Roasted Beet Salad
Leah T.

My coworker and I went for restaurant week because they were wanting French cuisine. The beet salad was lacking flavor and I got no blood orange flavor. The salmon was delicious as were the carrots and mashed potatoes. The standout was dessert. The brûlée cheesecake was so tasty. Our server was amazing and my companion found her very cute.

The food definitely lived up to the hype! We had a group of 4 there for Saturday Brunch. It was too hot to sit on the patio, but the inside with AC was definitely welcome. Our service was great.

Stopped by during happy hour and had a lovely experience! We ordered the mussels, burger, croque madame, and a glass of house white wine -- the mussels were especially delicious, and the wine paired perfectly. The outdoor seating was beautiful and relaxing, and I loved that it was dog-friendly. We finished off with the carrot cake, which definitely lived up to the hype -- so good! Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

I visited Barbette in Minneapolis which gives us a touch of Paris nestled in a beautiful section in Uptown Minneapolis. The staff was very friend and provided quick and quality service. I ordered the Croque Vegetariene. It was good in general, however not really what I expected as compared a regular croque; it was more like piece of toast with the a little bechemel and gruyere inside almost like a version of a caprese sandwich. The pomme frites, though, were incredible-- and tasty. I also tried a cappuccino, which was silky, strong, and strong to drink. It all combined to make a good meal, and I'd recommend Barbette as a good spot if you want French-inspired cuisine done that little bit differently. Parking actually was not bad as we visited around the later brunch hours on a Sunday. This place is a must go.

Classic Tartare (Beef)

Let me start out by saying this place is SO CUTE! I love all the French inspired decor and it has such a cozy bistro feel. The was a bit of a mixed back. The appetizers were wonderful! We got the Classic Beef Tartare and Pan Seared Scallops. Both were 5/5 and I would order again. For entrees we got Lamb Chops, Steak Frites, and Butternut Squash & Mushroom Risotto. They were all just okay. The fries for the Steak Frites were the star - crispy and salty, but arrived just above room temperature. The steak itself I could have gotten from Applebee's and not know the difference. The Lamb Chops were flavorful, but very small portions. The Risotto was very bland. The staff was all very friendly, but service was a bit slow. We were there on a Thursday night and it wasn't busy, so it seemed odd that it took so long to get our entrées. We had wanted to order dessert, but we had an event to get to and were concerned about timing. Overall I was a bit underwhelmed by our experience. I would give the place a second chance, but maybe just for drinks and appetizers or dessert.

My boyfriend and I decided to come here for their happy hour and it was an okay experience. We ordered a dozen oysters and a bottle of bubbly for $42 which is a great deal. We definitely wish they would've told us the west cost oysters were huge and had a much different texture from most oysters. They were a bit hard to eat. We also ordered steak tartare and it was pretty good but nothing memorable. This is a cute restaurant but I don't think it's anything I'd come back for. The service wasn't up to par either. Our waitress was nice but we found ourselves looking around trying to get attention to order and grab our check.

This was my first time back at Barbette in years, after moving away from Uptown. The food & staff were still amazing! We were sat immediately, which is always a plus. The restaurant itself is cozy with plenty of tables & lots of art on the walls. I have yet to sit at the round table immediately by the door, so that's still on the list! I got a vanilla latte, which was delicious. For food, I got the Wild Rice & Kale Bowl. It was a decent size & very filling; I loved the dukka, which I had never had before. I do wish the bowl were a bit more flavorful, maybe a seasoned sauce or some hot sauce would've helped. Either way though, it was overall delicious. I'll definitely be back to take advantage of their patio in the summer!

Always one of our favorite haunts in the uptown area of the city, the cozy decor featuring local artists work and staff have created a fan favorite base and the food is classically French without airs.... Even as a vegetarian and GF I can find options... Not going to lie, a warm baguette is a must if you can indulge! They have a lovely assortment of wine and beverage as well with full bar - choose to sit here if you didn't make reservations if you can find an empty stool! Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood, seating is comfortable and well spaced and outdoor seating is a great option in the warmer season! Bon appétit In the foreground is my GF vegetarian option with sweet potato, wild rice, avocado, and egg (can be made vegan as well as adding protein with greens... also cauliflower gratin, and of course steak / frites with mayo (aioli shown here) is the quintessential French option!

