Perfect cool temperature day to take my kids dog to the doggy park (Barkham Park) inside Markham Park. After proving your rabies shots and pay a $5 fee you can enter the secure fenced in area to play for hours. Today, there were five other dogs close to our dog's size and just as active. They have three different size areas - Small - Baby - Big. A water fountain is available on premise. Parking is a few feet from the doggy park entrance. Most everyone here are very friendly and laughing while the dogs chase each other. You can chill in a pavilion under shade or hang out with your dog on the field. FYI don't be shocked if other dogs come and drink and slobber in your dog's water bowl. Great time here and recommend it for every dog owner. We're staying here for an hour then our dog will pass out from exhaustion. read more

Very simple process at this dog park in Markham Park. Pay a yearly fee of $25.00 and show proof of up to date vaccine shots and doggy tag. Enter the park, make a left and the doggy park is on your right. They have three separate gated sections based on the size of your dog. Small Medium Large. My eight pound dog had a blast chasing slightly bigger dogs. It was very hot so they provide a hose to fill a doggy bowl with water. After fluiding up he ran again and then passed out from exhaustion. Not much shade so be prepared. Most of the other doggy parents are considerate and clean up after their dogs and dispose properly. Great dog park in beautiful Markham. Maintenance is great, there is plenty of space for bigger dogs (35lb +) to run and chill. The two small dog areas seem a bit small. The trick is how to get in. There is no sign explicitly stating that a pass ($26) is needed but the office is right next to the dog area. They are open until 5:30pm and there is a restroom in that building as well - in the office, not accessible after hours. The entry gate is on the right. I'm going to have to check if they have surveillance cameras recording the area though since I feel as if some people are getting in without getting their dogs registered (for proof of medical records). Decent amount of people bring their dogs here without it getting crowded. You'll see some poop left on the ground like any other park, but I just chalk it up as owners sometimes not noticing their dogs' "activity" while looking away for a bit. read more

Hi! This is Lola and I have hijacked Gary F's account. He is the human who lives with me! Gary (aka Daddy) has been bringing me to Barkham at Markham every weekend since I was a puppy (I am 9 now!). I love this place! It is a big, open space with plenty of room for me and my friends to run around, chase balls, sniff butts, rough house or just hang out on top of the tables with all the other people. Daddy doesn't like the idea of having to pay a membership fee, but he also says it help keep out a lot of the undesirable people with the mean and nasty dogs. He is also happy that they finally fixed the card reader and people can't just come without paying. We only live right up the street from the park, so the fee is cheaper than the gas for the car to drive to a free dog park. There is one thing I miss here. When I was a younger dog they use to have little swimming pools for me and my friends to splash around in. It was especially nice on those hot summer days. Now they are not allowed because some butt head owner complained they his dog got sick from the Park, that's just poo! So they told us the health department (which doesn't have enough time to inspect restaurants, but has plenty of time for dog parks) said it was the pools and sharing water bowls that caused the dog to get sick. My husband has been taking our dog to Barkham for 8 years and over those years, there have been changes...both positive and negative. Lola (our dog) was not happy when they outlawed the little pools...especially in the summer when it is super hot. To get into the dog park you have to have a special pass...in addition to the park entry fee you pay on the weekends. Some people play by the rules, some don't. The parking is horrible since the cyclists who come very early in the morning (before the park starts charging and before the dog park opens) take up all of the parking and the park does nothing. If we need to pay to use the dog park, then the parking should be dedicated for the dog park use only. The dogs play nicer together than the humans. Tip: ladies, don't leave your purses in the car! read more

I used to go here years ago all the time with multiple dogs. It was wonderful back then. Yesterday though I tried to go back with my 2 puppies and I was sent away. At first they told me I needed to buy a park pass in order to use the premises at all for $26. I agreed and started heading over to the park office to get it. The park manager at that points runs over to me even though I was on my way to the building he works in. At this point he starts asking me all sorts of questions about my puppy and then proceeds to tell me we are not allowed on the property... a public park. I was pretty offended, so I left. I will most likely never return after this. I live in North Miami and the only reason I cam to this park specifically was for the nostalgia. I highly suggest using Happy Tails park over this one. Many more dogs and no park pass/ silly employees. Neither of my 2 breeds are aggressive breeds, so I'm just still super confused as to what the issue truly was. read more

