Never been and we are tequila affeciandos and decided to give this place a whirl. First impression as we walked in was it looked as if a bomb had gone off. Dirty tables everywhere. (Bon Iver background music seemed a bit out of place) We balked but continued in. Sat at a dirty table and they promptly cleaned it. The lone server took our drink order and we also ordered an appetizer. The appetizer came out promptly but not the drinks. Started mulling over an exit strategy.......l could go on. Bottom line is more servers and or service attendants would make this place a standout. I get what they are trying to do but the service suffers. Spend a little on good help, increase staffing and it will pay for itself twofold. Trust me. I was in corporate and private restaurant management for 23 years. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but just couldn't get there. We live in the neighborhood, and were really excited to see what the local owners had in store for this beloved spot that has so much potential... Sadly, the experience itself was very impersonal and underwhelming. You can't order with your server... only through an app, which is confusing and restricting, even for someone in their 30s. I understand there are probably kinks being worked out, but we sat at the bar and not once had a bartender say hello or ask if we needed help with ordering or anything. Instead, we had to keep flagging down people for help with the app. Another note: Anyone with food allergies or preferences -- beware. Because the app has restrictions, it was very hard to modify ANYTHING on the menu (food, drinks... you name it). As someone with food allergies and a husband who is a bit on the picky side, it was incredibly frustrating to hear that you "weren't allowed to add cheese" to a taco, or take out spicy peppers from a quesadilla. I'm not sure if that's because the app wouldn't allow it or what, but either way, we were incredibly disappointed with the level of customer service and willingness to accommodate. :( Some may enjoy ordering and paying through an app (and that's fine), but I sincerely hope Barrio reconsiders using this as the ONLY way to operate in their restaurant. It's not just impersonal, but also restricts certain customers and age groups from being able to have a good experience. An older couple sat next to us at the bar on our way out, and had no idea how to do everything on the app. They were embarrassed and overwhelmed with app ordering, and it broke my heart that they couldn't walk into a new restaurant and order dinner the way they've done for decades. This place has potential (and the food and drinks are good) -- but Barrio, please consider your customers in redesigning the dining/drinking experience. We didn't come in to sit on our phones all evening, then feel required to tip when we didn't even have a true server! read more

Sorry - no go for me! Tried to understand their computer ordering software to no avail! Then asked our server for assistance and tutoring on the system - they didn't know how to work it! Ended up being served twice for our same initial order which the server politely took back. Total confusion amongst staff on their system and serving. First time here. We were hoping this was a mexican restaurant, but it's more a bar with bar food. Not a fan of how you order food through their app. Very little human interaction. Had issues with the app at first, and the staff was great. I ordered 2 Carne asada tacos and 2 fish tacos. Carne asada tacos were ok. Fish tacos were pretty good. My wife had the asada quesodilla and chips/guacamole. If the menu was not literally 90% booze and more choices on food, it would have worked out. Food and drinks are great, service is quick, and love the quick order using the qr code. We've been a couple of times and greatly prefer the outdoor seating when the weather cooperates because it's a little quieter. Do wish that kids were allowed, but it's a great spot for a date night! read more

We live walking distance from barrio so we were excited to try it out. The food was decent but everything else was pretty disappointing. When trying to "seat ourselves" there were only empty tables with no chairs left, that others had taken to their tables, which I understand. That being said the staff was not wanting to help us find a solution to this problem. Once we were able to finally sit down the QR code became the next problem. The ordering system is mostly why we have never wanted to go back! They had so many employees inside that it didn't make sense as to why they don't have servers. The vibe is cool so I wish they would change their ordering system to be more personal and geared towards their guests. When trying to get the bill the QR code had grouped our bill all together and they said the system doesn't allow them to split it up. Hoping they can read some of their reviews and see the QR code is a consistent problem! read more

This is not a great place. The ordering on your smartphone is good, in my opinion, but some will hate it. I enjoyed it so I could book it out of there as quick as humanly possible. The tacos are very small and expensive. They're ok, but sub par to many places in Boise. The drink prices are ridiculous too. I could get the same tequila for half price within a mile or two. Love this new rest/bar in Bown. Stopped by for a quick bite after a long trip and didn't disappoint. The drink list looks amazing, we tried 4 of their cocktails and they were just on point. We also had the street corn which was very flavorful. We also tried 3 of their tacos which were ok. I would def go back for drinks, apps and to try their other menu items. The staff was really nice and came in to check on us (even though you order everything online). It is a very lively atmosphere, cool decorated and they have amazing windows that will open for when the weather warms up! read more