Grilled pork tenderloin and roasted mushroom risotto
Kelsey K.

We came here for the first time during restaurant week. It's a super cute little place right in uptown. There was plenty of metered street parking. For starters: the smoked duck breast was really good! Very tender and the sweet sauce drizzled around it made it better. The scallops were also a good choice for those seafood lovers. The gremolata was a nice added twist, giving the dish a fresh taste. For entrees we tried the mushroom risotto with braised lamb and the pork tenderloin with a blackberry bourbon jam. The risotto: I wish the rice had a little more flavor to it but with the mushrooms and lamb it was pretty tasty. The pork tenderloin was also a decent choice - the jam was a perfectly sweet and savory sauce that paired well with the pork. The pork was a little over cooked and dry. Service was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We liked the unique menu options here.

La American Plate and Breakfast Taco

Yum! I went here with a friend for her birthday brunch and it was amazing. I got the Le American and she got the Breakfast Tacos. I appreciated the traditional breakfast options available as well as some unique choices! We shared the Sticky Bun Cinnamon Roll and I have dreams about that dessert. It was SO good and came warm. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. Inside was so warm and inviting, it feels like your friendly neighborhood breakfast spot. Everyone there was super nice as well. I'll be adding this spot to my usual breakfast rotation!

Ham & Gruyere Omelet Plate

First time going to Barbette was yesterday, and we enjoyed our experience there. The ambience and vibe of the space is a unique and fun one. We came for lunch but both noted that it looked like a fun place for casual drinks. The service was good but nothing special. The food was very tasty and it felt like we were eating French food with some fun twists. My burger the royale with cheese was $17.50 and with a $2 upgrade on fries it came out to be $19.50. The ham and gruyere omelet was $16. We thought this was a bit more pricey than a typical sit down place, but definitely worth the value. We'll definitely be back for more

Chocolate Mousse

Looking for a relaxed and quirky place to eat delicious food and receive amazing service and not break the bank? This place should be one of your next stops. We started with Champagne and Oysters. You can order East and/or West. Also- love that the champagne is served in a wine glass and not a traditional flute...meaning you get more! Woo hoo! Moved onto the main course and I had the root vegetables with poached eggs in an onion broth. All of it was amazing. The eggs were poached perfectly. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the onion broth was so flavorful! Served with a couple pieces of bread so you can sop up every last morsel of it! My mom had the buckwheat crepe with poached eggs and said it was equally as delicious as mine. Flavorful, hearty meal that didn't leave us stuffed. Finished off splitting the chocolate mousse- yum! Service was top notch from the moment we walked in the door. Can't wait to return and try other items on the menu.

Beef Classic Tartare

We tried Barbette because they were part of the Citytins deal. The interior is romantic and small for a quieter night out. We didn't have a reservation on a Thursday night and it seemed like almost all of the dining room was saved for reservations, so keep that in mind. We tried the beef tartare and pommes frites which were both delicious! The aoili that came with the fries was great. We split the mushroom risotto, which unfortunately was really bad. It came out cold and completely bland with the only flavor being a smoky aftertaste. The server was nice and the restaurant is still worth trying for the atmosphere and appetizers (and a different entree than the risotto). It's a little off of the craziness of Hennepin Ave in uptown so street parking is easier to come by.

I walked in on a random Monday straight from the airport hoping to grab a seat at the bar. I was lucky enough to arrive right before dinner rush and snag the last seat available by the window bar even without a reservation. The hostess kindly took my carryon bag and stored it for me while one of the servers walked me to my seat. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Fantastic place to hang out and have fun while enjoying good food and drinks with friends. Feels more like an approachable bistro than a stuffy fancy restaurant. The menu is a playful take of American classics with a French twist or viceversa in some cases. I started my meal with a single oyster. Refreshing and bright, it was the perfect way to open the meal. Next was the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Presentation was a bit sloppy with some soup dripping on the side of the bowl, but the soup was so velvety and delicious I couldn't care any less about. The crispy bread and melty, gooey cheese was immediate comfort on a plate. The tanginess of the cheese went perfectly with the natural sweetness of the soup. Third course was one of the most delicious risottos I've ever had. Earthy mushrooms, creamy , perfectly cooked rice topped with crispy green apple sticks and.....blueberries?! Yes, you read that right... blueberries and apple in a risotto. I would have this vegetarian dish any day. Finally for desert angel fruit cake. Fluffy and not overly sweet. Perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. I could eat this every day

