    Taro Milk Tea

Came here to study for a couple of hours. The lounge seating was really comfortable, I love the chairs. The flowers on the tables were real and a nice touch. It was really cold inside, but I had a jacket. I got the taro milk tea, which was pretty good, but the boba was a little too chewy. Staff were really nice and patient while I was trying to decide on a drink. Would definitely come back here to study!

I came with my partner on a Saturday night because we noticed this boba shop was close to the mall we were at. When we came, we were the only guests there so we got our order very quickly. The ambiance was very cute and cozy - the chairs there were very low to the ground but very comfortable. We ordered the brown sugar milk tea which my partner found too sweet, but I loved it because I love sweet things! There were lots of snacks on the menu that I would love to try next time we're in the area!

The tea was just okay, which is the main reason for my 2-star rating. Service was quick, and the ambiance was very cute. The boba pearls had a good consistency and texture, but lacked sweetness entirely. The tea itself tasted "milked" down, and in my case, the Thai tea had an odd flavor.

Open for only a few weeks, Bapu Tea House is sparkling clean and staff is eager to please. Tried that brown sugar ice milk tea today. Nice flavor without being too sweet. Would be a great place to meet a friend to catch up. (No food or pastries on menu.) Give them a try. #shoplocal

Honestly, I didn't know this place had opened next to a Harris Teeter a few miles away from us. We like bubble tea in general but not always with boba, mostly just as a drink itself. I popped in and ordered a mango tea. I appreciate that they didn't put in tons of ice but then again my tea was very sweet. I'd have to try some of their other offerings before making a more complete decision. In the meantime, Milklab is closer to our house and we are more familiar with their offerings.

Bapu Tea is a clean boba shop with some tables inside to enjoy your boba with friends. We tried the Oolong Milk Tea with boba. Unfortunately, it was pretty watered down, which prevented us from getting a good taste of their oolong tea. Overall, Bapu Tea is in a convenient area in South Durham, but we feel that there are better boba options in the area.

Ube ice tea, mango fruit tea

Visited Bapu on a whim after spotting the grand opening banner, and it was a great surprise! My boyfriend and I got a mango fruit tea and ube ice tea, and both were delicious. We prefer 50% sugar boba and this tea shop delivered on that, unlike many others we've had before. The tapioca bubbles were very good--chewy and not too hard or soft, with a lovely brown sugar flavor. In the fruit tea, the mango chunks tasted fresh. I also watched them use organic milk in the ube tea. We didn't stick around for long enough to sit down (this was a random weeknight) but the interior was cute and clean. Several cozy looking lounging options. We're definitely going back!

Excellent new bubble tea house. At time of writing they've only been open a week and a half. Had their Mango milk bubble tea and oolong milk bubble tea. Quick glance at their ingredients indicated high quality and fresh ingredients used. Both drinks were excellent and their boba was cooked perfectly. Not overdone and mushy, not undercooked and too hard. Just right. Highly recommended.

I am not a fan of their process. They don't add milk and add creamer. I don't like the taste either.

The service is efficient and precise. The ambiance is calm and relaxing with a dent of brown sugar. The ceremonial grade Uji Matcha was the best that I've had outside of Kyoto, hands-down. Additionally, the milk foam on top is perfection, and not too sweet, not too salty, just right. All of the other teeth that I tried were good whether it was fruit tea or green tea. I will definitely return for any of their drinks.l whenever in town.

While in Durham (as I shared in a previous post), we stopped by a food hall after an event, and inside we found Milk Lab. I'm usually not big on trying different teas or specialty drinks, but on this particular day my sister recommended it--and I figured, what the heck, let's give it a try. I honestly don't even remember exactly what we ordered or whether it had milk in it, but what I do remember is that it was so good. The barista was amazing--super knowledgeable, explained the drink list, and even helped us decide when we couldn't choose between two options. The drink we got was one of their recommendations, and it did not disappoint. IT WAS SO GOOD! Now here's the sad part As I was walking to the table to sit down, the drink somehow tipped over and spilled. Y'all... I don't even know what happened, but I was HEARTBROKEN. I didn't get to finish it, but from the few sips I did get, I would absolutely order it again. I'm just glad I at least managed to get a picture before the tragedy.

