My girlfriend and I were looking for a fun place to have breakfast one morning and came across Barry's. I think we found our new go to place for breakfast. I am new to NC as well as the South (I am about as So Cal as you can get) and this place fired me up. Not cuz it has a fireman's theme to it, but the food and service were great (and there is a dive shop 100 feet next door). It would be hard to tell from appearances that this place serves up some great eats, but the waffle, eggs were great and the home made biscuits were totally awesome. I judge a breakfast place by their Corn Beef Hash and this place is spot on. Friends had Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuit, Greek Omelet and the Fireman's Breakfast. Everybody left full and happy. To be fair, I favor places that cater to firefighters. Having been in the fire service for several years, I'll drive across the country for someone that does good by me. The good news is Barry's is 2 miles from my house, so I don't need to drive far. It's a local diner in a strip mall. No, not a NJ-style diner, more a cafe. No, not a European-style cafe. Pancakes are fluffy and the size of a dinner plate. Bacon is thick AND crispy. Biscuits are worth taking a few extra home for supper. We had breakfast there yesterday and the food was alright not mind blowing as to some of the places we have been to..I had the biscuits and gravy and my wife had the fireman's breakfast.. We are not picky eaters and love a good breakfast joint..I did like the support for the firemen and it felt homey but the service was not up to par and the food was okay..My biscuits were hard and I have eaten better sausage gravy at other dives and felt this fell flat..My wife loved the pancake and the eggs were decent but the overall experience was okay especially since we traveled a good 12 miles to get to this place just to eat breakfast..Not worth the drive but was not really bad either.. read more

Our server, Nora, was the only bright spot in our breakfast. She made us feel welcome and got us everything we needed. The food on the other hand was not good. Omelet is tasteless. The chicken salad sandwich was also bland. The tomato was the highlight of the sandwich. The toast we got was burnt and tasted like it was old. I stopped in today to have breakfast with my girlfriend. We both had the firehouse platter, which consisted of one pancake, 2 eggs, choice of sausage or bacon, and choice of hash browns or grits. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The bacon was very crispy and had a great flavor. The hash browns had a delicious seasoning on them (they were my favorite). The pancake was very good too. This is one of the best places for breakfast in Raleigh. Lunch is fast and easy. The people who work there are great. This is why they do a great business. Seriously though this place is filthy dirty. This is not part of the charm! Spending wages to clean up the place won't make them any more money but if I notice I am sure I am not alone. My wife and I have been going to Barry's for over ten years. The burgers used to be worth killing somebody for; now they're just OK. We always sit at the counter behind the cook. They seem to be doing things differently - more attention paid to the internal temp of the burger (hello health dept?) and as a result my burger was pretty dry; hers was as well. They used to come to us not as well done. In addition, the burgers are smaller in diameter and thicker; in the past they were larger in diameter and thinner. Onion rings were good as usual; service good as usual. But the burgers...not so much. It pains me to say this, but the past couple of visits it's just not what it used to be. read more

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers we found this breakfast gem on a recent trip to Cary, NC. Normal variety of breakfast items on the menu, but the scrambled egg and sausage burrito is the bomb. Great neighborhood cafe if you live in the area, or even if you don't! We go here once a week for breakfast on the weekend, and it is always prompt, frrsh, and consistent. The food always tastes the same week-to-week, which is a good thing because it's delicious every time. By far the best part about Barry's is the staff, who are all very friendly and attentive. We go to Barry's virtually every Sunday, sit in one of three booths, and enjoy each and every visit. By the time we've sat down we have likely been spotted by our usual waitress (who is amazing!). She always remembers our drinks, even the Sundays when my mama and I go without Wraith, and is on top of everything to make sure our breakfast is wonderful. I love this place. It's cozy, and it can definitely get crowded on Saturday mornings, but the food is great. I got the breakfast burrito the first time, based on a recommendation from yelp, but I was a little disappointed. It tasted great, but it was pretty greasy. The next time I went, I tried the BLT, and it was fantastic. The hash browns are delicious, and according to my boyfriend, the omelets are great.
