Biere de Mechante 8.3%ABV ($10/14oz)
John D.

Smear the Beer Gastropub and highly-awarded seven barrel brewery located in Union Square that's been in operation since 2014. We needed to kill time between a play and dinner reservations, so we decided to pop in to try a few of their oat sodas. The Good: *Great selection of beers; everything from German lagers to IPAs and even darker beers, like Porters, which are becoming somewhat rare at microbreweries. *Food menu is definitely on-point for a gastropub. Didn't partake, as we had reservations elsewhere, but I'd definitely come back to try. The Meh: *Service was friendly, but a bit clumsy. I'm not sure what happened, we were told to order thru the QR code, which I did, only for the server to come and try and take our order. I informed her I ordered via the QR and somehow she ends up canceling it and then it turned into a whole kerfuffle. All that for two beers and a soda. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *I like the ethos of this place and the idea behind it should be amazing but eh... Something about it was sorta strange and gave me weird shitty dive bar feel, as opposed to a hipster gastropub that I was anticipating. Maybe it's the weird purple lighting? I dunno. *As with all things SF, parking will always be an issue. There's paid street parking (if you can find any) and parking garages around the area. The Ugly: *Someone in the back was clearly medicating their, ahem, glaucoma. Not to sound like a square, because I'm really not. Cuz your boy gets down with the green, if you smell what I'm smoking, but maybe not at work. And definitely not where the customers will get a contact high. Conclusion: Great beers, but the rest I'm not so sure about.

Came in before heading to a concert nearby. The ambiance of this place is great, love the decor. Ordered one beer each with my husband and shared the fish and chips. Food is a bit pricey ngl, but it was delicious. Would like to come back and try more beer.

Cesear salad with avocado

I loved that Bartlett hall let you add avocado to your cesear salad and the portion was quite large and filling! Our server though looked like he didn't want to be there which did it make it a little awkward as a customer... Pub with long tables to easily sit large groups or there's a cozy fireplace in the entrance for small intimate groups.

Really bad service and the bartender waited on his friends who came in 12 minutes after us. We sat and waited to order a beer and he gave them theirs first. It was only after I rolled my eyes that he asked for our order We left without ordering. Forget that place is my advice

So the place it's spacious and the ambiance is great. The beer prices aren't all that bad either. I didn't stay long only because I came for a sour that was posted online but the menu didn't have it when I arrived. I might come back another time but tonight I'm not vibing to the beer selection

Food: 4/5 Enjoy the HH dishes. The Cajun style shrimp with garlic bread was tasty. The shrimp were also a nice size. The chicken wings were ok, nothing to rave about. The drinks were delicious! Cold, somewhat strong, nice start to and Saturday around 3pm. Service: 3/5 The staff was quick and attentive when available. Because the items were ordered through the app, it takes away the interaction with the servers, so sometimes things might take a bit longer if there's a special request. Ambiance: 4/5 Very nice, warm fireplace and the decore has a very nice American rustic feel. Everything seems very clean and updated. The seats are comfortable at the high top seating. Bar looks great!

The server stopped by and paused her phone call at the table to greet us. She came back 5 minutes later, still talking on the phone, to take our order. The music was cranked up so loud we could barely hear her. Another customer shot across the room to pay as seems to have been waiting a long time. We ordered and she went back on the phone and worked a laptop sitting on the counter. She poured my beer and left it sitting there for a solid 10 minutes while she played on the phone and laptop. We tried to flag her down but she didn't notice us. Since we were approaching 15 minutes of my beer sitting there and nothing else was moving in our direction, we left. The loud music was very overwhelming and the inattentive service was distracting. Maybe their porter is good. I wouldn't know, and I was looking forward to it. The clocks are cool.

Blueberry beer, Gimlet, wings, and pepperoni flatbread

We came for happy hour which runs from 3p-5p. It was seat yourself and there was ten of us so we really lucked out finding two tables right next to each other. Loved that they allowed kids. Very low key and laid back atmosphere but the bar tender and the server was super busy. I liked how you can use your phone to order and pay or else it would have taken a lot longer to get our orders in. The downside is all our drinks and food came out at different times. Server was very friendly and apologetic about the wait. Pepperoni flat bread was good, wings was amazing. Blueberry beer tasted like a smoothie and hubby enjoyed the porter and blonde saying those have been the best beers he's had recently. Gimlet was made refreshing and strong. Prices were very good for happy hour. $10 cocktails, $10 plates, and $6-7 beers. Highly recommend especially since it's hard to find a place where you can drink at happy hour prices with kids in union square!

