I ordered my usual eggs/toast/homefries/spicy sausage-- the potatoes were alright, a bit too bland I could taste the starch in them; the spicy sausage was a large patty & it was delish! Barb's is a staple in the community. Is the food high quality and an elite culinary experience? No, but it's diner food and it's best to temper expectations before you go. Everything here is solid comfort food that you can rely on to be good and satisfying and leave you happy and full. I often like to try the specials and this time got apple cinnamon French toast. It was like eating apple pie after thanksgiving. The French toast was dusted and toasted with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar and overall it was delicious. The servers here are really sweet and definitely are working super hard. It seems that they're a bit understaffed at the moment and therefore a bit overstretched in terms of what they're able to do. Ok yum. I have come to Barb's on and off in all of the 14 years that I have lived in Erie. So I already knew that it was delicious but I made an date with my friend who had never been here and let me tell you she had a blast! We got there and got seated right away. But it got full fast! So try to get there early before the rush if you want any of the booths or low top tables. The menu is simple in that it's just printed on some computer paper and staples together. Nothing fancy but it works! They do have daily specials and they wi be written in the chalkboard near the kitchen. Do not miss looking for them, sometimes I do miss looking and I missed the pineapple upside down pancakes!! Booo! But I'll be ok. So this time I got the hashbrowns, eggs, and biscuits with sausage gravy. Honestly, I'm not that big of a gravy fan but I was in the mood for something different. And these were great! The biscuits were fluffy, the gravy was not thick or gross, and the eggs were fluffy. Now, I'm a big fan of hashbrowns, home fries, potatoes and I always ALWAYS ask for them to be crispy and they never really are. UNTIL NOW. I've been here once before and really enjoyed it, however, I came with my family on New Year's day and was highly disappointed. The food was entirely different from my last experience. My partner and dad ordered something that stated it would come with 3 eggs, they both received two, I never received the toast apart of my meal, and our food was cold. As a middle school teacher, I'm attending a weeklong Robotics workshop with Carnegie Mellon, and wanted to find a good breakfast place before our last day of instruction. Barb's Corner Kitchen was perfect! As others have commented, just go in and sit anywhere. I had the corn beef hash special, with onions and peppers on the home fries. Perfectly cooked and delicious. I would recommend this place if you like diners and want to grab a good breakfast! They also serve their lunch menu all day. I appreciated all the photos of local veterans from different branches of service. Lots of stories on that wall... Apparently "Frank's RedHot Original" is the local Tabasco sauce here in Pittsburgh. Came here for breakfast before heading to the Pittsburgh zoo and it was an interesting experience. You seat yourself and that was quick. We brought our daughter and I will say it took awhile to get her a highchair. The menu has several options to choose from all at great prices. Wait time for food wasn't bad, but I felt like it was lacking a tad in the flavor department. I've been to diners before so I know what to expect but I felt Like I got my hopes up and I was let down. It took me about 20 years to actually get to Barb's. It's on the corner. It's only open until about 2pm and it doesn't look open a lot of times. We'd always pass it, but it'd be when it was closed and we never ended up going there. It's a small, old-school diner. I wasn't the biggest fan of it. It's very average all across the board. My pancakes weren't made right and were crumbling when touched. They buttered the toast without asking and I don't like my toast with butter. The sausage was maybe the best part of it, but it wasn't anything super memorable. We live in Lawrenceville and have been coming here for years. It's always been a simple breakfast dinner. However, it hurts to post this, but things have consistently tended downward. We usually stop on weekends before Steeler games and have found that it's not a good option anymore. The time has become unbearable. From the time you sit down, to the time you order is excessive. However, the time it takes to get your food is even longer. We sat down it 10:30 AM watch this people who came in after us ordered until our waitress finally took our order 20 minutes after sitting down. Then we waited 50 minutes for one omelette, one veggie wrap and one breakfast sandwich, only to have the sandwich made incorrectly and the home fries cold. I wish I could say it was uncharacteristically busy or they were short staffed as a reason why things took so long, but neither was the case. Normally I wouldn't be too worried, but this has been our consistent experience the last 10 or 12 visits over the past couple months. read more

Decided to stop here quick before a trip to the zoo seeing that a few reviews said it was a fairly quick stop...it was anything but quick. We sat and ordered a coffee and orange juice. Got the orange juice but coffee never came...had to ask again when the girl came to take our food order to finally get it. We sat around for about 45 minutes or so with 3 other groups of people coming in between that time and ordering their food. That was, without question, the worst coffee I've ever had in my entire life. It tasted like sink water that sat overnight.

