I am *really* fussy about hiring contractors. So many of them conduct their business sloppily and unprofessionally I can't believe they stay in business at all. So I do my research and am VERY selective in who I hire when our house needs work. My wife and I hired Andy Fernandes and Adval and they proved to be the real deal. Andy was *always* prompt - every time he or anyone from his company was scheduled to arrive they arrived early. Andy and his crew were communicative, clearly very knowledgeable, and straightforward, which is to say that they told me *and showed me* what was really happening and not what they wanted to promise or what they thought we wanted to hear. And they followed through exactly as they said they would. The quality of their work was outstanding. We had a few kitchen cabinets that had gotten damaged by the 2014 Napa quake and were looking like they were going to fall off the wall. Andy sent over a master carpenter (he spent years building stuff for moneyed people on Martha's Vineyard, who can be quite demanding) who didn't "upsell" us by telling us one of the cabinets needed to be rebuilt (the build cabinet in their own shop), he showed us in detail exactly what the problem was and convinced skeptical me that a new cabinet built from real plywood instead of the particle board of the cabinets the flipper who sold us the house had installed was the way to go. They reused the facing from the old cabinets, so the match was immaculate. Price-wise, yeah, they weren't the cheapest I could have found, but they were most definitely not close to the high end, they were right in the ballpark, and I figure if I demand quality I have to be wiling to pay for it. And we most decidedly got what we paid for. I repeat again that I am VERY picky about contractors, but I unhesitatingly give Adval Construction my highest recommendation. Our job was pretty small, but I would hire them for a big job in a heartbeat. This is the way construction contracting is supposed to work. read more

We hired Adval construction to repaint our kitchen, bathroom, and hallway linen cabinets. Our old cabinets were dark and gloomy, and we wanted a refreshed look. While we are overall happy with the final product, there were some pros and cons along the way Pros: - Hiring Adval was a pretty seamless process. We requested a quote and within a week, Camila the consultant/designer came for an inspection of our area, measurement, and go over samples for a free quote - Since my husband and I didn't want to be around paint fumes, it took us a few months to schedule the project in tandem with a trip out of town. Adval respected that and didn't push; they simply had us let Debbie know when we were ready - While we were out of town, the painters Ana and Jeff were very respectful of our place. We had cameras setup for security, and they always cleaned up after themselves, turned off our lights, and ensured our doors were locked each day they were on site. They even helped bring in our trash bins after trash day! Cons: - Adval wasn't the most affordable in comparison to other quotes we received. However, we chose them anyway because their process and communication seemed the most thorough (in the beginning) - Since we had the work done while we were out of town, scheduling with the GC Pedro for repairs and touchups was a bit of a struggle as they were already busy with other projects - It was not made clear how EASILY new paint on the cabinets could get scratched and damaged. We had pre-existing rollout drawers in our bottom cabinets and they scratched the doors so quickly. In addition, some areas (drawer/cabinet edges and corners) have already chipped. We wish Camila elucidated this information to us when we were debating painting vs refacing and that Ana/Jeff/Pedro gave us care instructions for the new paint when they initially finished the project - There were a few doors that were clearly damaged prior to painting (corners were broken off/chipped but then the door was still painted over); Pedro ended up picking up these doors and they repaired them at their warhouse - It took about 2 months from the time we returned from our trip/initial paint completion to the final completion of the project (between scheduling, Pedro taking the damaged doors back to the warehouse to have repainted/repaired, and Ana/Jeff returning for reinstallation and final touch ups; the final reinstall was rescheduled on their end 3 times which was slightly annoying) - We changed our mind after initial completion from financing to paying the remaining balance in full. However, something must not have been communicated because the Synchrony account was activated and we didn't know until they charged us a late fee due to missing the first payment. We were able to get the late fee waived and ended up just paying off the balance through Synchrony. Again, annoying. Overall, even with the roller coaster of our simple project, the entire team at Adval was always respectful. They were quick to respond to my texts/calls and showed professionalism in their work. I appreciated that they were responsive and accountable. We are just disappointed in how fragile the final product is and we weren't properly informed. read more

