One of my favorite brunch/lunch spots. I am a big fan of their salads, fries among many other things. James always greets us with such great enthusiasm - whether we are picking up or dining in. Never had issues with them, been going here for about 4 years now. I work in downtown, and this spot is walking distance - THANKFULLY! Those hamburger's are to die for, the staff there was super polite, but it also has a sad memory. The person who recommended this place passed away from Cancer and I can no longer visit here anymore. I have driven by this location for over a year and finally tried it this week. The first day there was a 10 minute wait so we went elsewhere, the second try we scored a table and I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere here is very corporate...to be expected, we are downtown afterall. It is VERY loud and hard to hold a conversation. Prices are a little higher than I would expect/like to pay for lunch but every now and then I wouldn't mind splurging for this. Service was pretty efficient, the waitress was helpful in explaining the menu. The menu is not descriptive at all. You have to use a smart phone and a QR reader or ask the server what a menu item consists of. Very inefficient in my opinion and makes ordering a little difficult. The portion size here could feed an army. I even ordered the smaller version of the Lebanese Chicken Fattoush salad and I couldn't even finish half of it. My coworker ordered the Newport Chicken which was also tasty and HUGE. Every dish that came out of the kitchen looked yummy, I wanted to sample everything! Will come back but won't be in my weekly rotation as the prices just don't mesh with my wallet. read more

I have now tried out every Barnaby's location in Houston. (Do I get something for that?:) I love the consistency of Barnaby's. All of the locations have friendly staff and the food always comes out perfect. All of the menu items are incredible both in size and in taste. I recommend everything! At this location in particular, make sure you get there before or after the lunch crowd as it gets packed quick. read more

I have to write the review simply because I was really impressed with this place the very 1st time I came by... actually, twice. I was invited by co-workers who eat here at least 2-3 times per week. Well, I truly liked the food, the taste, the service, but, the last 2 times I've been there, even though the food and atmosphere is great (for a downtown rush hour, not too bad), but the waiter that served me (and my party) was not impressive at all... (sadly) and it has been the same waiter the last 2 times. The service he provided was really not up to par with the other waiters in the restaurant, who are very friendly, professional and pretty much accurate with their orders. This guy was none of those... it is understandable that waiters make mistakes when distributing checks, especially with larger parties (6 or more)... but this person confused 2 of the checks and kept part of the cash/change coming back to one of the persons; when she told him, he just said, "I'll bring it back", as if he already knew what had happened but never offered an apology. I am just reporting this incident because I really like the place and the food is delicious and filling, even just the appetizers. The potato fries are soooo wonderfully good. This place serves up an amazing lunch menu. You MUST order the fresh avocado dip. The 'cado is served up with fresh cilantro and tomatoes, minced garlic and seasoned to perfection. For my main meal I had the tuna burger and fries. The tuna was served rare with just the right amount of sear. The fries sealed the deal for me. Perfection. Oh and if you like to people watch this place has some of the prettiest people who eat here. read more

I was treated rudely when dining for lunch on Thursday, September 3rd. When walking in I was treated as if I was unwelcome even though we were seated. I would have preferred more friendly waiters as well. The food quality was only mediocre. I prefer fresher salads with lots of greens. read more

Went Saturday with the family and loved the service and food. I had the green eggs totally awesome and my mom had the buttermilk pancakes which reminded me of my grandmother's pancakes. Maybe top 5 worst places I've eaten at ever. Firstly, how the hell do you stop a brunch menu at 11... they obviously don't understand brunch. Secondly, waiter was really aloof and slow and just not very happy. Our food experience was fucking horrendous! I got undercooked chicken... hello food poisoning! I took my mother-in-law and her BFF for breakfast and they absolutely had a blast. Our waiter was very professional and most accommodating. I didn't get his name but he was right on time, every time. Our meals were hot and ready and the atmosphere is bright and cheery. People where in out, moving and shaking and the wait staff never missed a beat. I've been back several times and each time was during breakfast. It's one of my favorites when I'm on the go and have a busy day ahead of me. read more

Their brunch never fails. My go-to option is usually the green eggs x chicken sausage with a stack of red velvet pancakes. Only wish they were open early like Baby Barnaby's, but no complaints otherwise. Barnaby's was reasonably priced for downtown Houston. Their Strawberry Lemonade was my favorite part about lunch. Also had their carnitas torta which could have had a zingy-er sauce but was still delicious. My mom had the burger, which she said was amazing. Wasn't all that impressed. Went for a lunch date. Ordered the salmon which was seasoned well but over cooked. It came with a rice, quinoa and cranberry rice mixture which was overly sweet and had too many cranberries. I ordered the spinach side, it tasted like vinegar but the waitress told me they only put s&p, olive oil and lemons. But they did substitute the spinach for fries. My date ordered a medium steak and it was borderline well done, he didnt even finish it. Will give them another chance. read more

So glad to be the first reviewer of this wonderful addition to Market Square. Being the first customer to have walked into the restaurant, I was surprised with a 50 dollar bill folded in my napkin. Yep you heard me right, next time you open a folded napkin, take a good look and maybe you'll be lucky too :) All the workers were so pumped and happy on the first day, the mood was fantastic. Our waiter was very professional and provided such good service (extra sauce, separate pack of dressing for left over food, everything was done without us even asking), such a joy. Food portions were huge so it's good to share with people or be prepared to take left overs back to the office for the next day's lunch. My only minor complaint with Barnaby's is the menu is a bit lacking in creativity, but I guess that's the style of the intended food (i.e. sandwiches, burgers and other traditional fare), and everything is cooked to perfection. read more

Maybe the worst breakfast I have ever had! My daughter and I ordered the egg burrito, I had grits and she had potatoes. The burrito came in a thick wheat tortilla, I much prefer flour and thinner. The burrito had a lot of eggs, a few black beans, and some jack cheese. It had NO flavor at all. The grits were undercooked and runny. The potatoes, although served in a large quantity, were very greasy and flavorless. We basically ate 1/3 of the meal and left disappointed. read more

The manager Juan, for that reason alone, I will stop using them for corporate lunches. 1st I couldnt get ahold of the restaurant, no one was answering the phone, had to call Midtown location to call the Downtown manager. Then I get there for my lunch pick up, waited 30 minutes (15 minutes past my lunch conference time) to get the excuse that there wasnt any lettuce. Shouldnt he have told me that when I placed my order at 10:15am? The stock truck ended up showing up at 11:40am, in the dead middle of rush lunch hour. His attitude was abrupt, defensive and overall terrible. I told him I would call the owner, his reply "here let me call the owner myself" and he took out his phone. The service staff, very apologetic, the food was okay but if you go there, hope that this manager gets his location running better because if you have to deal with him, it will leave a bad taste in your mouth. read more

Ive been to Barnaby's before, but today is my first time at this location. Let me start by saying that I might be a little biased because I LOVE downtown. So, coming to a restaurant I already love that's located in downtown is double plus for me. I came around noon on a Saturday and they were still offering breakfast (I can eat breakfast at any time of the day.) The food is always fresh and very good. I wanted to have their bacon waffles but opted for Annie's Healthy Burrito because I had just come from a good workout. It was so good! I highly recommend this place. read more

My new favorite place in Houston! I was in Houston visiting family but also traveling solo. Since I am a "cafe" lover I decided to try out Barnaby's Cafe. This was not my original destination however my first choice was crowded and the menu was mediocre. I am glad I chose Barnaby's. The service was great, very easy. Sit wherever you want. The staff was nice and helpful in helping me make good food choices. I ordered the Green eggs and the RED VELVET PANCAKES. It was delicious. A great meal after yoga in Discovery Green park.
