I am late on this update, however I am only addressing food and service NOT entertainment (still open mic hit or miss). I have been here numerous times for business lunches that I have taken colleagues and visitors. A group of ten of us each ordering different dishes, from the quesadillas, the she crab soup, blackened tuna salad, reuben sandwich and burger. We sat ourselves so no wait. This is the place to go for lunch, a steady lunch crowd of downtown workers. The service was great, not perfect but the waitress was pleasant, put up with one of our group's PITA (you always get one that wants "this, but not that," "can you explain this" etc.") the waitress was way more patient than I was considering the PITA could have RTFM. Anyhow, she did a stellar job considering it was lunch hour. I had the reuben, coleslaw and fries and tea all for about $12 w/tax! The reubens here are made with pastrami (versus the cornbeef that Tony's Famous Grill uses- also delicious) with thousand island on the side and a spear of dill (my least fav part-the pickles they use have a weird taste). The sandwich was huge and tasted like everything you want in a reuben, perfect toasted rye-no soggy spots, meat piled high, just perfect. I'm not a fry person, but these were the bomb, natural cut, crispy, not a grease pile, if I want fries again, this is where I'll go. The coleslaw was great, shredded not too small, not soupy, not too sweet, just the right sweet and and sour. I sampled the quesadilla, again big and yummy, the she crab soup, OMG again! HUGE chunks of crab meat so good I have gone back and ordered. The tuna salad was beautiful and I've ordered it more than once, always beautifully sliced and presented. I didn't try the burger but my co-worker was in love. Needless to say my visitors were impressed and I got credit for picking the spot :-). My sandwich was so great that one of the guys in the group bought one to take back to DC! The prices are MORE than fair, the food was terrific, and the service was fast. Food is good but I wish the place was cleaner. Service was great although I haven't seen the server I like in a while. She must not be there anymore. I haven't been in a few months but the two times we've gone I just couldn't be comfortable because it felt "dirty" so we haven't been back and don't plan to. read more

Hands down best burger I ever had! Thanks for putting some love and spices in your cowboy burger. I always walk away from restaurants that have bland burgers. Thank you for making them great. When opened our plates and sat down to eat within minutes of arrival, we noticed that the lettuce was brown, the oysters were spoiled and rancid and the tuna was hard as a brick! My husband and I are fairly new to this area as retired Army Veterans and well traveled. We have supported and frequented this small restaurant business for approximately a year since moving here. The food is generally ok, when cooking at home isn't an option. To their credit, our past orders have been acceptable with the exception of one other time that our order was sub-par and they did replace it. On Friday, we ordered 2 blackened tuna salads and 2 oyster salads. We used Door Dash and they arrived on time as the tracker predicted. When opened our plates and sat down to eat within minutes of arrival, we noticed that the lettuce was brown, the oysters were spoiled and rancid and the tuna was hard as a brick! Due to a recent surgery, and much going on in the moment, we opted to trash it and eat some soup and crackers instead for the evening. I took pictures, so that when I was ready to address it with the manager/owner, they could audit their kitchen, being fully aware of the quality of their current stock. My husband called them on Sunday, to speak with the owner and Katrina suggested that we speak with Mike on Monday. We did, and here's where a simple apology, and an order rectify, went completely down hill and off the rails. Mike was condescending, hostile and entitled to be right in his tone on the phone, blamed Door Dash, even though they were on time, said that they have a lettuce shortage, implying that rotten lettuce was ok to sell, blamed the rancid, rotten oysters on a delayed shipment, implying that rotten ones are ok to sell when fresh isn't in their stock, blamed the rock, brick hard tuna on us even tho we always order medium rare and topped his act off by yelling at us over the phone when we didn't allow him to disrespect us verbally. He didn't want to return our money, told us to take that one up with door dash, said he would remake the order and insisted that we eat oysters again from his kitchen. We declined and asked for a replacement fish, to feel somewhat vindicated. Hesitantly he agreed after finally understanding his risk and liability and our desire to not get food poisoning from his kitchen. My husband picked up the replacement order and he MIKE was as disorderly in person also, yelling, boisterous, tantrum filled... We threw the replacement order in the trash because, judging by his hostile, entitled demeanor, we don't trust his intentions with preparing anything for us to eat. We Won't EVER Order From Barons Again. And all referrals are retracted. read more

