Adval Construction construction company remodeled our kitchen and did an excellent job. They demolished the old cabinets and countertops, hauled the old stuff away, and installed new cabinets and quarts countertops. The new cabinets are in perfect condition and have soft closing drawers and cabinets doors. The electrical work top notch and a lot of old issues were fixed including lining up all the outlets and light fixtures, which were previously uneven. The employees arrived on time each day, were clean, friendly, and respectful and they cleaned up at the end of each day. They were a pleasure to have over each day and trustworthy. Each day I am shocked at how great everything turned out. They make my house feel like a model home. We hired Adval construction to repaint our kitchen, bathroom, and hallway linen cabinets. Our old cabinets were dark and gloomy, and we wanted a refreshed look. While we are overall happy with the final product, there were some pros and cons along the way Pros: - Hiring Adval was a pretty seamless process. We requested a quote and within a week, Camila the consultant/designer came for an inspection of our area, measurement, and go over samples for a free quote - Since my husband and I didn't want to be around paint fumes, it took us a few months to schedule the project in tandem with a trip out of town. Adval respected that and didn't push; they simply had us let Debbie know when we were ready - While we were out of town, the painters Ana and Jeff were very respectful of our place. We had cameras setup for security, and they always cleaned up after themselves, turned off our lights, and ensured our doors were locked each day they were on site. They even helped bring in our trash bins after trash day! Cons: - Adval wasn't the most affordable in comparison to other quotes we received. However, we chose them anyway because their process and communication seemed the most thorough (in the beginning) - Since we had the work done while we were out of town, scheduling with the GC Pedro for repairs and touchups was a bit of a struggle as they were already busy with other projects - It was not made clear how EASILY new paint on the cabinets could get scratched and damaged. We had pre-existing rollout drawers in our bottom cabinets and they scratched the doors so quickly. In addition, some areas (drawer/cabinet edges and corners) have already chipped. We wish Camila elucidated this information to us when we were debating painting vs refacing and that Ana/Jeff/Pedro gave us care instructions for the new paint when they initially finished the project - There were a few doors that were clearly damaged prior to painting (corners were broken off/chipped but then the door was still painted over); Pedro ended up picking up these doors and they repaired them at their warhouse - It took about 2 months from the time we returned from our trip/initial paint completion to the final completion of the project (between scheduling, Pedro taking the damaged doors back to the warehouse to have repainted/repaired, and Ana/Jeff returning for reinstallation and final touch ups; the final reinstall was rescheduled on their end 3 times which was slightly annoying) - We changed our mind after initial completion from financing to paying the remaining balance in full. However, something must not have been communicated because the Synchrony account was activated and we didn't know until they charged us a late fee due to missing the first payment. We were able to get the late fee waived and ended up just paying off the balance through Synchrony. Again, annoying. Overall, even with the roller coaster of our simple project, the entire team at Adval was always respectful. They were quick to respond to my texts/calls and showed professionalism in their work. I appreciated that they were responsive and accountable. We are just disappointed in how fragile the final product is and we weren't properly informed. read more

Too long didn't read: our project with Adval construction has been a nightmare from start to finish. Project scope was to repaint kitchen and laundry room cabinets, replace countertops in those rooms (minus the island), and tile a small laundry room floor. They started on June 15th, THEY ARE STILL NOT FINISHED as of September 17th. We have encountered significant issues throughout the entire project detailed below. The only reason for the single star is their willingness to fix issues when brought up, though they never identify issues proactively and resolve them, they wait for you to notice and press the issue. I also recommend investigating some of the "people" making 5 star reviews on their behalf with no photos or substantiation for their claims (there was one I reported that Yelp removed from a woman who had only reviewed Florida businesses). Tread carefully. Here is a list of major concerns and problems we have run into on this relatively small project, with pictures to substantiate. 1. These guys had a subcontractor who incorrectly installed Taj Mahal quartzite (natural stone) countertops without proper structural support through my entire kitchen and laundry room and who did an objectively terrible job on the installation and templating/fabrication. Adval's project manager did not properly oversee and inspect the installation. I personally found the issue myself, and reported it to them, a few days after the countertop installation. I am confident they would have proceeded with the project no problem had I not discovered the issue. It was bad enough that the owner Pedro called me to say "he would never accept that quality of work in his own home" and they ultimately agreed to rip up the entire countertop installation to re-do it. $5000+ worth of countertop material and a week of time wasted due to poor subcontractors and poor management. And of course I am paying them as a general contractor to oversee my job but I am the one inspecting quality and catching major mistakes, so why am I paying the fee for a general contractor to manage? Pictures of the botched countertop job attached, they speak for themselves. 