Decided to do some renovations to our bathrooms and kitchen, so my husband and I were looking for contractors. We spoke to a few other groups and met with another team of people, but after meeting with Andy from Adval, we just felt like we were in good hands. Some of the contractors are able to communicate in English, but others are a bit limited. It has not been an issue for us because we try to use translation services, or a team member will help translate if need be. I also appreciate the fact that Andy takes care of his workforce. Prior to agreeing to work with him, he let us know that he protects all of his contractors and pays them all fairly. They are family-owned and operate locally, like who doesn't love that?! , Remodeling is such a HUGEEE investment with your time and money, so I think it's important to go with who you feel most comfortable with. We are about 3/4 of the way done with our project, and we are excited to see the final result. Based on the work so far, we have complete confidence that it will exceed our expectations. Andy, Pedro and his amazing team (particularly Anna and Jeff) did a fabulous job! We needed a new kitchen countertop and to repaint the cabinets. After meeting about 7 different contractors, we decided on Andy at ADVAL, and we couldn't be happier. First of all Andy did his homework and brought samples that we can touch and see, and put against items in our kitchen to get an understanding. No, they did horrible work and at one point I went over there and they were saw cutting in my living room on the carpet. I wasn't going to keep the carpet, but I was absolutely shocked that they were in their cutting wood and all kinds of things on the carpet They did a bedroom remodel and a bathroom. I had worked on a year ago and haven't done the yelp review because I was a member of yelp, but I am now. The end product is beautiful, but it was a very difficult process. I had a kitchen done - replacing the cabinets, new cabinet doors, new sink, new countertops. Mike was my consultant and he kept pushing his opinion on me instead of listening to what I wanted. Finally, he put in the order based on what I wanted. Since I didn't know the names for certain things, it was difficult to know if he ordered the right things. He ordered the wrong molding and some corrals for underneath my countertop that were completely wrong considering I had a contemporary design. I had to fight for certain things to be done the right way, but for the most part, Debbie was very helpful. I asked to speak to the owner several times but he never called me. As I said, the final product is beautiful and I love my kitchen. I would just be very leery about using Mike and make sure you check all the product before they install it to make sure it's exactly what you want. read more

My husband and I hired AdVal to reface our kitchen cabinets and drawers. We wanted white oak to replace all the cherry wood that we had installed 23 years ago. One of the owners, Andy, came out and gave a great "pitch" about his company and after meeting with 8 separate companies, we decided AdVal was our best bet. And we were so right! Our work crew was a father/son duo, Anthony and Brandon. They were so easy to work with: quiet; respectful; showed up on time and worked really, really hard all day; cleaned up before leaving each day; easy to talk to; and did just brilliant cabinetry work. I would use the word "meticulous" to describe their skills. Anthony even pulled a rabbit out of his hat and built exactly what I wanted around the hood vent over the cook top: he was able to encase the hood vent with the same white oak we were using in the rest of the kitchen. I had showed him a photo of something like it I found on line and he said, "I can make that". And he did --- it's beautiful and is the crown jewel of our renovated kitchen. There were a couple of other challenges regarding how to do this or that, and Anthony came up with solutions every time. What a talent he is! His son was also extremely careful about, among a bunch of other things, putting all the the drawers together and installing the new face fronts and soft-close hinges. And they did all of this in 6 work days! There was one small issue with our refrigerator leaking water (ice makers are a pain but you gotta love having one), and the other owner, Alan, came right out the same day, figured out what the problem was, drove over to the local hardware store and bought the part, came back to our house and fixed it the same day. That gets a "wow!" Debbie from their main office was very communicative, called back/sent emails when she said she would -- how rare is that these days? Very rare but she was right on top of everything related to our project. We are beyond thrilled with the outcome and know that we made the right choice. Plus the price was fair and less than what all other 7 companies quoted us. read more

From beginning to end...and beyond...working with Adval was a truly great experience. Initially, I googled "cabinet refacing" and got an inquiry form to complete. Within 15 minutes of submitting it, Andy, the owner, responded (on a Sunday no less). We met with the sales person within days and placed our order. It took about 5 weeks for our material to arrive and begin the job. Our installers, Anthony and Brandon, were TOP NOTCH! Anthony is a true craftsman who not only did the basic work, he added molding around the cabinet boxes, framing the edges, the window and the area around the wall oven. It looks finished and elegant! And then...after it was completed, I foolishly forced a drawer organizer that I had previously used into a new drawer and totally jammed it. I sent a panicked text to Debbie (who was my fabulous contact throughout the job) on a Saturday with a big HELP! Message. She jumped on it first thing Monday morning and Anthony came to set it all right! I am so pleased with my kitchen's new look! We found Adval after a dismal experience with ReBath that quoted us $50k for very small bathroom remodel using their standard pre-manufactured products. We were so mad with the ReBath pitch and estimate we immediately went on Yelp and asked for quotes. Andy with Adval gave us an excellent bid. Our bathroom was half the price of Re-Bath. Alan and his crew were professional and service oriented. Their work was high quality with zero flaws. Also, I had a lot of choices as Andy took us to two showrooms that had a great variety and excellent quality of products. Or, we could buy our products wherever we wanted. His team managed the permit process as well. I am picky and I don't have any complaints at all. I have a beautiful bathroom that I love.