We loved every second of our experience here! The decor was amazing, the service was exceptional, the food was to die for. They had a special Valentine's Day menu which included beef Wellington for two, so we got that. Asked if it had sides and they said no. I asked if a veg was possible, expecting frozen, microwaved bland veggies. We got beautifully roasted, seasoned veggies that were amazing. Plus the beef Wellington was melting in our mouths. Cocktails were also exceptional. We had an espresso martini and old fashioned which came with a table side experience. We ended our adventure with the sticky toffee torte which was another exceptional dish. Our server was so kind and so so knowledgeable about every item and restaurant in the owners catalog. There is a lot to say about this restaurant, and most of it is very good. The ambiance had perfect energy. It felt lively, but never loud or overwhelming. It struck a really nice balance for a special night out. You could comfortably enjoy the experience and conversation. The service was exceptional. Not just friendly, but incredibly knowledgeable. Every course and every pairing was explained in detail, and the staff clearly knew their craft. Service - they absolutely delivered. We chose The W.C. Whitney Menu. I had the Premium Wine Pairing, which was excellent and very well done. My wife chose the Temperance Pairing since she does not drink alcohol. This was one of the few disappointments of the evening. Many of the drinks were designed to mimic the taste of cocktails and wine, while my wife does not care for the taste of alcoholic drinks. When it came to the food, there was a range. Some dishes were truly outstanding and worthy of Demi's reputation. Some were good but not exactly great. And honestly, a few were mediocre. With a tasting menu, you expect some variation, but at this level and at this price, mediocre does not cut it. Here's what it really comes down to. I would rate the experience itself 5-stars. But the cost of the evening did not come close to matching what was delivered. I was not looking for, or expecting value! We spent over $700 for the evening. Demi is very good. We were greeted at the entrance, jackets were taken, and drinks offered while we waited. The waiting space was small and a little awkward but it was fun to get serve right away with a friendly bartender. Seating is around the small, intimate bar where you observe the chefs preparing every dish for the night. The servers are shared so you don't get just one person for the night. We are not wine people, but I'd still recommend doing the wine pairings ,which is an extra add on. It was really fun to learn about the different wines and how they tasted with the plates. There is some down time in-between courses but nothing ever felt too long. It seemed like a perfect time to converse and enjoy watching the chefs do their thing. It took about 2.5hrs to finish our nine course meal. The courses were so tasty! I was a little nervous because of previous reviews but we really felt like every dish was put together nicely. We were so impressed with how intricate each dish was and how many ingredients came together. A favorite was the wagyu ribeye. Just so delicious. Yes, I wanted more, but it was about trying small plates and things you've never thought you'd try before. I was full and buzzed by the end of it. I also really appreciated getting the menu at the end of dinner. The whole time I was like what the heck did I just eat? Now, I can reflect on it even more. You are seated next to people but there was plenty of space where I didn't feel like my privacy was invaded. Everything about this experience felt intimate and well put together. Such amazing talent and delicious meals put together right in front of us.

I was stoked to see that they still have an amazing selection of creative zero proof options on the drink menu. I went for a non-alcoholic bubbly (yum!). The menu had some old favorites (hello, piquillo peppers) and some new things. I highly recommend the smashed cucumbers. They are so refreshing and well-balanced. The dill yogurt foam is creamy and tart, and the pickled Fresno peppers and garlic add just the right amount of bright bite. Another don't-miss is the fry bread. Fry bread is delicious however it comes, but this came with whipped ricotta and salsa macha (which became my favorite condiment of all time when it first graced my lips here several years ago) and the loveliest smoked beets I have ever had. (Full disclosure: I am pretty sure they are the only smoked beets I have ever had, which is a crying shame.) For my main, I ordered the cabbage, which was beautifully caramelized and topped with a delightfully umami-heavy mushroom gravy and cloud of grated cheese. It tasted like comfort and home. Bliss! For dessert, I had the tarta de queso, which is one of my favorite desserts in the Twin Cities; creamy and light with just a hint of sweet, this one is a winner, and I am sad it took me so long to discover.
