Received an invoice with a past due service chare for an invoice that Bartlett never sent me, yet got a prior invoice and it did not have the "past due invoice" on it? Like the service, but their billing leaves a lot to be desired. Not sure that I will use their services again after this contract is done! read more

Over the years my dogwood tree would have less blooms in the spring until it looked sad. Josh came out and took a look, explained what was going on and provided recommendations for it and the surrounding trees and bushes. After a years worth of treatments my dogwood has returned to life. Josh and the rest of the company provide a friendly and reliable service. Well worth the cost. read more

Was quoted $750 to remove a rope swing on a dead branch and very light trim on three trees. Got it done for $125 by going elsewhere. But worse the rep they sent out to give the quote was insultingly rude. Our house is for sale and he told me I should ask the realtor before removing the swing. REALLY Dude? I don't need a realtor to explain anything to me. A dead limb with a swing is a liabilty and I decide what tree work gets done. read more

Had this company out last Fall to take a limb off a large tree and prune a few others. The initial interaction was pleasant, the arborist seemed to know what he was talking about, and the prices seemed fair enough for the services of a skilled professional. Unfortunately, everything from there on left much to be desired. After receiving the initial quote it took two attempts to receive a response back to email attempting to schedule the work. A little frustrating since I thought they would be in the business of scheduling work which they had quoted on. The team came out and cut the limb and in so doing broke another smaller tree, cracked the stone on the pathway and crushed a couple azaleas. The other pruning didn't go well either. One particular was left looking completely butchered and cut the opposite of as instructed. But rather than seek out another company this Spring I thought I would reach out to them for some additional, though less sensitive, tree work. Maybe my first experience was a one off. But again, no response to email, even after receiving their company advert emails. Super frustrating. I don't mind paying for good service. I do mind paying for good service and getting this. read more

We have used Bartlett Tree Experts of Frederick County, MD, for many years and they are great. They treat our ash trees against the emerald ash borer, and the ashes are still in good health. They treat other trees and shrubs too (hollies, boxwood . . .) and their pruning skills are top notch. The initial assessment is thorough and knowledgeable, and the guys who come out to do the work are wonderful to deal with. On their last visit, our kids had lots of questions, and they were very patient in their explanations. read more

The best ever! Riley, their arborist came out and gave me a very fair estimate. I had invasive Wisteria overcoming my entire back yard. Two weeks later it was all gone and cleaned up. They did an amazing and very thorough job. read more

I requested that Bartlett remove us from their mailing list. We ordered service in April and it was only perormed in July at a inflated price. I tried to call the office 3 times with out getting the courtesy of a reply. We have previously enjoyed Bartlett but the present service is unacceptable read more

I had Bartlett at my house today pruning very large trees in my front yard. I have never hired a tree expert company before. I met their representative Josh when he was at a neighbors house. He very kindly emailed me a quote for the tree pruning I needed. Overall I think I was a small job, but they worked me in. I was pleased with the work and the courteous guys that did the work. This is a reputable company and I would recommend them. read more

While the people who did the tree work were great - dealing with the company has been a nightmare. It took over a month to get them to remove the tree from my house after a storm. I understand that they were busy, but they did a poor job with communication and when they were finally going to come out - their truck broke. They also only did some of the work the first day and failed to communicate the plan for coming back (which took another week). Billing has been horrible. It was like pulling teeth to got the invoice so I could submit to my insurance company. When it finally came it had charges for work that wasn't done - I had to remove a tree from my vehicle myself because I couldn't wait any longer, but they charged me for that anyway. When I eventually received the corrected invoice, I paid in full immediately over the phone with a credit card, but a month later they sent me a statement with a past due amount for the cost of the tree I had to remove myself before they ever came out. I called to fix the situation but had to leave a message because it's been almost impossible to get a live person and asked them to correct the invoice and stop billing me for work they didn't do. They never called to confirm they received my message, but a month later sent another statement claiming a past due amount plus service charges - all for work they didn't do. I still can't get a live person who can help, so left another message. I'm sick of this company wasting my time, but thought that by taking the time and posting this review, it might help someone else from having their time wasted by the less-than-stellar back office operations of this company. It's a shame, since the tree people who actually did the hard work were great. If you want great tree removal work and don't mind waiting forever and having terrible communication from the company and a billing fiasco - feel free to use them. I don't know that it's worth the premium cost for their tree service when you have to deal with the rest. read more