Crab roll

Enjoyed an early dinner with colleagues after attending a conference near by. We reserved a table in advance and got a quiet space in the corner of the restaurant which was nice. We started with calamari to share which was delicious but a small portion. For my entree I had the crab roll which was a special for the day. It was light and fresh, I really enjoyed it. One of my colleagues burgers came very underdone which they corrected on the bill which was a nice gesture. Overall a nice stop to grab a drink and some food.

This is a great little bar with neat decor. The menu, ordering and paying are all done via QR code cubes on the table and your smart phone. The servers bring you a decanter of water, glasses silverware and your food. The food was great. They do automatically add 18% gratuity so be aware of that, in case you are thinking you could give less since everything is done on your phone.

Ask the Community - Bartlett Hall

Is it kid friendly?

I'd say so-so. The food options are limited and the vibe is very sports bar. But a kid won't be unwelcome.

Wanting to watch NBA. Will there be a projector? I prefer it on a large screen.

Yes! We have a large screen projector as well as multiple TV's throughout the space.

Do I need a reservation to eat/drink at night? Or is it easy to get a table?

It’s usually easy to get a table but we always recommend making a reservation. You can call us at 415.433.4332 and speak to our host.

Can kids eat here?

Yep. Came for a late breakfast with my 3 little kids. No "kids menu" so I split an adult plate between the older two and shared mine with the 3 year old.

We're not in this part of SF often, and neither of us are sports fans by any means, so a mega sports bar might seem like an odd choice, but from the reviews and pics, the spot looked fun. So on our most recent weekend trip to SF to celebrate RB's birthday, we made it a point to visit. This place is HUGE. Located in Chase Center, Splash is a two-story sports bar with TV screens everywhere. I imagine it gets packed out on game days. If you're into sports, this is definitely your happy place. I tried the Splash cocktail, which was very tasty, potent, and not overly sweet. They have a very respectable selection of various beers as well. Food-wise we opted for a couple of their sushi rolls - yes, they have sushi! We tried the Splash Roll and the Chase Heat Roll, both tasty. The food menu is pretty extensive, especially for a sports bar, and includes pizzas, sandwiches, appetizers, sushi rolls, tacos, burgers, and salads. Something for everyone. Service was good, the gentlemen working the bar were nice. The space is clean and well-maintained, and reminds me of bars in Vegas. Fun spot, would return. Cheers!

What originally started as a disappointment became a huge blessing once we found the board room. Feet aching, sweaty, and tired we made our way to this bar. Immediately you could tell it's a local favorite, the ambiance was nice and a great spot to people-watch. There was a cup flipping event which was super fun to spectate, along side the rotating pictures of the bar's beloved pooches . We ordered 2 western burgers, 12 count bone-in wings (half bbq, half Hawaiian), and an appetizer of corn dogs, tater tots, bacon Mac & cheese bites, and mozzarella sticks. Later we also added boneless buffalo wings which were so tangy, well-seasoned, and HOT. The western bacon burgers were so delicious, crispy bacon, crispy onion rings, and some bomb.com bbq sauce. The wings were drowned in sauce (just how we like them) , the bbq was to die for and the Hawaiian had the perfect little kick of spice for our picky eaters. The appetizer platter was also fried to perfection, with the perfect crunch on the tater tots & corn dogs. The Mac & cheese bites & mozzarella sticks were perfectly cheesed, with an amazing cheese pull on the mozzarella sticks. Along with the food, my boyfriend and I ordered some drinks. I got a margarita and he got a Guinness. Both drinks were good, very standard and well served. The couple behind the bar were very funny and super kind to us being dazed after all the walking. On our way back down to SoCal my brother is still raving about the burgers, this is a MUST-STOP the next time we come up to San Francisco!!

From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the sleek, moody ambiance dim lighting, plush seating, and a vibe that says "stay awhile." It's the kind of place where every detail feels intentional, from the curated cocktail list to the smooth jazz humming in the background. But what truly made the night stand out was Adam. He was an absolutely attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Whether it was recommending the perfect bourbon or just checking in with genuine care, Adam made us feel like VIPs without ever being over the top. You can tell he takes pride in creating a memorable experience. The drinks were expertly crafted (the smoked old fashioned was a standout and don't forget the espresso martini), and the small plates were just as impressive elevated comfort food with a creative twist. If you're looking for a place to unwind, a date, or just treat yourself to a night of great service and even better cocktails, The Boardroom delivers. And if you're lucky enough to be served by Adam, you're in for a five-star experience.
