I struggled between one and two stars only because there are aspects of the product that are OK. .But the company, as a whole, should be avoided This review is more about the people than the product. People make cabinets and to that extent, their people are OK. (Truth be told, people run the machines that make the cabinets and the machines seem to work...) But Barbosa's problem is how their people interact with customers. Those interactions are painful, slow and ultimately frustrating. Luckily, I was insulated from their "people" through a kitchen designer, but she told me of the apparent chaos in which Barbosa's people seems to exist. This resulted in late delivery of shop drawings, poor design for custom shelves. She could rarely get anyone on the phone, they were slow to respond to emails. Bottom line -- it resulted in an unpleasant experience for the customer. People also make business decisions that effect their customers. And this is where I have my biggest beef with Barbosa. This is where Barbosa's lack of empathy and concern for the best interests of the customer should (and hopefullly, will) impact their business long term. Those custom shelves didn't come with any type of mounting hardware or instructions for installation. They were extremely heavy in their own right. And given they were intended as a place to store lots of dishes, stuff for cooking, they will need to support a lot of additional weight. All-in-all, an important element in the kitchen that absolutely had to be reliable and sturdy. And most of all, installed properly. Yet they left it up to the installer to decide how to install it. One wrong decision and the shelves come crashing down, potentially hurting someone. We pleaded with Barbosa to give us installation instructions. We reasoned it was their custom design... not just a standard cabinet. Yet they flat out refused. "We won't assume the liability," they said. "You're on your own", they implied. "If it fails, don't call us", was the take away for the customer. This is the attitude and myopic business policy that can ultimately result in injury and lawsuits. Had we known this was their business practice, we would have selected a different vendor. I've been calling and leaving messages for two weeks and have yet to receive a call back. Finally reached a person and she was able to let me know they were way to busy to help an existing customer. I purchased a house last year that Barbosa installed the cabinets in. I have a couple cabinets that I would like to have doors installed on. I have sent several emails and I have called multiple times. They are still in the neighborhood because they are installing cabinets in all of the new homes that are being built. I asked a couple of the guys that were working out here and they said to call the office. Trying to get a response from their main office completely sucks! Seriously guys, you already have men working on my block. How hard would it be for you to call me back and do this. read more

HORRIBLE customer service!!! and they don't honor their warranty! I have a crack in the countertop that they installed in my new home which is still under the 1 year warranty. I have been emailing back and forth and calling them for 3 months to take care of it and instead of telling me they weren't going to fix it, they decided to just not say anything to me. I contacted them again today and they just said to contact the home builder. All emails and phone calls were initiated by me. I would wait a week, and no updates, so I would have to contact them and now they are telling me that they are not going to fix it! read more

This is regarding customer service specifically as I did not purchase all the cabinets done on my kitchen. Sandra Ramirez did however go above and beyond the call of duty to help me replace just 3 doors I needed prior to selling my condo. These doors had laminate that was peeling due to a heating vent placed beneath them. Barbosa was on the hinge but they only supplied the builder in 2005 who installed them. The doors came from another supplier. Now 2020 Sandra was able to look back to who the builder was then and tracked down the door company. I sent her photos of the measurements and lo and behold she got just 3 doors for me for $200. Home Depot gave me a quote for $8,000 and required I changed all the doors and drawers. They wouldn't give me just 3 doors ! Sandra needs a pay raise of $7,800 that she saved me - LOL ! She could have easily given up and told me it wasn't possible but instead she persisted and got this difficult task accomplished for me. Sandra is the best ! read more

Don't even bother trying to ask them for paint so that you can paint other items in your home to match the cabinets, they will only sell you a can of spray paint for $25 that Mohawk paints sells for $7 read more

