Barbosa is the company my builder decided to use because they offered the cheapest bid. The price definitely reflects the poor quality of their work. If I asked you where you would expect the finest craftmanship in a new house you would probably say kitchen cabinetry right? Exactly! You would expect the fit and finish to be top notch as this is the heart of a home. People that come to visit you will usually congregate in the kitchen where the centerpiece of the home is. Well that's where the disappointment begins. We first found some of the upper cabinets to have horrible wood grain which is right there at your eye level. Are these guys turning a blind eye on purpose? Nevermind i know the answer. Don't get me started on the shelving. I think the shop is using a steak knife to make the cuts as they are ragged and all crooked. When we asked for replacements, they took more than 2 months to send us replacement shelves. TWO MONTHS! And guess what? They were also crooked AF! Do you really want cabinetmakers who can't even cut a straight line? There is not a single craftsman here except for the screwdriver on the floor. I was so fed up with waiting 2 months for a crooked shelf that i asked the builder to send me a board and i'll cut the damn thing myself. My recent appt with them was also very unprofessional. On the appt day, they didn't bother showing up. When you call the office, it will go to VM but don't waste your time leaving a message because the 4 VMs didn't result in a single callback. And then when my builder scheduled the rescheduled appt, the guy came to look at what needed to be done instead of DOING THE REPAIR. Can you believe that? And this was after I spent 20 min on the phone with the Rebecca explaining which cabinet needs work and what exactly is needed. Did she mention the appt is for an inspection? Of course not. That would be too professional of Barbosa. Do yourself a favor and buy something off the shelf from Home Depot and hire a bum off the street to install your cabinets. You will get better results than with Barbosa. read more

This review is zero stars. We bought a new Pulte home where they used this company for cabinets. You can see the quality of cabinets they installed in the pictures attached (these are just few of the issues). There are nail gun marks, texture, scratches and protruding nails in several places. The soft close is faulty and paint is also off in many places. Please note we paid extra for "upgrades". We raised a work order to fix this in April. This is still pending as none of the technicians are available to finish the job, and we can only get an appointment once a month on the day that they dictate. No one cares about customer's availability. They also take forever to reply to emails and don't provide a phone number either. We had a no-show once and when they did show up the technician finished 5 requests out of the 20+ issues we had surfaced. They conveniently forgot and asked us to send all those details again. Please note that the technician who came to our house removed all the blue tape we had added to mark the issues without fixing them! When I checked their work I found that they had not completed majority of the requests. I had to go in and inspect the cabinets again and add blue tapes to those unfinished areas. We have tried escalating on multiple fronts with no resolution. I hope Pulte Homes stops using them, or other buyers can read this message and be cautious. I will update this review based on if and when they ever finish the work order request. read more

I bought a new home from Shea. Cabinets were not right waited forever to get some fix.now 3 years 4 month later they look like they are at least 12 years old. Paint chip every where. I don't cook. Custoner service guy tried explaining it off. Chip hit it with a pan. Not true. Wear and tear. Blamed my dog. hazey,wipe Dow with a very very damp cloth and they leave a haze. Everything everyone says is true. Didn't even put in a double door cabinet only single ones in my kitchen except above my refrigerator. The cabinets that my builder used to are Barbosa cabinets. They are of poor quality, with cheap plastic drawer slide rear sockets that continually break over time. In 10 years I have replaced 6 of them. In addition, the finishing on the wood is poor quality and show wear and tear quickly from even incidental touching. In addition, when reaching out to the customer care team for assistance, they seemed to have little interest in helping me and with indifference, they had a clear desire to get me off the phone as quickly as possible sending me to search at home depot for repair parts. read more

Kitchen cabinets were built with low grade wood by Barbosa and we contacted them to get one missing kitchen shelf plus pull out cabinet drawers that need to be replaced. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Home is 7 years old and cabinets look like they are 25 years old. The finish is flaking off. Have no idea what they used. Hard to also clean no matter how much I've tried. Everything sticks to them and has a weird haze even after cleaning. The cabinets are dark which needs cleaning because of fingerprints but not much works. They look like crap and it's quite embarrassing. I just pray when we have company or parties they don't notice the horrible cabinets. I should sue for emotional distress can't even enjoy a party or company over without being stressed someone will notice this junk of cabinets. I have used touch up markers and they don't seem to work. Haven't gotten around to calling a place see what can be done to re finish them if that's possible. Can't believe I have to pay who knows how much to fix cabinets that are 7 years old. DR Horton was the builder who used this company. One of my cousins was looking for homes in the Vacaville area from DR Horton and I mention cabinets they used and other stuff (but that's another story). He didn't end up purchasing from DR Horton. I like to think the cabinets scared him off even if they probably didn't use same company. Builders should be more careful cutting a few dollars it affects them in the long run also. read more

