First responder theme emphasizing America's bravest--fire fighting men and women
David B.

This restaurant is a great find for short-order, diner food--particularly breakfast., Christy was my waitress. She was extremely warm, charming and attentive. I sat at the counter, which has round swivel stools. I ordered their Firehouse breakfast. Maybe best tasting pancakes I've ever had! It was their plain pancake--delicious. Perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs, crispy bacon, perfect grits, couldn't asked for a better breakfast. Coffee was delicious--pot said Maxel House. They provided sugar free syrup at my request. The theme of the restaurant is feed the fire fighter ‍ They have fire hats and memorbolia throughout the restaurant. So glad I came. I'll be back.

Food came out hot and fresh, and it was tasty. However I think it's a bit overpriced for what you get. The place was clean and had a cool firefighter atmosphere. Service was great too. I'll probably be back to try a lunch option and will see how that compares to breakfast.

Enjoyed breakfast on 10/18/25 at Barry's Cafe. Great food, good service, food was hot.

Great pancakes and omelets. A cozy atmosphere with extensive wall decorations supporting the local firefighters. You come here for the local vibe and the comfort food. It's in a typical shopping plaza, and all the store signs have the same font and color. It's near the grocery store. Also, if you ever wonder about paying the extra $1.75 to add blueberries or other toppings to your pancakes, do it. I got the blueberry pancake and they stuffed it with blueberries that each bite was bursting with the fruit. At the end, you pay at the counter.

I echo a few of the other comments when it comes to the food being good but nothing to write home about at all and the undertone of who feels "welcomed" - I will get back to that part. I would say IHOP or even Denny's would have more "flavor" with their food. I understand that it's a really popular spot for the location as I remember growing up and seeing a lot of the older community dinning there. The waitress was a very kind young lady. She was very helpful in navigating the menu to make sure we got something we would truly enjoy. She would keep tabs on us during our dining experience and made sure to top off my coffee and the other's drinks during our visit. I ordered the Veggie omelet with a side of hash browns (roasted potatoes) and wheat toast (buttered). My wife got the special that provided eggs, meat, bread, and a side (she got grits). The food was fresh and hot - but it needed something. It was if they didn't season it even with salt and pepper! So, I asked for some type of seasoning, the waitress provided they had Cajun seasoning, I told her that was would be fine. Sadly, it was the saving grace to the meal lol because HONEY where is the seasoning! As we were talking with our friends, an older woman walks up and asks us if we enjoyed the food and if we needed boxes? She started to remove dishes from the table and you could see our waitress hurry to our table as if to say "can you please not do that?". At that point, we got the hint. Just agreed to the boxes and was handed our bill. I could over look the food, because it wasn't horrible. However, I can't overlook the "under tone" and with that I will not return.

Not much of a breakfast girl but this was such a great stop! Serving breakfasts all day, Barry's Cafe is a staple in Raleigh with such a cool vibe honoring firefighters. Large party but our food came out quickly. It's a true diner experience as you have to wait to be seated by the hostess who is the cashier and can also be the waitress :) I enjoyed the veggie omelet.

Had the club sandwich; it was fresh and a large enough portion for 2-3 meals. Will be back to try more things.

I've only had the Papa burger and the club but that's been enough to keep me coming back & back... Nice folks to be around also.

High top and bar seat in the bar. Tables and booth seating in the restaurant. Food: ordered good ol' cheese burger which you can make your own (you can pick type of protein for the patty, veggies, cheese, sauce etc). Patty is cooked just like we asked- juicey and well flavored. Deviled egg was phenomenal- little rich and on the salty side but it only compliments their amber ale to chug. Another complimenting dish to the ale is definitely fried pickle. Portion is good=big. Oh, came here another time. Burger was good again. I ordered Philly cheese, which I loved the taste but the ground beef instead of shaved beef was not for me. Service: both times, the service was great. Fast and very attentive. Price: I think the price is reasonable if not, really great. $4 pint amber ale? It's a steal!

It took a while for the waitress to come over and take our order. The restaurant was not busy (other than our table there was only one other) and it took 10 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink. Then it took another 10 minutes for the water to show up and to have our orders taken. I ordered the Bad Ass Burger with fries. The fries arrived cold and floppy. I let the waitress know the fries were cold and she graciously took then and had them remade. The second set, arrived hot and floppy...and were unseasoned. The burger itself was terrible. The meat patties were not seasoned and overcooked (ordered medium arrived well done). Ultimately, the food was just disappointing. Lastly, I saw one of the cooks vaping over the food.

And the menu had a good variety of things that would make me want to come back and try. Also the vibes were good it seems like a good place to watch a game. To start off the meal we ordered some fried pickles as an appetizer and I loved them. They were just the right amount of crunchy and flavorful. The crinkle cut fries are a sleeper in the industry and if you do them right they are great and adding a dipping sauce is the way to go. Now onto the burger I got a smash burger with lettuce Moe joe sauce and cheese. It was a very solid burger! On my one bite score I gave it a 7.7 which is a very good score. The bun was hit or miss. For the other two burgers that had more toppings on them the bottom bun quickly got soggy. For mine it was fine the whole time. Overall I really enjoyed it and definitely would love to try different things on the menu next time.

Service could be better, but it's not bad. Decor and the bar were very cool and well designed parts of the restaurant. We ordered the Alabama Slammer and Classic Cheeseburger with truffle fries. If you order the truffle fries, make sure to grab a fork or extra napkins (or both)! Eating them gets real messy. Overall, a nice, casual burger spot in Raleigh with great fries.

Pick up your meal at the counter and it's time to eat! I did their popular truffle burger with fries Italiano and OMG! The burger was amazingly tender, rich and delicious. Tender grilled beef, smoky Gouda cheese, caramelized onions and truffle flavoring throughout. The skin-on fries with shaved parm, rosemary and garlic made for the perfect side. While the bar is not open yet, it looks like CowBar North Hills will have some beers and drinks to go with your burger. Overall I am super happy with what I experienced at CowBar. While the food is a touch pricey, it's totally worth the money and a better option to dine here, versus a crowded, noisy spot. Enjoy, Raleigh. You may have the best burger in the Triangle with CowBar!