2. Adval left my kitchen and property a mess every time they left the job. They did little to clean up the job site and at one point so much trash and debris had accumulated in my kitchen that I personally had to clean it up into a pile and send a picture to the owner to get them to haul it off. Again, why am I managing my job when I am paying a general contractor? 3. The finished product in my kitchen, that I absolutely regret signing off on and paying for before I was truly satisfied, is not reminiscent of a $60K job. The Adval crew, not a subcontractor, responsible for installing my cabinet doors and drawers made so many mistakes hanging doors that they had to drill into my cabinet frames many times. In many cases, they left exposed unfilled holes in my freshly painted and finished cabinet frames. Photos attached. That is not a quality finish on a $60K job to paint cabinetry, it's unacceptable. Further, they left many cabinet doors with significant visible damage from boring holes for the mounting hardware. They have taken the 6 doors back to refill the damage and repaint the doors after I brought up the issue, but again, something I had to bring up that an owner of their company was satisfied with or completely missed when walking the job. Pictures of the lack of quality and attention to detail attached. 4. 6 weeks into the job, Adval realized the soft close drawer hardware they planned to use would not fit in my cabinet openings. It took them 6 weeks on the job to figure that out, and they had to go make new custom drawer boxes that would allow the hardware to work, which cost us another week of schedule. These are issues that should have been uncovered early in a project that's being managed well. 5. Once I moved into the house and started using the kitchen I discovered that the pull out drawers in my cabinets would not clear the cabinet doors, and thus could not be pulled out. Adval had to take multiple pull out drawers offsite to custom fabricate them to make it work. How did they have someone install cabinet doors and not check that the pull outs in the cabinets would work? Again, took a week to fix those and come reinstall, after they had already been on the job for 10 weeks. I think that's enough of an indictment of their quality of work and level of management. I have a couple of positive things to say about the experience: - They have been willing to correct mistakes. - Their painter does quality work. The cabinet finish, where it didn't need to be touched up so much due to other issues they had with the rest of their crew, is quality. - I think the owner and the crew are generally good well meaning people. I just don't think they had the skilled labor required to do this job well. read more

I had been putting off renovating my 2.5 bathrooms for a long time, always worried that I wouldn't choose the right contractor. He's talanted at what he does. He pays attention to detail. He's trustworthy. I felt so comfortable with him that I gave him the codes to my garage and home alarm systems. I even went on vacation without a single worry. Decided to do some renovations to our bathrooms and kitchen, so my husband and I were looking for contractors. We spoke to a few other groups and met with another team of people, but after meeting with Andy from Adval, we just felt like we were in good hands. Prior to agreeing to work with him, he let us know that he protects all of his contractors and pays them all fairly. They are family-owned and operate locally, like who doesn't love that?! , Remodeling is such a HUGEEE investment with your time and money, so I think it's important to go with who you feel most comfortable with. We are about 3/4 of the way done with our project, and we are excited to see the final result. Based on the work so far, we have complete confidence that it will exceed our expectations. I am *really* fussy about hiring contractors. So many of them conduct their business sloppily and unprofessionally I can't believe they stay in business at all. So I do my research and am VERY selective in who I hire when our house needs work. My wife and I hired Andy Fernandes and Adval and they proved to be the real deal. Andy was *always* prompt - every time he or anyone from his company was scheduled to arrive they arrived early. Andy and his crew were communicative, clearly very knowledgeable, and straightforward, which is to say that they told me *and showed me* what was really happening and not what they wanted to promise or what they thought we wanted to hear. And they followed through exactly as they said they would. The quality of their work was outstanding. We had a few kitchen cabinets that had gotten damaged by the 2014 Napa quake and were looking like they were going to fall off the wall. Andy sent over a master carpenter (he spent years building stuff for moneyed people on Martha's Vineyard, who can be quite demanding) who didn't "upsell" us by telling us one of the cabinets needed to be rebuilt (the build cabinet in their own