Overpriced and not very impressive. It's not that the food was bad, it's just that it wasn't great. The creativity and attention to detail just weren't there. It was more like entrees that should be priced in the $20-25 range as opposed to the $30-54 that is present in this restaurant. The spicy wahoo smoked fish dip had too much mayo and salt in it. The fried edamame is soaked in oil on the outside. The cheese in the kids mac and cheese was very artificial tasting. Not much to say about our entrees (crispy duck and local yellowtail snapper)...simply ok. read more

I've been to Barracuda grill four times. All the times on business dinners with customers while attending an event in the Keys. We always had a great 5 star experience but unfortunately this Past Friday it was not to be. The waitress and the food were excellent buttttt at the end of the dinner 9:30 pm the chef/owner walked over to our table ( we were the last one's there) and basically in a polite way kicked us out. He came over and didn't ask us how was the food or anything a chef would do but just " thank you for coming" in other words he meant get The F out of here. We just spent over $500.00 + 20% tip. After I left with my party we all discussed how rude he had been by basically throwing us out. There were only 4 tables being served that night so they weren't busy since they open at 6:30 pm and close at 10 pm. As an owner/chef I would take the time to be a little more respectful and thankful to your customers, especially people like me that always praised and recommended your restaurant. Outstanding food, service and affordable wines. The menu has a wide range of options for the more casual diner to more upscale choices. I had a ribeye that knocked my socks off and my wife had the grouper. The head chef and owner is in and out of the kitchen all night long working the room and checking with his guests. It's a modest room, well decorated and comfortable. If your looking for fried fish, there are other places. We've dined all over the Keys and this place is consistent in quality, selection and price. Great, upscale, unique dinner place. Not cheap, but fantastic food. The chef and his wife own the place and keep the quality high and the experience very plesant. I've been coming here with my parents since they opened years ago and visited earlier this year and was happy to see everything was still top notch. I love the super-spicy and flavorful calamari as well as the conch cakes (which are tragically no longer on the regular menu!). They now sell the awesome calamari sauce as well as "Barracuda Buzz" honey, which was also great! read more

Solid flavours all around. This place was a nice change from fried and/or flavourless seafood meals we had in the area during our stay. The calamari was spicy and served in a sauce rather than fried. Everyone loved it. Dumplings were good. Fish was cooked nicely. Service was great. The location stinks. Inside dining seems OK. We dined outside, which puts you next to a parking lot and close to Highway 1. There is no view. Nice beer and wine list. You can tell that the chef takes pride in his product. This is more of a 'fine dining' kind of place than the usual Keys eating house but not so posh you have to dress up! The food was really good; very tasty and cooked well. They have limited choices on the menu but that's not a bad thing. It is quite pricey though. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Would recommend this place if you fancy something different to the seafood and casual dining you find in excess. read more

I have to say that this was the best meal that we've had by a long shot on our trip to Hawk's Cay! We had the seafood scampi, Caesar salad with chicken (one of the best that I've ever had, and I've had a lot of Caesar salads in my life!) and my children had the spaghetti and meatballs and BBQ chicken from the kids' menu, and we finished with the brownie with vanilla ice cream. Everything was fantastic from beginning to end. My fiancé and I arrived to a warm greeting and were sat promptly. We ordered a bottle of wine from a great wine list to start. We had the shrimp and calamari appetizer which had the perfect amount of heat. The house dressing is creamy garlic Parmesan, a must try for your salad. She had the petite steak and I had the black grouper. I must divulge I am a chef and the entire meal was exquisite including timing in between courses. Service was as wonderful as the food. Received a gift certificate for this restaurant as a wedding present. It is a small restaurant with a nice atmosphere & attentive service. My food was delayed, the Chef/Owner came out to talk to us personally. No problem, we were talking over a bottle of wine. The food was very good, obviously each plate is prepared to order with care. My wife and I ate here midweek after driving past it frequently and noticing the Yelp and Zagat rating stickers on the door. However, the service and food we received was not impressive at all. To start, we received glasses of water (no straws), and butter for bread (no bread until requested it). We were also told they served wine by the glass, but no where on the supplied wine list did they say which ones were offered, so we blindly ordered two glasses of their unnamed house Cabernet. The smoked fish spread appetizer was just ok. We both received salads with our entrees; both of which were swimming in globs of dressing. I had opted for the blue cheese dressing, but it contained so much garlic, it tasted like Caesar dressing. For dinner, she ordered Scallops in Pesto sauce over linguini, which was also too heavy on the garlic for our tastes. The scallops, while cooked perfectly, were not cleaned and still had the foot attached to each of them. I had the Grouper entree, which arrived heavily spiced with Old Bay and crusted (which was not mentioned in the description), then topped with an excessively spicy mango salsa.... and severely undercooked (which we noticed when we got home after it was packed up to go). Overall, for the price, pretentious atmosphere, and reviews on here, we expected so much better. read more

