As a Merced retiree have eaten and continue to eat at the restaurant that used to be Cecil's. The food is well priced for what you get. The customers are equally friendly. It is clean, lots of good decor, all Coke items on the walls among the car pictures. Ribs are good. Waiters are friendly and helpful. We eat there often and meet the same people. We have stayed in Merced a number of times and have always passed Bar B Q Pit restaurant. This time we through that we would eat here. Since we had our dog with us and it being to hot to leave him in the car we got take-out. First they over charged us. We ask for to seniors meals and where charged for regular meals. I mentioned it and this was ignored. In stead of fighting about it I just took the food to our motel. I had brisket and my wife had ribs. To say the least it was poor, poor, poor . The sauce was weak and unfavorably. My brisket was mostly fat. I could only eat less than half. The veggies where good. My wife's ribs where dry. There was no extra sauce to add. I eat here all the time. It's one of my faves. I love the ribs and the bbq sauce. All the Spare ribs, baby back, chicken and roast beef is made fresh in their wood pit. Its one of those places that has way over 50% of their products made fresh, daily and from scratch, unlike most restaurants, like the veggies are not frozen, you can taste it. The servers have always been really nice and attentive to me and my friends. Plus the prices are amazing. You can get a family pack of ribs, baby back, chicken, roast beef, top sirloins, or Snapper ala Veracruz with 1 qt. potato salad, 1 qt bbq beans, 6 rolls and salad for 4-6 people for 25 bucks. I used to love this place. My wife, myself and our service dog would come several times a week to dine outside. Staff have always treated us with great service and respect. I at times would help bus our table or go inside and get our food to help the server. Always a very pleasant experience. Tonight was my wife's birthday, I wanted to take her to Fresno or Modesto for a special dinner. All she wanted was for us to stroll and dine Al fresco, outside as we have many times before. There were only two occupied tables in the whole place, I walk in to get menus and advise the server we would be dining outside. She immediately stated "we don't serve outside" I responded, "we've dined outside many times, that is why we come here. They always take care of us?" I figure I'm not asking for the moon, the place was empty. I would have bussed the table, ran my own food, even ordered inside, but I was sarcastically refused. I manage a very busy restaurant here in town and quite aware of great customer service. The management and ownership should be embarrassed by this waitress & her unprofessional attitude. She is a representation of your establishment! I'm very patient and understanding in regards to the demands of this business, but this has to be the​ worst customer service I have ever encountered in my entire career. If one of my staff had spoken to one of my guests in that manner, she would be looking for another job. Sad to state we will not be returning. It was great while it lasted. Wow! My experience here was very sad from my entrance to my exit. First, the waitress that helped us had no hospitality etiquette. Her name was never offered & she didn't understand me when I asked how certain dishes were prepared. After our food came our waitress disappeared to sit down & get on her phone. We were not attended to again. My boneless chicken breast looked sad, thin, & it was cool not warm or hot. After looking in the waitress direction for 5 minutes she finally looked up from her phone & I was able to grasp her attention. She came over to our table & I asked, is this chicken frozen from a bag....? She said yes it is and just looked at me as if to say "is that all". I let her know I would like to pay for my drinks & we would not be eating the cold food. She said ok & took our plates away. She came back with the bill for our drinks, placed it on the table n walked away without another word. One would expect for her to have apologized, or asked if there is any other dish they could provide us with. Or maybe ask for feedback so that they can remedy errors like these and better serve the customers. She just didn't care that the company was losing a customer. That is bad service all the way around. Once we made our way up to the cashiers counter I let her know she needed to practice her hospitality etiquette and advised her of the different ways she could have responded.