Our house built in 2014 by Shea Homes has Barbosa builder-grade cabinets installed throughout. Everything but the door and drawer fronts and cabinet frames is particle board held together with janky staples. (It doesn't appear they used glue at all). Even the drawer guides are stapled in, where they should have used screws, and some of them were installed out of level. Also, when Barbosa installed the cabinets, nobody bothered to level any of the drawer fronts or doors, so I had to go through the entire house and realign everything. Additionally, the finish on these cabinets is a cheap type of catalyzed varnish that is not very durable. If your house comes without cabinet pulls, as ours did, get them installed ASAP, because the slightest amount of wet hands on the wood will deteriorate the finish in no time. It is NOT water resistant in the least. Lastly, if you're in the market for a cabinet supplier for a remodel project or any kind of situation where you might need service after the sale, avoid Barbosa at all costs. Once the cabinets are installed, they wash their hands of it. They will NOT offer any kind of replacement doors, drawers, refinishing services, trim pieces, or anything. You're 100% ON YOUR OWN. They're a production shop and they simply don't give a crud about the "hassle" of dealing with individual customer issues after the sale. read more

Barbosa Cabinets were installed in our new condo about 4 years ago. We really like them and have had an excellent response from their customer service team on several occasions. The latest help came from Dave Dodd who graciously and generously offered to have one of his employees replace and install the mechanism behind the recycle center part of our cabinets. The mechanism recently broke. This is customer service beyond the call of duty since the warranty has long expired. Dave was as nice and helpful as one can imagine and had me send photos of the damaged part to be sure that we were talking about the same mechanism. His co-worker is making a 1 1/2 hour trip here tomorrow am to install the new part. We would never have been able to afford to pay for a new part. Thank you Dave and Barbosa. read more

If I could give negative stars I would!! I've been waiting on a cabinet replacement for 13 months! 13 MONTHS!! They've come out at least half a dozen times without the right item, without the right tools, without the right repairman, or just completely didn't show up at all! The company is either slow to respond or just unresponsive. They offer no timeline for the completion of the work & insist that you rearrange your entire schedule for last minute appointments. Their own workers say how unorganized the company is. One even admitted looking for another job! Unorganized, terrible communication, & incompetent are words that best describe this company. I am so grateful I am not reviewing this company!!! I will give a shout out to ALL the reviews of customers who've been negatively affected by them. I would like to thank all of you. We have gotten quotes from Ikea for $over $6,000 (didn't like cabinet options, but loved price) and Home Depot over $35,000 for just (re-facing) not new cabinets. They're crazy. When we purchased our new home in 1999, most of them came with those golden oak cabinets. It was standard cabinetry for our builder Morrison. I wanted to change them to give a richer look. I remember hearing Barbosa was the top of the line cabinets known in our area. We couldn't afford much. So, in 2004, I sanded and stained them. I was so excited that I excessively applied cherry/brown "oil based" stain with a sponge brush. I didn't realize it was to be wiped off with a cloth. It came out beautifully, but got sticky over time. In 2006 I hired a few landscapers to help me sand them down again. This time I used a water based stain. We also added new stainless steal hardware. Soooo much better!! Now, I REALLY need a new cabinet floor replaced under my kitchen sink due to water damage. I have plywood there right now. I also want to upgrade my kitchen a bit. However, they still look decent and have lasted for over 20 years. I recently wanted to get a quote from Barbosa after Ikea and Home Depot. But, NOT anymore after reading the yelp statuses. This breaks my heart knowing the frustration and financial burden of these former clients. These reviews have saved me time and thousands of dollars. I hope all these home builders are notified to cease using a company that DOESN'T stand behind quality work. People work hard to purchase a house to call it a home. Shame on you B.C.! read more

I've tried for 6 months to get someone to call me back from this company regarding paint color on my cabinets. No such luck.

Poor quality product, even worse customer service. Don't even have the decency to return missed calls most of the time.

