trendy, modern, quirky with semi-intimate seating areas. Music in the lobby was generally too loud, but not to the point of being unbearable. Ordered an Old Fashioned at the bar- I'd rate the drink a 6 on a scale of 1-10. Lobby bar also serves typical bar food and salads. Service: pretty good, friendly

Bar Moxy is a hidden gem. It apparently is a hotel that has a downstairs lobby that entertains as lounge type of a bar. They have a speak easy there as well behind a bookshelf that is quite unique. Been here several times now and would highly recommend it. Never have any lines to get in. No cover charges. Cool place to grab drinks and grab a good bite to eat. So many games to play for free including Jinga, chess, board games, connect 4, etc. Great place to host your birthday party and have a large group of people mingle and hang out. Always a good place to start or end the party. One of my downtown favorites. Customer service is good and quick and bathrooms are always clean as well.

Bar Moxy is located on the ground floor of the Moxy hotel. The bar is also where one checks into their hotel room if you're staying here, this caught me off guard but was a nice touch to the ambiance. I had 2 hours until a dinner meeting with friends and I just wanted something quick. I ordered an old fashioned which was pretty standard. Music and the staff/bartenders were all great and the vibe is young and gives high end hostel vibes. What caught my eye was a menu item called "My GF's 'Not that Hungry'" and it hit. I added a photo for reference but for $8, you get a full plate of fries, chicken, and a mac and cheese stick. The chicken was seasoned pretty well for bar food and I was really surprised by the generous amount of fries that were given in tandem. The food came out pretty quick, making this a smooth and easy spot for a quick bite.

This bar is inside of a hotel, which is totally fine because some of the best bars are in hotels. But I wouldn't consider this to be one of the best. Every single time we are there... the DJ is playing and NO ONE is dancing. Perhaps it's just for the atmosphere vibes but it always feels a bit awkward to me lol. On the flip side, they do have tables filled with board games which is pretty awesome if you ask me! And I don't mean your new age lame board games... I mean old school board games like sorry!, hungry hungry hippo, monopoly, Jenga, etc. The downfall to this is that there were game pieces missing for just about every game we played :( total bummer. But all in all, I guess this bar is okay. If your in the area and just want a quick drink with no lines and no expectations for dressing up... this is the place. Drinks are good! Cheers!

AMAZING! All of the bartenders are knowledgeable and super friendly. I originally ordered the "Skrew Your Espressotini" but the bartender asked if I wanted a normal one (with the traditional vodka instead of Whiskey) - I said yes and glad I did! By far one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. However the girl next to me got Moxy's version (with peanut butter whiskey and said it was delicious. Not overly sweet or bitter like some can be. Would 100% return just for this!

It's a hotel lobby but also a cute bar. I love this place because they have a lot of games. We played giant jenga, and shuffle board. They also have some other games. Here's drink is very nice too. They make their unique cocktails with cute names, plus their cocktails price is reasonable. I love the atmosphere here, and I'll be back.

I love the idea of this place.... But felt they missed the mark. They could've hade so many other game choices. To me the biggest fail was not having a pool table?! Like an adult game spot and no pool table?! We had asked if they had air hockey and was given the look like " are you crazy?" So, maybe this suppose to be a really quiet and chill spot?! But we and whoever was playing with the giant Jenga didn't get the memo cause they stayed screaming every time it fell. Again, if you're looking for a cool spot for game I'm sure there's other places to try.

This place was so fun between their drinks, choice of games, and the bar tenders. Ended up having so much fun we ended up bar hopping the rest of the night. There is a speakeasy bar here you can go to with reservations, we just found out about it that night, otherwise wish we would have made it.

