I enjoyed the bartaco Stamford location very much. Service was very good and the food was decent. We had Duck, Carnitas, Pork Belly, Ribeye, Chicken, Fish tacos. We had some very good Guacamole and chips as well as Tuna and chips. Also a corn dish. My favorites were the pork belly and ribeye and the raw tuna and chips. I never thought of bartaco as exceptional until this visit. Stamford has a lot to offer, but I now think bartaco may be one of the better choices . I'm headed back soon! read more

I want update my review as I have been back to bartaco and had outstanding service, food, and drinks. I can see why this place has such a following, and such a crowded bar, and I can only hope to be one of their regulars! It is clear that bartaco prides itself on taking customer concerns seriously. Soon after posting my two star review, a manager contacted me asking for more information about my visit. He truly understood my frustration that night and even asked me to return one more time to make it up to me and my boyfriend. He even stopped by my table to say hi and chat about the problems in person. Really cool and nice dude! Well, bartaco did not disappoint. This time, my boyfriend and I ordered the small platter which included 6 tacos, 2 tamales, 2 veggie sides, guacamole and chips. A good size portion for two people. Thank you to Giselle for telling us to order the small and not the large. I was very hungry and she politely talked me down. She was so sweet and helpful! We received two steak, pork, and fish tacos each. I don't think I can pick a favorite from last night they were all so good. My ultimate favorite taco is still the oyster tacos from my last visit. The guacamole was so fresh and kinda chunky (which is a good thing) and our sides included a kind of lime, cream coleslaw, and cucumbers/zucchini. Everything was fresh and tasty and it took no time at all for our food to come to the table. The vibe of a Sunday night is much more to my liking than the craziness of the Thursday nights with Alive at Five. I would definitely recommend visiting then since there was no wait and the servers have time to tell you a bit about the menu and can make recommendations. One more thing: Get a cocktail. I never really go out when I'm home in Connecticut, but I was visiting some family in Stamford tonight so I figured I'd try a local spot. I have to say, they have a really impressive drink menu--great mojitos. Just a really solid tacos spot to order a bunch of different things to share. Order 3-4 tacos each and some sides (chips and guacamole & corn) and you'll be perfectly full. One afternoon last summer my boyfriend and I decided to stop for some food after a day of shopping. We passed by Bartaco and felt it was exactly what we were looking for. It is located in beautiful downtown Stamford next door to the restaurant Bareclona, which we came to learn is owned by the same people. The staff was very welcoming and the atomosphere was very cute. There are tables in the front of the restaurant, booths on the sides and a bar in the middle with bar stools. I would consider it to be a tapas styled taco restaurant. They give you a sheet and you check off which things you would like and how many. The tacos were $2.50 each or three for $7. They also have small dishes such as salads, soups, tamales, gorfitas, ceviche and quesdillas. I went with the baja fish taco, pork belly, and spicy chorizo. They were all moist and filled with flavor. On the side we also got the grilled corn on the cob with lime, cayenne and cotija cheese. The corn was grilled to perfection and covered in the cheese, it was a delite. We also enjoyed the spicy cucumber salad, it was refreshing with a kick! I also got a classic mojito, it was more than perfect for our summer day! Overall the staff and food is delicious, although be aware the tacos are very tiny. I've had most of the rice bowls, appetizers (please do yourself a favor and order the corn), and tacos. My favorites are pork belly, rib eye, and the Baja fish tacos, although the menu rotates a few times a year. They offer three types of salsas but beware, the colors are misleading! The super red one is actually not the most spicy. Drinks are strong and their margaritas are renown. Place gets insanely packed during lunch, night, and weekends so plan accordingly. I actually enjoy their ordering system. There are paper menus on the table with a pencil. You check off what you want, put a quantity next to it, and then simply place the slip in between a metal holder on the table. The waiter or waitress will come over and grab the order. I am finally giving up on this place. I have wanted so bad to like it given its location and cool indoor atmosphere. Wild margaritas are pretty good, you just can't overlook the fact that the food is not fresh the majority of the time. The shrimp they use for the tacos are days old shrimp that they simply reheat. The soup has frozen chips of ice in it. The chips, the large round chips, have so much salt you can't eat them - they are inedible. The dragonfly logo can be interpreted within their decor, from the wooden seats to the ceiling fans and the wooven baskets hanging from the ceiling. Small menu but full of flavor. I used to love this place for their fresh and tasty tacos. My friends were in town and some of them are vegetarians so took them to our favourite place Bartaco only to be disappointed this time. We went on July 5th evening right after the fireworks. Restaurant was not crowded but our order took way long time to arrive. Much longer than when it usually was crowded. We put up the fly card to talk to the waitress and let them know we need the veg tacos part of the order in separate tray but to my surprise no one showed up for over 10 minutes. Went in there after having read all those great reviews, a bit fearful that my expectations were too high, but this place is fantastic. I would highly recommend the roast duck taco and the brisket one. They were so gooood. We also ordered the guac and chips, which was really good, but heads up, there's jalapenos in the guac. Im not a fan of it so it was a bit of an unpleasant surprise, but the guac was still good. Great atmosphere with a novel way or ordering, where you just write in your order in this little leaflet, put it on your table and wait for the waiter to come fetch it. It was pretty loud once we got to the tables and hard to hear each other talk, but not as bad at the end of the bar. I would imagine a booth seat would be nicer. Our waitress definitely forgot about us multiple times. We had to wave her down any time we needed something. Of course, this is somewhat understandable when it's really busy. Drink: We got a mojito and a reviver. Both drinks were too sour for my taste, over-powering lime taste. Actually added some water to our drinks to make it less sour. Wouldn't spend money on a cocktail again, would prob stick with a beer. Food: Would recommend -- tuna poke, and the following tacos: duck, carnitas, and Baja fish. We also tried corn fritters (too cheesy and way too salty). And the following tacos were just "fine" for my taste, wouldn't order again - chicken, shrimp, and tuna with lettuce. Had a wonderful dining experience here. We initially planned to wait for a table and ended up at the bar. The service was superb, quick and attentive. We started out with a house margarita and a mango margarita. Both were excellent. The guacamole we ordered was prepared excellently. After that we ordered tacos. The ordering process was similar to ordering sushi, you picked what you wanted and it was prepared for you. We had a full array of tacos from cauliflower to rib eye to duck. All were excellent. Adam, the manager took very good care of us and made some excellent recommendations regarding different margaritas. We tried a blood orange margarita ( okay... 2) which was magnificent. Our waitress was pretty nice and we no complaints about her. The prices here lean towards expensive but they are plenty of choices. I am mostly referring to food; while beer choices were available the bar has nothing on tap. Booooo! Another tip for getting to know people, share a platter! My first time going here, I ordered a drink but I had to return it because it was way too strong! Chips & guac are mediocre to say the least. Missing flavor & salt much? This place is great if you're grabbing a mid day lunch. I went during happy hour & regretted that instantly! We are big fans of the menu and unique style of flavoring. The meats are delicate, the tortillas are light and the guacamole is fresh. The concept and experience of this restaurant is one of a kind, at least for now. The one star that is missing is the noise factor. Loud music and loud talking are a huge turn off.
