They say they are locally owned and operated but out of the dozen times we've been there there's never been a manager or owner ever come to our table or present in restaurant. We always go on a Saturday night with 10 plus people. The food is mediocre and inevitably at least one person's meal is incorrect, cold or the server fails to enter the order. Great food, great service! I see people complaining about cooks "not wearing masks" or "having masks on under their chin" and frankly I've never had this issue. I also work in the restaurant business and it's not a law that any employee needs to wear a mask. We used to come to this place when it was Taste of Texas. I don't know who owns it now but it hasn't been good for a while. It has nothing to do with having to find good help. Every restaurant of this caliber the manager or owner goes around the restaurant to find out how things are -NEVER once in the years we've been going have we seen someone ever resembling a manager. Clearly the owner is clueless with what is happening in this establishment. We went during Rodeo weekend and the 8 of us were seated and ordered. The server brought salads that weren't ours. One person didn't get his food until most of us were done eating ours because the initial order was incorrect. I ordered the prime rib--it was cold as was the sweet potato. The butter didn't even melt on the potato. One of the other orders was chicken tenders and fries-- both cold. We will NEVER go back. read more

We used to come to this location when it was the "Taste of Texas". This was our first stop back under the new name. While the menus seemed similar the food and preparation certainly went up a couple notches. The Rack of Ribs and the Brisket we're excellent. The Beef Vegetable soup was better than the server promised. The service was professional. I would suggest they upgrade the dessert menu and remind the staff that it can be part of the dinner experience. All in all I highly recommend the prospective diner give it a try! read more

This place needs to close it's doors, and fast! Went here last evening with the family and all the food was far from satisfying. I ordered the brisket meal (how can you go wrong at a BBQ joint) and swear to god it was roast beef. Potatoes were okay but on the cold side, and the broccoli florets were huge undercooked trees. 3 meals, no drinks (water) or apps, $90 dollars. That's a weeks of groceries for a single guy. Alright here it is. I gave 2 stars because giving 1 star would probally sound ridiculous to readers. We went for dinner on 03/01/2024. This place had a 30 minute wait which I considered to be a sign that food was good enough to wait for. I was the one excited and recommending this place. I had the porterhouse 22 oz wrangler steak and ordered medium well. I don't know if they don't know how to cook or are biased against medium well and well done taste preferences. This steak came white on the inside. I've never seen this except when I use old frozen meat and quickly thaw out, because there is no blood in the meat it cooks white. It smelled funny too. Thought I was trippin so I cooked some steaks on Sunday that were different texture, different color, and different smell. I will not be returning to this spot however, there is a nice black top grill right next to this spot where they serve decent food. Almost didn't give this place a try because of their current 3 star rating. So glad we decided to give them a try! We were seated right away. Our server was very knowledgeable of both the menu and the history of the restaurant. Every one of his recommendations were spot on. "Battered mushrooms and zucchini" yum! Build your own burger (1/2 inch patty) and buffalo grilled chicken breast. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. All the vegetables were perfectly tender. Not mushy and not Al dente. This place is not gourmet food but we enjoyed our evening here. We were a large party and got seated immediately. Our service was above adequate and they have kids menus which is always a plus for us. I shared a plate with my mom and they were kind enough to split it for us. We had the prime rib sandwich with jalapeños and it was quite yummy. My dad's steak was so-so, but again not a gourmet place. The temperature of the steak, however, was accurate. My sister enjoyed the fish sandwich. We got the brisket queso for an appetizer which could have used more brisket, but it was still good. They brought all our food out at the same time and it was hot which is a great feat for 8 people. The ambiance was really nice and it is kid friendly. The bonus for us too was that it seems to have a Steeler bar attached to it so we might come back for that! read more

I also noticed that they weren't playing any music which also surprised me (like their more noisy crowded competitor down the street!) We came my partner was hankering for a hamburger and this place really came through. The burger was cooked to order and had a very nice mesquite grilled flavor... As she gave me a bite. I ordered a jerk chicken salad and I was surprised it wasn't overly salty or spicy and quite tasty. My only comment would be it didn't come with lots of veggies but most steak places don't. We recently had a dinner for 65 people at Barnfire and it was a wonderful experience!! The manager, Danielle, was very easy to work with and offered many good suggestions in terms of food and decoration. We took in decorations the day before and they had the room looking beautiful on the day of the dinner. The servers went out of their way to please and even helped cut and serve the cake we brought!! It took over 20 minutes before a server came to my table. Kailee was awesome once she helped me. It then too over 30 minutes to get my food to my table. Now mind you it's a Thursday night at 6pm. I don't know if there were short staffed, but it's unacceptable to get your seat and then. Or have any water delivered to you within the first 5 minutes of you sitting. We ordered Mozzarella sticks ($12) - we were starving but seriously? $12?? a burger ($12), a New York steak ($25), and a sirloin steak ($17), and 3 beers. Our total came to $93 for 3 people!! That would be okay if the food was worth it BUT ... it was not. Minimal, if any, flavoring on the steak; I was looking for steak sauce after the first bite because it was tasteless ... My baked potato came with sour cream, that's it... the yam came with literally nothing (and it was so over cooked it was shriveled), the marinara sauce for the cheese sticks was more like tomato chunks with no flavor... we came here when it was Taste of Texas and it was bad then too but I had hoped it was because it was so busy that day; I guess only the name has changed. We used the banquet room yesterday for a group of 20+ ladies. I got there a little early to decorate the tables specific to our event. I liked the heavy doors than kept out 80% of the restaurant noise. There was also a separate door leading right into the banquet room. The room was very spacious and would have easily accommodated a larger group. Two servers, Mary and Hannah, came in and introduced themselves, and said they would be our servers for the evening. These ladies took care of every detail and had such a very pleasant demeanor. They worked around our program, not to interrupt any speaker. All the beverages and meals were served in a timely fashion, all the special requests were accommodated. Heard the prime rib was perfect, and I can testify that the petite sirloin was grilled nicely, and to the degree of doneness I requested. Lots of bacon on the loaded bake potato! The salmon looked pretty tasty too, as I looked around the room at what the other ladies were eating. Well, in conclusion, our group are new fans of Barnfire Mesquite Grill.
