Based on social media and reviews, I may have overhyped this place but in short, it was a bit disappointing/expected more. The decor is nice...feels a little bit like you're sitting in a maze. Most of the seating is for tables of 4 so if you have a larger party of 5 or more, you may want to call ahead. There's parking in the attached parking structure. The menu is a scan menu but the connection is not great so you'll need to log into their wifi (password: bao123456) in order to get their menu loaded. You'll order online but pay in person. So in terms of the food, it's okay. Mostly misses...some hits. The pretty goods: The xiao long bao was actually the best thing. It's larger than most (especially if you compare it to DTF) and it was very juicy. BUT, you only get 6 for $14. For that price point, it should at least be 8. The shrimp and pork potsticker was good. It has a whole shrimp and some pork and the crust was nice and crispy. Disappointments: The cucumber salad portion was big but it's not crunchy...a little mushy. I think they used larger/older cucumbers, not the petite ones that are nice and crunchy. The wood ear fungus was "crisp" but there's no flavor. I used the sauce from the cucumber salad to compliment it. The wonton soup was a disappointment. You get 6 very small wontons. The braised string beans has a spicy kick to it and was not very "crisp" and didn't taste fresh. In fact, it came out less than a couple minutes after we placed the order so it may have been sitting there already. The beef roll, while has a good amount of beef, was dry and tough. The skin was not crisp enough and on the chewy side. The stir fried bok choy was flavorless and it's not in complete strands. In other words, it's chopped up into inch sized pieces. There's no garlic or seasoning added. The house special hamburger was a huge disappointment. The pastry on top was nice and flaky but the beef (it's not ground beef) was dry. It reminded me of a beef curry pastry but the beef is the same beef used in the beef roll, just all chopped up in bits. They provided a knife to cut it so you can share but it's near impossible to cut in into pieces. Lastly, their to-go boxes are horrible. So difficult to fold and won't stay closed. If you need to take anything to go, ask for the round soup containers with lids.
I'm really impressed! I came in with low expectation because so many places copy DTF, like the likes of Good Alley, Prince Dumpling etc. but no one comes close with their xiao long bao. However, I stand corrected. I am amazed at their XLB here, extremely thin skin with thick, savory soup. Well done Bao Master! I highly recommend any bao or noodles type stuff here, they know what they're doing. Especially the Sheng jian bao (pan fried buns). This is a soup grenade. Remember to bite a small hole and suck out the juices or it will be a soup projectile. This alone is 5 stars worthy. Holy moly. I was quite disappointed by their beef rolls and Shanghai Pancake. Beef rolls was dry and lacked sauce and flavor. The Shanghai Pancake, omg don't get me started. Are these pork slices for giants?! lol. Not sure what they were trying to achieve. Not authentic but was a fairly good amount of meat for the price. The braised beef noodle was nothing to rave about. Soup lacked oomph, but noodles were excellent. Overall, many must try items. Order from the photos and don't stray onto non signature items. Juicy dumplings, but tough beef noodle soup. Placed an order to go and was excited to try the Big Mac Crab Meat and Kurobuta Pork Soup Dumpling. This dumpling is huge and full of delicious crab meat and flavorful broth! The dumpling wrapper was also soft and thin. The beef noodle soup had a rich broth. The soup wasn't spicy at all. The chili oil was placed in a container on the side, which was great for my parents. The beef noodle soup wasn't my favorite. The beef was really tough. I don't think any one of us could finish chewing the meat. The noodles have a thick hand pulled texture. The entrée was extremely filling and a bit too heavy for me. Even without finishing the meat, the portion is pretty big. The service was friendly and efficient. Our order was prepared on time and they didn't miss a single dish.
First time coming to this place with my family. Food very delicious and tasty. What stood out was the Xio Long Bao is was full of soup like a water balloon that when I bit it it got splashed all over my face and clothes that's said everything about this tray if XLB right? The desserts were so cute in bunny shaped and tasted soft and chewy, just perfect sweetness! The other one was the brown sugar bao or coffee cream inside? I didn't eat that one so don't know lol The ambience was comforting and some big screen TV to keep you company while enjoying your food. Just a few accidents knocking down the silverware holder. May be they should get a more stable one? Saw that they have a giant XLB soup on the Ad making me wanna come back to try it. Will be back soon!
