    Sizzling Stone Bowl Bibimbap
    Sawako Y.

We came to Barn Joo to watch a World Cup game. It has a nice atmosphere with both a bar and dining areas, but I don't love the smell--maybe because I'm not a fan of kimchi. The service was great, though, and we enjoyed our food and drinks while watching the game. They have happy hour from 3-6pm, so we started with drinks and oysters. Afterwards, I had the Sizzling Stone Bowl Bibimbap ($26+) was smaller than I'd expected, but the Tofu and Mushroom was very tasty. If you're planning to come here, I highly recommend making a reservation. Because if you do, you can spin the wheel at the entrance for a free gift. We got a pack of kimchi--which my bf took home, because he loves kimchi.

A nice Korean spot in the heart of Union sq. Came on a weekend and was seated immediately since it was quite empty that day. We had the japchae and bimbimbap. Both were good but not crazy, kinda pricey for what it was as well since portion sizes weren't the biggest. The seating area downstairs was definitely decorated better than upstairs. Service, experience & food overall was good but I feel like there's definitely better Korean spots in the city (ktown).

I reserved a table for my partner and me to celebrate my partner's graduation from med school. Our host was very nice to congratulate us on our arrival. And little did we know that parties who reserved could spin a prize wheel! (We won a jar of pickles!) Food here was good! We shared a galbi jim and fisherman's stew. I wish the menu were updated, so that we weren't misled about the type of noodles that were included with the stew. (Menu mentioned knife-cut noodles, but we ended up with instant ramen.) Regardless, we thought the food tasted delicious!

    Happy Hour Dragon roll

Stopped in during a downpour for a quick happy hour drink, and it felt like we had the place almost to ourselves. Quiet, relaxed, and a nice break from the chaos outside. Their happy hour is definitely worth checking out--solid deals on both drinks and food. I ordered the baked dragon roll with a pint of Sapporo, and the combo really hit the spot. The roll was warm, flavorful, and nicely balanced, while the beer was crisp and refreshing. Service was friendly, but a bit slow to start. It took some time to flag someone down to place an order, though once we did, everything came out quickly. One odd moment--someone at the table next to us actually left without paying because no one checked on them for a while, which says a lot about the pacing. Overall, I'd still come back for happy hour if I'm in the area--great value, good food, just be ready to wave someone over.

I went for a quick lunch during the week. Great service and the place was not crowded. Great lunch specials. I had the bugolgi tacos (3) and it came with fries and a soda. I upgraded to their homemade hibiscus soda and the check came to about $25.

    Beef Combo

Overall, the food and service were solid. The ambiance is a fairly dim-lit space, great for conversations and group gatherings. The food was pretty tasty. The beef combo is good enough for 3 people, we had 4 so we ordered a few apps as well. The only problem I had was with the price. For how much you're paying, all the portions are tiny. They taste great, but that doesn't necessarily make up for the high cost to me. I would potentially come back again, but would only recommend for rare occasions or if you're not paying (like a corporate event or something)

Been visiting Barn Joo since 2018 and has always been my favorite spot. The food here is absolutely excellent, flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. Every dish we tried hit the mark. The wings (which my friends had ordered) according to them they were juicy, crispy, and coated in just the right amount of sauce. The shrimp tempura were plump with a great texture, and the Kimchi Creamy Shrimp were incredibly fresh and tasted so, so good. Service was top-tier. The atmosphere was lively with great music, friendly servers, and an overall warm, welcoming vibe. Dining here genuinely felt like being "up the hill" everything was a step above the rest. Highly recommend both the food and the service can't wait to come back!

    Tteok & Cheese

Visited this before a concert and were able to get in and out fairly quickly. (30 min) We got the Tteok and Cheese, which is almos like a corn chowder. Like an amazing corn chowder. I could drink it! The shrimp was a little salty but still decent. There were 10 pieces of shrimp, along with nice sauces and a really good corn side. We won the jar of kimchi from their prize wheel and it was great too

This is a very cute restaurant right by Union Square Park. Very innovative dedighnnindide. Came for lunch two weeks ago. We felt that the good was overpriced, the wait staff very friendly and helpful. The fried wontons were 3 small dumplings for $15, also had the sushi roll and the soup lunch platter which was $30 I think is more a spot for rich students to drink and have fun in a welcoming atmosphere, if you just want a good lunch there are Much better options.

The service was great :) everyone was friendly and attentive, which I really appreciated. The food, however, was just okay. The Korean fried chicken wings were overly breaded, and I've had much better KFC elsewhere. The Tiger Roll was just another fried item without much flavor, and the hibiscus lemonade tasted more like regular lemonade with a splash of grenadine... not what I expected. On the bright side, the truffle fries were really good !! They were fresh, crispy, and the side dips were tasty! Unfortunately, the chicken tacos were a total miss for me. Overall, happy hour prices are great, but the food itself isn't really something I'd come back for.

SO YUMMY MY FAVORITE KIMCHI CREAMY UDON IVE EVER HAD. Way better than izakaya mew from what I remember. First thing I ever had in NYC Dishes were presented so beautifully. Service was good. Inside restaurant was good. Tbh everything was pretty good. Every th ing else we got was also decent. Pork bulgogi was flavorful and decent portions. The sashimi bibimbap was probably the worst of the bunch but still good.

We went to Barn Joo for lunch, and both the food and the service were exceptional. The server discovered that my oldest daughter was celebrating her birthday that day and that we were visiting from out of town. He took the initiative to bring her a dessert and sang "Happy Birthday" to her along with his coworkers. I loved that little detail; it was unexpected and truly made her day. She felt so special! (And yes, the food was AMAZING!)

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.