We were there the week after Christmas. The food was superb and the waitstaff very attentive. Meant to review sooner but time got away and I didn't remember until we were planning our next trip this year. This was recommended to us by a local, and we can't wait to go back. Hands down one of the best restaurants in Marathon! The restaurant is casual, fun, great food and always guarenteed to be good. The restaurant does not take reservations but if you end up having to wait it is worth the wait. There is something on the menu for everyone! The portions are very generous but everything is good. The menu seems to change often and I love the variety that it has to offer. The owners do a coloring contest for the kids that allows them to draw a picture of a barracuda - the prize (always) is an ice cream for dessert. This restauarnt is great with a group of friends, a romantic dinner for 2 or a dinner with the family. I love everything at the restaurant - the only thing I wish they offered in the restaurant is the dinners are served with a mixed vegtable - I wish they would offer a single vegetable choice like sauteed spinach etc. The nice thing about the restaurant is the chef walks around and greets people at their tables! Get there early if you want the grouper! My husbands shrimp scampi was absolutely delicious. You could barely tell there was any pasta in there, it was so filled with shrimp and the sauce was addicting! The crab cake was amazing, the best I have had in the Keys (and arguably in MD where I'm from, save my godmother's). My only complaint was the chef was a little heavy-handed with the wasabi on the ahi tuna. It was a beautifully cooked piece of tuna that was drowned in a 1/2 cup of wasabi "drizzle" (and I love wasabi!). For the first time in my life I had to scrape off the sauce to even be able to see there was an incredible piece of meat under there, nevermind being able to taste it. Paired with a seaweed salad that tasted like what I could have bought at Whole Foods, kind of a disappointment and I felt I missed out on some great food (especially for the price!). From all the exclamations of delight around me, I can tell you the rest of the land lubber fare is well worth it (scampi was the only seafood aside from the tuna left on the menu). We had a great romantic dinner for 2 and I would definitely come back despite the mistep. They obviously do well with kids and adults alike, as there were plenty of families, but the ambience was still great. I might just skip the tuna next time, and opt for the many other yummy things on the menu. read more

This is the first time I have ever felt completely compelled to write a post. The service I received from Katia was perhaps the worst I have ever received at any dining experience. I travel often for business as well as for pleasure and have never felt more disregarded or ignored. My dining experience lasted over three hours & all I got was spaghetti & meatballs! On the positive side the Hostess was exceptional. I think that she actually felt bad for me because she kept coming over to my table to ask if I was being assisted. I'm not sure if it was because I kept quiet or if it was because I was dining alone, but it took Katia an hour to bring out my salad. During this time, she stayed at the same two tables. I have to believe that she must have known them. Regardless her service was deplorable to the point of her not even hearing me when I said that I wanted to take the spaghetti home. She kept the spaghetti on a bill but never wrapped it. Thankfully the owner of the restaurant did come out to speak with me; however seemed quite abrupt, stating "what do you want"? I explained to him what had happened with Katia's lack of service throughout the meal and he said that he would "make my check go away" and that he "was very busy". Although I appreciated his efforts in "making the check go away", it truly wasn't about money. It was about feeling disregarded & kept waiting throughout the entire meal. This is definitely a restaurant I will not visit again. And it's really too bad because I will be traveling to the keys for work weekly - The Hostess at this restaurant really could teach both Katia and the owner a bit about service. read more