This was my favorite park until they started targeting certain breeds. I judge by friendliness not breed. I have come across aggressive dogs regardless of breed, aggressive labs, goldens, etc. I have a adopted mix pit. And can no longer go here. This is the dog park located inside of Markham Park. On the weekends you will have to pay $1.50 to enter Markham Park. Like most dog parks these days you must prove current vaccinations for your dog in order to use the park. Gone are the days when you could just walk into a dog park with your dog. Requiring more scrutiny is a bit of a pain but necessary to keep everyone safe. In order to use the dog park you must stop by the main office and purchase either yearly pass for $25 or a day pass for $5. The large and small dog areas are separate. Amenities include walking paths, Bermuda sod for an even playing surface, three shaded pavilions for humans, and separate water fountains for humans and their pups. The 3 acre area is fully fenced and double gated. The full list of rules that must be followed at the park are posted on the web site. Hello Yelpers...My name is Zoe. My parents brought me to this park a few days ago and man was it nice! You see, I haven't been to a dog park since we moved to Broward. But this...this was a tail waggin', butt sniffin' good time! They have two areas - one for small pups and one for the big dogs (like me). Huge open space with some obstacle courses. I don't do the obstacles, but that's not because I can't...It's because I like to see my daddy make a complete fool of himself trying to get me to do them. It's ok pop, those people aren't laughing AT you, they are laughing WITH you....ok, they are laughing at you. Now, the problem here is that there is POOP everywhere. That's not the parks fault because they have bags everywhere...some people just can't pick up after their children. I don't care, but my dad and mom get really upset when I go sniff it, or they step in it. I don't see the big deal! There is a walking trail all along the park that mom and dad walked while I followed behind. As we strolled I made a ton of new friends. All of my fellow pups were so nice! There is also a shower (multiple showers actually) where you can hose off or litterally use a shower head to clean up your dogs. I HATE THIS PART but since my mom and dad seemed so happy about it, I won't take off any stars. THANK GOD they didn't shower me there, but they did shower me when I got home....way to ruin the day! Absolutely the best dog park in Broward County!!! I went to this dog park with my mom and my tail was a waggin. Can you imagine three acres of fenced in area for me to run and play with friends? They have separate areas for large and small dogs. I'm in the middle so we started in the small dog area to be safe. Wow, the only dog park with perfectly kept Bermuda sod!!! It made for a smooth and even grassy play area. I got tossed a few toys and started running about. Mom doesn't like too much sun so she sat under one of the shelters with benches. Once in a while she would walk on the wide cement paths to check on me. I didn't really need her as the dogs that hang out here are super friendly and have great owners. After a while I was thirsty so we went to the dog fountain and mom had some water from the human fountain too. I was worn out after a couple of hours so we headed home but I kept looking back all the way to the car, wondering when can we come back? Huh mom? (located inside Markham Park) read more

Wow guys, this place trumps Happy Tails as my new favorite park-and that says a lot for me, since my mom has been taking me there almost every day since I was a little pup! Mom took me here right as soon as the office was about to close one day, we almost drove out here for nothing that day! The first time you visit you have to have your shot record or rabies certificate otherwise you can't play! They only want healthy pups here. I like that a lot so that I know nobody here will be sick. Also there are no little baby pups allowed here either, so nobody has to worry that they're picking on the puppies who are really too small to play or don't have all their shots! This park has a big pup and a little pup side too (I can fit in both sides since I'm 18 lbs) but I like that the little side is bigger with more toys than at Happy Tails, because there the small dog section is tiny and only has a little room to run around. If you're really really small and don't want to be bothered by big pups but want to play on the toys, you're stuck between a paw and a hard place. Boo. Mama loves that the puppy water fountains here are nowhere near the dirt so there isn't a mud puddle being made. I don't like that because i LOVE playing in mud because it cools me off! There's a hose in case any pups need a bath anyway. It's always fun to chase birds that are flying around the lake in the background too. This park is smaller in general but I like it so far. Mom has to make sure to keep the keycard in her purse or we will be in trouble and can't get in. We paid $25 to come all year which is awesome because then I can come play all the time! It's a farther drive than Happy Tails but it's not on University so we don't sit in stupid traffic after mom gets back from work-so we get there faster anyway! Plus I love going fast in the car! But mom doesn't like paying for herself to get into the park on the weekend so we may keep going to Plantation on the weekends. Okay that's fair. I still want to keep my friends there. Barkham at Markham is definitely the best doggie park in the county. I used to live in West Davie, and my Bear and I frequented barkham's huuuuge park because of the huge diversity of dogs and the crazy amount of space. It's really clean and well maintained and has agility courses and doggie pools and separate parks for the big pups and the little pooches. These days Bear and I frequent the dog park in Hollywood, but even now I make the trek to Markham just to enjoy the view and relax while my collie races about. read more