Unfortunately, we did not have a choice when it came to who would be installing our cabinets at our new home at Cedar Lane, Newark, CA. It was the home builder, KHOV. KHOV, in true form, must have found the lowest cost bidder to do the work. Like they say, you get what you pay for and KHOV found a bargain with Barbosa Cabinets in Tracy, CA. The work: After installation there were large area of touch-up work which looks like someone dipped a paper towel in a can of stain and smeared it on the cabinets. The surface is not smooth or blended well. One of the drawers did not close due to electrical conduit routed at the back of the cabinet. So the installer must have walked out to their truck and hacked off the rear of the drawer to shorten it. Then they cut notches in the frame of the drawer to clear the obstacles that don't actually align or provide clearance. After I moved in, I noticed that many of the drawers did not slide on the cheep ball-bearing slide rails used on the drawers. A repair person came out and replaced the rails, they slide better now. However, after two months, I am still finding ball-bearings about the kitchen and even down stairs. Per my experience, everything in the "About" section of Barbosa website is quite the opposite. read more

Ì have cabinets with Barbosa hinges throughout the house. The home was built about 13 years ago. One of the hinges on a cabinet under the bathroom sink broke and the door was hanging a bit cockeyed. I was busy with other things so i duck taped the door shut to protect the other hinge. These are not your ordinary cabinet hinges, they are a European style, "invisible" hinge thai does not show when the door is closed. I knew the manufacturer's name because each hinge had a small plate with their name on it. I tried finding a hardware store in the area that carried them - no such luck. So, I tried Yelp and got their customer service number. It turned out that this is a cabinet manufacturer, in Tracy, that specializes in manufacturing cabinets for companies that built housing tracts. Once I told them where I lived, the identified the builder of the home and transfered me to the service rep (Heidi) that handled that builder. The next day I had other business in Tracy so I stopped in at their factory on the day home. When I got to the Office, the called Heidi who brought two of the hinges out and the receptionist handled the sale. When I was searching for hinges at hardware stores I had seen similar hinges priced as high as $20-30. The pair I bought came to $5! read more

These cabinets were in the home that we purchased as a second owner, they are now close to 15 years old and still look and function amazing! We have upgraded the counters with their product and the service combined with the outstanding product will persuade me to always use this company for any cabinetry or countertop work needed in the future. read more

We bought a new build that used Barbosa for our granite. When we were doing the final walk through I noticed a huge chip in the granite that ended up falling off bc they decided to use some sort of putty to cover up their mistake. After going back and forth with the builder they finally said that they would replace the slab. It's been 5 weeks. They pushed back installing bc they had other installs they had to take care of- bc since they already had our money we obviously weren't a priority. They said the install would happen on 8/20. On 8/19 we called our builder to find out what time barbosa would be coming. When he contacted barbosa they said that they don't even have a piece of granite for us bc they couldn't color match. If we never called we would have been waiting for them to come and install!! I am almost to the point where I'm going to contact the BBB on them. It is truly unprofessional. Keeping it in perspective, I've had absolutely no issues with the cabinets they installed when the house was built back in '00 through Standard Pacific Homes. Cabinets look great and have survived 10+ years of use! But ...*trying* to become a 'repeat' customer of Barbosa cabinets with absolutely no luck. Emailed over a month ago and got no response. Called one time only to be put to voicemail. Called another time and actually spoke to a person who took some info but never called back with a follow-up. I called to get assistance with a part that they used on their kitchen cabinets, because it is an irregular size that I was not able to locate at Lowes, Home Depot, or Orchard Supply. I was told that because my cabinets are past the warranty they can't help me. I advised I'm willing pay for the part, I just need the part. She stated I'm sorry we can't sell you that part. They have the worst customer service as I've been trying to book them to purchase an kitchen island but they have not responded to my phone calls at all, just for an estimate. They worked on the cabinets at the building we moved into but they are pretty terrible on returning calls. I learned about Barbosa through the builder I purchased my house from. All my kitchen and linen cabinets were made by Barbosa. I wanted to upgrade my house a little so I contacted Barbosa and ordered a kitchen island with granite top from them. They did a great job adding it in. Installers came in and installed the finished product in my kitchen. It perfectly matched the rest of my kitchen. I also ordered laundry cabinets from them and that was amazing! read more