It feels more like Bao apprentice than Bao master to me. Maybe my standards are too high but I am spoiled by DTF, good alley, etc. like the beef roll is less meat and if there is meat, it's fatty. The outside is oily and soggy. Only the XLB is okay to try. Also pricey for what it is
I was hoping I had found a place with good crab meat noodles. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Five stars for the service and two stars for the food. The crab meat noodles have no taste at all. It was like just the noodle and put on a cup of crab meat from the Chinese supermarket.
Great place for some northern Chinese food! There is a parking structure right next door so no issues there. We came around 6:30pm on a weekday and it wasn't busy so we were seated right away. Ambiance was clean and modern, not too loud. There's a QR code on the table where we submitted our order. We tried several dishes: soup dumplings ($13.98), pan fried buns ($15.98), scallion noodles ($21.98), pot stickers ($10.98), beef roll ($11.98), fried rice ($14.98), string beans ($11.98), and sesame rice balls ($4.98). Overall, nice portions and filling. Beef rolls were not very crispy though and didn't have much flavor.
Modern, clean, cozy dumpling house. Attached parking structure. Complimentary appetizers (peanuts, seaweed salad, and black fungus) and self-served congee. We were there at opening hour (11:30 am) and it took an hour to get our 2nd dish. We only ordered two different dishes and two drinks! It wasn't even busy. We had to keep asking our server and they just nodded and never came back with a definitive answer. This was a complete turn-off. The massive pork soup dumpling was a fun tasty experience. It was jiggly and came with a straw to take in the soup. The pan fried wagyu buns were good but nothing spectacular. My milk tea was really sweet and full of ice. Since we ordered off a QR code, I didn't see an option to customize my drink. Other great menu items I would like to come back and try. Hopefully they will make some improvements.
We had the Kurobata Pork Soup Dumpling and it was amazing, although pricey ($10 for 6 dumplings). I got the Crab Meat and Scallion Oil Noodles. I was too hungry so the small quantity of crab meat was not a deterrent and the Noodles was actually really tasty! My friend got the Braised Beef Noodle Soup and he said the beef was too chewy and the soup wasn't good. He would not get it again.
So excited to have a new dumpling shop in the neighborhood! I'd been looking forward to this place since construction began, and once the signage went up, I was counting down the days to opening. As a bao and dumpling fan, I'm thrilled to support another local business. With any new or popular spot, I usually expect a wait, but we got lucky popping in around 6 p.m. on Sunday. Plenty of customers, but we were seated right away in a comfy booth. The restaurant is brightly lit with cool, modern artwork and design (I'd love to have that wave wall piece in my home!). The giant 4-foot bao character statue at the entrance is such a fun touch. There's a waitlist kiosk at the front if the place gets busier. Ordering is done through QR codes at the table: convenient, and our food came out super fast! (I have mixed feelings about QR code ordering, but the speedy service makes up for it.) Here's what we ordered: -Kurobuta Pork & Crab Soup Dumplings: Super flavorful soup, packed filling, so good! -Classic Fried Rice: One of the best I've had in a while. Not sure what made it so tasty, but it was a winner. -Shrimp and Pork Potstickers: That crispy layer was incredible. -Scallion Pancake: Classic must-have; perfectly done. -Garlic Sautéed Green Beans: Tons of garlic, super yummy, one of my favorites. -Big Mac Soup Dumpling: Fun to try, but not quite as tasty as the regular soup dumplings. Every dish was fantastic and earned my "happy wiggle" from the very first bite. Even though there's no specific waiter, the staff who brought out our food and took payment were both friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely dinner and are already looking forward to our next visit! Highly recommend checking out this new spot if you're a dumpling lover.
I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while. I was finally able to go on a Sunday. To my surprise, half of the restaurant was empty. There's no hostess so one of the stuff members just pointed to let me know where I should sit. The food is ordered through the QR code on the side of the table. Here are the things I ordered: steam giant xlb, pan fried pork bun and fried rice cake. The dish I like the most of the fried pork bun. It's really crispy at the bottom and soft on top. The bun is not overly thick and it's juicy inside. My other favorite was the crab and pork steam giant xlb. Although the size of it was a bit smaller than I thought it looked in the picture but you can taste the crab and pork inside. It's also flavorful. As for the fried rice cake, I would probably pass next time. It's overly salted and texture was a bit off. The environment of the place is nice and clean. The food prices were reasonable I would say.