This dog park is huge. Our dog weighs about 60lbs so we take her to the large dog area. If you have a smaller dog(s), there is a small dog area which is still quite large. There are several agility stations in both the large dog area and small dog area. The grass is always nicely mowed. My only complaint is regarding the people who do not pick up after their dogs. There are plenty of stations around the premises with poop bags. If you want to give your dog a bath, go ahead. There is an area set aside for that - it has a couple of shower heads and a hose. My wife and I have not bathed our dog at the park yet. It might be a good idea since Emily can air dry after we bathe her. Entrance to the park is free Monday thru Friday. It will cost $1.50 per person to gain entry on weekends and holidays. Park hours are from 08:00 to 19:30 daily. read more

We like Barkham at Markham! Our dog is 70 lbs and she loves to run around and play with the others. We bring a ball to toss around too. There's a separate area for the small dogs. Sometimes there are a lot of dogs, sometimes there aren't but it's big enough that I don't think it could feel crowded. The kids can come along too and meet lots of dogs, or chase our own. Also, the hoses make it great to hose down our slobbery pooch, cool her down or rinse her (occasionally) muddy paws before we head home. We have a family Broward Parks Passport, which is paid for annually, $60 (good for up to six people per vehicle), and so we don't have to pay the $1.50 per person on the weekends. read more

This is a great park for dogs of all sizes! They have one section for smaller dogs and a big section for the bigger dogs. I have a chihuahua that weighs around 5 pounds, so we took her to the small dog section. They have water fountains and little obstacles for a them, so cute! Love this place!! You have to pay to enter the dog park and on Saturday and Sunday you have to pay to entered the park itself but it's so worth it!! I go to the large dog park and Aggressive breeds aren't allowed. I love this place bc it's clean, and the dogs are very very friendly. The owners are nice and the vibe here is just comfortable!! Downside is some owners don't pick up the poop bc they seem to be talking to much to other owners but that's about it! Me and my little boy are very happy to have found this place. We go every morning and every evening. Like other dog park, dog fights do happen. But in this park the owners step in and remove their dogs. My pup has been attacked a couple of times due to his high energy BUT the owners always step in and help remove the dog before any injury can occur and whoever's dog is at fault they leave for the sake of the whole park. There's cameras in the park and you must have a card to enter so it keeps out those weird people who come in to dog parks WITHOUT a dog..... honestly I love this place and I'm happy my baby boy does too!! read more

And I shouldn't say annual because I am not 100% that it is yearly. But all the people that go and very friendly and respectful. I've been coming to this park for years and so far think it's the best one I've been to. You're never going to find a perfect dog park but because of the key/membership requirement, I believe a lot of the careless people get weeded out for not wanting to shell out the $25. Knowing that the fellow dogs are up to date with their vaccines is worth the $25 alone. The only thing that drives me nuts is the fact that a lot of the people that go there don't like other dogs socializing with theirs whether it's playing or even just sniffing.. it's a bit strange and makes the pups uneasy. read more

SECOND TIME I've had to leave because of aggressive behaviors from other large dogs whose owners do not intervene. These owners are either oblivious because they are too busy socializing, or they see their dog's growling and nipping as "just playing." This is not acceptable. My dog loves this park and it's beautifully maintained! I also appreciate that they don't just let anyone in with their dogs who aren't vaccinated. It is true that it's $25/yr or $5/day, but honestly it's worth it, even if you just come once a week. People complain about the price, but these are probably the same people who spend more than $25/week on coffee. But hey, everyone has their own priorities. So if you dog likes to socialize and needs to burn off some energy then this is the place to come! However, as with children, not all dog parents watch their dogs and other hover like helicopters. It all depends on their doggy parenting style, just don't be upset when your pup gets hurt because you weren't paying attention. Then there are those people bring their 8lb chihuahua into the 25lb and up dog area, maybe they can't read numbers, or maybe they think their chihuahua can hang with the big dogs. Either way, you can't control other people, or their dogs. So just enjoy a beautiful day at the park with your dog and pick up their little presents if need be. read more

