Wedding nails: Coffin nude nails with white sugar and rhinestones by Sofia.
    Jenteel P.

Sofia did my wedding nails and did an excellent job! She was friendly, warm and very creative. I'm not an acrylic girl, so I was a bit nervous to go all out! Only thing is I'm not sure why she cut my nails only to put on extensions. My nails were quite long to begin with (maybe they don't put acrylic on natural nails). Anywho, she pays a lot of attention to detail and they came out great. Nadine did my toes; she seemed tired (it was the end of the night) and upon closer inspection I would say my toes reflected that. This place is focused on design. If you want to care for your natural nails, I would not recommend. But if you want a great design for a special occasion this is your spot! Also bring your own flip flops as they don't have any. Take a look at their IG to isolate the nail techs that are more skilled. I love that they are black owned including the techs. And they are open late!

Sad experience. Was really excited to go to Barry's after seeing their Instagram but was seriously disappointed with my experience. Went out of my way because I wanted to put my $ into a black-owned nail salon. I booked online with my deposit way ahead of time, traveled an hour from Manhattan and arrived 30 minutes early for my appointment. After waiting 45 minutes past my appointment time, I went to the desk to politely request a cancellation and refund as I had evening plans. I explained that rescheduling would be difficult as I went out of my way to come. Niko at the desk was pretty dismissive and clearly did not care. I was told no refunds, I could only reschedule with credit... even though they had me waiting nearly an hour? I decided to leave. Once I stepped outside, I got a call and was told I could see another tech immediately. I accepted as I had already spent 2 hours in travel/wait time and just wanted my nails done as a gift to myself after a long week. It was over an hour past my appointment time when I was seated. (The tech I had originally booked didn't even finish her client until 1.5 hours after our appointment time.) The nails are nice enough and my tech was very sweet. But definitely not worth $109 and 3+ hours of my Friday. I could have done this in a boutique space in Manhattan with better service and no hour+ delays. I won't return but wish them the best.

By Sophie, was a bit expensive but it's so worth it

Quality and service has really gone down. A lot of professional nice people have left the shop. The majority of the workers that are left are snappy and down right nasty and dismissive when you're telling them they're hurting your cuticles or you're not a fan of how the design is going. The large set light skinned women is rude as well as the one who beside her, Kim? Terrible and really hurt my cuticles. SNIFFLING ODDD during carina virus! Go home if you're sick with an attitude. Like what? The coworkers co-sign each other's nonsense instead of checking one another. There's NO respect for the customer or for the customers TIME. No ones perfect but come on now. They need staff training. I even paid with my card because I hated my nails and I wanted to dispute it with my bank. I changed my mind because I literally found money right after this and felt like karma was paying me back for the terrible experience. I'm very upset because I love my people and I'm going to continue to support black nail techs, just not here. Only giving 2 stars at not 1 because of my past experiences as well as the effort the receptionist put in attempting to help. I might go back it my new nail tech is too booked.

First off, my scheduled appointment was 1230, my tech wasn't there, and I was not seated until around 1pm. I had Camille. This was the most uncomfortable and roughest pedicure I've ever received. I was in severe pain the entire time, I almost shed tears. She told me that I needed to "relax my nerves".. How could I do that if you are literally digging into my skin. & the aftermath isn't even worth it. My feet look worse than they did when I came in. 3/5 of my toes are cut with sores and they still hurt. On top of everything else, they are not sanitary at all. She sprayed clorox on the instruments after they were finished with me and I'm pretty sure you have to either use barbicide or a sterilizer. They used neither. Worst experience of my life, I cannot believe I paid for this.

Nail started breaking after 5 days, this picture taken today has been exactly 7 days.

Went here because I have been looking for a black nail salon to support black businesses. The lady doing my nails was nice, but the job was poorly executed. The nail color I wanted would not work under the UV lamp (the color was coming out wrinkled). In the end I just had the nail tech give me a fill and cut down my nails. My fingers started bleeding because of how ruff my nails were being done and it's only been a week and I have 3 nails starting to come off. Even when I went to pay the manager didn't offer a discount or apology for the service, was in there for 3 hrs just for my nails and $45 down the drain. Again I try to support black businesses but Barrys in Brooklyn was poorly done. ***Update within last 4 hrs from post above...a total of 3 of my nails have broken with 7 days‍ what a waste of money***

This is a black owned business. The business is also conveniently located near public transportation. It's cost $70.00 dollars to get acrylic nails here. The quality is very nice. If you're a woman that enjoys nail art the kind that celebrities do to their nails. This is definitely the place to get your nails done. The reason why I gave the business 4 stars and not 5 is because it's not wheelchair accessible. You have to walk up about 10 stairs to get to the business. I still appreciate that this is a black owned business providing quality service and will continue to support it.

    What I asked for.