Took my father, mom, hubby, and the kids here for Father's Day lunch, and we arrived right before opening. There was already a line forming outside! Luckily, we were the second or third party in line and were seated immediately. We later found out many people had reservations, and several walk-ins were added to the waitlist shortly after opening. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, with seating for about 50 people, creating a cozy and lively atmosphere. It got busy very quickly after opening, and within a short time nearly every table was filled. It's easy to see why reservations are recommended, especially on busy weekends and holidays. We ordered quite the spread to sample as much as possible: XLB, the giant crab and Kurobuta pork soup dumpling, crispy pork with shrimp and chicken potstickers, beef rolls, scallion pancake, spicy wontons, shrimp and chive dumplings, sautéed string beans, jellyfish and cabbage, beef short rib noodle soup, and the pork and pickled vegetable noodle soup. Despite the restaurant filling up quickly, the food came out surprisingly fast. Every dish was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The soup dumplings were packed with flavorful broth, the spicy wontons had just the right amount of heat, the beef rolls were savory and satisfying, and the noodle soups were rich and comforting. Even the vegetable dishes were well-executed and complemented the meal perfectly. By the end, we were completely stuffed but couldn't stop talking about how good everything was. Everyone from the grandparents to the kids found something they enjoyed, making it the perfect spot for a family gathering. The food quality, efficient service, and overall dining experience made for a wonderful Father's Day celebration. We'll definitely be back again to try even more items from the menu!
There seems to be a recent proliferation of chinese restaurants with great decor selling very good albeit small xlb dumplings with other tasty dishes. The beef noodle soup was good (not spicy) and the beef rolls slightly better - nice flaky skin with plenty of thinly sliced beef. The cauliflower was not unexpectedly spicy. I also like the free tiny apps of wooden ear, peanuts and seaweed salad. The staff was kind enough to move us out of the sunlight without our promoting so I appreciated that. This place is across from the sprouts on a small side street.
Note there isn't clear signage but you need to check in on the stand that says Chowbus to be put on the waitlist for a table. I wasn't too sure because there was no staff at the front and there was a crowd around the kiosk so I didn't realize that we had to check in. Overall the dumplings are semi-competition to Good Alley in my opinion. However a few notes hence the 4 stars and where it has room for improvement: + Crab XLB: skin is thin and well done. I love the amount of soup. That being said, the crab isn't noticeable flavor wise. + pan fried buns: These are very good as well. The bao skin is chewy and the inside is flavorful although my fiance still doesn't think both the dishes beat what Good Alley offers. + oil scallion noodles: This is where I took off the star. The flavor was very lacking. While the noodles were done fine, I didn't taste much flavor on this and it's going to be a pass for me. read more
I have to admit I loved this place so much that I came twice the same day! I first dined with Yelp friends for lunch, then my personal family for dinner. The service was especially great for dinner, when our food came out so fast our table was full in a few minutes. Their style and decor wowed me, having a sort of futuristic appeal. The food tasted fresh and not warmed over with just the right amount of spice and heat. Our lunch service was equally good but did miss a few items ordered by the other end of the long table. It's understandable with such a large crowd. This is such a convenient location with a parking structure and easy access. read more
New restaurant in Alhambra - located in the Bakesic structure. We ordered a bunch of dishes but the highlights were the hot and sour fish and their pan fried buns. I would skip the beef roll and their XLB because they were cold and underwhelming. The restaurant was busy so service was definitely lacking. We did not have the correct number of plates and utensils and our cups were all give to us extremely dirty (I wish I took photos). I had go to and get utensils myself. I also had to stand up and pay because no one would come get the check. They also got our order wrong but they were so busy that I just wanted to leave instead of complaining. read more
