Scallop tacos

I am updating my review to 4 stars after the owner made contact and offered to make our issues right. That goes a long way!

Wasabi fish tacos
Suzanne M.

We arrived in Gold Beach for a long holiday weekend around 7:00 pm. Looked at Yelp reviews and decided take out from Barnacle Bistro was it. No one answered the phone. There was a message indicating we could order online. Did that. Simple. Arrived and noticed a pick up window. Food was done at the time promised. We ordered 2 orders of the Wasabi fish tacos. They were huge and we could have shared one order of 2 large tacos. They were delicious and so worth the price. The interior of the restaurant was small and dated or should I say had coastal character? Good choice!

Coconut lime steamer clams

ABSOLUTELY delicious. Small place, clean and bright. This kind of steamer clams with coconut milk and lime was SO SO SO good. Their focaccia bread was very good too. Service was great too! They may be understaffed so be patient! Worth the wait.

The Alaskan Cod fish and chips were wonderful. The sesame-ginger pickled cabbage slaw is a must-eat!

Stopped by for lunch and had the fish and chips. The Alaskan Cod was flaky and delicious, the fries done to perfection and the slaw stole the show. If they have this, order this!

Wasabi fish tacos

Super busy on a Monday night after six, we were lucky to score a table on the patio, protected from the crazy wind. Our server was clearly overwhelmed but super friendly and kept up better than expected in the packed restaurant. I had bookmarked this place to try the polenta crab cakes, and so that is what I ordered. Along with a $8 well drink, probably a rum and coke it was not memorable. The crab cakes were two thin patties, a little squishy inside, but with a great flavor. I appreciate NO PANKO. The little pile of coleslaw was a welcome addition of fiber. I forgot to order cocktail sauce, as it is my preference over the standard tartar sauce served with the crab cakes. It took our server a very long while to come back with it, but it was super. My husband ordered the wasabi fish tacos. They were enormous, breaded fish filets in flour tortillas with greens and plentiful spicy wasabi mayo hiding underneath. He also had a pint of beer, not sure what. By the time he finished the first taco he was already dismantling the second one to just eat the insides. They were very filling. Well, although hubby got sick shortly after eating here, I do not blame the Barnacle Bistro. There were beer and french fries involved long before we visited. I would love to come back and try more of the menu, maybe at lunch or off time when not super busy.

clam chowder!

sweet lil spot right off the 101. was camping at humbug campground just 30 mins north and needed a spot to grab some grub. glad we came here. the fish and chips was cooked perfectly and we upgraded to garlic parm fries, yum! and we also split a tuna melt with the fluffiest bread i ever did have. really too good.but my friend complained it could have had more tuna lol. ofc had to have some clam chowder and that was perf. we also had beer, nice to wash it all down. had a view of the ocean while eating against the bar table. will surely come back again when i'm around the area!

Chimichurri burger with garlic fries

We came in on a Saturday around 3. We were seated right away there wasn't a wait. We ordered our drinks and then food. I ordered the chimichurri burger and my husband ordered the fish and chips with garlic fries. The burger was freshly made and delicious. The fish was fresh and tasty. The garlic fries are very good as well, highly recommend. Great service and great eats. We will be back. If you're looking for fish and chips in gold beach, this place won't disappoint!

Inside. Outside seating too.

My favorite coastal restaurant for fish and chips!!! Always fresh and not greasy. Tonight had the Alaska cod and garlic fries. Delish! And the blueberry cheesecake. Great atmosphere, super cute decor inside and very friendly helpful staff. Thank you!

Crab cakes

My friend and I stopped by here on a weekday afternoon to grab some food for takeout. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived and only had one other patron sitting there. The restaurant itself was a bit grimy looking but they were decorating the window for Christmas. The waitress at the front was friendly and took our order quickly. After we paid, she gave us a beeper that let us know when our food was ready. We then went to picked it up from the take out window to the side of the restaurant. Our food came out pretty quickly and we split two entrees: CRAB CAKES: The crab cakes were quite disappointing. They were completely burnt and all it just tasted like blackened butter. The "slaw" to the side was also of poor quality. (1/5) FISH AND CHIPS: The fish quality was nice and it was well fried; however, it was pretty bland. The tartar sauce it was served with did help. The fries on the other hand were so heavily covered with garlic that the smell was overpowering. It caused our car to smell like garlic during our whole road trip that day. (3/5) All in all, an ok establishment. Their take out window concept was my favorite part.

