I visit Bowie only occasionally, but? Barnes & Noble is always an add-on stop. It's pristine, has lots of parking, their magazine selection is large, and the staff is beyond helpful. It's peaceful, even within and around the in-store Starbucks, where, of course, more chatting and energy are had. I miss the bookstores of yesteryear; this location eases and helps bandage the longing. Watching patrons explore the aisles of shelves or sit where they find selections that require on-the-spot reading warms my heart. read more

Great bookstore, with good service! Book selection and the selection of toys and random things is legit and always stocked. Good local artist events...they don't have Skylar and Brother D's Adventure in store but it can be ordered...they need to get that on the shelves!!! The barista on Saturday mornings in the best! Been here twice! First time I came it was almost closing time and they still had the doors open. Nice!!!! Second time around, I came in for a book for my son. I'm writing this review to recognize great customer service from Raelynn. I came into the store asking if they had a certain Funko Pop that was exclusive to Barnes and Noble. It was supposed to be available in the beginning of September. When I searched for the item on their website, nothing came up. Raelynn searched in their system and said they had the item I was looking for. Their shipment just came in the day before. She searched for 10-15 minutes in the back looking for the item. She came back, apologized that she took so long, and said she opened many boxes and couldn't find the item. She took down my name and number and said she'd call me when they were found. 2 hours later, I received a call that the item was located and that she'd put two on hold for me. I went back to the store and was able to purchase my item with no problems. During the pandemic, it was hard finding a place that not only was fun for my wife and I, but also accommodating for our daughter who is a toddler. Not only is this location very kid friendly, the staff here are professionals through and through. Outside of the store, there is a hand sanitizing station which is almost always stocked with sanitizer. All of the associates wear masks and the individuals working in the café do so with care. Do you need a lightly toasted grilled cheese sandwich for your toddler? Not a problem! Coming to this location has helped to reduce the stress from COVID. I've been coming to this Barnes & Noble location since I was in college. I've never had an issue with the associates or the quality of merchandise at this location. Located in Bowie Town Center, Barnes and Noble always has whatever books I require and if not, they have no issues with ordering it for me. The staff is always nice and helpful, well, with the exception of the cashier I encountered the other day. Apparently he should have gone to bed a little earlier the night before because he was totally out of it. A small cafe is located inside and plenty of interesting items to browse, can keep you in this store for hours. I've met here for school projects as well as meetings with people. Eh, pretty good selection. My only complaint is the cashiers. I have a major issue of cashiers putting money, receipts on the counter when my hand is visibly out. Maybe it's a protocol (highly doubt it since I've been a few times and was handed a receipt like a human being). Maybe it's because it's "me". Pop figurines not organized at all. I'd probably have bought more if they were perhaps grouped together by marvel, Harry Potter, Game of thrones. Great place to buy books I occassionally like to stop by here and read a few comic books or gaming magazines. Its always a pretty quiet yet relaxing envionment. They have a coffee shop (Starbucks I think) in the back of the store and furniture around different parts of the store for people to sit and read on. I've always gotten great service from the employees there when I'm looking for something in particular. Although, I always feel kind of strange when leaving because I always think that I'm going to get stopped by the guard that is always by the door. read more

