The service was good and pretty fast. - Indonesian fried chicken: good. The chicken meat was tender and we could taste the spices of marinade in the meat. I wish that they cooked the meat a bit longer so it had crispy skin. - Chicken satay: good. The meat was tender and flavorful. The peanut sauce was good but I wish that it had chunks of peanut. - Lontong sayur: very good. The soup was creamy and flavorful. - Es cendol: good and perfect for a hot day! The cendol was chewy and plenty. The coconut milk was perfectly sweetened.

I was skeptical when the server took my order without writing it down. I paid and said I'd come back to pick it up since it was going to take 15-30 min. When my husband and I came back after 30 min, the server told us she FORGOT one of the four items we ordered so she didn't make it yet. Very unprofessional. Let's talk about the food. I'm indonesian who grew up here in the US and even I know this is not good Indonesian food. The beef dish that they call rendang is NOT rendang. It doesn't even have the taste of rendang. We also ordered ayam sambal sereh which came with two sad overcooked chicken breasts. The topping had lemongrass in it, which made it somewhat interesting but it was not pleasant to eat the overcooked chicken. What's ironic is that this was the order that they forgot and had to make last minute. I would not recommend this place to anyone interested in trying Indonesian food. This is not Indonesian food.

The Service here was friendly, but I actually used their touch screen to order my food, so my interaction with them was minimal. I ordered the Char Kway Teow, which is a noodle dish that is Similar to a Thai pad see ew. It has the wide flat rice noodles in a sweet, garlicky sauce, some lime and a yummy paste on the side that reminded me of gochuchang sauce but maybe more fishy. This dish is so delicious and it's such a good portion. You get two large shrimp on top along with some pieces of fish cakes mixed with the noodles and green onion. I will definitely come back again to try more of their dishes.

Food options are limited but you should be able to find what you like. For lunch we ordered: CHICKEN CUTLET: Crispy chicken on top of deliciously seasoned rice. Loved the steamed veggies. The sauces are interesting and flavorful, complementing the chicken. ROASTED HAINANESE CHICKEN: Another delicious plate. AYAM NASI LEMAK: Fried chicken over coconut rice. Loved the sambal sauce. Interesting side of crispy anchovies and peanuts. Definitely will return if I'm in the area.

Curry Leaves Bistro: 2025 December (5 of 5)…read more The holidays mean attending parties or hosting one. I was recently invited to a neighbourhood holiday party where each neighbour brings a dish - like a potluck. I decided to bring Curry Puffs. The curry puffs were a hit - they were gone in seconds, a testimonial to the deliciousness of these treats made by Curry Leaves Bistro. The host even placed the curry puffs the star and centre of the photo he sent to the neighbours. Source: Malaysian curry puffs are widely available at street food stalls, bakeries, and markets and are enjoyed as a breakfast item, an afternoon tea snack, or a late-night treat. Locally known as karipap, it is a popular, savory, half-moon-shaped pastry snack with a flaky, crispy crust and a thick, spiced filling. They are deep-fried until golden brown, resulting in a crispy exterior. When eaten hot, the curry puff provides a satisfying contrast between the golden, flaky, and crispy exterior and the soft, warm, savory, and mildly spicy interior.

Every time we went there, we met old and new friends, it was like the perfect gathering place. So for one last time, we had our favorites char koay teow, roti canai, curry laksa, and generous helping of their final day buffet with my favorite vegetable dish of cabbage, an excellent fish curry, sambal petai and other special dishes from the buffet. It was bittersweet -- the wonderful homey lunch experience, but knowing it would be the last at this location. So now we wait for the reopening at another spot, hopefully nearby. And live on with the memories of amazing dining experiences here. A big and hearty thank you to Chef Jai, Vicky, and their entire staff especially Rasul. We'll see you again in a few months!