You know, Bar Moxy has more to offer than just fine drinks, because they also make some pretty good grub as well. Stopping in during the morning, I ordered the pulled pork breakfast burrito, but with French fries on the outside, not inside the burrito. Therefore, the burrito came with tender pulled pork, scrambled eggs, and a touch of pico de gallo for about $8. The amount of pulled pork in the burrito was modest but quite good. It was juicy and tender. The eggs were well scrambled and seasoned, and although the pico was not mixed inside the burrito, it offered right a top the cross section of the burrito. It was good and I carefully placed it inside. I felt the fries should definitely be served outside burrito. Keeping them outside allowed them to keep their integrity or crispiness and that perfect texture. They were well seasoned and flavorful. I dug the house salsa that came on the side with the fries and was perfect for dipping. If you come in early, one need to order at the bar. Later in the day and evening, there will table service available. Good service.

I took my friend out for her belated birthday dinner and came across this trendy bar over the weekend while walking around downtown. We thought that you needed reservations to get in, but anyone is allowed inside. I saw a security guard standing by the entrance, so it was a bit intimidating. There was a DJ playing some catchy tunes and an area for Jenga and other games. We walked upstairs to check the whole place out and then noticed some people coming out of a bookcase! There is a secret bar inside that is limited to 20 people and you'll need to text the secret code from the website to make reservations. We decided to go downstairs where my friend ordered a Got Moxy. It had Bacardi dragonberry, fresh lime, and black cherry. It was quite refreshing and I couldn't taste any of the alcohol LOL. I helped myself two complimentary Skittles and goldfish crackers while we she finished her drink. Moxy is a cool bar and nice place to hang out in if you're downtown and want something chill to do. They don't have too many food items on their menu though, but they offer some small bites in their grab and go area. Can't wait to come back tomorrow to check out the speakeasy!

My first experience with speakeasy space Ø, Shhhhh ! This located in prime location of Gaslamp and plenty of parking options around. This is a hotel bar, but atmoshphere is like a uber cool bar. As you enter you will see the lounge downstairs bar. Also there is upstairs lounge/seating areas and you will see Harry Potter doors, the fun through a secret door to Room 56. I don't want to break the fun to others, so not going to write all about the Room 56, it's a speakeasy space Ø Room 56 is awesome, Ø. Period! Down stairs at the bar has great bartenders Marcus, Kevin and Valerie were awesome and spoiling us with great cocktails. This lounge has beautiful open space with a square bar and lot of seating areas around. Also lot of board games available. I cherished on lot of Old-Fashioned cocktails, each one was great in its own way. Also, we were treated with charcuterie, and a seared tuna appetizer. Full menu of dinner available too. Flatbreads were standing out from the menu, especially Pork and Peppers and S'mores Naan, very different. Also, the chicken and Bahn Mi sandwiches were great. One of the kitched, which closes very late at 2pm, wow. Big shout to Val, she manages the bar and cocktail menu.

However, at the bar, if you see a reservation sign and they're not there yet, staff will let you sit down once it's time to get up for the reserved party. DRINKS: 9/10 The cocktails were creative, well crafted, and definitely strong enough to make you feel like you were getting your money's worth. I also loved how much attention they put into the presentation. Every drink looked like a piece of art and added to the whole tiki experience. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to answer questions and made great recommendations without making us feel rushed. AMBIANCE: 10/10 This is easily the highlight of the experience. The entire space is beautifully designed, and every little detail makes it feel like you've escaped into a hidden tropical bar. It's cozy, intimate, and unlike any other place I've been to in San Diego. Reservations are definitely worth making since the space is on the smaller side and fills up quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while the experience and ambiance were amazing, the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. I understand you're paying for the craftsmanship and atmosphere, but it's probably not somewhere I'd visit regularly because of that. It's common for tiki bars to be pricey so it was to be expected. Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to experience False Idol. If you're in San Diego and enjoy creative cocktails in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend checking it out at least once!

The funniest part was actually finding the place. We kept looking at the Yelp photos of the exterior, and the logo made us think the restaurant was in a large standalone building. On our second pass, FSD actually pulled us right in front of the entrance--even in a red zone for a brief moment--just so we could finally see the Starlite sign. It honestly felt like the car knew we weren't recognizing the place. It was such a funny experience that made FSD seem almost human. Once inside, we were blown away.