My daughter has to do a 100 book challenge...So here we go, to Barnes and Noble. This location is very nice and the workers are extremely friendly. I even signed up for the Kids Club. The internet and e-Readers are slowly killing books. It makes me wonder how much longer bookstores will exist. Not only electrons, but multiple used bookstores are opening up. It just a shame. Barnes & Noble is the last chain store that still believes in books. They have a loyalty, as they should, because without them the chain can die. Having said that, this Barnes & Noble is nice. Since the Annapolis store closed, it is only one of the few left. They created a library atmosphere and you can even sit down and peruse material. A coffee shop so you can have the yuppie experience of being a bookworm and having your java at the same time. Hope bookstores don't die. Im an avid but ever sense the invention of the nook I havent had much reason to step foot in a book store again. Well when looking for the perfect Christmas gift for my niece i knew this would be the perfect place. They have a great kids section and I was able to find just what i needed and get out of there. This is the 2nd time I have called this bookstore asking them to hold a book and stating I was on my way, to only get there which is 40 minutes away from my house to have them tell me we can't find it. It is so unacceptable!! Especially when I called beforehand. And their excuse, well you hung up prior to me finding the book, but we can order it!! No you will not because my daughter will need it tomorrow which is why I called. When you tell a customer we have it and it will be upfront, what else do I need to stay on the phone for!! I have been to this place multiple times last month and it never stops imaging. They keep the store clean and the staff are extremely pleasant to work with. They have free wifi if you want to sit and work. I did this myself for hours in stretch. There is also Starbucks which is very good. Kids have an area to read. Restrooms are very clean. Nice bookstore but a bit dark; needs more lighting. Nice layout but seems they were trying too hard. Adequate amount of window seats to relax, read, and people watch. Very friendly staff. Nice cafe/coffee place. Didn't find the book I was looking for which was disappointing but overall, not a bad place to consider buying my books and stuff since my favorite store - Borders - was closed. Had poor experience. Asked customer Service to order a book they did not have on shelf. Associated made it clear he would rather I order it from their website. When book arrived, it was wrong. Associate at register spent some time explaining how it was my fault the book was wrong. This experience was a good argument for Amazon. read more

Bah-Humbug to Barnes & Noble and their lousy customer service, and their Christmas items that are on the sale table, but the manager will tell you that the Christmas item you have is not actually part of their after-Christmas sale. Other stores like Target, Walmart, Sears, Macy's, JCPenney, and CVS do not have "selective" Christmas items where some Christmas items are on-sale after-Christmas and some Christmas items aren't on-sale at all after-Christmas, this seems to be a problem limited pretty much to Barnes & Noble. I was charged full price for a CHRISTMAS card on December 28th 2015 during Barnes & Noble after-Christmas sale... a Christmas ornament wrung-up for 50% off, you can see it right on the receipt, christmas ornament, on-sale for 50% off, CHRISTMAS card, FULL PRICE, not on sale AT ALL. Please see photos... Beware of Barnes & Noble "sales" and the way the manager handles your Christmas items "not being part of the after-Christmas sale," even if the card states CHRISTMAS on it and is from the sale table - the manager will accuse you of getting it from somewhere else when you tell her that, she lacks simple customer service skills - "Some of the Christmas items are on sale, and some aren't..." HOW HELPFUL!!! (sarcasm) SMH SOME CHRISTMAS ITEMS AREN'T ON-SALE AFTER CHRISTMAS AT BARNES & NOBLE AT ALL, AND THERE IS NO INDICATION TO INFORM CUSTOMERS OF THAT EXCEPT FOR GETTING OVERCHARGED, OR THE RUDE MANAGER THAT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TELL YOU THAT BARNES & NOBLE AFTER-CHRISTMAS SALE IS A GAMBLE AS TO WHETHER CHRISTMAS ITEMS ARE INCLUDED IN THEIR AFTER-CHRISTMAS SALE, AND WHY CUSTOMERS HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR A CHRISTMAS ITEM AFTER CHRISTMAS, DURING THEIR AFTER-CHRISTMAS SALE. After I left Barnes & Noble, I went to 5 Below, and got Holiday Jelly Belly Beans, and 5 Below actually honored their 50% off sale, unlike Barnes & Noble - please see photos. It's not easy to get assistance at Barnes & Noble, they seem understaffed. Not a good shopping experience - don't let them do this to you, shop somewhere else. I have always loved books and although my family gave me a NOOK two Christmases ago, I still like to read a book I can page and hold in my hands. What a disappointment the Barnes and Nobles store in Bowie is. Only two representatives to help at the customer desk, but, o dear, I am not allowed to look up the information on the computer myself and was scolded by the attendant. Then the disappointment there is only one book from the author I am looking for - and I already read it. No offer to order the book just told me it is not in stock. Sorry to say I can see why so many of these bookstores closed down. I have also regretted getting the Nook. I have lost all my e-books that I have bought, and due to poor customer service was not able to retrieve them. When I called I was directed to go in-store and once in the store directed back to call or go on-line. Poor service!!! I will from now on buy from the author's website myself.
