Breakfast platter with sausage links and hash browns.
Noah L.

Food came out hot and fresh, and it was tasty. However I think it's a bit overpriced for what you get. The place was clean and had a cool firefighter atmosphere. Service was great too. I'll probably be back to try a lunch option and will see how that compares to breakfast.

Great pancakes and omelets. A cozy atmosphere with extensive wall decorations supporting the local firefighters. You come here for the local vibe and the comfort food. It's in a typical shopping plaza, and all the store signs have the same font and color. It's near the grocery store. Also, if you ever wonder about paying the extra $1.75 to add blueberries or other toppings to your pancakes, do it. I got the blueberry pancake and they stuffed it with blueberries that each bite was bursting with the fruit. At the end, you pay at the counter.

I echo a few of the other comments when it comes to the food being good but nothing to write home about at all and the undertone of who feels "welcomed" - I will get back to that part. I would say IHOP or even Denny's would have more "flavor" with their food. I understand that it's a really popular spot for the location as I remember growing up and seeing a lot of the older community dinning there. The waitress was a very kind young lady. She was very helpful in navigating the menu to make sure we got something we would truly enjoy. She would keep tabs on us during our dining experience and made sure to top off my coffee and the other's drinks during our visit. I ordered the Veggie omelet with a side of hash browns (roasted potatoes) and wheat toast (buttered). My wife got the special that provided eggs, meat, bread, and a side (she got grits). The food was fresh and hot - but it needed something. It was if they didn't season it even with salt and pepper! So, I asked for some type of seasoning, the waitress provided they had Cajun seasoning, I told her that was would be fine. Sadly, it was the saving grace to the meal lol because HONEY where is the seasoning! As we were talking with our friends, an older woman walks up and asks us if we enjoyed the food and if we needed boxes? She started to remove dishes from the table and you could see our waitress hurry to our table as if to say "can you please not do that?". At that point, we got the hint. Just agreed to the boxes and was handed our bill. I could over look the food, because it wasn't horrible. However, I can't overlook the "under tone" and with that I will not return.

Enjoyed breakfast on 10/18/25 at Barry's Cafe. Great food, good service, food was hot.

The food is absolutely amazing with crêpes ranging from sweet to breakfast to savory and of course moore hardy varieties. Avocado toast is fantastic by itself. It's a full meal all by itself and I could barely finish it all. Needless to say, the portions are hardy, and are big enough to share. Their service is fantastic very attentive without being invasive and they let you hang out for as long as you want. Located in the hart of downtown Raleigh parking is not difficult, but you may have to walk a few blocks to get here.

The shakshouka crepe was disappointing because while it had good flavor did not have the taste of shakshouka. No rich tomato flavors, cumin, or paprika. It was overwhelmed by the veggies places in it. The sauce was too little to balance out. Unfortunately because of those reasons it tasted pretty bland. Honestly, I would have gotten something different if I knew it was not really shakshouka. Service was good and they checked on us a few times to make sure everything was good. It has a nice interior and patio.

This morning, I walked in and saw not one familiar face there, and I've come to learn all the staff walked out simultaneously weeks ago. After getting to know many of the staff over the years of frequenting there, anything to make every staff member walk out at the same time has to be big enough to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Am truly sad to see such a Raleigh staple not see the value in the community their staff created. Cheers to Joe, Brennan, Brett, amber, and all of the others past a present (shout out Tim and Casey and Jackie!) for their place in our lives over all of these years! If you are looking for a coffee nearby, jubala (pendo), black & white (videri), heirloom are all great options (and sir Walter coffee and 42 & Lawrence are decent and close)

I tried the passionfruit mango cruffin and the brown butter crookie. Both were spot on with their flavors. The passionfruit cream was especially noteworthy for being packed with flavor and yet not too sweet. The layers of pasty were perfection. There's one spot to order, though they do a brisk takeout business. Once ordered, items come out quickly. There is some seating, and if you order to stay, then they'll bring your items to the table. The vibe is bright and semi industrial with some pastel colors to soften it up. I love the bright windows, even if you're just looking out on the car's parked right outside!

This bakery is definitely born from the Dominique Ansel/Supermoon Bakehouse era, and they are executing very well. (I've had some baaaad knockoff cruffins/cronuts/croissant hybrids, but this place is killing it.)
