met my wants to open up my bungalow. The designer was creative and the workers were professional throughout the whole project. I was dreading having people in my house with young kids however, they always respected my family time and were transparent about the different stages of the remodel. I now enjoy having people over since I have more space to entertain as well as my children can play in the living-room while I can keep an eye on them while I cook dinner.
