I found Michael's cabinet co here on Yelp. I was very nervous to trust such an important job to someone I found on Yelp but I had asked around and could not find anybody to do what I wanted to fix my cabinets. They all wanted to just paint them. I wanted them restored to the original finish if at all possible. We paid a lot for these custom cabinets 20yrs ago and really wanted them to be restored to look the same. Michael came out to look at them and told me he has never tried to do work like this before but he was willing to try and felt pretty confident he could do it. If we didn't like it we could always paint them after. It was a risk I decided I wanted to take. We could not wait any longer. 2 of our most used cabinets were severely damaged with water damage - one from a hand towel that had been hanging on it for 20 yrs that would often get damp from hand washing and the other our silverware drawer. They removed all of the damaged cabinet & drawer doors (leaving behind about half of them that had no damage as they were less often used and still looked brand new) and took them to their shop in Livermore. This made the job much harder as they then had to match the color to our existing ones. In addition our kitchen has 2 different paint colors so they had to create 2 different finishes - one a stain and one a paint. Linda, an employee of Michael was in charge of the painting and stain work and the artist who did the work on my cabinets in their factory. She showed us photos along the way and then came back out to reinstall the doors plus also repair the water damage we had on baseboards and cabinet sides that weren't able to be removed. She taped everything off in our kitchen to prep and then spent 2 days refinishing all of the rest of the damage. She was very careful and caused zero problems anywhere around her work. The finished product was absolutely 5 stars - could not have gone any better. I have delayed for way too long giving Michael and Linda credit for the work she did but the benefit to that is that I can now say after over a year (finished Sept 2024) of having the refinished cabinets in my kitchen they have held up perfectly and still all look absolutely brand new (helps not having kids living at home anymore!) I would 100% recommend you to trust Michael and his team to be honest, hard working and skilled crafts people for your cabinets. Michael had them made to the proper specs but the color I provided him ended up not matching on a painted sample. We think the guys who painted my cabinets picked a different base. After one year of waiting for Michael to get back to me, he emailed me to decline my kitchen project. I'm so frustrated and angry. On 12/8/21 I met with Michael at the showroom to view the cabinet choices, then he came to my home and measured. The cabinets were of good quality and I was sold. We had a great experience working with Caliber to do the cabinets in our kitchen and master bath, plus built-in bookcases + mantle in the living room. They also redid some closet and storage doors for us. They came highly recommended from our GC and we really enjoyed working with them. Mike and his team have years of experience and it really shows in their attention to detail. He had fabulous suggestions along the way (like adding glass panels to an upper cabinet between two windows), as well as having a great sense of humor. Also, with our LR mantle, they made a life-size mock up and brought it over so that we could see how it looked. We realized that our fireplace wasn't exactly centered on the wall and they adjusted the trim to make it look symmetrical. And we had some unusual spaces, too, due to a basement staircase. They worked closely with our GC (especially on the measurements) and did an incredible job maximizing our space. I will admit that I did have sticker shock when we first got the bids back from them. But, after doing a lot of comparison and realizing that their bid included tax and installation, we decided to move forward. I'm so glad we did! Highly recommended!! read more

My husband and I recently purchased a tri-level house, and we didn't realize there was an odd space in the wall of the bottom floor until the owners had moved out. When the house was shown to us, the owners actually had cabinets in front of it covering it up, but used the space as miscellaneous storage. The space was an odd shape, it looks rectangular, but on the sides there are vents which took up some space. With two toddlers in the house I knew immediately that we would need to have custom cabinets done in this space to keep the kids out of mischief and to store things in a more organized manner, so I called about 4 different contractors (Fremont, Newark, and Hayward) including Michael Giannechinni of Caliber Cabinets. We chose Michael because he was by far the most professional and he really listened carefully to our concerns. While I was just concerned with putting the cabinet in and making sure the kids don't use it as a hiding out space, my husband wanted to make sure we used every inch of the available space and we are able to use the electrical outlet in it. Before we met with Michael, some contractors gave us proposal of just a rectangle that would fit into it, cutting off about 30% of usable space, some contractors didn't even submit a design and told us they were just not up to it for scheduling reasons, but Michael submitted a real design that was thoughtful, considerate, and professional. His proposal was not the cheapest but it was the most thorough and thoughtful of those submitted, as it gave us different options, and based on our meeting, we knew that he was the best person for the job. My husband and I don't like to just bring in anyone into our home, contractors included, and we really liked the fact that Michael and his team (installer was Jaime) were respectful, on time, and considerate of our family. Everything went very smoothly on installation day, and we couldn't be happier with the way things turned out. While I have not received my cabinets from Caliber as they are currently in production, I feel COMPELLED to write this review as my experience thus far with Mike, owner of Caliber, has been nothing but an amazing experience. To be honest, I was hesitant initially as I had shopped around and the prices for semi-custom cabinets were already pretty high so I can only imagine how much