We drove down from Richmond to go to a different place only to find it is closed on Mondays in spite of saying online it was open. My husband got the meatloaf special and ate it all) and he might not eat again for 2 days. I got the steak sandwich which was good. The lettuce and tomato on it were really fresh. Our server was friendly and efficient. She was so busy but got everything to us promptly. We would definitely go back. read more

Drinks are good and food was alright until I looked slightly left and noticed one of the workers making a salad for a customer with no gloves. Just straight grabbing shredded lettuce and slapping tomatoes into the bowl with her bare hands... hopefully she washed her hands... the world may never know. read more

Tonight I went to Barons to ease my mind because today was really a day. Ashley our bartender was great. After we got our food ALLY OR ALY the "manager " approach my friend about something personal that happen 1 year and a half ago yelling at him telling him he owes her an apology. I was so confused cause we was really trying to relax and enjoy our dinner. She kept saying well you owe me an apology about saving your dog. He said when you brought my dog to me I said thanks so much and you was cursing at me. Apparently his dog got out and she ran after him in the rain and is mad at him for her running after his dog. And she said " yeah I cursed you out". I was shocked because I never head service like this before. Personal situation shouldn't be handled on the clock. It's been 1 year almost 2 years and she still upset. She was screaming "I'm not scared of you". I'm so confused. Now my friend ready to leave and I'm upset cause now we have to go too. There was no GOOD reason for her to bring up something that happen so long ago. Mind you he is a man and she is a woman saying im not scared of you. Like what!!! SO UNPROFESSIONAL!! I never in my life experience this type of behavior and Im a huge foodie. I stay eating out and this behavior is not ok. She been working there for years and feel like she is irreplaceable. I usually order Barons from doordash and wanted to eat in just to have to deal with this TERRIBLE SERVICE. I don't think I will give Barons another dime of my money if she is working there. That was terrible. I'm shaking as I write this because its crazy how RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL she was. She even gave me a look when I told her to please let us eat. She wouldn't stop. first time we went was during covid when they first opened, we didn't have high expectations due to the situation and thankfully we didn't because the food was cold, the fresh potato chips were soggy, the fries were cold and soaked in oil, the middle of my Reuben was cold and the paper plates the food was on were also soaked in oil. Just disappointing but because of covid we didn't hold it against them. Today we decided to give them a try since restaurants are back in full swing. We ordered wings, two orders. That was at roughly 12:30, it's currently 2:18 and have yet to receive our food. The original time given to us was 1:20. Granted we ordered with Uber eats and it's game day so we expected some delay but at 2:10 the app said that they hadn't even started our order. We canceled. We are a very easy going people, always understanding especially since I used to work in a kitchen all throughout college so I know it gets a bit hectic BUT we were going on two hours without our order even being started. If this is an issue with Uber eats and not the restaurant directly then I'd think the restaurant should partner with grub hub or door dash because I can tell you as a pregnant woman that just wanted some wings and watch football, I was not happy waiting almost 2 hours just end up having to cancel our order and order from else where. read more

Very greasy food!!! We felt sick after eating there! I had steak sandwich asked medium for my steak, the meat came hard, dry and over cooked ! Told our waitress who has never asked us how's food, no refill for my water, took my plates and didn't offer any solution! I paid the full price for few Fries few bites of bread! The Pub used to be my favorite place to go but it's definitely gone downhill. The food isn't as good. The portions are super tiny and the service isn't on point like it use to be. My husband even got his food served on a visibly broken dish. I don't plan on going back anytime soon. read more

