Entrance to Barre3 in Ballard is on 24th Ave NW

I don't like to sweat. Due to a deviated septum (crooked nose canal), I have a hard time getting enough air. And I'm really bad with heat--as in I get too hot and can't cool down. So, it was intimidating to walk into the new Barre3 studio in Ballard to try out a completely new exercise routine and to know that I was going to sweat, probably get overheated, and have a hard time getting enough oxygen. Still, I had walked by the new Barre3 studio in Ballard so many times as it was getting built and set up and I often wondered, what was it like? Yesterday, I found out. And I'm glad I did. This is their opening week and I had signed up for a free class online. I got on the wait list but after I called to check on it, the nice receptionist said I was confirmed for the class. The rep was very friendly when I walked in. She had me fill out a form, showed me where to stow my stuff, took me on a tour, and then introduced me to my instructor Katie. Customer service = A+. The class? Well, I sweated (oh yeah, did I sweat). I got overheated (but then cooled down at the end). I had a hard time breathing, but that's nothing new (until I get surgery). Katie was a GREAT teacher and gave us options throughout the class so some of us (ahem) could slow down and/or adjust the moves to our level. This was all great, but I happened to choose a spot next to a woman who was like a Barre veteran. She did all her squats like a soldier, going lower and lower, and putting my moves to shame. Still, I kept up...barely. By the end of class, I thought, maybe I could be like her in like, three years? So, if you haven't tried out barre yet, check this place out. (I'm going to try the 3 classes for $40 special once I get back from vacay.) Who knows? I just might be in your class. Just look for the 40-something Asian gal sweating like mad, overheating, and trying to get more oxygen.

Wow. I attended my first ever barre class here this past weekend, and I can't wait for the next one! The facility is located in a very easy to find, convenient spot right on the corner of 24th and 58th street. I lucked out and got street parking right around the corner fairly quickly, but I think there was also paid parking close by. Side note (and also a bonus): there's a QFC right across the street in case you need a quick snack or drink before/after class. When I walked in, I was really impressed with how inviting, yet modern, it was. Like I said, I've never been to a barre class, but I have attended yoga and Pilates classes and though those locations were very modern and "trendy" they didn't feel as inviting. Whoever designed this space nailed it. Kimberly, the owner, was very friendly and immediately came over to introduce herself to my girlfriend and me. It was apparent she was preoccupied when we arrived, but she made an effort to stop and say hi, and I really appreciated that. She lead the class we took, and it was easy to open ourselves up to a new experience with her at the helm. She had great energy, was really encouraging, and lead a really fun class! You almost forget your quads are burning and knees are shaking when she's cracking jokes walking around the room adjusting our positions :) The workout itself was one of the best group classes I've ever been to. I worked out muscles I didn't even know I have...but definitely still ache (so good!) almost 3 days later. There are 2 studios in the facility, and a beautiful women's locker room as well (I imagine the men's is just as nice as the women's). The locker room is stocked with various beauty products (hair ties, bobby pins, wipes, sprays, etc) and was cleaner than most 5 star hotels! There's a sweet child care area in the lobby of the facility that looked really fun for little ones, as a mother of 2 that's something I really appreciate. Don't forget to bring your reusable water bottles - there's a bottle refill station in the lobby as well. Environmentally friendly for the win! I live in Bremerton (a 1 hour ferry ride and 20 min drive away) and have a class package that I plan to use. That's the ultimate testament to how awesome Kimberly and this barre3 location!

They operate sign ups through the MindBody app and have a good amount of class offerings scattered throughout the day. My first class was great! I appreciated that the instructor was super welcoming and took the time to explain the machine. During class, she was highly attentive to everyone's needs and gave great cues and affirmation. She also shared ways to modify. My second class was spicier! The instructor started at the back of the carriage and it was a killer ab workout. Music was great in both classes! Both classes flew by, but were great workouts. A little movement can pack quite the punch. I enjoyed the class and think this is a great pilates studio. On day one at Inspire, I had Kim who was so welcoming and taught an awesome and challenging class. Since then I have taken classes with Mara, Sarah and Becca who have all been phenomenal! The classes are hard though can be paced to your level by just taking breaks along the way on your own accord. The real difference between an okay to great studio is having instructors that can correctly queue and correct technique to ensure you are doing the exercise correct and targeting the intended muscle groups. Every instructor I have had thus far has done just that, which elevates every class and pushes you every time you come to class. Super excited to continue to take classes here !

First and foremost, Kaitlyn M is a rockstar. Her classes are thoughtful, creative, and the perfect balance of challenging yet approachable--you feel the work, but never in a discouraging way. She has amazing energy, gives spot-on cues, and her corrections are always gentle yet effective. I love how she explains what we're working on, what it targets, and how it should feel, while always offering both more advanced and less intense options. Her class flow, the challenge, the stretching--it's all delicious! Her professionalism and ease make it feel like she's been teaching forever, yet she hasn't lost her spark or edge. I'm beyond grateful for her classes and (selfishly) wish she taught even more! Honestly, I hesitate to write this because I don't want to end up stuck on the waitlist, but credit is due where it's deserved--Kaitlyn is amazing! I also have to shout out some of the other fantastic instructors at Vitality: Liz's jumpboard classes are an absolute blast--her spunky energy is contagious, and I look forward to my Thursday nights with Liz and our little jumpboard crew every single week! Mari's classes are top-notch; they're usually waitlisted, and there's a reason why--she's fantastic. Sharareh is a newer teacher, and I love how much care, affinity, and belief in the power of Pilates she brings to every class. She is tender in the best way. Michele also started more recently, but you'd never know it. She taught the first class I ever took at Vitality, and I had no idea she was new--her instruction was clear, and she spoke to the fundamentals of Pilates beautifully. Teaching a beginner class can be tricky, and she handled it seamlessly! Natalie--creative, challenging, and guaranteed to kick your butt! MK is always a joy--consistent and lighthearted, and I leave every class with a smile. Andy... OMG. So hard. So many planks. But a great class nonetheless! Overall, I'm incredibly grateful for Vitality. Their pricing is reasonable, allowing me to do the unlimited package, which has improved both my physical and mental health tenfold.