Came to Bao Master over the weekend with hubby for the first time. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have all the items from the menu I saw from online, because I wanted to try their Dan Dan Noodle. One other thing was while we were eating, I did feel like one of the servers kept rushing us. I was obviously still eating our food, and first she brought the check asking us if we wanted to pay, but then she said we could our time. Then as I was literally eating the last bite of my soup, she came and asked if we were ready to pay yet. That was a bit irksome. Anyway, they do offer a small tray of appetizers including seaweed, woodear mushrooms, and roasted salt peanuts. You order by scanning the QR code on each dining table and all dishes are submitted through a ChowBus link. We ordered more of their baos and dumplings to try their namesake and thought it was all fairly decent. They have a huge bottle of the sweet black vinegar to use for xiaolongbaos on each table, and soy sauce. -Hot & Sour Soup (for two) was okay. Not sour or spicy enough for hubby & I's preference so we added a little of the table's vinegar to our bowls for taste. -Kurobata Pork Soup Dumplings were good. Pretty thin skin and good soup content. Best eaten right away when hot, not as good cold. -Pan Fried Kurobata Pork Buns were standard. -Spicy Shrimp & Kurobata Pork Wontons, were not spicy. Mild flavor with either a light sesame or peanut sauce and chili oil. We added the table's vinegar to taste. -Garlic Sauteed String Beans were standard. You have to order rice on the side, wok dishes do not come with it. Portions are a little bit on the small side, but we enjoyed enough to merit another visit. Hole in a wall, with a very nice interior decoration. Definitely a level up from din tai fung. The menu have a large selection but you will need to order through the phone. Service is really fast and I highly recommend ordering as you want because the food comes out really fast and all together. Highly recommend getting the xlb and noodles. Been wanting to try this restaurant and finally had a chance today by ordering to go. First off, their opening time is listed as 11 am but no one picked up the phone the 3 times I called between 11 and 11:25. They finally picked up around 11:28 AM, and even then, I don't think they were ready for customers. Their computer wasn't ready yet and they didn't have all their menu items available. I ordered a pork dumpling (the XLB), pan fried pork buns, house special Chinese pork burger, and the classic scallion oil noodles. I was told my order would be ready in 20 minutes and not surprisingly, 20 minutes later when I arrived, it was not ready yet. I ended up waiting an additional 10 minutes before my order was ready. Portions are pretty small here but food tasted pretty good. Their pan fried pork buns are really juicy and flavorful. I want to come back and try their other noodles though. Their to go boxes and bags are also pretty fancy looking. read more

When searching new restaurants in the area, I found this interesting dumpling place called Bao Master, located in Alhambra at the corner of Main St and Garfield Ave. This restaurant is located where Kyoto Gyukatsu and Habit are, but it is in the back of the mall and isolated to itself. Nonetheless, I visited to give it a try. We went on a weekend, and were seated quite quickly. The staff are very nice. The restaurant has a cozy vibe to it. We ordered through QR codes, which is quite trendy these days. We ended up sharing some pan fried soup dumplings and some shanghai rice cakes. There were some peanuts and pickled vegetables complimentary, which were nice. The rice cakes were not too salty and the flavor was solid. The pan fried soup dumplings were quite juicy but a bit small. Overall, solid dumpling restaurant for San Gabriel Valley. read more

This is a welcome addition to the Alhambra area. When I visited the restaurant was quite busy, even for a Friday night but we were seated quite quickly. The interior of the restaurant is well lit and has a modern aesthetic to it. Dishes we ordered were the pan-fried dumplings with pork and shrimp, pork rib fried rice, and crab roe scallion noodles. The highlight of the meal was the crab roe scallion noodles, the texture of the noodles was firm and springy and the crab roe offered a nice distinct flavor. The pan-fried dumplings were also good; however, the fried rice was a bit lacking in flavor. I think other places around the area such as Good Alley or Thumbling make a better fried rice. However, I am glad that this place opened in Alhambra as it's close to home. read more
Newly opened Chinese food with really tasty dishes and friendly service. I came to try out their soup dumplings since I heard lots of good things about this place. There's a parking lot attached to the building, so there shouldn't be an issue finding parking. The interior is very new and modern, and there's plenty of tables for varying size parties. We ordered everything from the pork soup dumplings, the large pork and crab dumpling, pan fried dumplings, fried rice and more. Everything was really flavorful and seasoned well. read more
