This place has a great selection of reasonably priced books. I found some hard-to-find cookbooks and African art books at $3 each.

This is a wonderful hidden gem in Crofton. Well organized, with room after room of books at great prices.

Wide selection, a little disorganized. The prices seem to hover around $4. Good place to find some cheap books.

I must have walked by Back Creek Books dozens and dozens of times - on Main Street among dozens of…read moreother shops and restaurants and bars, it's right truly in the heart of historic Annapolis. And yet I'd never stopped in until last week! I don't know what took me so long. It's a bookstore, but it's not your every day bookstore. Back Creek Books sells used books and antiquarian books (rare and very old books). It's small, so I wondered if I wouldn't find something I wanted to take home with me. What a silly thought. I had about 20 minutes to kill before heading to a work event and popped in. I found several books I wanted to take home within just a few minutes and without even leaving the first one or two bookshelves (fiction). They have lots of older editions, signed books, and less common finds - many at still very affordable prices (don't get intimidated by their very rare and quite expensive books in the front window, not everything in the shop is a first edition with a high price tag). I picked up a signed book of short stories that I'm really excited to read. This probably isn't the bookshop for you if you're looking for something specific or if you only read new releases. But it's a great shop for browsing if you're looking for something unexpected, different, or special!

"I decked Flash...He wouldn't shut up and, without even thinking, I balled up my fist and...Principal Gorbert chewed us out. Said we were a bunch of selfish brats. Said tonight was for everyone, and we ruined it." Moments later, with tears running down her eyes, Liz makes a startling confession. "I care about you so much. You're my best friend, my sister. I try to think of what my life would be like without you in it, and it makes me sick inside." Liz pauses. "Your popularity and success, it's all great. It's what you deserve. I should be happy for you, right? And, I mean, in a way, I am, but...I needed desperately to be Homecoming Queen. Not because I am trying to feel superior to anyone, or because I have it coming to me. I needed it so...so maybe I could stop feeling like...I hate you." Eventually, the panels of the fourth issue of Sean McKeever and Takeshi Miyazawa's Mary Jane: Homecoming miniseries end in complete silence--with the two lifelong friends each riding one of the adjacent swings Liz seized for them in elementary school, but the words that Liz spoke before are what spark the imagination and trigger empathy, regret, anger, and love. Sentences in the best-written novels, mysteries, fantasies, speculative histories, and gothic horror do that too; and there is no better place to discover new sequences of words that will linger in your memory than Queen Takes Book, located at 6955 Oakland Mills Road in Columbia, Maryland. There, the friendly service will welcome you as if to the sparking embers of a fireplace in which only your imaginations are lit.