By far the best dog park I have been to in south Florida. It's free entry during the week and $1.50 on the weekends/holidays. The accommodations are awesome, providing two separate areas for large and small dogs, water fountains, a hose, benches, trees, and training obstacles. The requirements and fees for the use of other parks inside Markham should be known by guests BEFORE they spend money to come inside. The dog park is inaccessible unless you go to the office next to the dog park to get a "pass" which is basically the equivalent of enrolling your child in school with the shot records, tags with certain dates (because even if the vaccinations are valid, the tags have to say the current year, one of our dogs was vaccinated in the fall, her tags say 2016 so she wasn't going to be allowed in since it's 2017 now, what a joke), plus extra fees.... We would have appreciated being told the fact that the dog park isn't really one you can use just because you came to Markham, it's a seperate entity with a literally 6 foot list if guidelines outside the locked gate. I can't help but wonder how many more people have paid to get access to what they think will be an hour or so at the dog park, only to turn around two minutes later when they realized they have to go home to collect paperwork and proof of things if they want to return. Lol how many times did the guy at the gate take money from people with a barking dog in the car, watch them make a left at the dog park sign, and see them leave again five minutes later, dog still barking in the car.... I'm not happy at all. No wonder on a Saturday afternoon there were only two dogs in the entire enclosure. I will never return to this park. read more

Bark tastic! Our medium sized dog loved it! Super clean and plenty of room for your dog to run and play off the leash! It's all fenced in so you don't have to worry about any run away pups! There is a 25$ annual fee for the dog park and to get into the park it is free unless it is a weekend or holiday then it is 1.50$ per person, you can also get a 25$ pass that allows you to go to any park in Broward county for a year. Overall the 50$ to have access to the dog park and the park in general any day of the year isn't bad for a year of lots of woofs and wags of happiness. read more

One of the better dog parks in all of South Florida. I will advise you. If you want to come here it will cost you. You must register your dog in the front office and make payment of $25 dollars for yearly entry to the park, it's a one time fee. They want to make sure all the dogs here have there shots and are registered. We all know our furry friends sometimes don't make nice right away so just in case something happens you know that your buddy wasn't in harms way it was simply an accident. They also want to make sure all animals are registered and don't have any allergies or can be sick. You want your pup to be safe and know the others are safe to play with as well. You get a card key that you slide in for entry, kind of like what you have in an office to open the doors or elevators. The park is pretty big. They have a large area for the bigger dogs and a smaller one for the small pups. Plenty of obstacle courses for them to play with and of course lots of grass for them to run and have fun. They have water fountains so your pup and drink water and doggy bags so you can clean up after them if they have to do the do. I would certainly recommend this park. read more

This dog park is incredible and a three minute drive from my home here. I'm down from the Boston area every year where frankly, dog parks are an afterthought. To find three acres of fenced in land, complete with fountains, picnic tables, hoses, agility pieces makes me and Sashi ecstatic! Didn't mind paying the annual fee and honestly don't mind the additional $1.50 for weekends because the return is so huge. The fee gets you an electronic key card and the guarantee that the dogs your dog is playing with are all up to date on their shots. Win Win! read more

This used to be an awesome dog park that you could bring your dogs to and let run around in and go home. The park now requires that you have a daily pass or an annual pass and it is pretty busy even on weekdays. You're better off checking out any of the free ones. Vaccinations are a nice thing to have, but realistically you and your dog still have the risk of getting fleas, ticks, and worms if other owners choose not to treat their dogs. They also do not allow puppies under 4 months of age to enter the park for health reasons. While normally I would agree with this, that is a crucial stage in socializing a puppy and therefore I believe there should either be a puppy quarantine section or a meeting group for puppies off site. When I asked if they had a board where I could post information about myself, I was told that that was not allowed and any signs would be thrown away. Sure the other parks may not be free range, but at least they make sense. I'm glad I didn't bring my dog with me because I would have had to drive home to pick up his vaccination paperwork. In general for what they charge per day it just doesn't seem worth it to me. read more