I took my mom here to celebrate her birthday (my mom wanted dumplings) and I wish I took her somewhere else. We didn't had to wait long on Saturday, but service could of been better. So we ordered the foods via the QR code. The food came before they gave us water. Not off to a good start. We ordered a few items, cucumber salad, beef noodle, pork XLB, gluten wheat appetizer, beef rolls, and fried wagyu bao. Out of all the dishes, the wagyu bao was the best. Everything else was mid. But I will say, the cucumber salad we ordered was weird or just maybe not to my taste. The cucumber salad was super sweet...it had a sweet soy sauce taste. It was so sweet, in my opinion that i thought I was eating a dessert dish. Later on, it got pretty busy and it was hard to catch our server for additional items (soy sauce, extra napkins). We also ordered a drink togo and that took forever to come out. Didn't notice the ambiance much, but when you walk in at the store front, you'll see a mascot statue that reminds me of the din tai fung mascot. Overall, this place wouldn't be my first choice for dumplings since we have alot of other options in the area. read more
Seriously? They keep opening up hot and new and this place is on fire the good kind. Service is great and this could packed during lunch or dinner so be ready. Dumpling is amazing, thin skin and meat is flavorful. We ordered variety and most is great, beside the lowest point goes to the onion pancakes. Sponges tofu mushrooms is excellent, beef stew is a bit light but still good. Dumpling is excellent also. Damn all overall is great. congrats guys and hopefully will last forever. We came in after craving some soup dumplings and we are so glad we decided to give this place a shot. Really enjoyed the appetizer that they give before you order : the salted toasted peanuts , salted edamame and the woodear mushrooms. 8/10 Braised wheat gluten in sweet soy 8/10 Soft and well marinated mushrooms and tofu that is flavorful and not too sweet. Crab meat noodles 9/10 Flavorful and the crab meat is yummy and nicely portioned for the price you get. Pan fried kurobuta pork buns 10/10 Nice and crispy underside and juicy pork filling and with the soup , it makes the dish more appetizing. Big Mac crab meat and kurobuta pork soup dumpling 7/10 Soup is really yummy and delicious. Nice amount of crab meat but I wish there are some more pieces of the pork meat. Very quick service and friendly staff even if you don't really speak Chinese. Elegant and luxe interior , perfect for hanging out with friends and/or family for some yummy food. read more

Got that dumpling craving and was nearby so gave this place a try. This place has that giant soup dumpling so if you like social media food influencing, give it a try. I personally didn't try but I got a bunch of other items and it was delicious. Price is a little higher but the quality of the food is good. Staff is really nice and made sure to tell me that the dessert, congee, and red bean rice soup was free today. The sign says $2.99 ayce for that part, so not sure if it's only free on the weekdays. But glad it was free for us. Also, definitely try the signature dishes like house special Chinese burger and the crab meat scallion noodles. If you're like me and like a little spice, ask for chili oil! The place also has calming Chinese music that I like so it was a relaxing meal for me. read more
Saw this spot before it opened and wanted to check it out! The experience was overall just okay. There was no wait and you order via QR code. They served us a little dish of mushrooms, seaweed salad & peanuts. Things we ordered: - Cucumber salad ($6): To be honest, wasn't a fan. The cucumbers weren't crispy and there wasn't any depth of flavor.. It just tasted like soy sauce. Portion was also very small. - Pork pot stickers ($8): Got the job done, was good but nothing special. - Scallion Oil Noodles ($10): Again, portions were pretty small. Noodles were just okay.. It was giving instant ramen. - Spicy shrimp and pork wontons ($12): The sauce was good, nice spice. - Pork and crab xlb ($18): A premium price for the crab but you can't taste it. The soup dumpling itself was really good but I would just order the pork ones. Overall, everything was beautifully plated but really small. Our order also came out very sporadically and not all at once. We finished all our food and waited an extra 10 mins after our table was cleaned up until our XLBs came out. ~$65 meal and no one was full. Unfortunate. read more
Came here on a Thursday night for a quick carb fix. We ordered an assortment of dumplings and a stir fried noodle. I was surprised that the food wasn't overly oily/ greasy and lighter on the salt. The stir fry noodle was definitely lighter than typical even in color. The wasn't particularly busy with plenty of parking spaces in the lot behind. There is also an ayce congee section in the restaurant for $2.99 which had three porridge options to supplement your meal. read more