This restaurant serves some of the best food in Gold Beach. It's definitely a locavore establishment, featuring local seafood and local produce. I'm going to lead with something you don't typically see in a review. The SALAD! All fresh local greens that were delicate and flavorful. You can NOT get this quality of greens in most stores. It was a true delight. The Fisherman's Melt, with Tillamook cheese and local albacore tuna and pesto served on a Rosemary Focacia that was pillowy soft on the inside and with bodaciously buttery, crispy goodness on the outside was outstanding. By the way, if you are visiting the Oregon Coast, a trip up to Tillamook Creamery is worth a side trip all by itself. The clam chowder was creamy and thick, and definitely appeared homemade because the potatoes were not of uniform size. If you are a fan of bacon, this chowder is for you. I'm more of a purist when it comes to clam chowder. I am not a fan of all that bacon and all that smoke. They offer a selection of Oregon Beer and Wine, along with ciders. I tried the loganberry cider and it was good; a nice combination of sweet and sour. Their garnish and plating game is also on point. Dishes look beautiful, fresh parsley sprinkled on the chowder and parsley and a nice lemon wedge on the Fishermen's melt. There is local ocean-themed art for sale here, too. Service was friendly and efficient, considering how packed this place always is. The only downside is sometimes there's a wait. And that's because it's so popular.

Beet'N Goat Grilled Cheese
Jim D.

Loved it. Both seating and service were prompt. The waiter was friendly and fun. Interior was attractive, but we sat outside. I had the Beet'N Goat Grilled Cheese. Roasted golden beets and goat cheese on grilled sourdough. I'd never heard or thought of such a thing, so I had to try it. Delicious. We tried to go back the next night, but at that moment in July they were closed on Sundays due to lack of staffing.

Cioppino with crab and toasted focaccia
Gab B.

Interesting local place with friendly staff. We had a decadent cioppino with crab (and toasted focaccia for dipping), as well as, chunky clam chowder, battered fish sandwich with pesto and delicious sweet potato fries with a zesty aioli. Everything was amazing!

I got a beer and the fish open face sandwich with sweet potato fries. The fries were nothing special. I think the sandwich would be great with the option to change the cheese type. I would love to try it with swiss cheese. The sandwich was good and tasted fresh very little seasoning so you really got to taste the fish and it was yummy. Nice big bathroom that was clean. Upon arriving the parking lot everything smelled pretty good, which was great. We checked in and waited over 30 minutes to be seated, busy night no reservation totally understandable. Once seated we sat there for almost another 40 minutes before a waitress would even look our way. I understand things get busy but walking past a table that has been waiting without even an acknowledgment, offer for a drink, or even a comment of "we'll be right with you" was definitely disappointing. Like I mentioned earlier, I usually love supporting small restaurants. And the food smelled good so we stayed waiting. We finally order our food, by then another half hour has passed before we get our food, which was overall underwhelming. I ordered a filet mignon which honestly seemed more like a sirloin. The crust and cook on it was good, although the flavor was lacking. I enjoyed their vegetables and mash potatoes far more than the steak itself. My partner ordered a prime rib whose only saving grace was the au jus it was served with. Overall, we felt very disappointed with the service. The food was okay but I personally wouldn't return considering the price point.

Shared with my husband because he liked the first bite of creamy goodness so much. I paid him back by eating some of his beans which had nice chunks of brisket in them. Only negative was I was not impressed with the biscuit. Hard on the bottom yet the top was falling apart. Flavor was fine. Lunch was definitely worth taking the long way up to Bandon. Our waitress seemed…read moreirritated with us from the start, and mind you all we had done was sit at the table she instructed us to sit at. For context, I've been a waitress on the coast for nearly 10 years, so I'm usually very mindful of not making a server's job harder, but this felt different. When we ordered, she came across as genuinely annoyed. Did she check on things like coffee? Yes, but with a look of annoyance that made the whole interaction uncomfortable. The food itself was mediocre at best. The gravy was meh, though the chicken fried steak was decent. The "hash browns," however, were not traditional hash browns, they were more like oven roasted potatoes smashed on the grill, which was disappointing if you're expecting the classic version. The pricing was another surprise. I work at a higher end restaurant, and their brunch prices are comparable to what we paid here, which says a lot, considering this is supposed to be a basic diner experience. When our food was dropped off, we were told the toast would be "just a minute." No problem, but when it finally arrived, it was completely cold, with unmelted "butter" that had little to no flavor. And as someone who grew up eating margarine and then transitioning to butter, I knew that this was margarine. My boyfriend who has never had margarine didn't understand why his butter didn't "taste like anything". Also worth noting, my partner ordered a side of sausage links, four small links for $9, yup your read that right, $9 dollars for a side of sausage. Overall, the service felt hostile with a fake mask, the food was mediocre, and the pricing didn't match the experience. As a person who was raised here on the coast and thought to "experience double d's diner again" since it has been a few years, I won't be returning.