The builder of my home uses Barbosa cabinets in all their new construction homes. My kitchen cabinet doors, beneath the sink, had problems from the first month I was in the house. The stain kept coming off. Barbosa sent a tech out and he used a crayon and then a spray to "fix" the problem. He left me the crayon and spray for any future problems. I kept the builder appraised of how the cabinets looked. As time passed, the doors got so bad, I asked they be replaced as not only was the stain coming off but there were problems with the wood also. Because it was past the warranty, Barbosa refused to replace them even with the problem being identified so early. Due to this, the builder offered to pay for 2 new ones and I was told Barbosa REFUSED to sell them to them. I have never heard of a business refusing to "sell" a product before. The builder went out to a finisher and was told it was a very low grade finish that was used on the doors - thus, the problems. While there was no interaction between Barbosa and me - there was with the builder and Barbosa - too many times with this problem. Why the builder deals with such an unprofessional company is beyond me. All they have to do is look at the reviews. They sure speak volumes about this company. read more

I had Barbosa cabinets installed in my new home back in 2011, started chipping, n they bought a freaking crayon, Standard Pacific n Barbosa sucks they were not helpful n 7 years later the cabinets are bad n look 50 years old. If ur builder is using this company choose a different builder or make them use a different company or u will be highly disappointed. I don't know how they get away with f******g people new homes up. I spoke with all my neighbors and they all have the same problem, right now we r working on getting a class action lawsuit done, Barbosa messed with the wrong folks. I am going to also start protesting in front of new homes I see them working in so when potential buyers come to show pics of my cabins along with my neighbors to encourage folks to go back to the builder to have them fired off the job. Terrible. They installed all the cabinets in my brand new DR Horton home since they were contracted by the builder. They did not finish the job! I am still missing shelves! We had no choice but to have Barbosa cabinets in our new home but I was told, by the builder, that Barbosa would be willing to work with us to upgrade the kitchen afterwards. I called and emailed Barbosa to discuss but they never answer the phone or emails. I drove over 2hrs to their office in Tracy, CA and it took forever to find someone to come to the front and even speak to me. They said sorry we don't do small jobs. I said mostly I just need to purchase matching doors and some stain to match. I would find someone else to do the work. Sorry was their answer. Had to go with Barbosa Cabinets in our new home as builder used them exclusively. If we had a choice, we would not have gone with them in the first place. Since our house has been built, we have had nothing but problems with the cabinets. The hardware used on ours was cheaper than the cheapest you could possibly buy. We had them come out and replace/adjust the cabinets within the first year. The cabinets still do not close properly and the brackets are all breaking. Called them to ask if someone could come out and repair them again. Was told that there was nothing they could do since it had been over a year since the cabinets were put in. So, our cabinets that we paid several thousand $$ to upgrade, while they look nice, are unusable at this point. I asked if they did any repairs at all on the own product and I was told no. So, I guess this company does not stand by their product whatsoever. While they got our money, don't let them take yours. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

I would have been much happier, and would have given a five star review, but (as other reviewers have noted) Barbosa needs to be a lot quicker when it comes to resolving customer concerns. My Barbosa Cabinets, all custom fitted were perfect. I installed them myself as I was rebuilding my home here in Oakland. All the pieces were clearly marked with computer generated tags and it all went in beautifully. They are now 7 years old and still look new. read more

One of the best and worst things about the internet is the ability for any one person to make comments which can negatively affect other's lives and/or livelihood. Steven G.'s post frankly makes me sympathize with this company. IF the company really DID promise the homeowner a complete installation in one day, they were at fault for agreeing with the customers unrealistic timeline. While it's definitely possible to complete an installation in one day, it's impossible to guarantee it. As a professional cabinet sales person and designer for almost 30 years, I can tell you the time-line was the main problem. I don't have to look at the simplicity or complexity of the layout to know this. No cabinet company can 100% guarantee one day completion, and the customer should not have been allowed to dictate those terms to the cabinet company. I personally would have told the customer I would not do the job unless they were willing to adjust their expectations, if needed. read more