shop), he showed us in detail exactly what the problem was and convinced skeptical me that a new cabinet built from real plywood instead of the particle board of the cabinets the flipper who sold us the house had installed was the way to go. They reused the facing from the old cabinets, so the match was immaculate. Price-wise, yeah, they weren't the cheapest I could have found, but they were most definitely not close to the high end, they were right in the ballpark, and I figure if I demand quality I have to be wiling to pay for it. And we most decidedly got what we paid for. I repeat again that I am VERY picky about contractors, but I unhesitatingly give Adval Construction my highest recommendation. No, they did horrible work and at one point I went over there and they were saw cutting in my living room on the carpet. I wasn't going to keep the carpet, but I was absolutely shocked that they were in their cutting wood and all kinds of things on the carpet They did a bedroom remodel and a bathroom. I had worked on a year ago and haven't done the yelp review because I was a member of yelp, but I am now. The end product is beautiful, but it was a very difficult process. I had a kitchen done - replacing the cabinets, new cabinet doors, new sink, new countertops. Mike was my consultant and he kept pushing his opinion on me instead of listening to what I wanted. Finally, he put in the order based on what I wanted. Since I didn't know the names for certain things, it was difficult to know if he ordered the right things. He ordered the wrong molding and some corrals for underneath my countertop that were completely wrong considering I had a contemporary design. I had to fight for certain things to be done the right way, but for the most part, Debbie was very helpful. I asked to speak to the owner several times but he never called me. As I said, the final product is beautiful and I love my kitchen. I would just be very leery about using Mike and make sure you check all the product before they install it to make sure it's exactly what you want. read more

From beginning to end...and beyond...working with Adval was a truly great experience. Initially, I googled "cabinet refacing" and got an inquiry form to complete. Within 15 minutes of submitting it, Andy, the owner, responded (on a Sunday no less). We met with the sales person within days and placed our order. It took about 5 weeks for our material to arrive and begin the job. Our installers, Anthony and Brandon, were TOP NOTCH! Anthony is a true craftsman who not only did the basic work, he added molding around the cabinet boxes, framing the edges, the window and the area around the wall oven. It looks finished and elegant! And then...after it was completed, I foolishly forced a drawer organizer that I had previously used into a new drawer and totally jammed it. I sent a panicked text to Debbie (who was my fabulous contact throughout the job) on a Saturday with a big HELP! Message. She jumped on it first thing Monday morning and Anthony came to set it all right! I am so pleased with my kitchen's new look! My husband and I hired AdVal to reface our kitchen cabinets and drawers. We wanted white oak to replace all the cherry wood that we had installed 23 years ago. One of the owners, Andy, came out and gave a great "pitch" about his company and after meeting with 8 separate companies, we decided AdVal was our best bet. And we were so right! Our work crew was a father/son duo, Anthony and Brandon. They were so easy to work with: quiet; respectful; showed up on time and worked really, really hard all day; cleaned up before leaving each day; easy to talk to; and did just brilliant cabinetry work. I would use the word "meticulous" to describe their skills. Anthony even pulled a rabbit out of his hat and built exactly what I wanted around the hood vent over the cook top: he was able to encase the hood vent with the same white oak we were using in the rest of the kitchen. I had showed him a photo of something like it I found on line and he said, "I can make that". And he did --- it's beautiful and is the crown jewel of our renovated kitchen. There were a couple of other challenges regarding how to do this or that, and Anthony came up with solutions every time. What a talent he is! His son was also extremely careful about, among a bunch of other things, putting all the the drawers together and installing the new face fronts and soft-close hinges. And they did all of this in 6 work days! There was one small issue with our refrigerator leaking water (ice makers are a pain but you gotta love having one), and the other owner, Alan, came right out the same day, figured out what the problem was, drove over to the local hardware store and bought the part, came back to our house and fixed it the same day. That gets a "wow!" Debbie from their main office was very communicative, called back/sent emails when she said she would -- how rare is that these days? Very rare but she was right on top of everything related to our project. We are beyond thrilled with the outcome and know that we made the right choice. We got the flooring updated in our home with Pedro and the team, and we are beyond satisfied by their work and the outcome. We had glued down hardwood floors, and we had them removed and installed easy to maintain LVP floors. Pedro and the team were very responsive through the process. They put in extra effort in leveling the floors after the glued down wood was removed. They were great at involving us throughout the process in decision making as well.