more expensive custom cabinets would be. That all changed when I met Mike. I was blown away by his knowledge and expertise on the cabinet industry, his production facility (which is on site) and most importantly, the quality of the woods and his work. I have 2 young kids so it was a peace of mind knowing that my cabinets are made here in CA, with high quality control processes in place and they will fit my remodeled kitchen PERFECTLY. On top of that, I loved hearing about his family (he's a second generation cabinet shop owner) and his visions on what he wants to do with the shop. Throughout the design process, I was even more confident that I had made the right decision by going with Caliber. Mike was attentive and his attention to details were superb. He offered some really good suggestions and you can tell that he genuinely wants you to be satisfied. The level of customer service is probably the best I have experienced throughout my home remodeling process and I think Caliber prides themselves on that. After visiting and calling many other cabinet shops around the Bay Area, I knew I struck gold when Michael picked up the phone. A global pandemic was underway and I needed new cabinets. I was not in the market for cheap Canadian or Chinese cabinets, I was looking for quality hand made, high end cabinetry. Well if you are too, look no further. Michael immediately scheduled time for me to come to his shop and look over samples of his work. He gave me a tour of the facility which was very COVID safe. Him and his team always followed proper health & safety guidelines. Michael showcased his exceptional manufacturing process which made his company very trustworthy. This level of customer care is getting increasingly difficult to find nowadays. After our visit, Michael found some time to come to the job site and take incredibly accurate measurements! Even without the drywall or floor in place yet, Michael properly accounted for all of these variables. The same night! I received a text from Michael with ALL of the CAD drawings (on a Friday!). I mean how incredible! This guy was on it! I had a competing bid from a different cabinet company which I called the following Monday and declined. At this point, Michael had earned my business. From this point forward, Michael made himself available to me at every point of the process for any questions, concerns or adjustments I needed via email, text, and phone call. Furthermore, I made many custom requests which Michael fulfilled with ease. Mainly due to the COVID-19 situation, certain parts of the project were heavily delayed which turned my project into a 7 month journey. Michael is very detail oriented so not only did he take initial measurements but he also took final measurements months later right before we started production to ensure a perfect fit. This is the level of expertise you want when getting new cabinets. Due to the sheer size of the project, I was lucky enough to meet all 3 of Michael's installation crews. The majority of the crew members were incredibly nice, on time, and had great attention to detail. We even had to make some onsite adjustments which the teams skillfully completed. The team who installed my kitchen cabinets led by Mark did such a fantastic job that I couldn't wipe the smile off my face when I saw the final product. Jamie and his team installed my upstairs bathroom cabinets which also went over amazingly well. Any complications or issues that did arise, Michael made it his top priority to resolve. We even added some additional cabinets and pieces which Michael and his team were able to produce alongside the others - no problem at all. At the end of the day, Michael and his team are a fun, great group of people who put the customer first and guarantee customer satisfaction. I'm telling you that you would be making a mistake by not giving Michael and Caliber Cabinets a shot. I cannot say enough about how pleasant it was to work with Mike and the people at Caliber Cabinets. When my wife and I bought out home, we knew that it was something that needed to go. The concern was the the cost and extent of the project. We over-bought with the home, which left us with less than we wanted for a remodel, so trimming the "fat" was a must. With cabinets in three bathrooms, a laundry room, loft, living room, and full kitchen, I was sharpening the knife to cut out my kidneys for market. Our experience with the team at Caliber Cabinets was exceptional from initial consult to product design to final install to post-install service. By the time we had gone through the entire process it was clear that Mike and his team have been together for years. We worked with Mike on 2 custom bathroom vanities and full custom kitchen cabinets. Mike not only genuinely counseled us on finding the best solutions for our needs but he also followed up on each and every element of planning and product detail beyond expectation. Communication and responsiveness was nothing short of awesome. Each milestone was met on time or early and the delivered product was extremely high quality. In addition, install was efficient and as high quality as the product itself. Since the cabinet work was all custom and we were also doing construction, Mike and his team were extremely responsive in communication with me and our GC and in followup for any unexpected issues that arose during construction of our home. Fast forward to today, 8 months post install. I reached out to Caliber to get some advice on fixing some scratches in the cab doors caused by kids. Mike responded within hours and is even helping to resolve the issues even though it is no longer his responsibility and Caliber has been paid in full since install. In the end, I recognized this is a 5+ star business because the owner and his team take great pride in their work and skillset. He's extremely detail-oriented and responsive- two things that are super crucial when renovating anything in your home. My family and I can't say enough positive comments about Caliber Cabinets. Wanting to make some minor upgrades to my parents kitchen, our job did not require a full kitchen cabinet remodel but rather one cabinet/pantry and two side cabinets to anchor our new cooktop range. Not only does Mike create beautiful cabinets that are impeccable, he runs his company with the utmost professionalism, and made our experience a pleasant one.