The hinges are installed on the edge of the wood, not on the side board of the cabinet. Especially for the cabinets that has small opening and long metal hinges sticking out, whenever you try to take or out things, you scrape you skin. This has cause me and my parents bleeding so many times. And when you reach to them they said it's the standard installation. Crap!!! Like most we did not have a Choice on which brand we went with when we bought our house... The little "barbosa" tags on each hinge fall off... removing each shelve pin to reposition the shelves is a nightmare. Three years into owning the cabinets, one door broke and I emailed them directly to see if they can help, no response after a week so I called barbosa direct to purchase a new door. The receptionist had a huge attitude by saying "your out of warranty" I repeated myself and I said I'm looking to buy, not looking for warranty work. She quickly turned me away, being inconvenienced by my phone call. Before she hung up on me I quickly asked for a retailer, she gave me the number to one in Manteca 38 miles away from me... I asked for something closer and she said, you'll have to look it up on line! Wait... wait... you the manufacture, shouldn't you have a list of retailers? Wtf! I asked for this company she recommended, no preferred retailer she recommended "Perez cabinets" and she gave me their number. I quickly called this company, left a message and of course I haven't heard back from them. Call another day, left another message and the same crap. It's been about two weeks now. What am I to do? Had need for touchup stain that I could not match elsewhere. Left voice message for customer service. Ms. Atkins called me back and I will be picking up a quart of the stain at a reasonable price. Great customer service. Surprised about the bad reviews on Yelp. After we purchased our home, there was some problems with the cabinets - missing a couple of shelves and undercounter waste baskets. One phone call and problem resolved. I needed an additional shelf beyond what was provided. One phone call and they made a shelf for me at a fair price that I picked up. Other shelves were delivered since it was their error. Our cabinets are holding up great. Over past 7 years with wet hands, the stain where our hands pull the doors open has worn down, requiring touchup. Other than that no issues. For those reading this and if you are having problems, suggest ask for Ms. Atkins. read more

Used this company through our builder to fix our scratched countertops. Their technician was poorly trained to handle the situation. He made matters worse by rushing through the job and in the process introduced new scuff marks and scratches in areas that originally were in pristine condition. We recently decided to have Barbosa Cabinets come out again to give us the office of our dreams. While the office in it's finished state is beautiful and exactly what we envisioned, the following events ensured that we would never do business with them again... PRIOR TO INSTALLATION DAY: At the time we had our laundry/mud room cabinets installed we also had the salesman measure for a future custom office project. Fast-forward a year later and we were ready to go forward with that project on the heels of the excellent work they did. After about a month of going through preliminary drawings and revisions, we left it up to our salesman to coordinate an installation date to ensure the work would be done in one day. The caveat to that however was that my husband had to take an unpaid day off from work but he didn't mind because he wanted to enjoy the new office post haste. INSTALLATION DAY#1: Yes you heard me right, day 1 as in more than one day. The delivery team was supposed to arrive between 8am and 10am however they arrived at 11:30am. After 30mins of screwing around with where to park and how to get the product into the house, they were finally done an hour later. Being they were of (insert sarcasm)excellent judgement and sound mind, they packed all of the product into the room in which the product was to be installed regardless of my hubby offering to have the product go into a different space. The installers arrived 30 mins later to begin work. Just as hubby feared they spent a whole hour going over the inventory and moving the product out of the room in which it was to be installed!! The installers worked for a solid three hours quitting at 5:30pm with only 40% of the office completed. At this point my hubby was LIVID since everyone involved with this project knew it was supposed to be done in one day. Needless to say the house was left a mid-cabinet mess. AFTERMATH: Immediately after they left, hubby e-mailed our contact with pictures of the unfinished project. He responded the next day saying he forwarded the e-mail to one of the owners and that he agreed this was unacceptable. The next day he contacted hubby again to say he still hadn't heard from the owner although hubby called and left a message for the owner as well. Later it was communicated by our contact that the owner was upset and that she felt my hubby blew everything out of proportion even though the e-mail lacked any emotion, was completely factual and could be verified not to mention supported by photos. Eager to get this project finished, hubby scheduled the next installation to be five days later without any concessions from Barbosa. They had the audacity to refuse to work on a weekend eventhough all of this mess is their fault. This equated to hubby taking another unpaid day off to get the remaining 60% done, lovely. Hubby was beyond fuming and asked for some compensation for this in the form of nearly 8% off the remaining balance as that equates to the pay he lost, their response was 5%. Taking what we could get we accepted. INSTALLATION DAY#2: The pleasant installation crew arrived 15mins early eager to complete this project. They worked throughout the morning finishing in great time and did a wonderful job. AFTERMATH: A short while later it was discovered there were several scratches, holes that needed to be plugged and hardware missing. Another e-mail was sent to the office asking for stain to cover the scratches, plugs for holes that needed to be capped and the rest of the hardware to be installed before we'd pay the remaining balance. A call was received apologizing for the inconvenience and she scheduled a follow-up appointment for everything to be addressed outside of normal business hours (early morning). INSTALLATION DAY #3: Received a call 15mins after the time they were supposed to show up citing that supplies did not arrive the night before and they weren't coming. Lovely, couldn't they have called when they found out they didn't have the goods?! We were left with them calling us when the parts did come in. AFTERMATH: A few days later they called to finally schedule the appointment. INSTALLATION DAY #4: No call, no show AFTERMATH: Another call placed to the office and message left. They called back but this time it was a new person who seemed puzzled and irritated that hubby called. Another appointment was scheduled and scheduled as such that it did not interfere with hubby's work schedule especially since his employer was becoming increasingly unsympathetic. INSTALLATION DAY #5: Installer was there at the time agreed, shocking!! The remainder of the job took the installer 30mins and officially we were finished. OVERALL ASSESSMENT -Very happy with the work and quality once they finally did it -Due to complete lack of follow-through and poor communication, we will never do business with Barbosa Cabinets again. read more