Orders from last visit:…read more Salt & pepper crispy chili fish ($20.95): the flavor was good, but not spicy Big Three Belachan ($18.95): solid / good, the Belachan dishes in general are solid Lala clam ($18.90): the clams were decent, but the flavor is not what we've had in Malaysia Singapore chili tofu ($18.95): it's a sweet and sour sauce, and the tofu we initially didn't like but the more we ate it the more we liked. We still prefer the tofu from Chili Spot in St. Louis. Dry curry beef ($22.95): The sauce was a bit one dimensional and could have used other spices-- but the beef was so tender, chewy and good and almost made up for the sauce Char koay teow ($17.95): Good! And has wok hei. Only 3 shrimps but they're good and mostly squid. Almost getting there with the ones we've had in Penang but of course the price here is multiple times fold (known to have the best best char koay teow in Malaysia) Next time: other beef dishes since they're beef is good, pumpkin dish (under vegetables), explore the lamb dishes

Curious, as I've always bemoaned the general lack of Southeast Asian options around, but, for whatever reason, I would always pass by without a second thought. However, after finding out from one of my old coworkers that this was where she'd go to whenever she had cravings for her childhood favorites, I knew I had to check this place out...and come back to try even more! Ironically enough, while Ipoh's location makes them super convenient to get to (there's lots of street parking around and SamTrans, BART, and Caltrain are all a short walk away), their nondescript appearance can make them easy to miss if you aren't looking. However, inside, this place is great! The vibe is super cozy and they have tables for groups large or small. As for the menu, it's extensive and chock full of options, from staples like Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, Mee Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Char Koay Teow, and Roti Canai. With nearly 70 other appetizers, soups, noodle soups, vegetarian, poultry, seafood, beef, lamb, stir-fried noodle, rice plates, and desserts to choose from, though, that's far from all they have to offer! -- (#A01) ROTI CANAI - Malaysian Crispy Pancake with Curry Sauce I've had this a few times now (and still no photo) and it's been really tasty every time. The roti is flakey with a lot of layers to it and I LOVE the curry dipping sauce that comes with it. Definitely worth getting! -- (#NR01) CHAR KOAY TEOW - Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodles with Shrimp, Squid, Bean Sprouts, Chives, Eggs, and Soy Sauce I've had this twice and I'm a bit torn. The first time, it was terrific - the noodles were cooked well, they didn't skimp on the seafood, and the dish was straight up delicious. However, the second time, the noodles were overcooked and the dish felt light on seafood. -- (#NR07) NASI LEMAK - Coconut Rice with Peanuts, Chicken Wings, Hard Boiled Egg, Chicken Curry Acar, Onion, and Chili Paste Ehh...this was just okay. The chicken curry was rich, the chicken wing was crispy and moist, and the rice had a strong coconut flavor. Sadly, though, the rice felt a little grainy/undercooked, the acar was really tart, and I wish the chicken had more curry. -- (#N02) LAKSA MEE - Spicy Red Coconut Curry Soup with Yellow Noodles, Shredded Chicken, and Mixed Vegetables Not the best laksa I've had, but it was one of the better ones and easily one of the heftiest. Not only was there a generous amount of chicken, but there was a ton of veggies in this, too. That said, it did make this feel like it didn't have enough noodles in it. -- (#D1) MALAYSIAN ICED TEA Not quite what I expected, but not bad either. I thought this was going to be more like a regular iced tea, rather than a milk tea, but at least it wasn't overly sweet nor overly milky. -- (#P01) HAINANESE CHICKEN with Chili Ginger Sauce A bit different from Chinese Hainan Chicken, but I liked this a lot. The chicken felt meatier, was far more tender, and it didn't have a bunch of bones. I also liked that they drizzled on some soy, but it did make it a little on the salty side. -- (#V03) STRING BEANS BELACHAN - Sauteed Green Beans with Garlic, Onions, and Malaysian Shrimp Paste Sauce To be honest, this was pretty unremarkable. On the plus side, the sauce on this was good and the string beans weren't overcooked. On the other hand, the string beans could've been blistered more and could've used more of the sauce. -- (#BL03) BEEF IN GREEN CURRY with Potatoes, Eggplant, Okra, and Green Beans Other than the choice of meat (I would've preferred chicken), this was great! While I wish the curry had been richer/creamier, it tasted spot on, there was a fair amount of beef, and it was loaded with veggies. Beyond the food, service here is pretty good as well. The workers are all really nice and happy to offer suggestions/help with the menu, the kitchen gets dishes out relatively fast, and I love that they don't really try to rush people to leave even at the end of the night. Since there just don't seem to be many Malaysian restaurants in the Bay Area, it'd be easy to say that Ipoh ranks among the best. However, the things I've tried have legitimately been pretty good. Nothing in particular may have amazed, but it's more than solid and I'd absolutely come back for their Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, and the first version of the Char Koay Teow I had!