Worst service I have experienced, ever. It's rare that I leave a bad review- but this was a truly terrible experience. The restaurant was busy- it took 45 minutes to get our appetizers, one person in our party never received their drink order, had to go to the bar to get it and the bartender was extremely rude to her. 3 of our dinner orders were wrong, nothing was done to remedy this. Then it took almost an hour to get our checks sorted out. The waitress made mistakes on almost every person in our party's checks and then was not able to fix any of it. All of us were travelling for work so we needed accurate, itemized receipts. The food was just ok- over salted and bland, but ok. Would not recommend. read more

Good food but for the love of god can they please do something about the smell! It smells like any and everything that has ever been spilled on the floor there was just left to soak in. Like a room full of clothes you forgot in the washer and then some. Aside from that, they're the type of spot our area doesn't have much of so I'm glad they're here. I would just prefer to be able to take my wife, friends, and family out to eat there and not just order takeout because of the smell inside. Your staff has been great in my experience so help them out and make the place somewhere people want to dine in and tip. Our waitress was amazing. My husband ordered wings, it was very good. I ordered red eye burger. The burger was great. But our fries both came out very greasy and soggy. Definitely wet fries. That was the only thing we were not happy with. With that said, don't order fries when you do there. read more

Went for lunch today. I have to say, I was impressed. It was burger day, so I got a Baron Burger with a tea. The burger was HUGE, with sautéed onions and mushrooms. Wife and I thought our tuna melts were not all that great and fries were only warm but over cooked. Replacements came out quick so that's a plus. Mixed food reviews from others in group. Recently having come out this way we decided to stop in Barons Pub to have lunch today. Upon seating we were greeted by our waitress Kekee who asked if we wanted drinks and then offered us the menu. When she came back to our table she mentioned the lunch special of the day fried chicken, collards, mashed potato's and cornbread. We were considering another item and then decided it sounded good and chose the chicken and we also tried the French onion soup, Both were Fabulous! And the price of the special made it even sweeter. Everything was seasoned just right. And not to forget the coffee! I consider myself a coffee conigseaur of sorts and must say their coffee was delicious and it was served with heavy cream... Wow! Kekee was a super waitress! She kept check on us and made sure everything was to our liking and then mentioned they offer specials on different days too. The place was clean and inviting when you walked in and the music I considered as modern mix. Considering a lunch spot in Suffolk? Then may we suggest Barons Pub! Let me put it this way. While stranded after Pokémon go went down I wondered what the hell I was doing here. When I looked to the left and saw a corner full of trash and discarded food then saw the open ice container between two bathrooms with a dirty scoop and trash next to it. I knew I had made a mistake. By the time I realized this I was brought out theater quality nachos who who knows what binding them together. Just pass on this place. Pass for you and your children. read more

The first app came out 45 minutes but the 3 other apps did not come until over an hour after we ordered. One person in our group never got her drink and had to go to the bar to re-order. So this place was kind of a roller coaster of emotions lol I really had to think about how to rate it because my visit varied so much. So we walk in, sit, and I'd say it took a good 15 minutes to get noticed. There wasn't any sign to wait to be seated and it was about 215 on Saturday, so people were around but it wasn't packed. When we ordered I got a Coke, my husband got a Diet Coke. The waitress returned giving us each the wrong drinks, and in very dirty glasses. Like seriously gross glasses with stuff floating in it. So she apologized, got us both new drinks. I then went to the bathroom and not only was the sign on the women's door missing so I couldn't tell if I was in the right spot-- but the bathroom was a wreck disgusting. The floor was covered in what I hope to be water. The toilet moved around like, I sat on it and the entire thing shifted back and forth. So I was kind of like okay I wish I had any other choice than to use this haha so then I noticed when I got back to my table that on the bar there's like 30-40 dirty glasses there. It's been here the entire time. We were there from 215-320 and it was there the entire time. I even took a photo because I was like uhhhh no wonder our glasses were dirty... So by now you're like my god this place sounds awful, right? Okay but then the food came out and it was ON POINT delicious. Like seriously an incredibly delicious meal. We both got the cowboy it was amazing. So then I was torn because the entire visit thus far had been awful but the food... Was so great. So here we are at 3 stars lol so THEN the waitress brought us the wrong check- not only did they bring us the wrong check but they charged us incorrectly, basing it off another check we were not given to begin with. Meaning, we got a check for $20, then when we got our receipt we were charged for someone else's check of $66. I have ate here numerous times over the past three years with my husband. Generally the only time we "eat" is when we are having a drink. The food is typical pub food, and it's really hit or miss. We have tried the mile high nachos which are pretty good, the stuffed mushrooms which were horrible, the cheese sticks were average, and the quesadilla was good. Nothing that we have tried gives us the wow factor that we were looking for. However, we find the atmosphere pleasant and the drink selection is appropriate. I only give two stars because there are numerous places in Suffolk that we would rather go. read more