We had Barbosa Cabinets installed throughout our brand new build and are fairly pleased with what we got. We went for a dark stain which came out nice and goes well with our lighter floor covering. One issue we have had with them is that we needed one of the doors for our Kitchen cabinets replaced and it took weeks despite them being less than 10 miles away. We were given an appointment to have the cabinet replaced 2 weeks out from when we requested it only on the day of our appointment after me waiting at home for them to come we get told by the representative (when I called them) that actually they're not coming out because they didn't know what color stain we needed. For real? They have our paperwork and they had 2 weeks to make sure they had that information. With that in mind they sent someone out to collect the cabinet door from us so that they could match the stain leaving us with no door for another 2 weeks. When the day comes for it to be fitted they didn't bring our old one back as we requested. There was nothing major wrong with the old one, just a few scratches but we wanted to keep it as back up just in case another needed to be replaced in future. Turns out the new stain isn't a complete match either.. it's slightly darker, how this happened when they could compare side to side before sending it out I don't know. Barbosa cabinets are made to look absolutely beautiful. They were and are a main feature in my new construction home 4 years ago. Now years later the beauty is fading quickly. The staples that they used to put together the cabinets are coming apart. Some places they just held in the piece of particle board with one janky looking nail. we've had to repair almost all of our cabinets and drawers over the last 4 years. It's really disappointing. When we inspected our home upon purchase, we didn't think to inspect every single staple or nail that they used to install the cabinets. We just looked at he exterior and made sure the doors opened and the hinges were on tight. We thought these cabinets were made to last and never come a apart. The cabinets in my mom's 30 year old home have held together better than my 4 year old Barbosa Cabinets. I also fault the builder for being so lax with their control of the work. We are not home builders or cabinet installers. How would we know what was done wrong or right. Now we know better. Buyer beware if you ever buy a home with Barbosa cabinets or have them come out to do a custom installation. read more

I struggled between one and two stars only because there are aspects of the product that are OK. .But the company, as a whole, should be avoided This review is more about the people than the product. People make cabinets and to that extent, their people are OK. (Truth be told, people run the machines that make the cabinets and the machines seem to work...) But Barbosa's problem is how their people interact with customers. Those interactions are painful, slow and ultimately frustrating. Luckily, I was insulated from their "people" through a kitchen designer, but she told me of the apparent chaos in which Barbosa's people seems to exist. This resulted in late delivery of shop drawings, poor design for custom shelves. She could rarely get anyone on the phone, they were slow to respond to emails. Bottom line -- it resulted in an unpleasant experience for the customer. People also make business decisions that effect their customers. And this is where I have my biggest beef with Barbosa. This is where Barbosa's lack of empathy and concern for the best interests of the customer should (and hopefullly, will) impact their business long term. Those custom shelves didn't come with any type of mounting hardware or instructions for installation. They were extremely heavy in their own right. And given they were intended as a place to store lots of dishes, stuff for cooking, they will need to support a lot of additional weight. All-in-all, an important element in the kitchen that absolutely had to be reliable and sturdy. And most of all, installed properly. Yet they left it up to the installer to decide how to install it. One wrong decision and the shelves come crashing down, potentially hurting someone. We pleaded with Barbosa to give us installation instructions. We reasoned it was their custom design... not just a standard cabinet. Yet they flat out refused. "We won't assume the liability," they said. "You're on your own", they implied. "If it fails, don't call us", was the take away for the customer. This is the attitude and myopic business policy that can ultimately result in injury and lawsuits. Had we known this was their business practice, we would have selected a different vendor.