Honestly I blame myself because I should have canceled when the nail tech told me she's backed up and needed to push my appointment an hour back to 8pm. I really like getting my nails done and wanted to pamper myself so I naively agreed. The nail tech looked exhausted and did my nails in a rush. The edge of my nails were so sharp that I kept hurting myself. It was so thick and not filed down. I didn't want to stay another hour past closing especially because I work the following morning so I tried to be optimistic. However getting home and noticing every flaw made me want to rip them off. The photo in the right is what I asked for and the left is what I got.

The first time I ever came here I was a walk in, and spent over 6 hours in the salon. An hour waiting, another because for some insane reason it took an hour and a half to soak off my nails, and then another hour and a half of waiting, then another two hours on my nails. My nails came out okay, the nail tech hurt my cuticles and when I spoke up she told me to hush. I got encapsulated nails and it came out to 85$ for everything even though the website said it would be more I happily paid the 85$. I made an appointment and came back because my usual nail tech wasn't around, this time I get the encapsulated nails again and I'm charged 90$ even though I got less done than the first time, but whatever. It's 5$. I just know now that I need to ask beforehand. Same nail tech, she hurt my cuticles again but I didn't get cut so I just ignored it. I come back this last time (and this is the last time I will be going here) and there's a mix up with my appointment for the woman who did my nails the first two times being on a different day. Thankfully though they told me that I could still be seen as a walk in, how nice. I go in, get my soak off, ask the woman (again, not the one who did my nails before) how much my nails would be, instead of doing encapsulated I'm going to do a gel design, which I'm thinking should be cheaper. She tells me she thinks it's 90$ but she'll ask Barry to find out for sure. She tells me each nail is 5$ each. Whatever, fine, I was paying 80-90 the first two times anyways. She passes me off to this obviously new girl last minute, whatever, fine. She's doing my nails, cuts me. Whatever. Fine. I'm used to not getting the best cuticle treatment here. The nails come out okay, not as nice as I wanted but whatever I'm just trying to go home at this point, it's been 3 hours. I go up to pay and the girl tells me it's 120$ minus the 30$ prepayment on my appointment. So a total of 150$. Excuse me? The original girl I spoke to said it's 90$. Now the original girl tells me that she said it was going to be 10$ per nail not 5$. I said no you didn't, I didn't hear you say anything like that. She tells me she did, and then the new girl who did my nails pipes in saying she did. Now, I don't know if I'm crazy, but if something like a price jump of that caliber comes up, wouldn't you, as an employee, make sure that the customer heard you? A simple "Miss, it's going to be 150$ not 90$, is that still okay?", and waiting for a "Yes" or "No". How hard is that? And now I'm here, stuck paying the remaining 120$ that I definitely would not have agreed on if I had known. These nails are definitely not 150$ nails. I'm tired of getting hurt and never knowing how much my nails are going to be. When I saw their Instagram I thought this place was going to be so amazing, that my nails would be perfect. Every time I've come my nails have been okay, always slightly uneven, and sloppily shaped. This picture is the nails that I got this last time that were 150$. If this is what 150$ Barry's Beauty Bar nails are then I will not be back again. **UPDATE** it's only been 7 days, joy nail just broke. I've literally never had a nail break like this. Only further proving how bad the job was.

I just came from Barry's Beauty Bar. I'm a first time customer all the way from Long Island. Go see Shadeeka, she is great. They are a bit expensive but well worth it I think.

Where do I start? I only come here for Penny. I like her disposition, I can carry a conversation with her and together we create some bomb ass nails....but I can't take everything else. I once had an issue with one of the stones falling off my nails so I made an appointment because my set was just done the day prior. This was the first time I saw that they needed a deposit. This was something new after 3 years that I was seeing from them. I had made my appointment the month before for the set I just did and so I was annoyed. I have to make an appointment to fix my nail and leave a $20 deposit? I was annoyed because I could be there waiting for hours for one little fix...yes. This was like the 5th issue I had here but I always come back because I always love my nails. I went on Facebook and voiced my frustration as a review because I've actually recommended people to this place and you know what the "owner/manager" did? He cursed me out. I haven't been there really since. After some research I also believe they use MMA acrylic too because it definitely burns when you get your nails done. BEWARE.

I love my nails Thank you Sharon, your the bomb! I will definitely book again. See you next month