My neighbor, who had a large number of large trees he wanted removed from his lot, researched tree experts and hired Bartlett and, in the interest of efficiency, we hired them to remove some trees as well. We had them remove 3 large trees with the stumps as well as one additional stump. We had the removals done in two installments. They arrived promptly when promised and did an excellent job both times. They left the area with minimal signs they had been there. I would highly recommend them. Underwhelming customer service. I hired them in 2011 and paid them a couple thousand bucks to do work. They did a fine job them, but I tried to get a quote for smaller work and they flat out ignore me. The work is probably just under $1000, but I find it really poor customer service that I've called them, spoken to the receptionist twice and left 2 voicemails and 3 emails with no response - over a month. When I brought this to the receptionist's attention, she quickly told me all I could do was leave another voicemail and transferred me without another word. I think it's poor customer service to treat repeat customers this way. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Amazing service at a great price!!! I have dealt with many businesses when doing work on our house in Gaithersburg and called a couple of tree removal companies before deciding for Bartlett Tree Experts but I have to say, they are THE BEST of the best! Very impressed with their customer service, with the way they answer any questions or concerns you may have about a tree removal and also their prices are awesome. Much better than the other companies we called! We decided on Bartlett because another company in the area was constantly late returning our calls and in general treated us poorly when we called with questions. Also their prices were much higher. The tree in our back yard had to go so I called Bartlett late one evening and left a voice message. By 9am the next day their receptionist called back and we had an appointment for an estimate. She was great! On the day of the appointment a very nice and professional young man, Josh, called me to discuss the tree we wanted removed, any concerns we had about the removal and to suggest an estimate. We decided for a date when they were available and they did a wonderful job removing the tree and cleaning up the area. No hassle, no stress and they always did what they said they would. We had a big tree trimming/thinning job done today at our home, and were very pleased. We were looking for a certified arborist to assess a couple of problems, and Bartlett's came to our attention. Our arborist, Chris Larkin, made a very thorough inspection, found a number of insect problems we didn't even know we had, and made a number of suggestions for trimming and thinning of branches to allow more air and light, and hopefully more growth in the Spring! The estimate was broken out tree by tree to allow us to pick and choose what we wanted to do, I thought a nice way of not forcing us into a high-pressure sales pitch for a big contract (we ended up completing the whole list anyway!). The crew completed the work as specified, removed all the debris, and cleaned up all the work areas. We would recommend. read more

Outstanding company. I was worried about two trees in my front yard and wanted some professional input. Emailed an inquiry on a holiday weekend, got a response the first business day morning. Set up an appointment over the phone but received an email confirmation which was so helpful. The arborist showed up exactly at the appointed time and did a thorough assessment of my trees. I feel confident that they can guide me through all the next steps (contacting Pepco if necessary, etc.) and are beyond experts in their field. I have been a Bartlett customer for several years. I stay with them because of their excellent service and their top notch expertise. I have received services ranging from pest/disease control, to large old-growth tree pruning, to recently having a large tree removed and its stump ground. Each service has been expertly done with a friendly responsive crew who leaves my premises clean with the job fully done. I want to make special mention of my arborist representative, Ryan Grubb. He made a point of forming a personal relationship from day one. He holds himself completely responsible as my contact person. He is immediately responsive to my concerns and treats every question with respect. He is honest, and when he does not know an answer, he takes a picture and seeks outside help. I recently had a large tree hit by lightning. He was out the next day to assess the damage and he offered me a detailed assessment with multiple options and pros and cons of each option. I opted to have the tree removed and was concerned about damage to surrounding foliage. Ryan instructed the crew about my concerns and when the job was done there was zero visible damage, which is remarkable as the tree rose from the middle of a dense growth of bushes. I receive exceptional value for what I pay, and I consider the peace of mind, the reliable responsiveness, and the long view of tree care that Bartlett offers worth the cost. UPDATE 10/15/16: To clarify, the wood was initially left on the property in accordance with the contract, but witnesses told me it was removed the next morning by people in a Bartlett truck. Bartlett did return all of the stolen property after I informed them that there were witnesses to the theft. A manager claimed that some unidentified bystander had directed the crew to deviate from the terms of the written contract; whoever this mysterious person was, they were not Bartlett's customer or anyone authorized to represent the customer, yet the crew -- without consulting the customer -- followed this unidentified person's instructions instead of the written contract. Sounds implausible, but even if it's true, I'm not sure how it's supposed to be reassuring. I do acknowledge that it's possible that this was a case of negligence and not premeditated theft. I still wouldn't trust this company again. ORIGINAL COMMENT 10/14/16: These timber poachers cut down our mature oak tree a day ahead of schedule, with no one home, and violated their written agreement to leave us the wood. They literally stole our tree. read more
