Dry Aged Duck 9/30/26
Jim P.

Finally had a chance to get in and try Bare Bones Wednesday night and it was worth the wait. It's nice to have a specialty dinner restaurant in town with an excellent Chef putting on a show for you. This is a small restaurant (seats +\~ 30) with table service and a counter with about six seats where you can watch Jarrod and his crew create appetizers to desserts and everything in between. I highly recommend reservations especially on parties of four or more. We did not have reservations but showed up promptly at 5pm so we got a spot at the counter (actually my preferred seat) We had the following Appetizers: -Hamachi with Blood orange ponzu, Jalapeño, and micro greens -Bao Buns with Pastrami, honey, mustard, vina, and a bowl of Shishito peppers -Grilled Octopus Leg with Soy and Cilantro Aioli All were excellent. The Octopus had just the right amount of Char! We then split the Caesar Salad and opted to add the Pastrami. It also had rye bread, crumbles, and Parmesan cheese. This was a first with pastrami on my Caesar Salad, but surprisingly was very good. Entrees: -Dry Aged Duck with parsnip purée, burnt onions, Maitake Mushrooms, spiced honey glaze, red beets and fennel. The glaze was perfect and this dish was full of so many amazing flavors. -Sable Fish marinated in Miso Butter, served in Ramen broth, assorted mushrooms, fennel with a side of rice. This fish is just amazing. Highly recommend. Dessert: Crème brûlée- with apple butter, caramelized apples and a shortbread crumble. This is not your average crème brûlée. This is next level amazing. We were too full for the Bread Pudding, but I will try next time along with the Ribeye that looked amazing. I watched quite a few grilled up in front of me for other patrons. Check out all my pics! We really enjoyed our dinning experience at Bare Bones. I highly recommend and don't forget the reservations. Cheers!

Great new spot in Pismo Beach! The food was excellent, and you can tell there's a really talented chef Jarod knows what he's doing. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. I'll be back! I highly recommend sitting at the cooks table for the ultimate experience.

Now I get what the hype is about. Had a delicious dinner at Bare Bones tonight. My wife and I shared a Caesar salad, the pork chop and a crème brûlée. The Caesar dressing was perfect. The pork chop was 2" thick, super tender and juicy with great flavor. The crème brûlée was a treat. The service was friendly and the small restaurant has a nice vibe. We sat at the counter and watched the chefs do their magic. We will be back!

Bare Bones Eatery was recommended to me by a close friend because I wanted to take myself out for a nice birthday dinner. I loved the open kitchen concept! Everyone from host, server, to chef was so kind and accommodating. Chef Jared is amazing! Posted are the dishes I experienced and the menu for the night, but I am definitely going to have to go back for the ribeye, Caesar salad, bao buns, and creme brûlée! Thank you Jared and Rachel for such a wonderful meal experience!

The food was great! Service was spectacular! I definitely recommend coming here. The chef is very nice and also used to be the chef at the Oyster Loft. I really enjoyed the bao buns with pastrami, grilled onions and a mustard sauce. The steak frites with teriyaki and sesame seed sauce was also very yummy. The Caesar salad came loaded with fresh shredded Parmesan cheese and it was not over dressed with Caesar dressing. Our waiter was very nice. The ambiance looked very clean and upscale. The place looks 100 times better than when it was a poke restaurant. You can watch the chef and cook while they are making your plates if you sit at the bar.

Great food with a great environment. I especially enjoyed their Octopus and Creme Brulee. Those two are a must try!

Just a short walk from the Pismo Beach Pier. The staff was great, had Misa as our waitress. I think she could tell we weren't locals so she made some recommendations which were great, offered up some directions to other near by destinations and just had all around great customer service. The food tasted great, bbq sauce for our fries and onion rings was recommended and I believe she said it was made in house, a spot on recommendation. If we're ever in the area we'll for sure be swinging by for lunch again.

Ambience was nice, I enjoyed the rodeo events on the tv, I'm a barrel racer and rodeo attendee as well so that was fun to see. Waitress was very nice, I don't remember her name but she had cool tattoos and orange hair, she was bringing us refills without us having to ask, and the service was extremely quick. We were a party of 6 and our food came out in less than 10 minutes, even though the restaurant was pretty busy. I enjoyed the open windows so fresh air could flow in and out as well. As for food, I ordered the hula chicken sticks and a side of white rice. Omg. Sooooo yummy!!!! both my entree and side were piping hot and perfectly fresh. Chicken was cooked thoroughly and was very tasty alongside the pineapple. White rice was perfectly cooked as well. We will definitely come back here next time we drive up to Pismo! I also very much enjoyed seeing what was gluten free on the menu, and the gluten free substitution was amazing. I'm so glad to see representation and inclusivity like this. My sister also enjoyed the dairy free options. Overall we went home with a peace of mind. None of us got sick!

An Unforgettable Birthday Dinner with Breathtaking Ocean Views!…read more We came to Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach for a Sunday night dinner date to celebrate my wife's birthday. This place definitely gets packed, so I highly recommend reserving a table in advance. We were lucky enough to get a window seat, and the outdoor patio views of the ocean are simply amazing! On top of that, the staff here has definitely become even more friendly--our server, Zach, was super efficient and attentive throughout our meal. The food was incredible from start to finish: * Mahi Mahi Fish Ceviche: We started with this alongside fresh tortilla chips, and it was honestly one of the best ceviches we've ever had. * Clam Chowder Soup: This special clam chowder came served with Parmesan cheese bread, which was absolute perfection. Again, hands down one of the best soups we've tasted! * Molcajete Surtido: For our main dish, we ordered this classic feast loaded with grilled colossal shrimp, arrachera steak, chicken breast, chorizo, spring onion, jalapeño peppers, nopalitos, avocado, pork rinds, molcajete salsa, queso fresco, and corn tortillas, served with a side of rice and beans. All the meats were so tender and flavorful, and the rice and beans were really nice. We were so full that we didn't even get to touch the tortillas! To top off a wonderful evening, they brought out a complimentary ice cream with a candle to celebrate my wife's birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet touch. Whether you're planning a special date night or a family outing, we definitely recommend Ventana Grill!

There was a wedding on the patio, which was fun to witness from our booth and plenty of activity from the ocean life we could view. Overall, a delightful experience!

They have many seafood options besides the buckets. DJ was so accommodating throughout our meal. We dined early around 5pm, but if you go during peak hours, lunch or dinner you may have a wait. They do not take reservations. They are moderately priced and portions are good. For a fun beach y experience definitely drop in for a meal.

Since the weather was gorgeous and we had our dog with us, we chose to sit outside. Street parking can be a bit tight due to beachgoers and nearby shops. Their menu covers breakfast, burgers, tacos, fish & chips, salads, soups, and hot or cold sandwiches, plus beer and cocktails. We ordered the 'Cuban Sandwich' (hot pulled pork, ham, provolone, mustard, mayo, and pickles on a perfectly toasted, soft French roll) and the 'Turkey Sandwich' (cold). Both came with curly fries and were fresh and yummy. Personally, I prefer chips over fries with a cold sandwich, but the food was still excellent. Customer service was top-notch. The people have always been friendly and patience, I'm sure I stood in front of the big menu a few times, and they were always very gracious and kind.