Our go-to dim sum spot near Chapel Hill!…read more This is a wonderful family-run restaurant that blends modern simplicity with traditional charm. The staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking, and the atmosphere feels both welcoming and authentic. All items are affordable and with reasonable prices! It's the only legit dim sum place near Chapel Hill/Carrboro, about a 25-minute drive for us--and we gladly make the trip almost every week. We simply can't get enough of their food! Warning: Everything on their menu is dangerously addictive. You've been warned! Our Favorites 2. Pork Dumpling (Siu Mai / Siomai) -- Steamed pork in a wonton wrapper, perfectly juicy with just the right balance of pork and vegetables in every bite. A delicious classic done right. 6. Beef Onion Dumpling in Chili Sauce -- One of the best dumplings we've had--and we've been to dim sum spots all over the world! The beef is flavorful and juicy, wrapped in a thin, perfectly chewy skin. The chili sauce complements the filling beautifully without overpowering it. Generous portion, amazing value, flawless execution. 9. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun -- Soft, fluffy buns filled with mildly sweet BBQ pork. Comforting, classic, and delicious every time. 11. Egg Yolk Bun -- Lightly sweet custard filling inside soft steamed buns. The perfect bite of dessert to end your dim sum feast. 16. Bean Skin Stuffed with Pork -- Juicy, lightly seasoned pork wrapped in delicate bean skin. Flavorful but not overpowering--simple and satisfying. 27. Crispy Shrimp Ball -- Juicy and lightly seasoned shrimp goodness inside a crispy ball. They disappeared into the void of my stomach as soon as they touched our table. 28. Crispy Taro Puff with Chicken -- Think of these as bite-sized empanadas with savory, well-seasoned chicken inside--like the best mini chicken pot pies! Crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. I could easily eat 30 of these! 41. Crispy Beef Onion Pot Sticker -- Pan-fried to golden perfection for that satisfying crunch. The beef and chives inside are juicy and flavorful, and the portions are generous. I dream about these dumplings when I'm asleep. Absolute perfection. Take all my money! The Finishing Touch Dim sum is meant to be enjoyed with tea, and they offer a simple traditional brew that pairs beautifully with every dish. If there's one downside--it's that they're only open Friday through Sunday. We wish they were open all week! Everything on their menu is so good! Best Dimsum and service in Durham!

I've had the pleasure of eating some really good dim sum, and while I can admit that the dim sum here will never be as good as places in New York, I can say that they do a decent job and that the experience will be enjoyable for any eater. Rather than delivering dishes on the traditional cart, Dim Sum Asian Bistro uses a menu where you can mark off the dishes that you want. There are a lot of different steamed, fried, and a la carte options that you can choose from. A lot of the basics are done pretty well. They have good pan fried dumplings, shrimp dumplings, shao mai, and coconut pudding. They also have some other, complex dishes that we really enjoy. Their curry powder turnip cake is some of the best out there. The curry flavor pops and the fry is absolutely perfect. Crispy on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside. They also make their chicken feet really well, which is a tough one to do sometimes. I know that there will be some good options. Although Dim Sum Asian Bistro has some good things, they also serve some things that you would just be better off not ordering. They have three different types of rice crepe dishes with meat. Their best is easily the shrimp, and you should stick to that. In fact, I would avoid the beef version at all costs, it is made with a beef paste and the texture was so strange, it was kind of unappetizing! I also think their fried rice could use some work, and I think some items, like their custard buns, could have come from the frozen section. I think my family can be pretty critical about dim sum since it has been a big part of our personal culture. However, sometimes I feel I need to take a step back and look at it broadly. I've come here with some of my friends who don't eat dim sum consistently and they are always wowed by the experience. From that perspective, I can see how this place hits the mark. They serve pretty authentic food and make it taste good. There is always a buzz about the restaurant and people come and go over the weekend. It's no wonder you might have to wait to get a table, Dim Sum Asian Bistro is definitely doing something right!