Been waiting for Bao Master to open and finally got to try it today. The restaurant is small but clean and modern. Everything we ordered was delicious. They seem to be in a soft opening phase, so the service wasn't quite there yet. We had to ask multiple times for basics like soy sauce, chili oil, and sauce plates; the only thing provided at the table was a bottle of vinegar. That said, the prices are extremely reasonable. The total came out to about $80 after tax and tip for six items, which felt like a great value for the quality. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place. It's officially my new favorite soup dumpling spot in Alhambra! read more
I went to Bao Master during their soft opening. I have walked by this restaurant many times during its construction. I was very happy to see that they are now open for business. There is a cute Bao (bun) character at the entrance to the restaurant. The interior is very nice; simple and elegant. Here is what I think of each item I had: (1) soup dumplings filled with pork - very average. Not bad but not spectacular. (2) boiled dumplings with pork, shrimp and chive - the filling were a bit undercooked. The ingredients tasted fresh, but it was too bad it was undercooked! I think cooking it one more minute was all that was needed. (3) pork and vegetable steamed buns - the outside is good but the fillings need more meat. It was filled with mostly vegetables and very little meat. (4) pickled greens and pork noodle soup- lots of pickled vegetables but not much meat. The broth is okay. (5) Tiramisu milk foam black tea - tastes okay. Not too sweet which is how I like it. But not enough milk foam. I can tell that the ingredients are fresh. But everything tasted very average to me. Some dishes need more meat. I was disappointed that it is not better. The to go box is very pretty but it is difficult to close. I think the servers should assist with the leftovers rather than just putting the boxes on the table and walk away. They just assume people can figure out how to close the boxes. There was not much service since the menu is online. You are expected to scan the QR code on the table and place the order via your cell phone. They bring you the food to your table when it is ready. The interactions with the server were minimal. He did not even come to ask how is everything. Since it is soft opening, they must be still working out the kinks. I might go back to give them another chance to impress me. read more

Their xlb was great! I also liked their scallion noodles! Their pan fried dumplings were crunchy at the bottom and nice and soft at the top. It was nice to try their large xlb where they give you a straw to drink the soup inside. It's hard to eat the skin so it makes sense why generally they make the xlb small. The service was friendly and they let me bring in my dog! read more
Finally went to try the newly opened Bao Master and enjoyed the XLB! The kurabota pork and crab xlb was very flavorful and had a good ratio of filling and wrapper. Also tried the extra large soup xlb and it was so fun to eat. They give you a straw to drink the soup inside but just need to be careful as it's very hot. Service was fast and friendly. A great place to eat with family or group of friends! read more

I recently visited Bao Master and really enjoyed the meal. The tomato braised beef rice was one of my favorite dishes. It tasted like it was made with real tomatoes instead of a heavy tomato sauce, giving it a fresh, slightly tangy flavor that wasn't overly rich. The beef was tender with a nice bite and paired well with the rice. We also tried the soup dumplings, pan-fried buns, beef wraps, and braised green beans. Everything was freshly prepared and flavorful. The complimentary sweet congee was a nice surprise, especially the mung bean & barley and red bean & purple rice varieties--they were smooth, lightly sweet, and a perfect way to finish the meal. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and the staff were friendly throughout our visit. Overall, it's a great place for family meals or casual dining if you're craving Chinese comfort food. read more