So disappointed. We really wanted to like this place. It's clever but ultimately doesn't deliver on its promise. We went on a Tuesday for Taco Tuesday at happy hour. So we were looking forward to good prices and great tacos. The place was not busy, but not empty. We put in our order telling the waitress we would order more but it was our first time so we just wanted to try a couple of things then order more. It took FOREVER for our order of two tacos each to come up. The tequila we ordered, the bartender only brought one out. I needed to ask for the second one and he was surprised and said - oh was it supposed to be two? Long after the tequila was finished the owner, I think, came out and apologized for the wait on the food said there was a issue with our ticket and it would be right out. Told us to order what we wanted after if we were still hungry and he'd take care of it as an apology for the long wait. The tacos finally came out. Two pork and two carne asada tacos - it was the first time I've ever had ground carne asada. Not what I was expecting. I would t get those tacos again. The pork tacos were good. We decided to order a little more based on the quality of the pork tacos. Told our server we didn't want to take advantage so while we were ok with the owner taking care of us, we didn't want them to pay for the whole meal. We ordered a regular order of barrio tacos and some nachos and one mixed drink. The tacos came out long before the nachos - so their timing is terrible. Food doesn't come up together. The mixed drink I ordered was not the one I was served and when I asked I was assured it was the correct drink. The when it was time for the payment the server came out and said oh let me run in to confirm - so I was assuming she was clearing something with the owners. Nope. Full price. I don't mind paying for what I order but when the owner makes an unprompted statement that he will cover the whole meal and we tell the server we appreciate that but he doesn't need to cover it all, I would expect that he at least honor the items he said he would cover before ordering anything else. But nope. Full price. Bad service. Ok food. Ground carne asada. I was so hoping for a new early afternoon hangout. But we won't go back. read more

This review is from my first visit and after reading previous reviews - many positive and a few not so. First let me say that I love tequilas and just ok with tacos and margaritas until I visited Barrio. I am definitely a convert for the latter two. So let me start by sharing a list of what I didn't like and then close with what I did like Didn't like 1. Did like 1. Margarita with egg white is a margarita done right. The Barrio Margarita is probably the best margarita I have tasted in the Treasure Valley. 2. Street tacos. Some say are small. I found the pork and chicken were smallish but more than adequate to satisfy me. Just really didn't have room for a 3rd when paired with the fix and chips 3. Guacamole and chips. Chip were tasty, thin and chips. Went well with the frash made guacamole. Much Breyer than those places you know squeezed their mushy guacamole out of a plastic bag. Barrio guacamole is tasty and flavorful 4. Ordering. Paperless menus I am sure will be the new normal and at Barrio it works. Had no problem placing order for food and drinks using the QRC code and well as paying for the bill within the app. 5. Service. I could not believe how quickly the order arrived after pressing send. I think the owner or manager and attendants like Ky were ever present and checking in to see how things were going. Even took a suggestion for a tequila they don't carry ( Adictivo). 6. Ambience. Very nice warm decor and had a sort of European feel where to don't feel rushed to eat and get out because they want to turn the table. Bottomline: I'll be back And please don't share this review. I made the drive from Nampa to come try this place out as I follow their social media and have been very intrigued. Their drinks always look so good on social media. I wasn't very impressed with the food or drinks. Tried the Mezcalita and it was disappointing. I feel like the type of Mezcal used wasn't right. It had an after taste. I've had many Mezcalitas in the past and they're always a hit or miss, this was a miss. Food was ok not great but it was decent. Our tortillas came out cold and our drinks came after our food which was odd for us. Also, we only saw our server once to order food & drinks. I think it could've been great had either the food or drinks been amazing or even if we hadn't waited so long to be acknowledged would've made it better. (Side note: the "spicy" salsa wasn't spicy one bit). Also, the ambiance was great just wish food & drinks were a bigger hit. read more

I liked the decor and the vibe. A little noise. The biggest complaint I have is there is no service. You have to scan an app and order and pay by your phone. It took us 15 minutes just to order on the phone. When I go out I don't want to do the job for the restaurant. Then when you close out they still expect a 20-25% gratuity for just dropping off your order. I think in the long run this will affect their business because when people go out they like to interact with the waitstaff and have service. read more

Have been a number of times now. Enjoy the food, drinks and environmental. The service needs work. And the ordering app needs to go away, or at least be augmented with actual wait staff. Saddling up to the bar and a bartender flipping a QR code your way and saying, "You know what to do" isn't my idea of going out. Nor is having the staff put the chairs up on top of the tables twenty minutes before closing in their ever so subtle way of saying "get tf out." Came in at 3pm on a Saturday with a mostly empty restaurant, waited about 20min to place a drink order, waited another 20min to get our beverages. I've been looking forward to this bar/restaurant to open. Three of us visited Barrio for drinks and appetizers. We typically go Dutch on the bill, so all three of us were required to use the app. Entering our names, phone number and credit card information before we ordered was a turn-off. We are in our 50s and 60s, and found the lack of paper menus and interaction with staff to answer questions, made for impersonal experience, like ordering from a vending machine. It would sit better if pricing of food and drinks were lower, but at these prices I would expect it to be a full-service experience. The younger generation might be okay with the app interface and paying more for food and drinks, but we will look elsewhere. read more