Went for Lunch/Early Dinner. Went on a Tuesday, where they had a Taco Special. It is not on the menu. There is Beef, Chicken, Fish & Buffalo Chicken. The chicken and buffalo chicken are nothing special. Beef is good, Fish is best of the bunch. Will try their homemade fried chicken special during lunch on New Years'. Waitress Amanda is amazing, and Hostess Gina is hospitable as well. Menu pricing is very good and reasonable. A father of four can feed his family without totally looking over his shoulder worrying about the bill. You get what you pay for here. Will Recommend! read more

Saturday, November 2nd.... late, post dinner, pre getting our drink on.... We were stunned by the amazing singing duo set up in the corner of the bar area!! Amazing! What? Where are we? A M A Z I N G talent in a pub in downtown sleepy Suffolk, VA?!?!? Toto? A little help please! I'm tripping down a rabbit hole and landing on a yellow brick road of kick A$$ singing duo folksy heaven..... seriously, people... check out the live talent at Barons and you can thank me later. As for the pub, it was fine. The beer was plentiful and cold. They have a too-enormous large beer and a too-small small beer, which is oddly comical. Either you drink too fast to try and kill the large before it goes warm, or you end up paying too much by buying multiple small doses. The service was awesome. The food was mediocre. The mile high nachos were only a mile high because of the chunks of iceberg lettuce they mounded on top of the plate. Order sans lettuce and see what happens. My guess is that they might be pretty tasty! Come here to enjoy the company, the music, and the beer. read more

Went to this place after my run and I would say it's a little better than your local bar. The nice thing is the placed is tiered with the dining area on the lower level and the bar on the upper level. Originally, I was going to come in for a burger and beer. I missed the burger special the night before. I happened to get there on their steamed shrimp night, which was a great deal and the overall presentation was pretty good. Unfortunately, Yelp doesn't allow me to upload a picture of my dish. This is a casual place and has an easygoing vibe, though I was there on a Thursday night. I have now been into Baron's twice. The first time was sort of unsuccessful. One of the people in our group was under age and was our DD for the night. Even though there was no one at the door to check IDs, she didn't approach the bar, and we didn't order a drink for her we were told we couldn't be in there. I'm not really complaining about that but if they're going to be hardasses about who can be in the bar maybe they should have a bouncer. Anyway, my second trip in was with my girlfriend and her family for lunch. Mostly hamburgers and reubens were ordered. Most everyone had pretty much the same thought...the food was just mediocre. The burger that I had was fine but it didn't really have a ton of flavor. The regular fries were pretty good. They seemed to be handcut and not frozen. The sweet potato fries that my girlfriend got were another story. They had some kind of sugar/cinnamon glaze that made them even sweeter than sweet potato fries usually are. The worst part was that they were severely under cooked. They were pretty much inedible. The service wasn't terrible. The waitress was friendly but she wasn't particularly speedy. She was working the whole place but there were only like 3 other tables at the time so take it for what you will. I feel like it's a place to go for a drink late night and not food. Maybe the next time we're in the area for a night we'll stop in and I can give it a better review. read more