This place was such a let down. When I saw that they had the viral crab roe noodles, I decided to come here for dinner with my bf. The place look well decorated but knowing that they had just opened 4 months ago, you'd think that it's poorly maintained and decorated with cheap materials. Because how is one restroom out of order and the only other one working doesn't have a door handle but instead you have to pull it open with a zip tie. Anyways, we ordered via tablet and got the Chilled Cucumber with Yuzu Sauce, Spicy Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Wonton, Crab Meat & Scallion Noodles, Kurobuta Pork & Crab XLB, & Sautéed Garlic String Beans. Chilled Cucumber with Yuzu Sauce: 0/5. The cucumber looked it has been marinating in the fridge for more than a week. Didn't taste fresh. Had no crunch nor was there any yuzu flavor. Also, it looks nothing like the photo on the menu. Spicy Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Wonton: 1/5. Drenched in peanut sauce and that's all you taste Crab Meat & Scallion Noodles: 2/5. Not enough crab, not much flavor, noodles were overcooked, very oily. Kurobuta Pork & Crab XLB: 4/5. Pretty good. Had a good amount of filling, lots of soup and really thin wrapper. Sautéed Garlic String Beans: 3/5. The flavor was good. I like the minced meat but the beans were not fresh. In conclusion, I would not be back or recommend this place. There are plenty of good XLB restaurants in the area and this was not one of them. read more
Trying this new restaurant during their soft opening. The cucumber salad was good with a unique taste to how they were marinated. The black mushroom appetizer was also good but the more you ate, the stronger the flavor profile got. The spicy beef noodle soup had a different profile taste than all the others we've tried, the flavor seemed subtle. I really like the chili wontons, that's my favorite dish. First time here! Wait time on a Sunday about 15 minutes. Ordered the soup dumplings (6) and the oil noodles. Forgot what it's called but so yummy! Everything is so tasty! I'll for sure be a returning customer :) read more

Service and ambiance are good. But the food is just average, nothing would make you want to go back. The crab meat & scallion oil noodles is too salty, yet the house special Chinese beef burger has no favor. The pan-fried wagyu buns are too small and the pork and crab soup dumplings is just ok. The dishes are pretty small and not worth the price. I wouldn't want to go back. read more

I give Bao Master a 3.5/5. This restaurant was pretty delicious overall but there were some things that could use improvement. There was no wait on a Thursday afternoon and parking in the nearby plaza was easy. The restaurant interior was nicely decorated and the tableware was really nice. They seated us (2) right away and gave us free snacks to enjoy. The seaweed was delicious and slightly tangy, the black fungus was a little sour, and the peanuts added a nice crunch. The pork xiao long bao came out first and weren't bad but wasn't as pork flavored as I thought. They were alright. The spicy beef noodle soup came out next and was pretty delicious. I liked the soup and the beef was super soft and tender. The beef was my favorite part of my meal. The bok choy was a little bland and tasted watery. I wish they soaked in the soup better like the sour veggies, those tasted a little better. The noodles were firm and we preferred if they soaked up the soup flavor a little better, but the soup was flavored nicely and wasn't too spicy. They tasted better when eaten together. The fried dumplings weren't bad and came out crispy, but I wish they had a little more juice in them. Overall, we paid $55 for 2 which was a little pricey for a lunch but we did take some noodles home and most of the fried dumplings so it was worth it. The service was also pretty nice and we were tended too nicely. Overall, it was a nice spot and the food was good. read more

Clean and new restaurant with good, authentic food. Everything came out quickly and the staff was rather attentive and polite. Had their large soup dumpling that you sip with a straw as well as the stur fried green beans, shanghai rice cakes, beef rolls, and pan fried pork baos, everything was delicious read more

Checked out the newly opened Bao Master right next to Sprouts and Burlington. The first thing you notice is how fresh the space feels. The interior is super modern and really brightly lit, which is a nice change of pace. The ordering process is a breeze; you just scan the QR code, and the food starts flying out of the kitchen pretty quickly. The menu definitely gives off Din Tai Fung vibes, but they have a few unique items that set them apart. The Food Breakdown * Giant Xiao Long Bao: This thing is massive! It's incredibly juicy with a clear crab meat flavor. My only gripe is that it felt a little "skinny" on the actual meat filling, I was hoping for a bit more pork and crab inside for the size. * Sticky Rice Dumpling: This was the absolute winner for me. It tasted exactly like the ones you find on the streets of Shanghai. Seriously authentic and a must-order. * Pan Fried Rice Cake: Loved the soy sauce glaze on these. Great texture. * The Classics: We also grabbed the scallion pancake and hot and sour soup. Both were solid additions to the meal. Pro-Tip: Parking Don't stress about the busy lot in front of Sprouts. They actually have reserved parking spots in the back, so it's super convenient. I feel this is a great new spot for a quick dumpling fix in Alhambra. I'll definitely be back for those sticky rice dumplings! read more