I was hard press to write a review but I feel I should share my experience. The first time I went to the shop Barry himself did my nails I was super excited because I needed something new and fun for my baby shower and he did just that my nails lasted three weeks. I went back before the birth of my child and saw Pepsi and she was lovely as well; both were on time and professional. Current date, I had an appointment on Saturday Feb 2, 2019 at 12 p.m with Jasmine. I explained to her what I wanted and she said sure no problem but I needed to soak my nails off because the polish I wanted was acrylic which was fine. I sat and sat and two hours later the polish was off but Jasmine had started another clients' nails, so I waited. Finally we began; I showed her a picture of a someones nails that was done at the shop but I wanted something similar, not exactly and she should be creative with the stones on every other nail. In total my nails were $100.00. Two days later my stones started to fall off and my nails started to dull. I send a DM on IG to the shop showing my nails and explaining that I worked in Westchester County and I lived in the Bronx so the travel would be difficult for me to do on the weekdays. I attempted to make the trip during the week but was unsuccessful due to the time. I was told that if I did not make it back to the shop by Thursday Feb 7, 2019 it would be a "wrap" because its "tax season, carnival and Valentine's Day" approaching. At no point in our correspondence was I given an apology for the nail job or a true solution for the issue. The second response was a bit clipped and snippy. At the very least a credit should been issue to me because I now have to soak my nails again for someone else to do them (which is more money spent for my nails in less than a week). I've been working in consumer service for over 10 years and I believe that there is a way to fix an issue especially when spending time and money for a particular service or product. I wanted to try a black own business because being a woman of color I think it is so important to keep my very hard owned money within my community however, when I'm not treated with the same level of importantance as I see they treat others with 12k followers I'm hard pressed to continue doing business there. I was taught that you treat people the way you want to be treat no matter their position or financial standings. Interesting enough I was referred to this shop by another black business owner who shockingly has posted review on here as well. It is so sad that even though I want to give financial support to black own business but not if I feel unappreciated as a client. I hope this helps others. Again Pepsi is amazing and Barry's work is amazing as well but the customer service during this visit is lackluster at best.

Terrible harmful MMA acrylic . Do your research ladies

I will never step foot in Barry's on Flatbush again . I wanted to support a local black business but they honestly aren't deserving of my service . They lack basic knowledge of nail care (your actual nail). I went in for a fill yesterday and was told the drill would not be used on my real nail. I looked down and saw she drilled into my real nails . The damage was horrible the drilling was very very deep. After bringing it to her attention she was very defensive . She then asked zuri to do my nails because she didn't want to do them . Needless to say I won't be returning . The lack of customer service and And knowledge is appalling . And oh they use MMA acrylic which makes no sense considering what they charge . I would really rather go to the Asian spot for half the price

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!…read more I came in as a first time client for a Brazilian wax, and I have nothing bad to say about the actual results because she did a fine job. [EDIT: I am scrolling through her reviews and noticed that she has received another 1 star review from two years ago, where she responded to it by accusing them of not being in her client list, and that they had never come in for a service, BUT in the review they had mentioned her repeatedly waxing over the same area multiple times, which I experienced as well. This is a huge red flag considering that I had the same experience as the woman who left the review!!!] However, I find it misleading how there are no photos of the actual studio online, only photos of the building where the small space that you are actually getting waxed in is located, which is essentially a closed glass office cubicle with a privacy curtain between the door and hallway. So if you are looking for a more upscale experience I would not recommend this studio, every other room on the floor of this building was literally a small desk with a computer and a chair. I also noticed that she was leaving the used strips in a very messy pile on the table I was laying on by my feet, which is unusual to me compared to other experiences I have had at different studios. I didn't realize until we were done because when I shifted my feet to sit up, my sock went straight into a pile of used strips and used cotton pads. We weren't chatting during the wax which is fine, but she also randomly broke the silence and started talking about how the chipotle she ate the night before was hurting her stomach and that I was thankfully the last client of the day because she wanted to go home. Which was also kind of strange to me as a first time client. She also did not discuss aftercare with me in person, as I was paying at the end of my appointment she told me that she would send the aftercare instructions to my phone. I received an email with the aftercare instructions 24 hours after my appointment, and then a text message with the same instructions 3 hours after I received the email. This bothered me a lot, because the most important time window of aftercare is the 24 hours that come immediately after the appointment, and she did not send the information until that time frame had already passed. When I confronted her about it, her response was also very strange and unapologetic. I have included screenshots with the appointment timestamp as well as the aftercare email timestamp, and the text messages that we exchanged the day after the appointment. Overall, this was the most unprofessional wax I have ever received, and I definitely will not be returning to this studio. I have never left a yelp review in my life and I really do not enjoy taking the time out of my day to write this about someone's small business, but I also think that other girls deserve to know my experience so that they aren't disappointed or even worse, left feeling uncomfortable during a service that is already a somewhat vulnerable situation in general.

She patiently answered all of my questions and made me feel comfortable from start to finish. During this appointment, I received a Brazilian wax, full butt, and armpit waxing. The pain was minimal and manageable, thanks to Kay's expertise and technique. I really appreciated how flexible Kay was with scheduling as long as you communicate with her, she's very accommodating. The email and text reminders before my appointment were also super helpful and made the process feel smooth and organized. Sending a quick text before arrival is another thoughtful touch that really works well. It ensures Kay knows you're there and helps both of you stay on schedule without wasting time. She also provided water and snacks, which added a welcoming and thoughtful touch. The vibe of the studio was calm and relaxing. I'm usually drawn to pink, but the purple décor was so soothing and made me feel at ease. I would absolutely recommend Kay to my friends and family. Her skill, kindness, flexibility, and attention to detail truly set her apart. Oh, and let me emphasize I feel NO hair. NONE. Kay did that! Thank you once