I had always seen this place walking to my place but never went to it until now. I had only ever seen the corner dinning room through the windows as I walked by and thought to my self it was a little rough. However, when I first walked in I had to take a step back and check that I was in the right place. Apparently, there are two dinning areas an the main dinning area is super cute and cozy. I do have to say though, it was a little bit confusing to figure out if we had to wait for seating or if we could just sit anywhere. Answer: you can sit anywhere. Perhaps this is something that could be addressed by a sign or a server just shouting "welcome! Sit anywhere you like!" Especially considering that one guest, already having coffee, had to be moved because he sitting in a four person table when a party of four arrived. Everyone is super polite and friendly though and the guest didn't seemed bothered but it was an observation that I though was worth mentioning. Our waiter acknowledged us fast, asked what we where drinking, served us coffee, and was very attentive to us and the rest of the busy dinning room. The kitchen was also very fast in making our food. This place is great if you want your traditional American breakfast at a low price. I will definitely be coming here again. read more

Not worth the money. I was charged separately for things that came with the special. When I saw the high bill I paid it but I asked to have a detailed receipt. It took them a while and they came back with one that was less money saying they took money off. They had the worst coffee I ever had and the toast came 15 minutes after my meal came. I don't know what they do with the money they make because the place is a dump. Definitely old school Lawrenceville, a good place to get a reasonably priced breakfast with super friendly and attentive service. We went at 9:30 am on a Saturday, which is apparently the changing of the guard: every patron from that point on was hipster. There are excellent specials posted, but also plenty to choose from on the regular menu. I'm surprised at some of the bad reviewers on here! Every time we go the waitstaff has been fast, helpful, and down to earth. I very much like visiting Barb's corner kitchen. The meals are very big in size and you're not walk out of this place hungry. If you do this is your own fault. The pricing for the meals is pretty reasonable if you stick to the menu. A couple times we have made certain substitutions and has and up making the bill little more costly. The interior of the place is decorated to the tilt with the upcoming holiday. It's interesting to see how many decorations they have just for St. Patrick's day. When you get to Barb's there is no hostess just said yourself or one of the friendly staff will let you know to do so. This mid day cook, cooking breakfast, i must say, he needs to not be able to cook anything!!!! he has egg shell in the eggs, he burns the potato and the bacon i guess it depends on his mood. Barbs tastes like comfort food. I enjoyed the home fries, turkey sausage, and cheese eggs while I was there. I don't even like eggs but this was perfect hangover food. I never even noticed this spot but wandering in made quite the impression on me. It reminds me of a mom and pop diner from the past. This little restaurant intrigued me every time we went by it. Today we were going to a craft show next door and decided to eat there before we went. Barb's is a mix of vintage and modern-in a weird way. You can eat outside, on the "porch" (as I call it) or inside. We chose inside. We picked a small table against the wall. It was busy for a diner at 1pm. Our drink orders were taken quickly and we were brought water in these tumblers that looked like the mugs that bartenders use to make Mules. They definitely keep your drink cold. Then menu was big and they have four specials. I went for the Southern platter. It was eggs, home fries, biscuits, and sausage gravy. Our waitress was really nice and kept checking on us. It took a while to get our food but when they brought it, it looked and smelled wonderful. My eggs were almost soft scrambled and I prefer a more hard scrambled egg but when you eat them with gravy it doesn't really matter. LOL. The biscuits were a nice size and very soft. The home fries were really good. They had a little crispness around the edges but pillowy soft in the middle. The gravy? NAILED IT! I'm from the south so I know good sausage gravy. This was it! It wasn't too peppery. It was the perfect consistency. I had small bits of sausage in it. YUMMMMMM My hubby ordered the Ham BBQ. I tried it and call me crazy but the BBQ sauce had a pickle juice taste. Sometimes you taste vinegar but this seriously tasted like they had used pickle juice. My husband loved it. I wasn't a huge fan and I love pickles. The fries were fresh cut and the coleslaw was a hit. We are adding it to our small selection of breakfast places. read more

Today, we've learned something new about food. We never know that one waffle can take an hour to make. It is amazingly awesome to have one of the longest-wait pancake in an entire world. What surprised me more was the taste! It was so bland. Ooohhhh...we also found a bug in the syrup that they gave us (please see the photos below). Who doesn't want protein in their waffle!? 1st time coming here and we decided to go for breakfast. Walked in and the place is nice and cozy, grabbed a table and was ignored for ten minutes, no coffee or menu. On top of that there were two groups who came in after us and had immediate service, this tells me our waitress's flat out sucks. They had 5 servers on a space where 2 would knock it no issue so there is zero excuse for poor service. Our waitress gave my girl an omelette instead of a skillet which they spent 3 minutes talking about the skillet and my girl saying yes she wants that, smh. Price is too high for low quality breakfast food, 2 people 30 bucks where I can go other places in the burgh for better service, pricing and food. I had a difficult time deciding what to order until I saw the lunch special at another table: hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Our waitress told me the roast beef had just come out of the oven and it was even better than I dreamed it would be. And with the mashed and that gravy? Bullseye. I like this place for breakfast sandwiches or a quick bite, diner style. However, they apparently close before their advertised time. I came in today and sat down for a quick coffee and sandwich as I sometimes do around 2:30 and the lady, somewhat loud and in front of other diners, asked me how I got into the restaurant. To which I replied "through the front door." She said she thought she locked it and told me they were closed.
